Before we dive into today's episode, if you would like a free copy of our motivational ebook called Hack Your Goals, the Step-by-Step Guide to Achieving Success, go to mwfmotivation.com and download it.
It's already been downloaded over a thousand times, so go ahead and get your copy now.
All right, I'll get you the podcast right now.
Welcome to the MWF Motivation Podcast, which I am proud to say has been rated the number one podcast in iTunes new and noteworthy in six different categories, including self-help
and business, and is the podcast designed to help you grow into the best version of
yourself in 10 to 20 minutes.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we'll take a life topic, break it down, discuss it,
and leave you with thoughts to impact your life and mind. My name is Rob Dial, and the podcast
starts now. Welcome to the MWF Motivation Podcast. I am Rob Dial, which you probably already know.
Motivation Podcast. I am Rob Dial, which you probably already know. But today we're going to do part two of Ask Rob. I got a bunch of emails from you guys. This is awesome to do. Before we
do that, I want to tell you guys something that I think is really cool. I wanted to start a hashtag
for our group to show in our community what we're doing to help other people. Because as you know,
at the end of each episode,
I say, make it your mission to make somebody else's day better.
And I was tagged on Instagram.
And I'm not sure if she wants me to say her name,
so I'm not going to, but I was tagged on Instagram.
And it says, thank you, MWF Motivation.
Make it your mission to make somebody else's day better.
We bought dinner for this entire table of ladies.
Look at the look on their faces when they were informed that an anonymous gift of the anonymous
gift was priceless. Hashtag pay it forward. Hashtag blessed. Hashtag grateful. And it's like
15 to 16 elderly ladies, most of them white hair, smiling at each other because they got to see that
somebody anonymously paid for their bill. And I thought it was awesome because somebody thought it would be a good thing to do to make
it their mission to make somebody else's day better. And since the holidays are coming up,
I wanted to start a hashtag. And so our hashtag is going to be hashtag MWF mission. So once again,
hashtag MWF mission. Anything that you do that's good. There's a few things that my girlfriend and
I have done over the past couple of days and we've taken pictures and we're going to be putting them
up on Instagram for you guys to see all of that. So put it up wherever you can. Anytime you do
anything good to make it your mission, make somebody else's day better. I'm excited to start
the hashtag MWF mission. So if you want to get me a gift for Christmas or the holidays, all that
would be is to get something for somebody else, make somebody else's day better, and take a picture of it and just hashtag it on Instagram, hashtag MWF Mission.
And if you want to send me an email with any questions coming up for any more of these episodes, it's rob at mwfmotivation.com.
And the Instagram, if you want to follow us to see all of the other pictures, would be at MWFmotivation.com. And the Instagram, if you want to follow us to see all of the other pictures
would be at mwfmotivation. But let's go ahead and dive in. I got a lot of questions from you guys
on different things that you wanted to know and some questions for me. So the first one that I got
says, what are your goals? Are you achieving them? Maybe that is too personal to ask. Are you looking to be
a motivational speaker or become a full-time musician? Just wondering what your driving
force is. I listen to all of your podcasts and I love to know what you want and to see what you're
looking to make progress in. My goals. I have a lot of goals. If you guys listened to a couple
weeks ago, I think it was actually last week was the New Year's resolution to get a jumpstart on New Year's resolutions.
I have a lot of goals that I've put down on paper and that I want.
It says, do I want to be a motivational speaker or full-time musician?
I think I can be both.
Originally, I had this internal battle of what do I want?
Do I want to run this podcast or do I want to be a musician?
And I think that the funny thing about life now
is the way that social media is, the way everything works and the way the podcast works as well is I
can do all of these things. I don't have to be one thing. I don't have to be a musician.
I don't have to be just a podcaster. I own another business on the side, which is fitness products,
which I will be telling you guys about in a few weeks when we actually launch a
product because we're going to be giving just this massive discount where you can get the product for
a dollar as long as you give us a review. So I'll tell you guys about that and the fitness company
that I just started because I ended up leaving the company that I was at in order to pursue
my passions for 2016 and do everything on my own and not be an employee anymore,
which you actually, if you listen to the next podcast coming out, which should be this Friday,
I'll go a little bit more in depth and tell you exactly what that was and what it is that we are
putting out. The next one says, can I include you as one of my top five positive people in my life
if I listen to your podcast every morning on my way to work, and yes, I repeat them. That is awesome. Thank you for listening to them.
You can include me as one of your top five positive people, but I would not include me
in your top five. Your top five are people that you spend the most time with physically or talk
to the most. I can understand that you listen to my podcast and stuff, but it's hard for me to have
an actual influence in your life by pushing you to do certain things because we're not having
conversations. So I could say you could put me in your top five most positive people in your life,
like you said, but I would not put me in your top five of someone that you spend the most time with.
of someone that you spend the most time with? So that's a good question and good to clarify that.
The next question says, I listen to your episodes and podcasts every week. They get me through the ups and downs of becoming a young entrepreneur. I'm in sales and marketing and recently got
promoted to ownership. So I basically run an office now. Just recently, sales for me haven't
been great and a rep who works with me hasn't been performing
the best either.
I am in stores leading, but not getting the results that I want.
It is like I can't close anymore.
I just checked my attitude.
I feel that it's in check.
I'm enthusiastic.
I just don't know if it's all about the law of attraction or the law of averages, but
geez, I'm doing that as well.
I figured I'd reach out to you for maybe some advice on this.
Yeah, I don't know.
I think that you need to kind of do a check and go back to square one.
Anybody, whether in sales or whether you're not in sales, I think that it's very important
to, if things aren't going well, to take less time working on the business, or excuse me,
less time working in the business and work on the business and on
yourself. So one thing, I was just on another podcast and they asked me some of the tips for
salespeople. One of the tips I said for salespeople that I think is the biggest thing is that when
your bank account starts going low or when you want something really bad, it's very easy for you
to try to push somebody or influence somebody to buy something that's more expensive
because you make more. What I said is make sure that you do two things. Number one, you try to
make a friend before you make a sale. And number two is to make sure that you're working the
customer's best interest. Don't try to sell them something they don't need. If they don't need it,
let them go and go for someone who does need it. And so what I would say is to make sure that
whatever you're selling, don't worry about your bank account. Don't worry about all of those things.
Worry about whoever's in front of you, that customer, finding exactly what they want. Ask
them more questions. Ask them more questions. Ask them more questions. Find out exactly what they
want. And the reason why I say as a friend, because you make a friend before you make a sale,
is if you ask enough questions and
that person sees you as someone that's looking out in their best interest, they will buy because
you 100% believe that that is the product that they need. So that's the biggest thing that I
could give you for that one. Another question says, these are actually issues, I guess. So it
says, issue number one, I don't know how to prioritize my goals, whether personal or career ones. And I often find myself stuck in my own head,
and I don't know how to move forward. Fear is a biatch, and I struggle with it. Fear of failure
or not advancing, or the fear of actually accomplishing my goals and forcing the worst
to follow. Not sure why my mind goes there, but it does. I think everybody's mind goes there. Mine goes there all the time. I am on a new venture of
this business that I'm starting. And I completely understand because my fear of failure still pops
up. But when the fear of failure pops up or you start worrying about something, you must replace
that immediately. Like I always say, you cannot control your first thought, but you can always control
your second. So with being in your own head, I completely understand. I do that as well. But
you have to realize that you always have to replace that. If the fear of failure pops up,
then replace that immediately with how happy you're going to feel when you do accomplish your
goals. And as for your goals where it says, I don't know how to prioritize my goals, whether personal or career ones, I don't think that you
need to prioritize between personal and career. With everything, you should have career goals,
you should have personal goals, you should have all of these. But I think more than anything else,
for 2016, what you should focus on is your mission statement for the year. What is your
mission statement and how do each of
your goals tie into that mission statement? So sit down and say, 2016, what do I want 2016 to be?
What is my mission statement for this year? And then take each of your goals and see how those
goals tie into your mission statement for the year because they can all work together. They
don't necessarily have to be prioritized. I would prioritize them and say, this is number one and this is number two and figure those out. I don't
know if there's really a tip on how to prioritize, but I would say, try to figure out at least your
number one goal. And that would probably be more than anything else, your mission statement, or
that will tie along with your mission statement as well. Issue number two, I want to start a career
in fashion, but don't want to go back to the nine and five jobs right now.
So I'm on pause.
I haven't applied for as many jobs as I should either
because I don't think I have a chance
of competing with other online applicants.
Well, number one, that is the first problem
is you don't think that you have a chance of competing
because you're already taking yourself out of the game
without even trying. Wayne Gretzky always said, you miss 100% of shots you don't take, so you might as well take
some shots. However, I'm actively trying to connect with people in the industry. I don't know if this
is important, but I'm unemployed now, but doing okay now due to short assignments here and there.
I would say, find out exactly what you want to do and try to find the people
who own those companies, connect with them on LinkedIn, connect with them any way that you
possibly can and say, hey, listen, I'm trying to get in this industry. Is there any possible way
I could take you out for coffee? And if you send it to 10 of them, you might have one or two answer
back with yes. You might have one answer back with yes, but you could build a relationship with that
person in that industry, whatever it is that you want to do. And you build a relationship with them and whether they give you
a job or not, they may or may not, they could have some really good connections. It's easier to find
a job when you know somebody than it is just to apply for jobs. I will tell you that coming from
a recruiting background. I was in a recruiting company for a couple years, and I do know that for sure.
Next thing says, this is the one that makes me feel less grounded.
It's my desire for acting and singing.
This feeling has always been there.
When I daydream, I often envision myself performing.
Despite attending an art school in high school, my voice still requires a lot of training,
so I'm not sure how realistic it is.
I think it's very realistic. And it says, you know, I'm not five anymore. I'm a young adult and graduated, and I'm still trying to figure out my life goals. And I know that's terrifying.
I'll tell you this, as you get older, most of the time, most people don't really figure out
their life goals. So it's good that you're trying to figure it out now. As for training for your
voice, take vocal lessons. If it's something that you can't stop thinking about, as the phrase says, if you can't stop thinking about it, don't stop working
for it. So if this is really what's pulling you and you say, Hey, I want to be an actor,
or I want to be a singer or actress or person who sings, you know, whatever it is,
if that's what you're dreaming about, if that's where your heart's pulling you,
I had this conversation with my neighbor, actually, actually about a couple hours ago.
And we were saying, always trust your gut, no matter where your gut tells you to go, if you trust it, it's almost always right. So if you can't stop thinking
about it, your gut's saying, hey, I need to go in this direction. Try it out. Take some improv
classes if you want to be in acting. Take some vocal lessons if you want to do singing. Go to
some open mics. Put yourself out there and overcome that fear. Because I've done some open mics and I've gotten in front of people when I didn't want to
get in front of people and didn't trust my voice or didn't trust my, you know, guitar playing,
whatever it might've been. It's scary. I completely understand, but you got to take that first step
or else you're never going to take a step and you're going to stay exactly where you are.
And the last one comes from Dakota who actually goes as, this is something cool,
La Gringa. And she is in the video she sent me, she sent me a video message. She is the self-proclaimed number one fan of MWF Motivation, which is awesome. She said she has listened to every episode.
says she is a white girl, but all of her songs are in Spanish. She listens to the podcast and got over her fear of putting it out there into the world and actually started putting her first
few videos onto YouTube, which she said was so, so, so, so, so hard, which I understand because
I have done that as well. It is hard to put the first one up there and to overcome that fear.
Her question is this. She says she wants to be the next big thing in Latin music industry,
but no idea of how to do it because she says she doesn't know anybody else. It's hard for her to
find someone who has accomplished exactly what it is that she's wanting to accomplish. She doesn't
know any other white girls who have accomplished, you know, going into the Latin music industry
and wants an outsider's perspective. So if you want to look her up on YouTube,
her name is Dakota and her screen name on YouTube is La Gringa. And I think that here's the thing
that you need to realize. I don't think it matters if you're white, if you're black,
if you're yellow, if you're purple, anything like that. If you're good, you're good. And that's it.
That's all that matters. When you listen to music, the good thing about music is you can't
see the person's face. So if you're a good Latin music singer, then you're a good Latin music singer. And I think
that you'll get more respect. Some people will think, oh, because I'm white singing Spanish
songs, I won't get the respect and people will think down on me. You actually might get more
respect for that, which is the crazy thing about it. Most people see their flaws as a problem, but
the quote unquote, if you want to say being white is a flaw in the Latin music industry could actually
be your strength. That happens a lot where your strength, your biggest weakness could actually be
your biggest strength. And, uh, and as far as that goes, finding someone who's accomplished it,
I don't think you need to find someone who is white, who's gotten to the Latin music industry.
You just need to surround yourself with other musicians who are accomplished or semi-accomplished, people that will push you to get better. And
that's all you want to do is just find people who are a little bit better than you. They don't have
to sing Spanish or whatever it is. And this can be for any of you listening out there, even if
you're not in music. Find someone who's a little bit better than you at what you do. Surround
yourself with those people. It will push you to get to their level. And once you get to their level, you find more people who are even better than that. You
just keep getting better and better and better. That's the main thing I would say for it. If
you're trying to surround yourself with people who have accomplished something you want to accomplish,
find them, surround yourself with them. I don't think it matters if it's Latin music, if it's
English music, whatever it is. If it's music, it's music.
And that's the great thing about it. And if you guys want to look her up, you should. She has
some really good stuff, La Gringa on YouTube. And I think that that's really cool. I was actually
thinking the other day that Pitbull is quite lucky because he's able to go to the English
population, people who speak English, but also the Latin population, people who speak Spanish. So he's kind of double dipping and that's an easy way to be very
successful. If you get a few people on each side, that's twice the amount of people that you have to
choose from that can like your music. So I would say just find some people, no matter what industry
that you're in or want to be in, surround yourself with people that are better than you at whatever
it is and add as much value to them as you can so they want to keep you around and that will push you to get better as well.
And if you want an example of something that I do, something that I am doing to try to get in
front of someone that's influential in my area, I actually drew, painted a painting for somebody
who I want to develop a relationship with who is really, really big and really influential and is
very successful in the motivational and self-help field. And so I wrote and actually, excuse me,
painted a painting for this person with deals directly. It would only make sense to them of
why this painting makes sense. And I'm just going to give them this painting and say, hey, listen,
I love your stuff. I want to develop a relationship with you because I think that we do really good
things and we help a lot of people. And I just want to surround myself with people
that are on the same level as you. So that's just an example of the type of stuff that I would do
to try to surround myself with those people. So that is it for today's episode. If you want to
send me some questions, rob at mwfmotivation is my email. I've been getting a lot of them. It's awesome. Rob at MWF motivation.com.
And once again, don't forget,
make it your mission to make somebody else's day better.
