And today I'm going to go over something by Dale Carnegie called Just For Today.
And this is actually something from Dale Carnegie's book called How to Stop Worrying and Start Living.
And the challenge is to try to do these 10 things that I'm going to give you just for today
and just see how today is. So if it's the beginning of the day for you,
go ahead and implement these into your day. If it's the end of the day for you, go ahead and implement these into your day. If it's the end of the day for you, jot them down.
Use it for tomorrow.
Listen to this episode again tomorrow.
Whatever is easiest for you.
And I'm going to go ahead and read through this and then give you a couple quick thoughts
just at the end of each one of these and see how it helps you through the day and see if
it makes your day much better.
So how to stop worrying and
how to start living is the book. Just for today. So number one, just for today, I will be happy.
This assumes that what Lincoln said is true. It's that most folks are about as happy as they make
their minds up to be. Happiness is from within. It is not a matter of things that
happen externally. So what does that mean? That means stop concentrating on the negative things
that happen in your life and focus on the positive things. I have an episode coming up,
which is about focus and what we focus on because what we focus on grows. So if you focus on the
negative things, your day will in turn be more negative. If you focus on because what we focus on grows. So if you focus on the negative things,
your day will in turn be more negative.
If you focus on all of the positive things
and focus on being grateful,
you will then have a happier, more positive day.
So just for today, I will be happy is the first one.
The second one is just for today,
I will try to adjust myself to what is
and not try to adjust everything to my
own desires. I will take my family, my business, and my luck as they come and fit myself to them.
That means take life as it is and deal with it in the most practical manner. You know,
don't try to change the people around you. Don't try to change your business to certain ways that you need to.
Don't try to take everything that's around you and change it to the way that you want it to be.
Take them the way they are and figure out how to deal with them the correct way.
So that's number two.
Number three, just for today, I will take care of my body.
So that's number two. Number three, just for today, I will take care of my body. I will exercise it, care for it, nourish it, not abuse it you see that food, I understand because I'm a huge candy freak.
I love sugar.
But I have to keep myself away from it because I know that if I have sugar,
it's going to give me a big boost of energy for about five minutes,
and then I'm going to have a huge crash.
And if I want to have a productive day, I can't have that huge crash.
It just doesn't work for me, that race.
So today, take care of your body.
Put the right stuff in it.
Make sure that you exercise to give yourself more energy and to make sure that if you're
going to have a great day, you have the energy to go through and do so. So number four, just for
today, I will strengthen my mind. I will learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort,
thought, and concentration. It's like my old manager used to say. He used to always say,
you're either green and growing or brown and dying. That's the only way to be. There's no
way to just stay stagnant because if you're not going forward and you're just staying in the same
place, you're actually going backwards. So each day, try to strengthen your mind.
Try to figure a way to make yourself better today than you were yesterday.
So if you get at home, instead of sitting and turning on the TV
or getting onto Facebook or going through Instagram,
try to read something that you can actually benefit from reading.
So that's number four.
Number five, just for today, I will exercise my soul in
three ways. I will do somebody a good turn and not get found out. I will do at least two good things
I don't want to do, as William James suggests, just as an exercise. So what does that mean?
Do good and expect nothing from it. Not even recognition.
The point is to do something and to have someone not find out about it.
Do something good and have someone not find out about it.
Then do two things that you don't want to do to build the mental fortitude.
Because successful people, at times, they have to do stuff that they do not want to do.
So build up the mental fortitude to do two things today that you don not want to do. So build up the mental fortitude to do two things today that
you don't want to do so that you can get used to getting those things done in order to be successful.
Number six, just for today, I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress properly,
talk low, act courteous, give praise to many, not criticize at all, nor find fault with anything,
and not try to regulate nor improve anyone. So this one means be humble today. Give out as much
praise as you possibly can. Do not expect anything in return. Do not criticize or tell people what they can do better. Tell people
when they do well and expect nothing from it. So be humble today. Number seven, just for today,
I will try to live through this day only, not tackle my whole life problems at once.
So that means be present. Don't worry about things that are out of your control. Don't worry about things that could happen in the future
because who knows, we might not even make it to tomorrow.
So why should we waste today
worrying about what could happen tomorrow?
So the thing is to make sure
that you get done on your to-do list,
whatever you can get done today.
Like I said in the last episode,
knock off your most important things today.
That's all that really matters.
Knock out a couple of things.
Don't worry about what's coming up tomorrow.
Get whatever you can get done today.
Number eight, just for today, I will have a program.
I will write down what I expect to do every hour.
That's a key word, keywords, every hour.
I may not follow it exactly, but I will have it.
It will eliminate two pests, hurrying and indecision.
So today, make a schedule for every single hour
of exactly what you need to be done.
And obviously your day could change around a little bit,
but it will take out, like it says, the two pests.
Hurrying, which means that you're like,
oh crap, I forgot to do this.
And then you don't get stuff done as well. And indecision, which is like, what should I do right
now? So make a schedule for today so you will be able to get more done and make sure that it goes
by every hour. Number nine, just for today, I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax.
I will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. In this half hour, I will get much more perspective into my life. That means no phone, no internet. Give your mind a little bit of a break
and just be still. You'll find that when you try to do this, you try to give yourself a half hour
of no music, of no cell phone, of no internet, that you start to get very antsy. And if you
think about that, that's not a good thing to get antsy when you're doing nothing.
Because what that means is we're starting to become very addicted to all of the things going
around us. We're addicted to our phones, we're addicted to the internet, to the TV, to music,
to all of this stimuli that's coming in. So for a half hour today, try to relax, be all by yourself,
a half hour today, try to relax, be all by yourself, and just sit and give yourself perspective in your life and think. And if you start to get very antsy, realize that's not a good thing.
That means we're starting to become addicted. So what does that mean? You probably need to
give yourself a half hour or a little bit longer every day to start getting away from all of this
stimuli that we have in the world. So that's number nine. And number 10, just for today, I will be unafraid.
Especially, I will not be afraid to be happy,
to enjoy what is beautiful,
to love and to believe that those I love, love me.
So be unafraid, be happy, allow yourself to be happy,
enjoy the beautiful things in life,
love everyone around you and believe that everyone that you love loves you back as well.
So this is the challenge for today. Those are the 10 things. If you need to go back and listen to
it, I suggest that you do. And obviously this is a challenge for today, but the real challenge,
the real goal is to do this every single day, to listen to this episode every day,
or to make your notes and read those every single day. These are the most important keys to being
happy and having a successful life, to help you think and act cheerfully so you can be cheerful,
so you can be happy. Think happy and positive thoughts versus negative so that you can be happy
and positive and create the happy and positive
and successful life that you want.
So the two things that I'll leave you with today,
number one, try to get these 10 things down.
If you're driving your car,
which everyone sticks out to you the most,
try to remember that one and use that today.
And the second thing, as always,
try to make your mission today to make somebody else's day better.
