Before we dive into today's episode, if you would like a free copy of our motivational ebook called Hack Your Goals, the Step-by-Step Guide to Achieving Success, go to mwfmotivation.com and download it.
It's already been downloaded over a thousand times, so go ahead and get your copy now.
All right, I'll get you the podcast right now.
Welcome to the MWF Motivation Podcast, which I am proud to say has been rated the number one podcast in iTunes new and noteworthy in six different categories, including self-help
and business, and is a podcast designed to help you grow into the best version of yourself
in 10 to 20 minutes.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we'll take a life topic, break it down, discuss it,
and leave you with thoughts to impact your life and mind. My name is Rob Dial, and the podcast
starts now. Welcome to the MWF Motivation Podcast. My name is Rob Dial, and I'm excited for today's
episode because we're
going to do something different. We're going to do an episode called Ask Rob. I don't act like
an expert in anything. I just know that people like to hear some of the stuff that I say and
I have been getting a ton of emails lately, which is awesome. And it's very hard to email every
single person back. So I figured with all of the questions that are coming in, I might as well just every once in a while, maybe once a week or once a month, depending on
how many questions I get, just have an episode that answers your questions. And the reason why
is because if you're having this problem, if somebody's having a problem, there's a pretty
good chance that there's a lot of other people that are having a problem or have a question and
whatever it might be. And if you want to get my take on it, I would love to give you my
take on it. So I'm going to go ahead and dive in and go through some of the questions that I've
been getting. And if you want to ask me a question, you can email me rob at mwfmotivation.com.
Once again, rob at mwfmotivation.com. And just make the title Ask Rob.
Whatever question that you have for me, I can give you a shout out if you want.
If you don't want me to use your name, just let me know and I will not use your name.
So the first question that I have, I have been getting a lot of emails from Australia.
I've just realized that my podcast has kind of been blowing up in Australia, which is
interesting.
I don't know how it happened, but I love it because I love Australians.
They're some of the most fun people I've ever met when I was in Europe.
Loved hanging out with Australians because they're a lot of fun to be around.
And the first question that I have is, what do I have to say about naysayers slash really
negative people and how is it best to deal with them?
Yeah, that's an interesting question.
There's a lot of naysayers and really negative people in the world. And what do I have to say with them? Yeah, that's an interesting question. There's a lot of naysayers and really
negative people in the world. And what do I have to say about them? I have to say that honestly,
I try to stay away from them. If there's somebody that's in your top five and they're a negative
person or a naysayer, I would try to get them out of your top five. You don't have to never see that
person again. But what I would recommend is trying to spend less time with them. And the reason why is because I don't have time for negative people. I try to keep my life as positive
as possible. And people who hang out with me and know me know that I am extremely positive in
anything that I do. And if I ever see a negative person or if we're out somewhere and a negative
person happens to be in a group that I'm in, I just like to walk away. And the reason why is
because I don't like being around negative people because I feel like it's a bad apple that could,
you know, their negativity could infiltrate my brain and I'm trying to keep it as positive as
possible. So that's what I have to say about negative people and how to deal with them.
The next question is from the same person and it says, the other question relates to a thing here
in Australia called, quote unquote,
tall poppy syndrome. I don't know what tall poppy syndrome is. I've never heard of it. But it says,
basically, if you start to achieve and move upwards and onwards, it creates a level of
resentment in certain people and groups. We'll go to great lengths to cut the person down to size. It appears that the harder you work
towards your goals, there are those who will work doubly harder at making your transition difficult
or near impossible. I'm not sure if you get this kind of thing or behavior in the USA
or other parts of the world, but would love to get your take on it.
Absolutely. I think that there's always people like that. There's always jealous people. There's always people that try to cut you down. It's like the phrase, the higher the flag goes,
the harder the wind blows. And as you go and progress towards your goals and you tell people
about your goals, you're going to have naysayers. You're going to have people who try to cut you down. And the reason why, honestly, in my personal opinion,
is because I think those people are jealous of you going in and pursuing your goals and wanting
to be the person that you want to be. And the reason why they're jealous of you and they're
mad at you and they try to cut you down is because they will not do the same themselves. They don't
have the mental fortitude to go out and follow their dreams and try to become the best version of themselves.
So therefore, it's easiest just for them to make themselves temporarily feel better
by saying something bad to you or by cutting you down or trying to make you feel worse.
And I guess you Australians would call it tall poppy syndrome. I think that's everywhere. I think
that no matter where it is, no matter who you are, no matter what you're trying to become, there's always
going to be the people that are jealous. They're always going to be the people that try to cut you
down. But like I said, in the first question, I think you just have to kind of block them out
and realize that it's your life and you're going on your path and you're going to get those types
of people. Don't let them get in the way of what you want to become. The next thing is not a
question. I've got a couple emails on this that says, I haven't been able to download the book
you talk about in the podcast, Hack Your Goals, A Step-by-Step Guide to Achieving Success.
So in order to get this, if you go on to mwfmotivation.com and you put down your email,
it'll send it to your email, ask you to confirm. And here's the key
thing. After you confirm your email, it will send you another email. And in a small font, it says,
I don't know why it's so small of a font. I wish I could fix it. It says, download your copy of
the book here. And you just have to click that link. So if you haven't been able to download it,
go back to your email and try to download it from that
confirmation that you originally got. The next question says, I'm actually beginning to read
Hack Your Goals, a step-by-step guide to achieving success, but do you have any good book
recommendations for personal development that have inspired you that I can read? Yeah, absolutely. I
have probably about 200 I could probably give you guys to read. The ones that I can read? Yeah, absolutely. I have probably about 200 I could probably give you
guys to read. The ones that I would say, number one, the first personal development self-help
book I ever read was given to me by my very first mentor when I was 19 years old and I hated reading.
And the book is called the five, God, let me think of what it is.
It's Jim Rohn, The Five Major Pieces to a Life Puzzle,
I think is what it's called.
Let me see, five major pieces.
Yeah, Five Major Pieces to the Life Puzzle by Jim Rohn.
And it's a very short book, but it's really good.
It's kind of the first one
to get you into the self-development.
Yeah, it's only 121 pages.
It's super easy to read.
I took a lot of notes.
I highlighted a lot of stuff.
That's the first one I would say if you're brand new to it.
Jim Rohn is really, really good in personal development and self-help.
Another book I would say, which is pretty much timeless, is Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon
Hill.
Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is, I don't know, probably 80 years old, somewhere
around there, maybe even
older. But it's basically the keys to being successful. And they haven't really changed
that much over the past 80 or 100 years. So I would say that book. Another book I would say
is The One Thing by Jay Papasan, who was actually on the podcast. And I said even before I had him
on my podcast, he was my favorite book that I've read this year. And I'm about 40 books that I've read this year so far. So it says a lot. It's definitely
a good book. And another one is Talent is Overrated, which I'm going to have an episode on
eventually. But I would say before you do all that, download our book. The reason why is because
it's just basically, I just took the keys from all of the books I've ever read and tried to put
it into a very short 37-page format for you.
So those are the books that I would recommend.
If you want more, I could give you a million more, but I would say start with any of those four that you haven't read.
And another question says, despite MWF Motivation being my favorite podcast, is there any other podcasts that you would recommend that are about personal development?
Some of my personal favorites as far as podcasts
go, Lewis Howes, School of Greatness is one of mine. The reason why is because it's just he has
some really good people that are on his podcast and his is almost all, well, I guess it's kind
of changed in the past six months or so. It was almost all interview format. Now there's some
five minute real quick ones that he does every once in a while. But I would say Lewis Howe School of Greatness is a really good one. Mike Dillard's Self-Made Man
is a really good one. He has a lot of really good guests on as well. Ask Gary V Show, which is Gary
Vaynerchuk, who is, you know, he's a little intense for some people, but I love his intensity. And I
love the stuff that he says about building social brands and all of these things. He's an incredible person as far as the stuff that he's
done and the companies that he's built. Those would be the ones that I would recommend as far
as other podcasts besides mine. If you want to listen to them, go ahead. I definitely recommend
it. It says, let's see, in this last episode, you mentioned attending seminars as part of a
challenge. This person says that they have mentioned attending seminars as part of a challenge.
This person says that they have some anxiety and I may be a little bit weary since I've never been
to a seminar. I don't know what to expect, but I will challenge myself to at least try it.
How do I go about finding these seminars? Yeah, it depends on what type of seminar you want to
find. I think more than anything else. For me, I like personal development seminars
seminar you want to find. I think more than anything else. For me, I like personal development seminars and I like just personal development and personal growth. I think that the way I find them
is I just Google personal growth seminars and then see what pops up. And I like to put like
best personal growth seminars of 2016. And there's going to be an articles that'll pop up with five
or 10 different ones. And you can look and see if there's any of them that are near you or any of them that you would travel to. And
I'd recommend going to one or two of them and just see what they're like. There's a lot of really
good people that can be around that you can network with. But it depends on what you're into.
If it's just that, if it's just personal growth, I would just look up personal growth. But there's
a lot of seminars that I would recommend you go to just look up whatever you're interested in. If you're interested in tech technology or internet
marketing, just look up internet marketing seminars and try to get to some of them.
And that's the answer to that question. And the last one, which is also from the same person,
it says also what type of seminars are best to attend? I guess they just answered that one.
Last question. I don't have to make conversation with people if I don't feel comfortable, do I? Absolutely not. You don't
have to make conversation because you will still learn at all of these. There's a lot of really
good people that give really good information, but I would recommend stepping out of your comfort
zone, even if you do have some anxiety and just trying to talk to some new people and try to
network with some people. I always say that anytime I go to a networking event, I try to get at least one, possibly
two, but at least one really good connection of somebody that is really good to have in
my network.
And what you do, the key to that is to not try to use that person for your personal gain.
It's just to build up a personal network of people who are your friends.
And then you talk to them about what they do and about what their goals are and see if you know
anybody that you could recommend connecting to them as well. Because what they're reaching out
for and what they're trying to get by coming to these networking or seminars is to get better
themselves at what they do, either personally or business as well. And maybe you can help them.
And when you help people, people want to help you back. So do you have to talk with people and make
conversation at the seminars? No, you don't have to. You don't have to do anything you don't want
to, but I would recommend pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone just a little bit and try to
make at least one really good connection. So that is it for this episode. This was the first
Ask Rob episode.
And I just wanted to do this because it's a lot easier and a lot quicker for me with
all of the emails that I have coming in to do this.
If you want to send me an email, if you have any questions, anything that you want me to
cover, if it's a quick question, that's cool.
I can put it into an episode.
If it's, you know, with other questions that come in, if it's a question that needs to
dive in and have a full episode, I'll dedicate a full episode to it because I'm just out
here to try to help you guys and give you my perspective on stuff I've learned and the
way I see the world as well.
So I really appreciate it.
