Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast. I'm your host, Rob Dial. And
if you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so that you never miss another podcast
episode. And today is Thursday, which means it is the business edition of the Mindset
Mentor Podcast. And normally, I'm joined by my best friend and business partner, Dean
DeVries, but he is actually out of town. He is at a mastermind that he is a part of. So today,
you have just me. And today, I'm going to talk about business. But what I'm going to talk about
is also going to help any of you guys who don't happen to have a business. But I am going to
specifically talk around how this works in business. I'm going to talk about your circle
of greatness. I'm going to talk about the people that you surround yourself with and how to get around people who pull you up into creating the
life that you want, whether that's the happiness, whether that's the joy, the success, the money,
the financial freedom, whatever it is. And I'm going to talk a lot about my life and how I have
been able to create an incredible group of people that I am extremely proud to call
friends because it hasn't always been this way for me.
So I'm going to tell you a lot about my personal experiences throughout this episode.
But the circle of greatness that I like to call it are the people around you whose presence
makes you want to be better.
Now, I'll be honest with you.
For a long time, I had friends and they're great people, but those people didn't make me want to be better.
Like just being around them didn't make me want to create a better life for myself.
It didn't, they didn't inspire me to be better.
There's nothing wrong with them as people,
but they just didn't inspire me to become better.
And that's what I mean is that these people, when you're around people,
and you develop and you're intentional about creating your own circle of greatness,
just physically being around these people, talking to them and seeing what they're doing
should actually literally no joke, just pull you up because you start to change the way that you
are, the way that you think, the way that you operate in the world. Because if you start hanging out with a bunch of really great people, you're
naturally going to start pulling yourself up to the same as them. And I'm going to talk about this
once again from a business format, but this can be used with happiness. It can be used with joy.
It can be used with peace, love, relationships. I mean, literally think about it. If you are a
brand new married couple and you're around, you have a group of friends that are
incredibly in love. They've been around each other for a long time. They've been married for
a long time. And you have three or four groups of friends of long married individuals. Don't you
think that you and your spouse would learn a lot from them? Don't you think you'd understand of how
to treat each other a little bit better? You would. Now, if you're around a bunch of people who are divorced, once again, nothing wrong with
divorce. I'm not trying to say there's anything wrong with it, but maybe they treat each other
really badly, any of that type of stuff. It's going to be harder to inspire you to work on a
relationship. Once again, nothing wrong with anybody in their life circumstances. I'm just
saying that if you're trying to build a relationship, you should be around other people who have incredible relationships.
If you're trying to build a business, you should be around people who are either building businesses
or have an incredible business. And as I grow older and as my business grows older and as I
grow wiser in life and as I become wiser in my business as well, I've changed the people
that I surround myself with. And years ago, before I had a business, I rarely hung out with business
owners. It was really interesting. I only hung out with other people who were employees. When I was
an employee, I hung out with mostly other people who were employees because they live the same type
of life as me. And then now, I would say 90, 95% of the people that I hang
out with are other business owners. And just being around these people, they allow me to think
outside of the box. They push me to be better. And when they start talking about how their business
did whatever, a million dollars last month, I go, man, that's inspiring. And I start thinking to
myself, how could we get to a million dollars next month? Just being around them inspires me to be better. And the interesting thing about all of
this is that success in growing a business, it can be really tricky, right? And what I mean by that
is everyone who is not a business owner or a business owner doing less than me tells me how
amazing my business is doing, right?
So when I have people that come over that are friends that are just employees and they
come over to my house and they hear about my business and how it's doing and how it's
growing, they're like so impressed by it, which I love.
But when I'm around people who already have successful businesses that are doing the same
as mine, a little bit less than mine, or maybe even more than mine, they're not inspired by me
at all.
And I love that.
You never want to be the smartest or the richest person in any room.
You always want to have people that are better than you, that are surrounding you.
So when I'm around people who are not necessarily business owners or they have a brand new business,
they're amazed by my business and
how impressive it is. But when I'm around people who have big businesses doing a lot,
they're not impressed. And I love the feeling of not impressing somebody. I love feeling like
there's another level for me. Oh, I need to do more to impress this person. And being around
them is always pushing me. If I were to tell them how much my business did last month, they'd be
like, cool, what's it going to be to get you to double that next month?
The average person wouldn't be like, oh, wow, you did X amount this month. What are you going to do
next month to double it? Unless they're already somebody who has a business and they know what
it's like. And it's cool because I have friends that are business owners and they're in the same
industry as me and they give me secrets and I give them secrets. I have friends that are business owners and they're in the same industry as me and they give me secrets and I give them secrets. I have friends that are business owners that are in
completely different industries and they give me secrets and I give them secrets. And we help each
other and we foster each other's growth and help each other grow simply because we want to see each
other succeed. That's the cool thing about it. And it's like a brotherhood, but there's also some females in there as well. So it's also kind of a sisterhood. It's a brother
and sisterhood, right? And the way I like to, to make it easier for people to kind of understand
it is if we were to just break it up into numbers, there's about 85% of people in the world that
either don't have a business. If we're talking just strictly business, right? They don't have
a business or they do have a business and they're just happy where they are. They don't want to
grow. They don't want to force themselves outside their comfort zone. They're just wanting to stay
where they are. That's about 85% of people that I see out there. Then there's about 10% of people
that want to grow and they continue to push themselves. And when you're in that situation,
you're in the 10% right there.
You've got to be very careful not to listen to the people in the 85%. And this is huge because
a lot of people listen to the people in the 85% as they're starting to grow. So they listen to
them when they say, oh, that business is a bad idea. Or they listen to them when they say,
hey, you're doing so well. You don't need to work any harder. You don't need to work on the
weekends. You don't need to push yourself, whatever it is.
But the 10% of people listen to the 85% of people.
Now you might be out there saying, well, that only adds up to 95%.
Well, there is another level.
There's another level to it.
And the top level is the 5%.
The 5% of people who are pushing themselves to be the best version of themselves, which
also includes building the best version of themselves, which also
includes building the best possible business that they could. Wouldn't it be great if there was a

and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent
any disease. And so there's 85% of people who are not growing a business.
There's 10% of people who are wanting to grow a business.
And when you're in that 10%, it's important not to listen to the 85%.
But then there's 5% of people that are really focused on growing themselves the most.
And when you're in the 10% and you're not in the 5% yet,
you've got to look to those 5% to grow and to get better.
You've got to make sure that you're not listening
to the people who aren't trying to grow, but you're listening to the people who are doing
massive things in this world, who are impacting lives, who are having a ton of abundance in
everything that they do. 85% are not growing or they don't have a business. 5% are seeking
greatness. So if you're out there and you have a new business or you're about a year or two or
three years into your business, you might be in that 10%. You've got to stay away from the 85%,
at least from letting them come into your mind and telling you to take more time off or
don't work on the weekends or to, you know, you're doing so amazing. Why do you need to
make more money? You want to listen to the 5%. The 5% that are seeking greatness. This is what I mean by a
greatness circle. It's not about the money for them. They've already got enough money. They have
more money than they can probably do with. They don't know what to do with all of it. It's not
about the fame. It's not about becoming a celebrity or becoming Instagram famous or posting pictures
in front of the Lamborghinis or anything like that. It's not about anything else other than becoming the best that they can possibly become.
That's it. They're pushing themselves and they hold themselves to a way different standard
than majority of people, 95% of people that are in the world. And part of becoming the best that
they can possibly be means making their business the best that
they could possibly make it because the business is attached to them.
And that happens through making their whole team, everyone in their company, the best
that they could be.
When you're in that 5%, you realize that you got to this level that you're at because you
focus on growing yourself.
You focus on growing your mindset.
When you focus on growing your mindset, you focus on growing yourself, your business will grow. That's just the way
it's going to be. Your business and your bank account will never outgrow your level of personal
development. It won't happen. Your business or your bank account will not outgrow your level
of personal development. And so when someone gets to this 5%, the funny
thing is when you see people who make a lot of money and then people are like, why don't they
just retire? Because it's never been about money for them in the first place. Money is just a
byproduct of what they're doing in the world. It's just it. Their focus has always been
bringing the best possible version of themselves out to the world, finding what their true potential
is. And then once they feel like they've gotten to that level, what they want to do is they want
to help everybody else around them get to that level. So they do it in their own business. And
then they start growing their C-suite and they start growing the people around them and their
employees. And when they grow, the business grows and it grows and it grows and it grows.
And what happens is they become ridiculously
wealthy simply from the pursuit of them becoming the best that they could possibly be, helping
everyone else around them become the best that they could possibly be, and bringing their business
to the top level that it could possibly be. They want to see it out and see it become great.
That's it. That's the secret. So if you're in the 10% that's trying to grow,
that's trying to get better, you try to hang out with the 85% as little as possible. Try to find
more people in the 10% with you that are growing, that are trying to get better, and then try to
find a couple people in the 5% that you can talk to, that you can be around and simply see how they
operate in the world because they're freaks of nature. They're not a normal person. You want to be able to see what they do and start to pick up
some of the stuff that they do. And what happens is once you're in this ecosystem of people trying
to grow and get better, you start to realize that you can meet up with people and start to go get
coffee and start to network a little bit more with people who are working like this. Like for me, I meet with a group of guys every single month and we all have businesses between $2 million and $100 million a
year in sales. All of us, we get together. There's just five of us and we meet every single month.
We don't take a month off. We meet every single month. And our job is to talk about what is going really well in our business,
in what our biggest area of opportunity is, and the rest of us try to come and support that person
with the networking, with the tips, with the strategies to help that person grow.
That's it. Wouldn't it be amazing if you had a group of people that were there simply just to
support your
business and your business's growth, who are on the same level as you or further along than you,
not behind you, but on the same level as you, with the same mission, with the same purpose,
or further along with you? Wouldn't that be amazing for you? Now, here's what always happens.
People always say, well, that's really great. I wish that I could have a network of people like
that. I wish that I could meet with people like that. Six, seven years ago, all I wanted was a
network of people who were incredible entrepreneurs that I could talk to, that I could learn from,
that we could benefit from being each other's friends. But I didn't have that network. I wasn't
from Austin. I didn't grow up here. And so I had to actually put myself out there and start to find
these people. So if you're out there and you're like, I do need to develop a circle of greatness,
how do I do it?
Well, let's talk about it.
The first thing is networking.
Now, let me tell you this for the, and this is the one I hate the most, if I'm being honest
with you, is networking.
But I forced myself to network.
And I don't like networking, to be honest with you.
I'm shy.
I don't like to go into networking.
They're pretty awkward. But I found some, you know, be honest with you. I'm shy. I don't like to go into networking.
They're pretty awkward.
But I found some diamonds in the rough from networking events.
And I would go to get coffee with them and brainstorm with them.
And then I'd meet their friends. And I started to grow a really great group of people simply from networking.
So networking is a way that you can meet new people.
Another way to meet new people is to think about the friends that you have and
to see if they have any friends. So you might have a friend and say, hey, listen, I'm a new
entrepreneur. I was just curious. Do you know anybody who's been an entrepreneur for a while
that's cool that we might get along? Maybe we could go get some coffee. Who do you know? Just
simply ask your friends right now if they know anybody else. So you can get friends of friends. And slowly over the years, took me about six years, I built my network to a
network that I really actually love and I think is amazing. I have a friends group. And maybe what
you do is you get a friends group together as well. Maybe what you do is you find a couple
entrepreneurs who are on this pursuit of greatness and they might
be newer, they might be a little bit further along the knee, whatever it is, but they're on
this pursuit. You can see the drive in their eyes and you go, you know what? I want to do a monthly
entrepreneur get together and share secrets and share our network with each other. How does that
sound? Do you think that if you were to find three to four other entrepreneurs and the four to five of you were
to meet every single month that you guys would help each other out? Absolutely. Hey, what's the
number one thing that's going well in your business? You talk about it. What's the number
one thing that you need the most help with right now? And then how can we as a group help you?
That's what's amazing about it. So when we go to our monthly group, we sit down and we say, hey, I need this.
I need a connection to this type of person.
Does anybody know somebody who is this type of person?
95% of the time, the answer is yes.
We can get a connection to somebody that we need.
And guess what?
It's like everybody says, it's not what you know,
it's who you know.
So if you can get connected to other people,
your business will explode.
So you can find people through networking, through friends, through friends of friends.
You can build a friends group.
You can make a monthly entrepreneur, get together and share your secrets and share your network,
or you can pay for them.
I think that paying for a mentor, paying for somebody who is around you and paying for
a consultation, whatever it is, is one of the best things that you could do.
I've done it many times because I would much rather shorten my learning curve even if it costs me money.
I would absolutely. And I'm a frugal person, but I will give my money up to make more money in the
long run. So you can pay somebody one-on-one. Sometimes there's entrepreneurs that will
take money to teach you stuff. They might be in your industry, but further along,
they might be in a different industry, but they know a bunch of really great people.
Can you pay for them one-on-one? That's a possibility. Can you get a consultation session
with them? Maybe you just need a eight-hour day with them. What would that cost to have a
consultation session with them? Or another thing you could do is you could look at joining
masterminds. One of the most valuable things that I think people can do is join a mastermind. If not the most valuable
thing that people can do to grow their business. And the reason why is because one of the most
valuable parts of joining a mastermind is networking. It's networking. It is.
I can literally tell you, I can think about three separate masterminds, the first three
masterminds that I joined. And I can tell you, I paid a good amount of money to be a part of them, but they paid off
every single time. The very first mastermind I ever joined, I learned the structure of part of
my business that I have now. I can't even tell you how much money that's made. Millions of dollars
over the past few years, right? And it will continue to make me much, much, much, much more money. The next mastermind that I joined, I met one person and we talk every single month, him and
I. And he added over the next 12 months of just knowing him at least another $800,000 to my
business just by knowing him. So did that pay off? Absolutely. It paid off. But I literally met other people at the event as well
that have helped me along the way.
But I met one person that completely changed my business.
So there's another example.
It completely paid off.
The next mastermind, I met one person.
I met many people that were incredible.
But I met one person who has a business structure
that's similar to mine, but doing over $20 million a year.
And I had an hour with him just to pick his brain and to fine tune what I do. Hey, here's what I do.
Here's my business. This is what it looks like. What do you do? And then why do you think that
what you do is, if it's different than mine, why do you think that it's better? And my brain
exploded because I was like, holy crap.
That one hour with that guy who was part of the mastermind will make me, just being brutally
honest, just so you guys know, because you guys don't, I don't like to sugarcoat anything.
Over the next three to five years, at least $10 million.
Do you think that mastermind paid off for me?
Absolutely.
Every single one of them has paid off by meeting somebody
who's either in my industry that can help me out and give me some more information and we can share
secrets with each other or meeting somebody who's not in my industry that we can still share secrets
because you can learn a lot from people that are in other industries and not in the same industry
as you. And you can steal little pieces from them. They can steal the pieces from you and you can take some information and grow your business from it.
And so you have to realize you can find people and grow your network and grow your circle of
greatness for free. You can grow it by paying for it. I recommend, if I'm being honest with you,
both because it is not valuable to find people who are on the level of not wanting to waste potential. They're on the
level of wanting to bring out the greatness inside of them and just see how amazing that they can
make it. So what it comes down to is being intentional about who you spend your time with.
Are you spending your time around people who think what you're doing is amazing and they're
yes men or maybe they're even talking down to you and telling what you do is stupid?
Or are you around people who inspire you, who push you, who want you to be better?
That's what you need to figure out.
Get around the people who challenge you, who push you to be better, and want you to make
the best out of your life.
So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
If you love this episode, please share with someone that you know and love.
If you're out there and you want to learn from myself and Dean, we consult and we have our own mastermind
where we actually teach people over the course of 12 months how to grow their businesses,
give them an amazing network, and also bring in some of the best people that we know
to help them grow their businesses as well. Email Dean, Dean at RobDial.com, D-E-A-N
at RobDial.com. Our mastermind is called the Kaizen Mastermind,
which is the constant never-ending improvement mastermind. That's what Kaizen stands for.
So if you're interested, send him an email and we can talk about what it would look like for you.
And I'm going to leave it the same way I leave you every single episode. Make it your mission,
make someone else's day better. I appreciate you and I hope that you have an amazing day.
