one person at a time here at MWF. And today what we're going to be talking about is fear.
You know, most people let fear stop them from taking the steps needed to achieve their dreams.
And some people will do anything, and I mean absolutely anything, to avoid fear.
And successful people, they feel the fear as well. I don't want you to think that they don't feel it,
but they feel it just as much as everyone else, but they don't let it stop them from what they want to do, what they actually know that they have to do in order to be successful. So they feel the fear, they embrace it, but they keep
doing what they have to. You know, most of the fears that we have today, they're not life
threatening. You know, hundreds of years ago, we had to be worried and, you know, be on our toes
to make sure that we didn't get attacked by mountain lions and all kinds of crazy stuff. But nowadays, you don't
really need to worry about being attacked by mountain lions on your way to your desk job or
whatever it might be. So we as humans, we're only really born with two fears and they're the fear
of falling and the fear of loud noises. Those are are only two real fears that we're born with as babies.
Everything else, we just tend to learn. And that's why people say that fear is an acronym.
The acronym is false expectations appearing real. That's all it is. False expectations
appearing real. We make stuff up worrying about the future for stuff that may never happen.
And I don't know if you have ever
heard about Will Smith and his mindset. If you go on YouTube and look up Will Smith mindset,
there's an incredible 10-minute video where just different interviews he's had and conversations.
You can kind of see the reason why this guy is so successful. He was a successful musician,
and now he's a really successful actor that makes $20 million a film. And the reason why is because of his mindset. And when he says, he says, fear is not real.
The only place that fear can exist is in our thoughts of the future. It's a product of our
imagination causing us to fear things that are not present and may not ever even exist.
and may not ever even exist. That is near insanity. Do not misunderstand me. Danger is very real,
but fear is a choice. Fear is a choice. I love that. So remember that today. Fear is a choice. We need to feel fear because we can't necessarily stop the fear, but then we always need to make
sure that we feel it. We know that it's there, but we continue to move forward. You know, break down your fears. You know, what are you fearing exactly? What's your goal?
And what are you fearing that's making you not go for that goal? You know, when I had a few
hundred sales reps that were under me as a sales manager, when I had my own office with a company,
you know, I would talk about a lot of sales reps have the fear of making phone
calls, right? And that would be their fear. And then I'd say, you have a fear of making phone
calls. What is the fear? And break it down and think about exactly what you're afraid of.
So let me give you an example. What I used to say was people are afraid of making phone calls.
What does that mean? They're afraid to pick up a piece of plastic,
dial seven different digits, and talk to another person on the phone.
And maybe that person says yes to them. Maybe that person says no. But are they going to die for making that phone call? No, they're not going to die for making that phone call.
So you got to think about what you're afraid of and think of, you know, is it really that big of
a deal? Or am I just building it up in my head and it's silly? So almost all of our fears are self-created.
We scare ourselves by thinking about the negative outcomes that could possibly happen, that might
happen if we pursue our dreams. But the funny thing is, these things probably won't even happen
if we pursue our dreams. Luckily, if we're the ones who
scare ourselves by making these fears up though, we can also be the ones that stop ourselves from
thinking this way. All of the fears that we make are in our mind, which is a great thing because
that means that we can reverse our thinking about it. So let me give you some tips on how to get rid of fear.
So number one, tip number one on how to get rid of fear, change your mindset. Change your mindset.
What are you afraid of? Think about it. And instead of thinking about, you know, what you're afraid of,
think about something that empowers you. Think about, remember a time when you succeeded.
You know, let me give the phone example again.
If somebody's a salesperson, and you can relate this to anything, and they're afraid of making phone calls because they might get a no, they might get some people that hang up on them or
something like that. Instead of thinking about the people that could hang up on you, think about
the time that you had your biggest sale and what it feels like to have that sale and how much money
you made off of that sale. So instead of thinking about the negative, change your mindset and think
about the positive of, hey, you know, I made X amount of dollars in that one phone call.
Well, man, maybe I should get on the phone and see if I can get that done again.
So the first thing, first tip, change your mindset. The second one is to make your goals bite-sized.
So I don't mean make your goals smaller.
I mean, take your goal and break it down.
Because sometimes our goals are so big that they paralyze us.
You know, it's kind of like if you have a to-do list, it's too long.
And then you're like, I can't do any of this because I don't know where to start.
You know, so take your goal and break it down.
So let's use the phone example again.
Let's say you're a sales rep and you need to make 80 phone calls today. Instead of thinking about
the 80 phone calls that you have to make, because 80 is a big number, that's going to take some
time. Break it down and think, you know what? I only needed to make 10 phone calls this hour.
That's all I need to worry about is my 10 phone calls this hour. You know, let's say that for instance, you want to run a mile. Maybe you're starting to run and you hate running,
but you want to run your first mile. You don't want to think about the entire mile that you have
to run. Just go outside, look at the next tree that's in front of you and concentrate on getting
to that next tree in front of you. After you pass that tree, concentrate on getting to the next tree.
And then concentrate on getting to the next tree.
And concentrate on getting to the mailbox.
And then the next house.
And instead of looking at the entire mile and worry about the entire mile,
just break it down into smaller bite size.
So like I said, don't shrink your goals.
Just cut them into smaller pieces that don't paralyze you thinking about the big goals.
And the third thing, the third tip I'm
going to give you, don't think about the goal that you have in mind. Think about the why behind the
goal. It's always good to have a why behind your goal. You know, why do you need to make 80 phone
calls today? What's the why behind it? Because you want to make, you know, $2,000 this week or
whatever it might be. Break it down and think about the why. You know, for instance, if you're
a female and you're trying to get ready for, you know, you're trying to get in the best
shape of your life, you know, instead of thinking about, oh, I have to go to the gym today. I have
to eat this food. Think about the why. Why do you want to get that? Is it because you want to look
better in a bikini that you've never, you know, let's say you've never looked good in a bikini
and your goal is to look good in a bikini. That's your why. Well, then think about your why and that should motivate you to get to the gym. So the three things, the three things
get rid of fear. Change your mindset. Make your goals bite-sized. And number three, don't think
about the goal. Think about the why behind the goal, why you want to hit that. If you don't know
what I mean by the why behind the goal, if you go back to one of the first six episodes, we talk about goals and we talk about finding your
why. Find your why in the goal. So what I'm going to leave you with, as always, make it your mission
today to make somebody else's day better. I really appreciate you taking time out of your day to
