And if you like this episode, all I ask is that you share with a friend. This is going to be a fun episode because it is talking about an experience that I am starting to put into practice. And that practice
is to say yes to everything, as long as it's legal, just to say yes to everything. And I believe that
people, you know, because we fear a lot of things, we're predisposed to
saying no.
So, you know, we'll put up a guard to protect ourselves because we know that if we say yes
to certain things, it can push us out of our comfort zones and make us do things that we're
not 100% comfortable with.
Now, I know it's easy to go to work, to sit in the exact same desk, to take the exact same route home,
to eat at the exact same places, to come home and watch the same TV shows.
But this is about getting out of your comfort zone. Successful people learn to be okay with
the unknown and find comfort in doing things that make them uncomfortable. So why not try to be
the type of people, you and I, try to be the
people that are okay with being uncomfortable? You know, if we want to be successful, if we want to
live happy lives, why not try to be uncomfortable with certain things? Why not push ourselves out
of our comfort zones? Why not start saying yes to everything and just see what type of weird experiences we can get ourselves into.
Because saying no can make things very boring. You know, if you've been in a rut lately or within
the past six months, ask yourself how many new things you have done lately or in that time when
you were in a rut. You know, how many times did you go and put yourself out there
and try new things and meet new people and go places that you've never been before and try out
new adventures? You know, when was the last time that you got the guts to get up on stage and
go sing karaoke? I know for me, I absolutely love karaoke and some people just don't like doing it
because they don't like their voices. And obviously, you know, I've taken vocal training and stuff, but my favorite song to sing,
you can ask anybody who's ever done karaoke with me and people who haven't still sometimes know
my song, like my go-to song is Bohemian Rhapsody. I will sing that entire song. It's like three
songs in one and I will headbang the entire time. And I will make a
complete fool out of myself in front of a whole bunch of people that I don't know. So, you know,
when was the last time that you got on stage and did karaoke? What's holding you back? Is it
the fear of people judging you? Who cares if people judge you? You're probably never going
to see 95% of them ever again the rest of your life. You know, when you're alone and your absolute
favorite song comes on, you're the only person
in the house and your favorite song in the world comes on. Do you sing it? You know, I bet that you
do. And why do you sing it? Because it makes you feel alive. It makes you come alive. So why
suppress that feeling because other people around, because you're worried about what they might think
of you, you know, why not go out and just have fun? You know, and people have fun
when they go out and they just do new experiences. They try new things. They have fun.
And it's like John Vroman said in the episode, if you go back a couple episodes, about living life
in the front row, where he said, why not just go next time you go up to a stoplight, just dance in
your car as hard as you possibly
can at the next stoplight. Don't worry about who sees you. And you know, it's there where you're
going to realize that we're taking ourselves too seriously. It's like the quote Marianne
Williamson says, as we let our light shine, we unconsciously give others their permission to do
the same. As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence actually liberates others as well. So if you go, you guys have probably seen it,
you pull up to a stop, or you see someone just completely rocking out and having fun,
and it makes you laugh. It makes you go, wow, I should probably stop taking myself so seriously.
Why not be that person that liberates others as well?
You know, what have you said no to lately
that could have been fun and opened up new doors to you?
You know, did you say lunch with coworkers?
Did you say no today?
Or, you know, weekend trips with new friends
or not going rock climbing
because you're afraid of heights?
You know, the thing is to not think about the dangers
in the unknowns of what you're doing. Think about what you're missing out on by saying no,
because it is inarguably our experiences, the things that we've gone through, everything in
our lives that make us who we are. So by saying no to these things, you are hindering yourself
from your own growth and possibly becoming even a
better person with more life experiences and even better stories. You're hindering yourself. You're
holding yourself back by doing this. You know, when you go out to the bar, do you just go to
the same bar every time? Or do you go to other bars? Or when you go out to the bar, do you order
the exact same drink, your favorite drink every single time? Why not next time you go to a bar, make it your mission, close your eyes, put your finger down
and whatever your finger orders, you're going to have to drink. You know, why not just try something?
Do you go to the same restaurants all the time? Why not try something new and order something
that you've never heard of that's made of stuff that you've never heard of? You know, why not try
that type of stuff? You know, do you
take the same way home every single day? Why not switch it up and see what you may find on the way
home? The other day, my girlfriend, it was her dog's birthday. So we took him to go get puppy
treats at this place. And I took a wrong turn and we were completely flabbergasted by these houses
that we just randomly came across
because we took a wrong turn. And then this past weekend on Sunday, we went out to go get lunch,
and we took a wrong turn as well and found this awesome park that's on the lake, on the river
down here in Austin that's surrounded by all of these hills. And it was just this beautiful place,
and we had to mark it down. We had to go to lunch, but we had to mark it down as in, this is, you know, we need to come back to this place. This
looks incredible. So, you know, why don't you take a different route and see what you might
come up with? Why not push yourself out of your comfort zone? Stop doing the same things all the
time. Start saying yes to everything. Start taking a different way home. Start ordering different
drinks, different foods, go to different bars, go to different restaurants. Because here's what you're going to find out by saying yes, that there are
infinite things that we could be doing with our time right now. And there are so many experiences
out there for us, for us to learn, for us to grow, to us become even better, more improved
versions of ourselves. So we need to stop holding ourselves back because
we keep saying no to stuff and we keep doing the same things that are inside of our comfort zone.
So it was my mission to say yes to everything this week. And let me tell you what so far,
today is only Tuesday. Let me tell you what saying yes to everything this week has gotten me into so
far. It has gotten me coffee and lunch with two people
that I had never met before to do some networking. It got me entered into a charity poker event for
tomorrow. It got me booking a trip to Europe this winter out of nowhere for six or seven days.
And it also got me the decision to go to Southeast Asia for my 30th birthday next year.
also got me the decision to go to Southeast Asia for my 30th birthday next year. So think of all of the experiences. This is two days of saying yes for me. And I have all of this stuff and all
of these experiences. And some of you might go, holy crap, that saying yes thing is really going
to be expensive for you. But I am more about paying for experiences versus paying for things.
And I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am for these experiences that I've
signed up for in the past two days. So by saying no, what are you missing out on? My challenge is
to you for today, for one day, for 24 hours, don't say no to anything. Say yes to everything.
Once again, as long as it's legal, I would prefer that you do it for a week like I am. Just say yes
because you might like who you become in the process
and the new experiences you start to find.
So your mission is to say yes
to as many things as you possibly can
in the next 24 hours.
That is what I'm going to leave you with.
And the last thing I'm going to leave you with is always
make it your mission, guys,
to make somebody else's day better.
