Starting point is 00:01:47 You guys ready for this? Eating frogs. And if you listened earlier, the episode that I had not too long ago was about doing what you do not want to do. Doing things that you do not want to do. Forcing yourself to do the things you don't want to do. To give you an idea, if I can force myself to do something that I don't want to do first thing in the morning, well, then it's very easy to do things that I should do throughout the rest of the day. So eating the frog is a phrase, there's a book called Eat That Frog and it's by Brian Tracy. Brian Tracy is an incredible author. He's also got a great book that I love. One of my favorite books called Maximum Achievement, which I would definitely recommend if you want to read a good book, Maximum Achievement by Brian Tracy. But basically what he talks about in Eat That Frog, if you were to take it and put
Starting point is 00:02:30 it into just a short phrase, is that what you should do is think about... Let me take a step back. If you think about procrastination and being lazy and not doing the things you don't want to do, when you make a to-do list, what do you usually do? You usually just check off the things that are easy to do. The things that don't require a lot of brain power, aren't scary to do like brush your teeth or do the laundry or do those types of things. You don't really go straight for the hardest thing on your to-do list, right? And then you don't feel like you got anything done. And the reason why was because you went for the things that should have not been prioritized. And the reason why you procrastinate on something is because you're afraid to do it. You're scared to do it. You don't want to do it. It's going to require a lot of time. It's going to be harder for you,
Starting point is 00:03:11 whatever it might be. That's why you procrastinate. So this has had one of the biggest impacts on my life is thinking about eating that frog. And I think about this all the time. And what eating that frog means is think of the task that you have for the day. That's think about this all the time. And what eating that frog means is think of the task that you have for the day, that's your biggest task of the day, the one that you would most likely procrastinate on or the one that you have been procrastinating on, the one that would have the biggest impact on your life in this moment. That is the frog. It is the biggest, ugliest task that you have on your list. And where this came from is Mark Twain has a quote that says,
Starting point is 00:03:49 first thing in the morning, eat a live frog, and that's probably the worst thing that will happen to you all day long. And so by eating that frog, what that is, is it means that you do the one big, hairy, ugly task first thing in the morning and check that off your list and then the rest of your day is a breeze. The rest of your day feels like you are productive because you got your most important thing done
Starting point is 00:04:14 first thing in the morning. That's what eating the frog is. It's about getting the things done that you don't want to do, but you know are gonna have the biggest impact on your life. Do the worst first. Let me on your life. Do the worst first. Let me say that again. Do the worst first because if you do that,
Starting point is 00:04:30 then the rest of the day is a breeze. If you do something that you hate doing or that you don't want to do first thing in the morning, then it's very easy to get the rest of the stuff done that you should get done. And what you do is you make a to-do list. And if you don't do to-do list, I would recommend them. I do something I teach in my group coaching called the meditation to-do list,
Starting point is 00:04:55 which is something that I just made up one day. And my group coaching people love it because it helps them get all of the stuff. People are always like, oh, I'm so ADD. It helps you get all of the stuff that's running around in your brain that keeps you from being productive and that you're worried about and should think about and it gets it all on a piece of paper. And it's a to-do list with meditation. It's pretty crazy. It's something that I made up. But what you should do either way is either the night before, which is what I recommend, or the morning after or the morning of when you wake up first thing in the morning, brush your teeth, whatever you need to do, you make your to-do list of things that have to be done that day. And the reason why the to-do list meditation is so good is because you usually get everything out of your head completely and you're so clear-minded. But if you don't know what the
Starting point is 00:05:33 to-do list meditation is, just basically what you want to do is get a to-do list because I'm not going to teach the to-do list meditation. It's a long thing and that's my group coaching. But make a to-do list and usually do it the night before of things that need to be done so you know. Or if you're going to do it the morning of, make your to-do list and then look at it and go, if nothing else on this list gets done, what is the most important thing on this list? Number one. And you find out you do it by priority. You rank it by priority, not just by checking off as many things you can. That doesn't matter. There's many times that I make massive to-do lists and I don't get even, you know, 90%
Starting point is 00:06:13 of them done. But what I do is I do the things that really matter the most, the things that are going to further my day. And this is something that's interesting to people. People always ask, I always say that you don't have to work hard. I'm sorry, let me take that back. You don't have to work harder to make more money. You just have to work smarter. And that's something that's been big for me is doing just the things that are the highest priority. So what I'll do in the morning is when I make my to-do list is I'll rank them and I'll find out what number one, number two, and number three are.
Starting point is 00:06:40 Those are the three most important things. And as soon as I get one done, then I go to two. And as soon as I get two done, then I go to three. But if I don't even get one done, I don't go to two. I don't go to anything else in the list. I eat the frog and I go for the first thing first. I go for the worst thing first, the thing that has to be done. This is mental training. This is about taking your mind to the gym. This is about making yourself do things that you don't want to do and doing things that you need to do in order to further your life and make you more successful. Because I remember years ago, I used to have things on my to-do list that I'd have them for days, sometimes weeks, and I'd never get them done. And I'd see them a couple weeks later and be like, I still did not do that. And that was the most important thing.
Starting point is 00:07:23 So if you want to work smarter and not work harder and not just fill up your time with getting this, just being busy doing laundry or, you know, sending emails back and forth, like I'm terrible at sending him, but I hate sending emails and I hate sending text messages. Um, so for me, that doesn't really have a very high priority, but certain things in my businesses, if I know this thing is the most important thing and this thing is going to make me the most money, I dive straight into that thing first and I spend the most time on that and I spend all day on it if I have to. So that's what eating the frog is. This is mental training. This is what the podcast
Starting point is 00:07:57 is about. This is what group coaching is about. This is what all of these things are about, is how can we train you to do what needs to be done to be the most successful as quick as you possibly can be. And by eating the frog and knowing what needs to be done first thing in the morning, you will be much more successful when you prioritize your to-do list. Don't worry about everything else. Just rank number one, two, and three and go for number one first. Don't go to number two first. Don't go to number three first. Do number one first, the one that is the most important, the one that will further your life along the quickest would be number one. Do the worst first. That is what eating that frog is all about.
