Welcome to the MWF Motivation Podcast.
My name is Rob Dial.
I am occasionally joined by my co-host, Dean DeVries.
And growing up, our moms always told us that we had the perfect faces for radio.
So here we are with our own podcast that comes out every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
And we compress a massive life topic into about 10 to 20 minutes
to help you take control of your life and mind, become the best version of yourself,
and follow your passion. Buckle up, because the podcast starts now.
Welcome to the MWF Motivation Podcast.
My name is Rob Dial, your host, and I'm going to go ahead and dive into episode one,
which is part of our six-chapter book, which will be the first six episodes of our podcast.
And like I said before, this is just a very shortened, very condensed version of every book and self-help book and business book I've ever read, put down into a very short one, which is a lot easier
to read between about 30 and 40 pages for you. And the first thing that we're going to go over
and the first topic for episode one is going to be successful habits. If you want to be successful,
one of the best things to do is just to study successful people. And for a while, I've been
studying successful people and noticed that there's a lot of very consistent things that
all successful people do. And what we wanted to do is give you 10 specific habits that successful people do and that
you can find in almost any successful person because it's just like anything else.
If you want to become successful, there's very easy steps and habits that need to be
created in order to get there.
In this podcast, in this episode, I'm going to cover five of them, what I feel are the
five most important.
Then inside of the book, if you want to get that in chapter one, you can get it at mwfmotivation.com,
MWF like Monday, Wednesday, Friday, motivation.com. And you can get yourself a free copy of that book
on our website. So the first out of the first five habits that I'm going to go over,
the first out of the first five habits that I'm going to go over, number one is going to be to wake up early. And the reason why a lot of successful people wake up early is because
it gives them their me time, their time to dedicate to themselves because they're usually,
once they get up and they start working, they start going out, a lot of the stuff that they do
ends up being for other people or it ends up being for their business. For those of you that work for somebody
else, most of your waking hours during the week are spent working for somebody and for somebody
else's dream. So I personally hate waking up early, but there's so much value in it, I do it.
I'm the type of person where if I don't set
an alarm, it's very easy for me to sleep for 12 to 13 hours. But I realized that in order to be
successful, because I do also have a full-time day job, is that I need to wake up early and work on
everything that I want to work on for myself before I start working and working for somebody
else. So the reason why you want to wake
up early, there's a lot of reasons, a lot of things that you can do. I'll give you an idea
of the stuff that I do when I wake up early. And I usually wake up about two hours before I need to
in order to dedicate some me time. So the first thing that I do is I always put my phone, which I use as an alarm,
in my bathroom of my room. And the reason why is because that makes me have to get up out of bed
and go to my actual phone versus just rolling over. If I left it next to me, and I did for years,
I would just roll over and knock it and turn it off and then roll over and knock and turn off. So what I do specifically is I put my phone inside of my bathroom so that I have to get up physically
and turn it off. At that point in time, I go downstairs and I always do the exact same thing
every morning. I get a giant glass of water and I squeeze at least an entire lemon into it.
And the reason why is because over eight hours of sleeping, your brain
gets very deprived of water and very dehydrated. So if you're very groggy in the morning, a lot
of the times is just because of the fact that you're dehydrated. So one of the biggest hacks
that I could tell you is to squeeze lemon into water. And at first, it doesn't taste really good. It takes about a week to get used to it.
But you start actually liking it after a while.
And water, when it has lemon in it, is three times more hydrating
than just plain water by itself.
So I always squeeze an entire lemon, at least, into a glass of water.
And then the very next thing that I do is I always make coffee and drink coffee as well.
So what I'll do is I'll make the coffee. And as the coffee is being made, I'll go and I'll do a
15 minute meditation session. So I like to do meditation and we'll talk about meditation
very in depth. And Dean and I are writing a book on meditation right now,
which should be coming out in the next few months for beginners
starting to meditate. And I'll do 15 minute meditation. And people think that meditation
needs to be like this, this very spiritual, you know, I close my eyes and all I see is darkness
and I think about nothing. But in reality, the majority of the time, it's just a very
peaceful time to sit down, have complete silence and be able to think everything that you need to
think throughout the day. And you don't want to try to control it and try to see just a black
screen. Usually my best planning sessions happen during my 15 minute meditation, which at this
point in time at 15 minutes, I'm going to bump it up pretty soon to 30 minutes. And then actually I'm going to start waking up earlier so I can do
an entire hour of meditation. But what I'll do is I'll, I'll plan out basically my whole day
in my head. And then as soon as my meditation is done, I'll write it all down exactly what needs
to be done for the day. So after that, what I do is I read for 15 to 30 minutes every single morning, and I'll
read all kinds of different things.
If you're watching on YouTube, you can see I have a ton of books that are behind me.
I'm pretty addicted to reading, so I'll read for a little while.
I'll write, which includes, you know, I do songwriting, but also sometimes I'll do journaling
or anything like that.
And depending on what day of the week it is, I will usually work out in the morning as well.
So that's my morning routine.
And the reason why, if you think about it,
a lot of people wake up early who are successful
is because it gives them that me time
where they can do all of that stuff.
And then by the time that you get to work,
you've already done way more
than everybody else that you're around.
And because of the fact that you've gotten your mind working because you meditated you got your body working because you
worked out usually you're on a whole nother level especially if you have the coffee and i just feel
100 better versus just waking up getting ready starting work all of those things so that's the
first thing that very successful people do it helps you be very proactive and have a proactive day
versus reactive. And what I mean by that is you wake up on purpose for yourself, doing things for
yourself versus waking up. You're late. You check your phone. You go to emails. You go on Facebook.
You go on Instagram. You go on Twitter. That's a very reactive way to start your day. When you
meditate, when you work out, when you read, when you write, your brain is already firing. It's a whole different level of how you feel early in the
morning. So that's the first successful thing. And as far as habits go, successful habits,
a habit usually takes 21 days to create. So if you're trying to create a new habit like
waking up early, go 21 days in a row with your alarm set at 6 a.m. or
whatever time you need to wake up. 21 days in a row and your body will start to get used to it.
Same exact thing though for breaking a habit. It usually takes about 21 days. So if you want to
stop drinking for a while, dedicate 21 days for not drinking. And by the time those 21 days are
over, your body's going to feel completely different.
So waking up early is the first successful habit that I wanted to go over.
The second thing and very, very obvious thing for successful people is they have really
unbreakable work ethic.
And like I said, I love studying successful people and what happens in their mind.
And if you listen to anybody, any interview of someone who's very successful,
they're never lazy. They're always a very successful person because they work hard at it.
They, you know, my favorite quote is hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.
And, you know, we've all seen the, the people who to, like athletes who get to the NBA or they get to
the NFL because they're very talented. And they get there, but they're kind of lazy still. They'll
work out, they'll do the bare minimum, but they're just talented. They're just kind of born with it.
And then out of nowhere, someone who's not that great and wasn't that great, or they were just
kind of under the radar, ends up being a much more successful
professional basketball or football or baseball player because they have that work ethic where
they're just like, you know what? I'm going to work my butt off as hard as I possibly can.
And a perfect example is Michael Jordan. By the time he got to the NBA, he was incredible and he
was great. But Michael Jordan didn't make his high
school basketball team. So he was cut from his high school basketball team, which means that
he was not born with the athleticism to be great. What he did have was the work ethic where he would
not leave until he made like a hundred free throws every single time that he played basketball
outside of his house. And so it shows you that he wasn't born
with it, but he was able to develop it. And everybody is able to develop. If you want to
know a great book that has to deal with incredible work ethic, one of my favorite books is called
Talent is Overrated. And it's by Jeff Colvin, I think. And it just talks about how talent is kind of almost a BS word.
And it's really just that people say, oh, they're so talented because they look like they haven't put the whole, they look like they were born with it.
But in reality, they don't see all of the work in the 10,000 hours that was put into
honing and perfecting their craft.
So the second successful habit that they have is work ethic.
So if you don't have work ethic at this point, or you want to get better work ethic, one key that I would say is to make sure that over the next 21 days, you think, how can
I go the extra mile?
How can I do just a little bit more so that I can, you know, show my boss that I'm really
serious and I want to get the next promotion?
So that's what I would say with that one.

Investing involves risk. Morgan Stanley Smith Barney LLC. Number three, one of the huge things
that I've seen with successful people and read a lot about is that successful
people work out more than unsuccessful people do. So exercise is one of the biggest things.
You know, a lot of people would say, you know, if I'm trying to be very successful though,
and I have, let's say 16 hours that I'm awake, why would I waste my energy, you know,
going and working out when I could use all that energy in my business?
But what you have to realize is very successful people know that your body works. If you're
starting to lose energy, your body will work and try to figure out a way to help you gain energy.
So if you're going to work out consistently 21 days in a row, you're going to notice your levels
of energy increasing because
your body will naturally adapt to that. And that's also why working out in the morning is really good
because you will have a whole lot of energy early in the morning. So exercise, you know, even if you
don't go to the gym, just getting out and moving. You know, I've been hearing a lot of articles
about people who just wake up earlier and go for a 30-minute walk with
their dog or they go for a 30-minute walk with their husband and wife and they spend that time
talking to their husband, wife, or thinking if they're going by themselves or if they're going
with their dog. But just that movement and the heart rate getting up is going to make your
energy levels boost throughout the entire day. So exercise is a huge thing. And the most
successful people work out. And I want you to realize that it's very rare that you see a very
successful person that's extremely overweight. I mean, if you really think about it, it's very rare
to see a very, very successful person, a billionaire, a millionaire, or whatever it is,
that's extremely overweight. And the reason why is because they realize that in order to be successful, their body
needs to have enough energy to push them throughout the day.
So the third thing I would say is to exercise.
You know, if you're not big into exercising or you want to get into it, I would recommend
21 days just going to the gym or getting some type of 30-minute motion.
And like I said, maybe you go to the gym three days a week if it just to kind of start off in the next, the other four days,
you know, you at least do 15 to 30 minutes of walking, just walk around your neighborhood.
That's all that you have to do. But 21 days straight and naturally you will start to get
those endorphins. Your body almost becomes addicted to the endorphins. And you're like,
man, I need to start working out.
My body feels like I need to work out.
And it becomes a natural thing that you need to start working out again.
So number three is exercise.
And something that goes along with that, I'll give you an idea.
I used to work out five to six times a week and had a couple really bad injuries lately.
And it's not from the working out.
It's just in general from playing a lot of sports over the past 29 years of my life.
And I haven't been able to, I went from five to six times a week for four years to not being
able to work out almost completely for the past six months. Uh, and for the past six months,
almost completely, but even the past year has been very, very limited. And so it was hard for
me to get back into the gym. So I made myself start going to the gym every single day, even if it's just
for 15 minutes. And I noticed that now when I don't go to the gym, I've started to feel like
I need to get to the gym because my body's becoming, you know, kind of addicted to those
endorphins. So that's number three is to exercise. The fourth thing that successful people do is they set goals
and they write them down. Now, I'm not going to go in a whole lot of depth through this one because
I mean, the book that I am talking about and the one that you can download at our website
is called Hack Your Goals. And for this, you can read the book and the book will give you
all of the information,
but I'll give you a couple of little nuggets of what successful people do with setting goals.
So the reason why you want to write them down is because when you write them down
and put them in a physical format, in your mind, it becomes real. So a lot of people say,
oh yeah, I have goals or I have aspirations or I have New Year's resolutions,
but they never actually write them down. So in their
mind, they don't actually become real. So when you write them down and they're in a physical format,
it becomes real to you. And what I recommend, one of the things that I've done for the past 10 years
is when I have a goal in something very big is I'll start visual cues. And we talk about this
more in the book in another chapter and also in another episode of our podcast. But I'll write down visual cues. So, you know, if I really want something,
I'll put it on, you know, my cell phone so I can see it every time I go to my cell phone. I'll put
it as my desktop background every time I get on my computer. I'll take a, you know, a dry erase
marker and I'll write on the mirror. So every time I go into my bathroom, I see the quote
that I wrote down or I see the goal so that I'm constantly reminded of those goals and it's hard
for me to forget it. So set goals, have visual cues, put them all over the place. If you do so,
you can put them in your car, you could put them, like I said, on your phone, your desktop,
all of these different places. But we'll definitely talk a lot more about goals in another podcast coming up in
just a couple. And it's my dog making some noises. He's dreaming in the background behind me.
So number four is to set goals. And the fifth one, the fifth one out of 10 that we're going to talk about is to read. And when I first started reading, my mentor told me that I should start reading. And I was 19 years old. I paid $500 a month to have a mentor at 19 years old. And that's people would think that's crazy, especially at 30, 40 years old,
they think that's kind of crazy.
But for a 19 year old to pay $500 a month
and the reason why was because I was dead set
on my goals and becoming successful.
And that $500 a month has made me hundreds of thousands
of dollars in the past 10 years.
And one of the first things that he told me
was that I needed to start reading. And recommended a book, uh, by Jim Rohn. It's called the, uh, let me see.
It's actually right here behind me. It's right here behind me. It's a, uh, that's actually not
it. I don't have it. I guess that's a, as a man thinketh by, uh, James Allen, which Tony Robbins says is his favorite book.
But I believe it's called The Five Major Pieces to the Life Puzzle.
I know it's the X number of pieces to the life puzzle, but I'm pretty sure that it's
five.
I'm not sure if it's five or six or seven or whatever it is.
And it's very short.
It's only like 90 pages.
But I started reading and I started underlining and highlighting and thinking about how it related to my life. And since then, I've kind of become addicted to
reading books, reading self-help books, reading business books. And self-help seems very rah-rah,
you can do it. But self-help books are very psychological based. A lot of them are just
really good and you can really dig in and kind of see mistakes you've made in your life and how you can improve them.
But what I would say is start reading.
The average CEO I've read in an article reads 60 books per year, which means the average
CEO reads more than a book a week, which is crazy because what it shows you is some people
that are already at the pinnacle of success, they're already up there, are constantly trying to get better. And how do you think that they got there? Well,
probably from reading. And, you know, the greatest minds in the world, whether they're still alive
or whether they've, you know, passed, most of them have written books, which means it's just
like sitting down and speaking with them at a dinner and learning from them. So if you want to
start getting smarter and start learning
about a specific subject, start reading about it. Try to get more time to start reading.
Anything that you want to know is pretty much already written. And for our book, if you're
the type of person that hates reading and you're just not big on reading, we made a condensed version of every business
self-help book that I've ever read. Our book is only like 30, 40 pages and it's very quick. It's
very easy to read. So if you're not a big reader, ours, we're giving to you for free. If you just
go onto our website, you can download it, mwfmotivation.com. Start with that.
You know, just say, hey, you know what? I'm going to take 40 pages.
I'm going to read these 40 pages.
I'm going to underline stuff.
I'm going to highlight stuff.
I'm going to use this as a workbook.
I mean, we recommend printing it out and writing all over it so that you can use it as an actual
workbook.
So if you hate reading, start with ours.
It's free.
It's not going to cost you anything.
And I promise you
it'll help you out into being successful. So just to kind of wrap up of what I was speaking about,
the five successful habits, and there's five more that are in the book, but these are the top five
that I wanted to go into. Number one is waking up early. You know, over the next 21 days, if that's
one of your things, how can you wake up early? How can you dedicate that time? Number two is very successful.
People have very big work ethic.
Number three is they love to exercise and they realize what it does for them.
Number four, set goals and write them down.
Number five is to read.
Start reading.
Start getting that knowledge.
And if I could give you the biggest tip, you know, the leaving piece for this episode,
it's to take one of those five things, dedicate the next 21 days to it, and just see if you can
create a habit. Try to get on that road to being successful. So that's number one, the first leaving
piece. The second leaving piece, wherever you are today, whatever you're doing, just make it your goal to also make somebody else's life better today.
