What we're going to be talking about today is once again, New Year's resolutions. But now that it is the first week of February, things have changed. We've gone through 31 days and I want to go back and look at our resolutions together and say, hey, where have we done really well? Where can we do better to make sure that the goals that we wrote down, we actually achieve? And before I dive into that, I do want to give you
Starting point is 00:01:37 some exciting news. Part of my resolution was to try to help more people with my coaching. And I don't talk about coaching much because of the fact that I don't really have a whole lot of extra time to coach individuals, but I do coach some people. And I did open up two more slots for coaching clients for anybody who wants to kind of have the podcast on steroids and actually get personal time with me once a week. So if that's something that you're interested in, you can send me an email and I will send you the information on it. You can email me rob at mwfmotivation.com and I will give you some more information on the actual becoming a coaching
Starting point is 00:02:18 client with me. So we're one month in to our New Year's resolutions and I want to ask you, how are your New Year's resolutions going at this point? And it's very important for us to revisit them weekly and monthly as well. Because now that we're one month in, we want to make sure that we are making progress towards every single resolution that we put down. And I said this a couple episodes ago. And if your dreams are being killed, you're probably the one that's killing them.
Starting point is 00:02:47 And the reason why is because you're letting them slip away by not holding yourself accountable to hitting your goals and to getting towards your dreams. So remember, you wrote your goals down for a reason. You made your resolution for a reason. Do not give up on them. If anything, I'm going to try to be here to support you as much as I possibly can to go over my goals, tell you about what I want to do to hopefully inspire you to do the same as well. So a couple of things that I want to make sure
Starting point is 00:03:16 before diving into the goals. Have you written your goals down? If you haven't written your goals down, I don't know what you're doing because I know that I've expressed many, many times that we have to write our goals down as much as we possibly can in order to see them, in order to make them visible. And that's the next question. Are your goals visible? Because what is not seen is often forgotten. Did you put all of your goals on a piece of paper and then put that piece of paper on the mirror? Or have you taken a dry erase marker? I have a dry erase marker right in front of me from writing my goals down, excuse me, and making sure that I see them wherever I go. So if you have a mirror in your, well, I'm pretty sure you probably do have a mirror in your bathroom, you know, maybe you
Starting point is 00:04:01 should get a dry erase marker and write them down put them on your your mirror so you see it every time you go to the bathroom have you made a vision board yet of what you want pictures of stuff because we all know that if we don't see our goals often we're going to forget about our goals much easier so today i just rewrote my goals in order to lock them into my brain once again and then tape them up onto my mirror. So have you found your why behind every single goal as well? Because if you're not reaching your goals at this current moment, and this past month, you really wanted to do well, and maybe you didn't do as well as you wanted. Well, don't beat yourself up. Maybe you haven't
Starting point is 00:04:39 found your strong why behind each goal. And what I mean by that, you probably do know what I mean, if you've listened to other episodes, your why is the reason why you want to achieve that goal. You know, why you want to fit in that bikini, why you want to look like that before summer comes, why you want to save a certain amount of money. What is the real reason why that's going to make you go, you know what, my excuses are not worth it. I really want to go towards my goal. It's going to make you go towards your goal every single time you look at it and every time you think of your why. And are you reviewing your goals every single week? I will admit this to you. I'm doing well with my goals, but I will admit I have been lacking with going over my goals with my girlfriend,
Starting point is 00:05:18 which was one of my immediate things I wanted to do is to make sure she goes over her goals with me every week on Sunday and I go over my goals with her every week on Sunday. So I practice what I preach and this has not been going as well as I want. So that is a big change that I'm going to make is to make sure that I go over my goals every single Sunday with her and she goes over hers to make sure that we're holding each other accountable and to make sure that we're fostering our relationship to grow together and to make it even stronger as well. So for New Year's resolutions, if you have not yet listened to the first six episodes of this podcast and downloaded the ebook, go ahead and do it because I originally wrote that ebook
Starting point is 00:05:57 for New Year's resolutions alone. And the first six episodes go perfectly along with it. So with that, let's go over the six sections real quick. And I want you to think about your goals with these sections and how they have been going the past month. If you need to pause at any point in time and write something down, I would recommend you do it. Just make sure you don't write anything down as you're driving. Make sure you do that whenever you get home or wherever your destination is.
Starting point is 00:06:22 So section one of your goals is relationships. How have your relationships been going the past month? What have you done to make your relationship stronger this past month? Whether it be with a significant other, or maybe you wanted to network more, or maybe you wanted to build a new top five of the people that you need to spend the most time with. Your current relationships with friends, with family members? Have you been spending more time with them? I sent my sister a text message today because my oldest nephew, who is now 12, just started learning guitar. And I've been playing guitar for about 15 years now. And I want to support him in that. And I haven't supported him as much as I could, I realized. So I sent a text message and said, hey, can I get a Skype call with Matthew to try to help him get better at learning the guitar?
Starting point is 00:07:10 Because at this point, they have four kids. They don't have enough money to take him to lessons and to do all of that. So I want to be the person that can help him get lessons because I know how to play and I want to have Skype lessons with him. So that's just a relationship that I realized was somewhere where I could be stronger in that relationship with my nephew and to help him learn guitar because I started playing at 15. He's 12 now. That's an extra three years he can get on and to actually get better at guitar. So that's one foster, one relationship I want to foster and actually get better at. So that's section one. How are the relationships going the past month? Have they been the same or have they been getting better? Because here's the thing.
Starting point is 00:07:49 In reality, relationships are either green and growing or brown and dying. And what I mean by that, they're either getting better, they're either growing your relationship with your significant other or people around you, or they're brown and dying. They're never neutral. I'm gonna tell you that.
Starting point is 00:08:04 They're never neutral. They are brown and dying. And then sometimes we just numb up the fact that we realize it's not going as good as it should, or it's not growing. A relationship should constantly grow. So that's section one. Section two is personal growth. How many podcasts have you been listening to? I understand I have a podcast and you're listening to it right now, but there's other ones you can listen to as well. As long as you just don't stop listening to me, of course, but personal growth. So your podcast, how many books did you read this past month? What was your goal of how many podcasts you want to listen to? How many books you want to read? How many audio books that you wanted to listen to? Once again, if you want to listen to audio books, you can go to mwfbook.com and then you can actually
Starting point is 00:08:45 get a free audiobook and a free 30-day trial from audible.com. But mwfbook.com will help you out with that. So personal growth. How many conferences did you want to go to this past month? Or how many meetups did you want to go to in this past month? How has your personal growth gone this past month? Rate yourself. I would say this. Rate yourself 1 to 10 on what you wanted your month to be versus what your month actually was for section 1 through 6. And I'm going to add a section 7, which is exciting as well, which I haven't told you about.
Starting point is 00:09:17 Section 3 is your spirituality. If you wanted to go to church more, if you're that type of person, have you been going to church more? If you're not religious, maybe you're spiritual and you just wanted to meditate more? If you're that type of person, have you been going to church more? If you're not religious, maybe you're spiritual and you just wanted to meditate more. How did your meditating go this past month? Did you finally get into it? Have you been reading about inner peace? Or there's a book I just read called Awaken the Buddha Within. So there's stuff like that where your spirituality, even if you're not a religious person, you can still work on your spirituality and work on your inner peace more than anything else. So how did that go this past month?
Starting point is 00:09:51 Number four is your finances. How did your finances go this past month? Did you save as much money as you wanted to? Or did you start saving money? If you didn't hit your goal, but it was the first year that, excuse me, the first month that you've actually saved money, hey, you're going in the right direction. Keep the momentum going as much as you possibly can. Your finances, how do they look today? If you wanted to save, I think the number that I gave as an example a couple episodes ago,
Starting point is 00:10:19 if you wanted to save $6,000 this year, that's $500 a month. Well, did you save your $500 for the month of January? If you did, awesome. If you save more, even better. Make sure that you still go for $500 every single month at least. If say you only got to $400 this month, well, then you now have to make sure in February that you tighten up a little bit more and save an extra $100, which would be $600 in this month. So make sure that you're going over your finances every single week and every single month i had a conversation with one of my friends the other day and he's like can you teach me how to save money i've just never actually taken the time to do it and i said the reason why is because most people don't sit down and actually go over
Starting point is 00:10:58 their finances because they're scared as hell to look at their bank account and i've been there i understand it. But no changes are going to be made unless you actually sit down and go over the budget and go over your finances and try to make improvements to it. So if you're in that boat, I understand looking at your bank account can be scary as hell sometimes. But you need to overcome that because it will always be scary unless you overcome it and think about, hey, it actually might start being positive experience for me to check my bank account every single day because you might have more and more money that you're saving into it. So that's number four is finances. What have you been doing to make sure that your finances have been better? Section number five is your career
Starting point is 00:11:39 and business goals. What were your career and business goals for this past month? And where are they at this current moment? How can you improve and how can you make sure that you get them better? So career and business goals. How many connections did you make this past month that are going to be pivotal in making sure that your career and business gets better for this year? Also, if you're employed by somebody, how many actual sit-down conversations did you have with your boss? Or how many times did you stay a little bit later or go over and above to show that you're serious and that you really want to advance your career? So think about that. That's section number five. And section number six is your physical. This is usually the one that people go for the
Starting point is 00:12:17 most, the physical. They make these big goals. I'm going to go to the gym five times a week. I'm going to start eating better. I'm going to start doing all this. And they do really well for a week, two weeks, three weeks. And then it starts to teeter off. I understand I've been there. But the question is, if your physical goals were supposed to be something this year, have you taken the picture of exactly what you want to look like, the person who has the body that you want and put it up and made sure that you look at it all the time to make sure that you're constantly improving and trying to get towards it. look at it all the time to make sure that you're constantly improving and trying to get towards it.
Starting point is 00:12:50 So physical goals. Don't stop going to the gym. You will be more fit. You will be healthier. You will feel better. And that will just go completely to every single aspect of your life and make everything better. For me, I haven't done any drinking this entire month. I actually haven't. The last time I drank was on New Year's. So I completely gave up drinking for this past month and I've been working out four times a week, which is working out was four times a week was normal, but giving up drinking was not. I have been so freaking clear-minded and everything has been so, it's been,
Starting point is 00:13:15 I've needed less sleep. I've needed less coffee in the morning. Everything is, I've been so much more clear and focused because I decided to give up drinking. That could be something for you. Maybe giving up cigarettes. I have a couple people who have been emailing in and saying they've been giving up cigarettes, which is awesome. And the last one, the one I've never gone over with you, which I realized I missed out on giving you guys, which is the fun one. Your fun. What is your fun goals for this year? So we're going to make some new ones. What's your
Starting point is 00:13:43 fun goals? Your adventure, your traveling goals. Do you want to try surfing? Do you want to go skydiving? Do you want to finally rent a Ferrari and go around a track for a day or something like that? What are your fun goals for this year? And make sure that you write those down and make sure that you say, you know what, if I do save $6,000 this year, every dollar that I... If that's your goal, $6,000, just make it. Every dollar that I save over that will go towards whatever it is that you want to do. Skydiving will go towards trying out surfing, will be towards my wife and myself going on a vacation. So have some type of adventure, something that's going to get you excited. Because saving money is exciting. It's exciting to see your bank account start growing. It's
Starting point is 00:14:24 exciting to see yourself hit these goals. But having an adventure and actually having experiences, that's what's really exciting. I'm very, very, very much a firm believer that I would rather buy experiences versus buy things. The thing about our society, though, society everywhere, is that we constantly feel like we have to keep buying more by seeing advertisements and all of these things. Try to start buying experiences because those are things that you remember in 20 years. You're not going to remember the $200 you spent on some random object that you had to, it went obsolete a few years after that. So you're going to remember the times that you went on experiences and you traveled and you went skydiving and you went surfing and you did all of
Starting point is 00:15:02 those fun things. So the last section would be travel. So to wrap everything up, I'm here for you. I want you to hit your goals. I want me to hit my goals. I want us to be a community together and to actually hit our goals, which is why we have the Facebook group. If you're not part of it, just look up on Facebook MWF Motivation Podcast. There's only one space and that's between MWF Motivation and podcast. MWF Motivation is one word. You can join us on there. We're at about 11 or 1200 people, I think, that are on it right now. Somewhere around 1100. And I want to start a community where we can foster a relationship to grow together as an actual community of podcast listeners and myself. So with that, I am here to support you with your goals. Let me know
Starting point is 00:15:45 if I can help you in any way. If you want to reach out to me, Rob at MWF Motivation, if I can help you in any way. If you want to help with coaching and maybe to get one of the two coaching slots, because I do know that people are going to get quite a few emails for it.
