motivation throughout your week. So we're going to talk about how you do one thing is how you do
everything and why it's important to always do just a little bit extra than you're expected to
do or than you actually want to do. And this actually occurred to me a couple days ago. I was
at the gym and I was on the treadmill and I realized
this is something that I practice and started to practice and I knew that this would be really good
to share with you guys. And I was on the treadmill. I was doing a warm-up before I started my actual
workout and I was going to go for 10 minutes on the treadmill and instead of going for 10 minutes,
I went for 10 minutes and 30 seconds. Now that's
just a little bit extra, but what I used to do and I noticed that I was doing this is I would get to
nine minutes and 50 seconds and I would stop because I'd be like, well, I'm basically there.
I'm basically at my goal of 10 minutes. But see what happened was I realized that how I do one
thing is how I do everything. So if I was being short on my warmup in my workout,
even if it's just by 10 seconds, then I was also shortening somewhere else in life. And I don't
want to shorten anywhere in life. You always want to make sure that you're doing just a little bit
extra, especially on the little things, not just the important things. And you might say, oh,
you know, it's just 10 seconds. It's not really that big of a deal.
But I know that if I'm making sure that I'm going above and beyond on the little tiny things in life, then when those very important things come up in life, I will go above and
beyond on those big things.
Because if you're shortening yourself at the gym, you're going to be shortening yourself
somewhere else as well.
Like for instance, one thing that I've been working on and trying to get better at, because I'm not very good at it, is whenever I get done with a dish, trying to
clean it and put it in the dishwasher as soon as I'm done. Or another example was something that
happened today was it was really cold this morning and then it got hot. So I was wearing a long
sleeve shirt. And when I took off my long sleeve shirt, I was about to hang it up and it was inside
out because it was, you know, it's harder to take off a long sleeve shirt. But instead of doing that, I told myself, well,
I'm going to need to do this anyways. Why don't I just turn it inside out now? And it's such a
small thing. But if I'm doing those little tiny things, then obviously I'm going to be doing a
little bit extra on the big things as well. Something like I'm going to be sending out
handwritten thank you letters today to a few people that need it. That actually, they deserve to get a thank you letter from me. And not just a thank you email,
but an actual handwritten letter. It's above and beyond because most people don't do those
types of things anymore. And another thing is remembering people's names. A lot of people say,
oh, I'm so bad at remembering people's names. And that's,
honestly, it's a cop-out. You're not bad at remembering people's names. You're just not
listening enough or don't care enough to remember people's names. So when you meet somebody, even if
it's two or three people at a time, say their name over and over a few times, five to 10 times in
your head to try to remember it. Because people are impressed when you go above and beyond and
try to remember every person's name. When you read an article that you like, send it over to a friend, email
it to them and tell them why you thought of them and how you think it could benefit them.
When you're mowing the lawn, this is something that I do. I have a shared space where just part
of my lawn goes over into my neighbor's area. And instead of stopping on my half, I just go over and just
read his, excuse me, I go over and actually mow his as well. And it's just a little bit extra
to make sure that I'm doing these little things. So when the big things come up,
I'm doing the big things and going above and beyond in the big things.
If you network, figure out if you know someone that you could help that person that you just
met.
Do you know someone in your network you can connect them with and possibly they could
connect that would help them out?
And do you ask those people or have you asked your friends lately, you know, what are you
working on and find out what they're working on and what's important to them right now,
especially with New Year's coming up.
And when you find out what's important to them, ask them, how can I help you?
How can I help you? How can I
help you with whatever you're working on right now? And going above and beyond and trying to
help them out in your relationships, your friendships. And while you're doing this,
expect nothing for going the extra mile. But I will tell you, if you expect nothing
and you do these things, you will start to get a lot more from everyone else around you.
And you will start to have this paid dividends in your life. And the little bit of every single thing that you do,
it adds up along the way. If you're running a race and you're getting to the very end of the race,
you don't give up right before the finish line. We've seen people, we've all seen the horror
videos and the funny videos of people who celebrate right before the finish line.
And then the person that's trying to catch up with them ends up passing them at the very last second.
So if you're going to run a race, if you're going to go for a goal, if you're going to work for
something, you have to run through the finish line. Don't slow down. Don't stop right before.
How you do one thing is how you do everything. Because if you're training yourself to exceed
at everything, even the little tiny things
that you do, and then when you get to the most important things and you're building these habits
and you're building these habits and you're building these habits, then you're going to excel
at the bigger things as well. It's not one big thing or two big things that does something to
make someone successful. What it is, is the little things. It's a lot of
the little extra steps, the little things that they did to make them more successful.
If your boss gives you an assignment, ask yourself, what can I do to actually stand out?
What can I do that's a little bit more? Because I guarantee you, if you do those little things
multiple times and stand out and go a little bit above and beyond for your boss, it's going to make
an impression. And when they're deciding who to promote next, you could be at the top of the list because of
just those little extra things that you do. If you're in sales and your customer or your
prospect asks for something, do it for them and then do a little bit more. And if you continually
keep doing this with everybody, your customers that you have are probably going to stay longer,
which will in turn make you more money and make you more successful. And if you work with those
prospects a little bit more, those prospects will probably want to work with you and eventually buy
from you. Another example is to just give more. Most people say, you know, once I get rich,
once I make my first million dollars, then I'll be able to donate, you know, X amount of dollars.
Once I make a million dollars, I'll donate 10%, which is $ amount of dollars. Once I make a million dollars,
I'll donate 10%, which is $100,000. Well, I'm going to tell you this, that if you won't give
$1 out of the $10 in your pocket right now, which is 10%, you won't give $100,000 of your million,
which is 10%. So you can start small with your giving as well. One thing that I've said in other
episodes that you guys have heard is I keep bottled water in packages of crackers and peanut So you can start small with your giving as well. One thing that I've said in other episodes
that you guys have heard is I keep bottle water
in packages of crackers and peanut butter in my car
just to give out to people who are on the side of the road
whenever they're asking for money or asking for food
or asking for assistance.
Because I don't necessarily want to give them money
because I don't know if they're going to spend it on alcohol,
but I do know everybody needs food
and everybody needs water.
So I keep those things in my car.
It's just a little extra that you could do.
So what I want to do is help you ingrain into your brain that it's the little things in life. It's those little things going a little bit further and not giving
up right before the finish line that help you be successful. And I want to leave you with this.
Go a little further than you normally do today, normally than you're expected to do. Just do a
little bit extra. Ask yourself, what can I do today to go above and beyond to add value to everyone else around me,
to add value to the support I'm working on, to help my friends or people that I'm networking
with? Whatever it is, what can you do today to go a little bit above and beyond and try to make
it a habit to go just a little bit further than you were wanting to go. You know, if you want to spend
10 minutes on the treadmill, go for 10 minutes and 30 seconds. Just start developing that habit,
that muscle of doing just a little bit more. So that's the thing I'm going to leave you with.
And the second thing I'm going to leave you with, as always, make it your mission today
to make somebody else's day better. I really appreciate you. I hope that you share this
with friends and I hope that you have an absolutely amazing day. because it's our mission to help as many people as we can. And to keep in touch, you can follow us on Instagram and Facebook.
