Starting point is 00:00:47 My name is Dean DeVries, and we're going to be diving into today a topic called power of belief with Rob Dial well why don't you dive in and tell us what your quote is yeah my quote is a very popular quote most people have probably heard before but I still love it and it is think you can think you can't either way you're right nice and who was that again? Was it Henry Ford, Confucius, all of the above? I think it was all of the above, but Confucius was probably before Henry Ford, if we're speaking chronologically. You're probably right about that. Well, yeah, tell us a little bit about what we can learn from that quote. Yeah, absolutely. So the power of belief is what we're going to dive in on.
Starting point is 00:01:25 And I'm a really firm believer in that statement that you can really do anything that you want. And a perfect example of that is the four-minute mile. And the mindset was before the four-minute mile, before anybody had ever accomplished and ran a four-minute mile, everybody thought that it was impossible. They literally thought that the human body would break down, and it was impossible. It was impossible to do it before 1954. And then in 1954, Roger Bannister did it in just under four minutes. And the crazy thing is, it was like a of years after that, it was like 10 or 15
Starting point is 00:02:06 people had done it within a couple of years. And I want you to realize that it's not that we just, we just randomly evolved in those, those next couple of years as a human race. What happened was nobody believed they could do it as stuff for Roger Bannister. Roger Bannister believed that he could, he did it. And then everybody else's minds changed, switched. And somehow they were able to do it. And the reason why was because once they were able to believe in it, they were able to work at it. And confidence comes with belief. And the more powerful your belief is, the more you will find a way to attract those things and accomplish that goal.
Starting point is 00:02:46 And your brain has this- Gosh, I am loving what you're saying right now. That is just, it's, I love that story too. And what you said about we didn't just evolve as a human race, we didn't evolve physically, but that just shows you how powerful our mind is that we evolve and our brain and our mind evolves. So I just wanted to piggyback on that. It's like a psychological governor. Exactly. Well, yeah, in terms of a psychological governor, speaking of, I mean, bring us back to a time, Rob, where you overcame a psychological governor in your life. Yeah. So I think probably the biggest time
Starting point is 00:03:27 for me was my first summer as a, what was it? A district manager in the company that you and I used to work for. I was back in 2009 and I had just turned 23 years old and I was really passionate on just breaking the record because I wanted to prove to myself that I could break the record for a summer sales. So in the first four months, yeah, the first four months of opening my office, going through the summer, the record was right around $450,000 in sales. And, you know, it's a 60-year-old company, so nobody had sold more than that in the 60 years. nobody had sold more than that in the 60 years. And, um, and I really just set myself up and believe so passionately that I could break that record that it was, it was my, my perfect little obsession. I was obsessed with breaking this record and it was just constantly training myself to know that I could break this record. And I knew from the beginning that I could do it.
Starting point is 00:04:22 And when I went into my office and I trained people and I brought them in and I knew from the beginning that I could do it. And when I went into my office and I trained people and I brought them in and I interviewed people and they came to my team meetings, I literally just bred as much passion as I could and belief into these people as well. And they could see it in my eyes, kind of like the, you know, once Roger Bannister did it, people saw it was possible. Well, in my eyes, it was already done
Starting point is 00:04:42 so that all of my people saw that, you know, it was going to be possible and they worked harder towards that goal. And, uh, it's, it's kind of like the quote, if you set yourself on fire, people will come to watch you burn people. People literally were just passionate about breaking that record. And so all of this huge team of people that just wanted to break that record. So it was 450,000 and some change. And in that summer, that four months, we ended up doing around $491,000 in sales and, you know, just demolished the record. So that's the thing I can think of. What an awesome summer, dude.
Starting point is 00:05:16 I remember that summer like it was yesterday. Yeah, that was the hardest I've ever worked in my entire life. I know you still have that piece of paper where I said, I'm going to beat you, dude, and then you just ended up crushing me and everybody else for that matter. Thanks for that, by the way. But yeah, man, I mean I've always known you to be a big thinker. And the goal that you had, I mean I know that that's a highlight into your life and into some of your goals that you've had in the past, but I just know you, you in general, just generally have very big goals. So, I mean, are you naturally just a big thinker? Have you
Starting point is 00:05:56 always been like that? Um, no, not really. Actually, absolutely not. I've never been that way. Um, and I kind of just tell you, so you have an idea of the way I grew up. I was one of those kids and everybody seems to have a story of being bullied and made fun of and stuff. But I was always bullied. I was always made fun of. I wasn't like the cool kid in school or anything like that. I grew up doubting myself a lot. And so being that type of kid that grew up that type of way, I didn't have confidence for a really long time. And until I actually learned that I needed
Starting point is 00:06:32 to start believing in myself and shoot for worthy goals. And I think that it kind of starts off, if you're not a big believer and you're not a big, you know, you don't have these huge mindsets and you don't think you could go out and kill the entire world and just destroy it and just do everything that you want to. And, you know, make this world your your biatch, I guess. What I would say is have a bunch of small goals and slowly make those goals bigger and bigger, because once you hit that first goal, you're like, oh, I did it. I can do that. You know, whether it's just lose, you know, three pounds, lose three pounds. And once you lose those three pounds, you're like, Hey, I could probably lose five more, whatever it might be. So you have a small goal and start to build up your confidence. And then those, those goals are going to get larger and larger. When I first started in that
Starting point is 00:07:16 company, I would have never thought I was going to ever even own an office, let alone, you know, sell almost $500,000 in the first four months open. But you have to realize that nobody's ever really done something in their life that they didn't believe that they could do first. And the biggest thing that I could say- Wow, that's huge, man. Yeah. And the biggest thing I could say is that you have to be very aware of your thoughts. And people don't think about this a lot. You need to analyze your thoughts all the time. Each and every thought that comes into your mind every single day, every single second of the day. And the reason why is because anytime you have a big goal or you have a big dream, there's always that voice in the back
Starting point is 00:07:54 of your head. Everybody has it. That voice that says, you can't do that. So you're like, oh man, I want to do this, this, this, this, this. Yep. I know that guy. And then that voice says, come on, I want to do this, this, this, this, this. Yep. I know that guy. And then that voice says, come on, dude, you're not that good. You can't do that. And you have to, you have to constantly analyze. And anytime that little voice creeps up, you have to, you know, if it says, no, you can't, you have to be like, yes, I fricking can. And I'm going to do it just in spite of you. And then, you know, after you start to set big goals, sometimes you just have to be unrealistic with stuff. And I love the phrase of being unrealistic because, you know, like for instance, speaking of unrealistic, Edison believed that he could have, you know, he could make a light bulb
Starting point is 00:08:36 so deep to his core that he was okay with failing 2000 times because he knew eventually he was going to make that freaking light bulb. Speaking of unrealistic, how unrealistic is it? If you actually take yourself out of, you know, 2015 that it is now that you walk into a room, you flip a little switch with your finger and it completely lights up. Like that's unrealistic. That is not normal. But luckily Edison did not think so. And now we all have lights inside of our houses. Thank goodness for that.
Starting point is 00:09:13 Yeah, that's awesome stuff that you just shared with us. Some things that I take away from that are, number one, that the small goals really build up to be huge victories. So small wins equals a big, you know, combiner equal a big victory. So that's huge. And that's such a good point. And something that we can always have confidence going into because sometimes when we, I know for me, when I look at this huge goal, I'm just like, oh my gosh, it's a little bit scary. And it almost like, you know, paralysis of analysis, just looking at it just makes me, you know, I can't move because I'm just like, oh my gosh, it's a little bit scary. And it almost like paralysis of analysis, just looking at it just makes me, I can't move because I'm too busy thinking
Starting point is 00:09:51 about how scary that is. But if you break it down into small wins, that's really the key there. So that's awesome, man. As we're about to wrap up, before we do that, can you please share with Motivation Nation how they can start today by overcoming their limiting beliefs and what's the first step? Yeah. I would say the first step is to stop doubting yourself. Just believe.
Starting point is 00:10:22 Believe in yourself is the first step. Just believe. Believe in yourself is the first step. You're capable of things that your mind cannot even possibly fathom. And it takes time. And believing in yourself, it takes a lot of work. You need to analyze your thoughts day in, day out. Eliminate all the negativity that you possibly can because what you focus on magnifies.
Starting point is 00:10:43 And if you think of negative stuff, you're going to get negative results. But if you constantly think positive stuff, you're going to get positive results. So I would say make sure you eliminate small thinking. Stop doubting yourself. Stop with limiting beliefs. Just believe that you can do it. You are so much more powerful than you understand. I can't stress that enough. And always be analyzing your thoughts because the more that you think about something, the more that becomes your perfect little obsession, you're going to find ways to get it done.
Starting point is 00:11:19 And it's funny that once you start on this path and say, all right, this is the path I'm going to go down here. And you have that goal set and you believe 100% to your core that you're going to do it. It's funny how like the world starts to like work to help you. And you start noticing little things you didn't notice before that could help you get to that goal. That's so big. Motivation Nation, ask yourself, when was the last time that you were held back by limiting beliefs? What are some of the things that you focus on that aren't positive and bringing positive things into your life? Are you listening to that inner punk within that says you're not good enough or you're not strong enough or you're not smart enough or you're not good looking enough. What I'm getting from Rob is change your belief and then change your life because they both go hand in hand. Change your belief, change your life.
Starting point is 00:12:18 And so that is it. Thank you so much for listening to this episode.
