Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey Rob, Justin Van Patten here. And you know the reason I joined, well, and just so stoked for the Ironman 60 Challenge is just because I consider myself successful, very happy, very fortunate, so blessed, so grateful. But I mostly just kind of drift along and just kind of enjoy life. Where when I heard your challenge it just resonated with me because the idea of taking control over six separate but very beneficial actions in my life just sounded like the perfect solution for making a plan and moving forward with a plan. So my goal is growth and living in my full potential. And I have to tell you the cold shower, I have to get myself mentally psyched for the shower. Everything else seems so easy after that shower's done.
Starting point is 00:00:49 So everybody and everybody I tell about it is like, oh, I'll do all of it. But that part and it's definitely that is the mental strength that we're building towards. So I'm just so excited for it. I just want to thank you for putting the challenge on my wife and I were doing it together. So and it's just going to be a blast. I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks for putting this on, My wife and I, we're doing it together. And it's just going to be a blast. I'm really looking forward to it. Thanks for putting this on, man. Keep doing what you're doing.
Starting point is 00:01:08 Appreciate you. Welcome to the Mindset and Motivation Podcast, one of the top motivational podcasts in the world. Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we come out with a short, to the point, no BS episode to help make massive changes in your mind and transform you from who you are now to who you want to be. Starting point is 00:01:49 Welcome to today's episode. If you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so that you never miss another episode. And as you probably heard at the beginning of this episode, a testimony from somebody who is in the Iron Mind 60 Challenge. And you might say, wait, doesn't the Iron Mind 60 Challenge start in a couple of days on June 24th? And yes, it does. But the cool thing is, even though the challenge hasn't started yet, we still have over 375, 385 people, I think right now that are inside of the group and it's continuing to grow. And I've been putting up lessons. I've done a couple of hour long lessons inside of there, teaching them how to find their why, teaching them how to journal. We're about to learn how to visualize. I'm going to be teaching that as well so that they can visualize the dreams, the life that they want and create it
Starting point is 00:02:29 because there's scientific proof that when you visualize something, your brain actually thinks it's real, which makes it easier to actually go out and get in your life. So I'm going to be teaching those types of things. So if you're out there and you're interested, go to ironmind60.com. I have a long video up there that explains every single detail of the Iron Mind 60 Challenge, and you can see if it's right for you. So if you're out there, you're ready to live up to your full potential. You feel like you have more than you're capable. You're not doing as much as you're capable of doing at this current moment,
Starting point is 00:02:58 and you want to find out if there's more for you, then the Iron Mind 60 Challenge might be right for you. So if you go to ironmind60.com, I-R-O-N-M-I-N-D 60.com, you can actually check out the video there, see all the details, check it out, see the testimonies and just see if it's right for you. But you might as well go to it, go to the website, check it out and make the decision before you make the decision just from listening to me give it a quick 30-second promo. So if you're interested in finding out a little bit more, go to ironmind60.com. We will be starting
Starting point is 00:03:30 on June 24th, and the very last time that you can join is the night, June 24th at midnight Pacific Standard Time. So make sure you go to ironmind60.com. So let's go ahead and dive into today's episode. So I'm going to tell you why you should burn all of your ships. You know, if you go back to the last episode, you know, I said enough is enough, right? So the burn the ship story is, you know, the story from 1959. Hernan Cortes, he set sail and he was going to Veracruz, Mexico with his crew. And the thing that he noticed was that the men became very scared. They had hopes of turning
Starting point is 00:04:05 back to their old life. And the story goes, you know, that he was there to conquer. He was there that they were going to claim this land or they were going to die trying. There was no turning back. And so what he told the people is when they got on land was to take fire and set sail or set fire to all of the ships. You know, they had wooden ships back then. And what happened? They set all of their boats on fire, which means that they had no way to turn back. There was no turning back. Either they were going to conquer the land that they had landed on, or they were going to die trying. There was no plan B. And so what I want to ask you is this, you know, there's a, before I ask you this, let me actually say this. I remember there's a really good quote that Will Smith says,
Starting point is 00:04:51 and Will Smith says that there's no need to have a plan B because it distracts from plan A. And so what I want you to think about is this, you know, what is your plan A? What is your plan? What is your dream? What is your hopes? Your desires? the thing that you really want to do? You know, let's, I'll give you an example. For instance, let's say you want to be a painter. Let's say that that's your plan A. But if you're like most people, you're out there, you want to be a painter, you probably have some sort of plan B. You might have a plan C, D, E as well, just in case, you know, and you might have the idea of you're going to do this just in case, you know, it doesn't work out as a painter because, you know, God knows it's hard to get, get, get and make money as a painter. So, you know what, I'm going to go ahead and have another job just in case I'm going to do all these things just in case it's always the
Starting point is 00:05:36 just in case is the reason why, you know, just in case is the thing that's killing your dreams. I know I was in, uh, I was in Bali not too long ago and a guy was standing there and I was talking to him and, and, uh, you know, I was like, so what do you get, what do you do? We're at a, a beach bar and, uh, you know, I knew his friends and he's like, oh, you know, I produce some music and stuff. I was like, that's awesome. You know, I've, I've produced music in the past. I've been a musician for years. I've, you know, been in bands, I've traveled and played many times live. We started talking about it. And, um, and his friend comes up to him and he's like, Hey man, don't let him fool you. He's a big deal.
Starting point is 00:06:10 And, uh, you know, I was like, Oh, is that so you're a big deal? And he was like, yeah, you know, I guess I'm starting to get kind of bigger. Um, this guy's name is Malik Berry. Uh, some of you guys listening might've actually heard of Malik Berry. He's got some pretty popular songs. He's got a really cool songs. I think his most popular song is called Control. I think it starts with a K if you want to listen to it. So Malik Berry. And his friend's like, oh man, he's a big deal. Don't let him fool you. And I was like, oh, is that so? And he's like, yeah, you know, my stuff has started to blow up. And what I came to find out after talking to the guy for a while was that he was a producer for years. He made beats for everybody else. He made music for everybody else. He would take all of their music, produce all of it, which basically means like he
Starting point is 00:06:48 make the beats. He had them come in and sing. He put the whole song together and make it sound good and basically get it ready to put on a CD, right? And when he was doing that, he saw some success. You know, he did decently well, but what he was telling me was that what he really wanted to do was he wanted to be the singer on it, but he wasn't a great singer. And so what he told me was that he never saw real success until he followed his heart of what he actually wanted to do, which is him being the entire song, him not just being the producer, but the producer, the person who made the beats, the person who sung, the person who wrote all the lyrics. And when he did, guess what happened? He blew up. And if you look at him now, if you find him on the internet, he's exploded. He's had some pretty massive songs. I've walked into stores
Starting point is 00:07:34 before and been like, holy crap, that's Malik playing right now. But that's an example of somebody who decided to get rid of their plan B's, producing music for everybody else. Pretty, you know, plan C making the beats and selling those and went for plan a and plan a only and look at where it got him. So for you guys, I want you to think the same thing. What is your plan a, what is it that you actually truly want in your life? And then what are your plan B, C, D's all of that crap that you have, that you have this, as the quote unquote just in case. And how can you get rid of everything that is plan B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, J, K, L, M, or P for all of you guys out there and just go with plan A?
Starting point is 00:08:15 What are you holding onto that you need to get rid of so you can go for plan A? Have you burned your ships yet? What do your ships look like and what ships need to be burned? Because the only way that you're truly going to be successful is to think about what it is that you want, dedicate your mind to it, dedicate your time, energy, and life into it, and that is how you would be successful. I always tell people LeBron James didn't become LeBron James and one of the greatest basketball players ever because he also decided to play volleyball in high school just in case basketball didn't work out. No, it was basketball, basketball only. Go hardcore into it. You know, did he play some other sports a little bit? He
Starting point is 00:08:55 did, but it was hardcore basketball once he realized that that's what he was most gifted at and that's what he loved the most. You know, if you have a hundred percent of your energy throughout the day and you're putting 75% of it into your plan A and 25% of it into plan B, just in case plan B doesn't, their plan A doesn't work out. Well then guess what? You'll never be truly great because truly great means 100% into your craft for a long, dedicated amount of time, whatever that is, whatever it is that you want to be the best at. And I'm not talking about the best of all. I'm talking about the best you that you can possibly be. So what you have to do is you have to decide what your plan A is, burn the ships and only go for plan A and don't even think about a plan B because as Will Smith says, the plan B distracts from the plan A. The only way to become great is to figure out what it is that you want,
Starting point is 00:09:46 dedicate your mind to it, dedicate your energy to it, dedicate your time to it, and work your freaking tail off to get whatever it is that you want. That is the only way to achieve greatness. So that's what I got for you for today's episode. So if you liked this episode,
Starting point is 00:10:03 please share it with someone that you know and love.
