I hope that I bring you some
amazing value and that you absolutely love this episode. And what I'm going to be talking about
today is who the most important person in your life should be. The most important person in your
life, who that should be. And if you have not yet done so, please subscribe to us on iTunes,
Stitcher, or SoundCloud, however you listen to us. And if you like this, please share with a friend. So who is the most important person in your life? And I had a
conversation this morning with someone, and we talked about the most important people in someone's
life. And some people, we said, you know, it's their significant other, it's their mom, their
dad, their brother, their sister, all of their children. And we started talking about this.
their brother, their sister, all of their children. And we started talking about this.
And what we started saying, what I said to them is that it really can't, those people cannot be the most important person in someone's life. Now, those could be the people that they love the most.
They could love the most their significant other and their children, their mother,
brother, sister, father, everybody around them, but they can't be the most, their significant other and their children, their mother, brother, sister, father,
everybody around them, but they can't be the most important one. Those must never be the most
important one. The most important person in your life should always be you. That should be the most
important person in your life. Let me explain what I mean by this, because you might be thinking,
this guy's crazy. I'm going to turn him off. Don't turn me off. I mean by this, because you might be thinking this guy's crazy. I'm going
to turn him off. Don't turn me off. I promise you this is going to make sense. When you're on a
plane and they go through the safety instructions and they say, okay, if the oxygen masks fall,
they always say, put the oxygen mask on who first? This isn't a trick question. They say to put it on
yourself. They say, put the oxygen mask on yourself first.
Why?
Why is that?
Because when you do that, you then have oxygen flowing and you can then help the people around
you put their oxygen masks on.
You're giving yourself oxygen and getting yourself safe, which allows you to help those
around you.
And, you know, God forbid this happens,
but what if that oxygen mask were to come down and you turn to the person next to you and you
put it on them first. And as you're putting it on, you run out of oxygen. Well, then you're both
screwed. That person is screwed because now you didn't put the oxygen mask fully on them.
And you're screwed because you don't have an oxygen mask on period. It's the exact same way
in life.
And I talk to parents and I understand some parents could be listening to me and saying,
you know, this is malarkey.
There's no possible way that the most important person in my life should be me.
And I've coached parents.
I've talked to parents.
And they always say that their kids and their significant other are the most important people.
I understand the thought of that.
The people that you love the most should be your significant other, your kids. But when I talk
about the most important person, some people spend all of their waking hours dedicated just to their
children, which is absolutely crazy commendable. I can't even imagine spending all of my time
dedicated to somebody else. So I commend the people, the stay at home mothers and the stay at home fathers that
do that. And then they don't take any time for themselves because they're spending so much time
with their kids and helping their kids and helping them get along. They don't have any
quote unquote me time. The me time that, you know, allows you to read, that allows you to grow, that allows you to do what you want to do
to become a better person yourself. And if you think about it this way, if let's say I have kids,
right? And I don't read, I don't do any of that stuff. And every waking moment almost is spent
with my kids and spent on helping my kids and helping them grow, well, then in three years, I'm going to
be the exact same parent in three years as I am today. And think of it this way. If I were to take
the me time, and we all need the me time. If I were to take the me time and allow myself to read
for 15 or 30 minutes and to grow and to become a better person and to become a better
parent, well then in three years, I will have become a better person. I will become a better
Rob. I will become a better parent. I will become a better spouse. I will be a better parent who
offers their child more than I did three years ago. And if you were to do the math, it's absolutely crazy.
And the reason why is because if you were to just sit there and say, okay,
if I were to take 15 minutes a day, 365 days in a year times three years,
that is 16,425 minutes of personal development. So over three years, if I take 15 minutes a day, if I wake up
30 minutes before my kids wake up, I don't have kids, but I'm just using this as an example.
If I take 15 minutes and try to become a better person to read and to grow and to become better,
well then in turn, that is 16,425 minutes over the next three years. Do you realize how much
better of a parent and how much better of a parent and how much
better of a person and how much more I can actually offer to my children at that point in time?
Besides just the personal growth, besides helping them become better people, there's also the aspect
of if I spend that much time with personal growth, well, then you can also figure out how much money
that's going to make me in my bank account. That could completely
change my life. That could completely change my kid's life. That could completely change the
future. And if you think about it, the most important person should always be you. And if
I completely understand if you're one of those parents and it's just you go to work or you spend
all day with the kids or when you come home from work, it's just all the kids and everything. I
completely understand it. I know a lot of people that are like that, and I commend
you for being such a great parent and doing that. But you also have to make sure that you put aside
the me time. That's what I'm trying to get at. You're the most important person in your life
because you're the person that grows and fosters the people in the relationships around you as
well. So what I want you to make sure that you take out of this
is that the most important person in your life should always be you.
You can love everybody else more,
but you have to make sure that you take care of yourself first.
Remember the oxygen on the plane.
Make sure that you always put the oxygen on yourself first.
Then you can help all of the others around you.
So that's what I wanted to leave you with today.
And the last thing that I want to leave you with,
as always, please make it your mission today
somehow to make somebody else's day better.
And if you like this, please share it with somebody.
We're trying to change the world.
And I hope that you have an absolute,
incredible, amazing, awesome day.
And so that is it.
