And if you love this episode, which I hope that you will, because we're going to be talking about morning rituals, I just ask that you please share it with a friend. And why would I talk about morning rituals? The reason why is because I've had a lot of episodes, I understand through 60 something episodes that I've spoken quickly about morning rituals, kind of teased about morning rituals. And I've gotten some emails recently of people asking more about morning rituals, what my morning rituals are. And so I figured it'd probably be pretty good to share with you guys a little bit
Starting point is 00:01:40 more in depth of what morning rituals are. And I'll tell you this, I hate waking up early. I hate waking up. Let me tell you that. I love sleeping. I can sleep as long as possible, but I've actually kind of trained myself and learned that I love to wake up early. And there's a lot of very successful people that say that they like to wake up early. I'll give you a couple of examples of people that I was able to look on the internet find out who does Morning rituals who wakes up early jack dorsey Who founded twitter and also square wakes up at 5 30 in the morning to meditate and go for a run Richard branson who's worth 4.8 billion dollars the quote the founder of virgin
Starting point is 00:02:19 Uh group leaves his blinds open So he wakes up around the sun at the same time the sun comes up, which is around five 45 on his private Island. He eats breakfast. Then he goes to work out Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple, uh, worth about 785 million wakes up at 4 30 AM to be at the gym by 5 AM. Howard Schultz, the guy who was the founder and CEO of Starbucks wakes up at 4.30 a.m. to walk his dogs and work out. He's worth $2.5 billion. Steve Jobs, before he passed away, he said the latest he would wake up was 6 a.m. every single morning to go work out and then go to the office. And at the time of his death, he was worth $11 billion. So what am I trying to say? I'm trying to say that there's a lot
Starting point is 00:03:00 of proof from successful people that waking up early will help you become more successful. And I was reading an article. It was actually written by Richard Branson. And if you don't follow MWF Motivation Podcast on Facebook, you should because I just shared this article so you can read it if you like to. And in it, he says some stuff that I really want to share with you. It's about waking up early and how he loves to wake up early. And one thing that he says that really hit home is he says, life is not a dress rehearsal.
Starting point is 00:03:32 So we should live every single day to its full capacity. I think it goes without saying that the days that we stretched out are the most memorable and more memorable than the ones when we got a really good night's sleep. And as badly as some of us want to stay in bed for as long as possible, it's actually a waste of our living time. And the perfect example is if you knew that you were about to die, if you knew you only had a few months left or a few weeks left, you would be awake to experience everything that you possibly could cram into every single day that you have left. So waking up early isn't about just working. It's about enjoying life however you
Starting point is 00:04:11 choose to live it. And as far as morning rituals go, for me, I found that it's easier to have a structure to it. Everyone will have different morning rituals. It's all up to you. What will get you excited to wake up in the morning and actually wake up early to go do? And I've tried very unstructured morning rituals where it's great. I did it this past year where I would get up and I'd have specific things that I would want to get done, but I didn't have a very structured one until this year, which is actually I have every single 10 minutes of the first two hours that I'm awake are structured exactly what I'm going to be doing. And it's different depending on if I'm going to the gym in that morning or if it's a non-gym day. And I've read a lot about
Starting point is 00:04:58 morning rituals. And in this episode, I just want to share with you what I've done as far as morning rituals and what some of the most successful people do with their mornings before leaving for the office. So you can pick what works best for you. So I'm literally going to give you the rundown of exactly the checklist that I've made to make sure that I don't forget anything the first two hours that I'm awake. So my morning checklist looks like this. I wake up and I'm not kidding when I tell you I have every single thing on here. So I actually wrote it down as my solid morning routine. The first thing that I do, brush my teeth. The second thing that I do is drink lemon water. So that's an actual glass of water with an entire lemon squeezed in it because it's much more hydrating. And after eight hours
Starting point is 00:05:40 of sleep, your body really needs to be hydrated first, especially before coffee. Then after the lemon water, I take a shower. And usually the last 30 to 45 seconds of the shower, I try to do extremely cold just to wake my body up even more. It's a shock to it. Then I have my coffee and is actually have it right here. 15 minutes. I plan to be outside on my back porch just to hang out and quiet. Then after that, I have oatmeal. After that, I meditate. After that, I read 10 pages at least of a book. After that, I write for 30 minutes. And writing can be anything.
Starting point is 00:06:15 Writing for me could be I just want to write in journal. Writing could also be that, you know, after reading, I might have read something like poetry or something like that that inspired me. Then I would be able to write something that really, um, that I wanted to write, whether it be poetry or lyrics or whatever it was, or, you know, there's also something that I have called the, uh, the five minute journal, which is basically ask you what you're, you're grateful for every single day. So you can start your day off with gratitude. Then I do my vocal warmups because as you know, I am a musician, I'm working on my vocals. So I do my vocal warmups because as you know, I am a musician,
Starting point is 00:06:45 I'm working on my vocals. So I do my vocal warmups every single morning that takes about 25 minutes or so. And then what I do is I plan my schedule for the day of exactly what needs to be done, how I'm going to do it down to every 15 to 30 minutes of exactly what my day is going to look like. And I write down my top two to three things that have to be done every single day and to make sure that I get the most out of every single day that I have. Now, on the days that I work out, I have everything already there. So there's no thinking needed. So I can wake up in the morning and the first thing that I do, I brush my teeth, drink the lemon water, take a shower. And then what I actually don't take a shower in the mornings
Starting point is 00:07:23 that I get to work out before I do after. But I have everything out. My clothes are all out, my gym bags out, everything that I need. So I can just literally pick up my stuff, go straight out the door and not have to do any thinking. So this is what my morning ritual looks like. I know that it's going to be different for everybody, but one thing that you'll notice, it's very common. There's a few things. There's usually some quiet time with yourself, whether that be just sitting, drinking your cup of coffee on your back porch like I do, or it could be also meditating. I know a lot of people that meditate. As you can see in mine, I do have meditation there as well. Even if it's just five minutes, 10 minutes, I would recommend 10 to 15 minutes at least. If you could do 10 to 15 minutes, that would be perfect every single morning.
Starting point is 00:08:06 So quiet time with yourself, meditating, reading is really good to start your day off in the morning. And then writing is really good as well. So those things and then planning your schedule are the things that I would recommend. Whatever I said where you're like, yeah, I need to start doing that more. I would take that and start doing that every single morning.
Starting point is 00:08:24 The key to it is this, whatever your morning ritual is, have a morning ritual. I've done it before where I've woken up and been in a rush and I've lived my life for years where it's just, I wake up, you know, 15 minutes before I need to leave. I take a shower, brush my teeth. I take my food and coffee on the road. And then I go to my, my day jobs that I used to have when I used to work for somebody. And those were never satisfying. Those were always mornings that were not, they were started off on somebody else's terms. The key to a morning ritual is to start the day off on your terms and to not wake up 15 minutes before you have to leave your house because you actually
Starting point is 00:09:00 should be taking some you time and some time for you to enjoy. Because we all know you get to the office, you get busy, you get tired. And by the time you get home, you don't want to work out. You don't want to do anything. You don't want to take any me time and you just want to sit and drink some beer and watch TV and go to bed. And that's not going to give you a productive day every single day. So the key is before you go off and work for somebody else or work in the office, whether you work for yourself or somebody else, the key is before you go off and work for somebody else or work in the office, whether you work for yourself or somebody else, the key is to get some you time, some time to specifically work on yourself and make sure that you're growing every single day. And you do that with meditation, with reading a little bit, with writing a little bit, with planning your
Starting point is 00:09:39 schedule. And so the time that you leave to go to the office, whatever it is that you do, you've already had a productive day before you even leave the house. So that's the key. Whatever it is that you want to do for morning rituals, I would just recommend to have a morning ritual and have a little checklist of things that you want to make sure that you don't forget every single morning. With that, I will leave you the same way that I leave you every single episode.
