So what I'm going to be talking about today is how to get out of a rut. And I've had this question,
oddly enough, asked to me a couple times this past week alone.
And the question is, do you ever get into a rut? How do you get out of a rut? Because sometimes
you can feel so motivated, you can feel on top of the world, and sometimes you can just feel down
in the dumps. And I've had this question come up, like I said, a few times.
And the question, how do I get myself out of a bad state, out of the feeling of not being motivated at all?
And the answer is that I don't ever get that way because I run a motivational podcast.
So I'm perfect.
No, I'm kidding.
That's completely not the case.
I feel like I get into a rut almost every single day, sometimes multiple times a day.
multiple times a day. And I think that's partially why I run a motivational podcast is so I can pick myself up out of it in certain ways to be like, you know what? I need to figure out ways to
motivate myself. I use myself as like the tester. I'm the guinea pig of the MWF motivation podcast.
Whenever I am starting to feel down, whenever I feel like I'm in a rut, I'm like, I need to get
out of this. What can I do to get out of this? And yeah, of course, guys, there's days, everybody has them. Sometimes multiple
times a day where you're just like, you know what? This sucks. I just want to lay down. I don't want
to do anything. Can I just stare at the ceiling for the next seven hours? Everybody has that.
And everybody has that feeling of not being motivated at all.
And the question of how do you get yourself out of a rut? There's a couple different answers of how I think you can get yourself out of a rut. The first thing is, obviously more than anything
else, is whenever you're trying to work towards something or go towards something, you have to
have a why. Why are you going into it? Why are you working for this? And when things get really hard and you get super unmotivated, you need to have that why
to remind you what you need to do.
And like I always say, if your why is strong enough, if why you're doing what you're doing
is strong enough, your how will reveal itself.
How you will do it will eventually reveal itself.
So that's the first thing.
And of course, I feel the exact same way
everybody else does multiple times a day. And I think one of the most common misconceptions
is that myself or, you know, I'll put myself, I don't want to put myself in this category,
but myself as someone who runs a motivational podcast or super ultra mega successful people
as they go, man, that person's so successful. They must have
it so easy. They must not worry about anything anymore. And I think that that's a misconception
that's completely false. I think that people who are ultra successful, uber successful, super rich,
might have great businesses with thousands of employees. They are some of the people who
probably get the most unmotivated because they have stuff flying at them from all
different angles and hitting them in all different angles as well. So for you, you might run your own
business or you might work for somebody else and you might have stuff come and hit you. But imagine
if you had a company that was worth a hundred thousand, a hundred million, a hundred billion
dollars, whatever it might be. If you have a thousand employees or 10 employees or 20 employees
or a hundred thousand employees, the more people that you have, the more that you have that can be
thrown at you, the more stress that you can have thrown at you. If you have a large company that
you run, guess what? You probably have a lot of stuff going on and a lot of stuff going wrong
every single day. So I think that's a common misconception is that the people who are the
most successful have figured out a way to just not be stressed out ever. And I think that's a common misconception is that the people who are the most successful have figured out a way to just not be stressed out ever. And I think that's a
complete misconception. I think they've just learned a way to deal with their stress better
than most people have, better than you and I have in order to become that successful.
And I would say that more than anything else, a human is a human, no matter
how successful they are, no matter what they own, no matter who they're in a relationship with,
no matter how much money they have in their bank account, no matter what it is, a human's a human.
They're going to eventually hit a point where they go, you know what? I don't feel like doing
anything today. I just want to sit in bed and eat Rocky Road's ice cream. I'm sure everybody gets in that mindset every once in a while.
But I'm going to give you three tips that I have found personally for myself
that I know tend to work for me whenever I'm feeling less motivated
and I want to become more motivated or find a way to start moving around.
And the first thing, the thing that I learned the most,
I would say more than anything else from the Tony Robbins conference I went to a few months ago, is to change your state.
Not move to a different state.
Change your state as your body.
Change your body state more than anything else.
Because in an instant, you can just completely change the state that you're in.
If you're completely depressed and it's terrible and you're crying and life is just hitting you and your
boyfriend or your girlfriend or husband or wife cheated on you or broke up with you, whatever it
is, you can make the choice to get out of that state. You have made the choice to get into that
state, to let whatever happened to you affect you the way that it has. You made that choice.
The best part about that is you can make the choice to get out of that state as well.
So what I mean by change your state, a couple of things.
Most of the time when you're unmotivated or when you feel like you've hit a wall,
it's the reason why is because you've been sitting down and working at your desk for a while.
So what you need to do is you need to stand up.
If you've been at your desk for a while, stand up, go for a walk.
Every 30 minutes, move around your office, change your body, change your state.
If you can
this might not be for people who are at work but you know maybe it's a saturday you know you have
to do stuff you're feeling unmotivated get your running shoes on and get your ass running move
move your freaking body because motion creates emotion motion creates emotion when you're sitting
down and you're not doing anything and you're not moving. It's very hard to figure out a way to become motivated
When you get up you change your state you change your body you change your movement
You change the emotion that you have and you start getting blood pumping
Have you ever gotten have you ever gotten to the gym and you're just completely unmotivated?
You're like I do not want to walk in this damn gym right now
But you figure out a way to go in and you have a workout. And after that workout, you're like, man, I feel incredible. But when you walked in,
you felt like crap and you felt like you didn't want to do anything. And then when you leave,
you feel like you could take over on the world. The reason why is because you went in and you
changed your state. You got your blood pumping. You changed your breath. So walk around, go for
a run, get your blood pumping throughout your body. Another part of changing your state is changing your breathing.
You know, breathing, one of the most key things that breathing does is it brings oxygen to
your blood and brings oxygen to the rest of your body as well.
So what you could do is take really deep breaths in through your nose, out through your mouth,
do it as many times as you can, as many times as you want.
Try to change your mouth. Do it as many times as you can, as many times as you want. Try to change
your state. And if you're at home, this is just something that I do sometimes. If I'm in a state,
maybe I went for a run. Maybe I've tried everything that I possibly can. Or maybe I'm
just like, you know what? I have 10 minutes, 15 minutes. I need to change my state really quick.
I'll run upstairs and I'll take a really cold shower. And I absolutely hate cold showers. But when you take a cold shower, it's like a shock to your nervous
system. And your body's like, all right, I'm awake. Let's get going. And I'll take a really
cold shower sometimes. And it might take just a few minutes, two minutes. Sometimes you have to
build up to it. I noticed I could stand like 10 seconds when I first started a cold shower.
And now, you know, it's getting further and further along 30 seconds, a minute, a couple minutes, because it's torturous to take a really
cold shower. So if you can do it, I would recommend taking a cold shower every single morning. I take
a hot shower. And then at the end, I make sure it's ultra cold, super cold, so that it literally
feels like I'm freezing because I'm waking up my nervous system to be like, all right, it's time to start the day. Let's get it going. So the first thing, if you're not
motivated to is to do is to change your state. The second thing to do is to brainwash yourself.
What I mean by brainwash yourself, there's an episode, if you haven't listened to it,
go back and listen to it. It's called brainwash yourself to Success. And what I mean by brainwash yourself is what can
you do right now to fill your mind to change the motivation or the state or to change the
inspiration to inspire you more? Do you have a podcast you can listen to? You can listen to my
podcast as much as you possibly want. There's a ton of other great podcasts as well. Listen to
all of those. Listen to podcasts, read books, watch YouTube.
If you can't watch YouTube, put YouTube on and then put it in a tab and just listen to it in
the background. Listen to audio books. I have a massive list of just talks and podcasts and books
and all of these things that I want to listen to. I don't have near enough time to get to all of
them. But what I make sure that I do is when I find something that's interesting,
I put the link into an Excel spreadsheet and go, I'm going to save this for later.
So when I find myself in that unmotivated state, I click on that YouTube and I either watch it
and try to absorb as much of it as possible, or I actually go to it and put it on in the
background and listen to it as I'm working or as I'm making breakfast or making coffee or whatever it is that's going on where I
feel unmotivated.
And this is something I literally do every single day is I listen to no matter what I'm
doing.
If I'm waking up and I'm cooking breakfast or I'm making coffee or I'm taking a cold
shower or I'm driving in my car, I am constantly, and I mean absolutely
constantly, brainwashing myself to be successful. I'm brainwashing myself to be successful in every
aspect that I can because sometimes I'll listen to something and I get so inspired by it that I'm
like, what the hell am I doing being so unmotivated right now? And it gives me that little bit of a
spark that I need to go out and be motivated. So the next thing that I would say is you could brainwash yourself. And the third thing is,
the last thing is do a fuel check. And what I mean by a fuel check is what have you put in
your body today? Maybe you forgot to eat because you were so busy, or maybe you've been filling
your body with crap. And guess what? The reason why you're feeling unmotivated is because your
body feels like crap and your body is trying to take all of the energy out of you in order to digest the crappy food that you just put into
yourself. So I would say more than anything else, all of these things, changing your state,
brainwashing yourself in the fuel check, make sure that you're putting the right stuff in your body
because think of it this way. If your body is a Ferrari, if you had a Ferrari, you can't put
diesel engine into it.
You have to put the premium oil into it.
It's the exact same with premium gas into it.
I hope you don't put oil in the gas tank.
But what I would say is you have to put the premium gas into it.
Your body is a super ultra efficient machine.
And if you're putting hamburgers
and you're putting French fries
and you're putting all of this crappy food into it
and Taco Bell and everything,
this fuel is going to slow your body down. It's like putting diesel gas into your Ferrari.
And you have to realize if you're feeling like crap, check and see what you're actually doing.
Are you taking a lot of sugar? Because sugar, what you have to realize will give you a huge
spike in your blood. Your blood sugar will give you a huge spike when you have sugar,
but it'll completely drop and
you'll feel like you're crashing. Sometimes if I'm feeling unmotivated, I just have to make sure
that I'm eating the right stuff and that will give me the energy that I need. I drink the tea that I
need to drink. I drink the, I take the B12 if I need to take B12. I have matcha tea. I have
pu-erh tea. I have yerba mate tea. All of these different teas that I drink throughout the day to give
myself more energy and stuff that's going to give my quote unquote Ferrari the fuel that it needs to
be successful. So if you ever find yourself in a rut, get this, you're not the only one. You're
human. Everybody, no matter how successful they are, is going to find themselves in a rut or in
an unmotivated state. But what you have to do is you have to change your state. You have to get up.
You have to do something. You have to do something.
You have to figure out a way to start moving your body
and changing your breath and getting the blood flow.
Number two, you have to brainwash yourself
constantly throughout the day.
Brainwash yourself as much as you possibly can
and try to figure out ways to be successful.
Pay for courses online that could help you
get out of the rut that you're in
or pay for courses that could help you go
from point A to point B of your goal setting or whatever it is that's going to motivate
you and put you in a motivational state. Or the last one, make sure that you do the full food
check, the fuel check and the food check to realize that you need to put the right stuff in your body
because if you feel like crap and you're unmotivated, the reason why is because you are
what you eat. If you're eating crap, you're going to feel like crap as well. With that, if you like this episode, please share it
