Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to the MWF Motivation Podcast. My name is Rob Dial, occasionally joined by my co-host Dean DeVries. And this is our podcast that comes out every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Buckle up, because the best version of yourself, and follow your passion. Buckle up, because the podcast starts now. Welcome to the MWF Motivation Podcast.
Starting point is 00:00:41 I am your host, Rob Dial, and we are going to be going over episode three, which if you're following along in our free ebook, it will be chapter three. And if you don't have the ebook and you want to get it, it's actually a really good chapter to get at this point because we're going to start writing a bunch of stuff down in the workbook version of it. But you can get it at mwfmotivation.com. And like I said, it's free. Just go ahead and go to mwfmotivation.com and get it. So what we're going to be going over today is honest reflection. Now, going into the next two chapters after this one, we're going to be talking about goal setting, how to goal set, how to follow through on your goals, all those different things in order to achieve your goals. But in order to get to that section, we have to first think about everything in the past and reflect on the past as well.
Starting point is 00:01:29 And, you know, have you ever set goals before where you've been really excited about them, but then you don't succeed on your goals? And the thing about that is sometimes the fear of failure because you already have, you know, given up on those goals and see it as a failure, it kind of holds you back from setting goals again and actually going forward and trying to get to the next level of your goals. So like I said, in order to go forward, we must first reflect on the past. So we're going to go over a couple different sections. If you're driving your car, I'm sorry, it's going to be really hard. It's not going to be hard, but it's definitely going to be not as beneficial to drive your car and listen to this episode as it would be if you have a pen and paper or if you have the book in front of you printed out so you can go over each individual
Starting point is 00:02:14 section that we're going to go over. So we're going to go over something called Stop, Start, and Continue. And I'll give you a quick, brief introduction to stop, start, and continue. So stop, start, and continue is we'll go over different sections of things. So for instance, the first thing we're going to go over is relationships. And what do you need to stop doing in your relationships? What do you need to start doing in relationships that you haven't been, but you know you need to? And what do you need to continue doing in your relationships that you're already doing really well and you want to make sure that you're still going to keep on doing? So let's go ahead and dive in. I'll explain the stop, start, and continue a
Starting point is 00:02:52 little bit as we go through it. So the first thing that we want to have honest reflection on, and we're going to use the past six months just as an example, because the past six months, you're still pretty much the same person. It wasn't that long ago. And you don't want to think back six or seven years because you can't really blame yourself because at this point in time, you're probably a different person, a smarter person, a wiser person. So we're just going to go back in the past six months. So for the past six months, the first thing, like I said, we're going to go over is relationships. six months, the first thing, like I said, we're going to go over is relationships. So how has your relationship in your romance been for the past six months with your significant other? How has
Starting point is 00:03:34 the relationships in the past six months with your closest friends and the people that mean the most to you and your closest friends, your family, everybody that you would consider family, you know, how has your relationships been with them? And, you know, which friend, you know, do you need to call because it's been too long since you reached out to them? Which person do you really appreciate and really value them being in your life? But maybe you haven't said that and you feel like it's about time that you really tell them what they mean to you and how much you appreciate them and everything they've done for you. So, you know, think about the past six months. If you have the pen and paper, which I recommend, you know, you can pause this at any point in time and go over this and write some
Starting point is 00:04:18 stuff down. But, you know, what do you need to stop doing in your relationships that may be hindering them? Maybe trying to protect yourself and not be vulnerable and tell people how much you appreciate them. Maybe you need to stop doing that. What do you need to start doing? Maybe you need to start telling people that you appreciate them or start taking your grandma out to lunch once a month or twice a month. Or what else do you need to start doing? What do you need to start doing to foster those relationships and make sure they continue to grow? Because, you know, if we have this whole book on how to become successful and
Starting point is 00:04:55 achieve success, success doesn't really mean anything to you unless you have somebody there to enjoy it with you. So you want to make sure that the relationships that you have in place, you keep them. And then also with the stop, start, continue, what do you need to continue doing with your relationships? What have you been doing good with your relationships? We're not just going to think about all the bad stuff in the past. What are you really good at? What could you make sure that you don't forget to keep doing? What did you do that you might have forgotten in the past six months that you're like, oh damn, I used to do that for my wife. I really need to continue doing that. So what do you need to stop, start and continue? If you're driving your car and you're listening to this, make some mental notes. Maybe if you
Starting point is 00:05:39 pull up to a stoplight, jot it down. Please don't, you know, write it down in your phone as you're driving on the interstate or, you know, whatever you need to do. Just mental notes are good. So that's the first thing is relationships. What do you need to stop, start, and continue doing in relationships to make sure the next six months are going to be really good for you? Number two, the second thing is personal growth and development. So, you know, what have you done in the past six months to become a better version of yourself? You know, would you say that you have, you know, grown a lot in the past six months? Have you become a better person in the past six months? Would you say that you've become hopefully not a worse person in the past six months? But are you pretty
Starting point is 00:06:21 much the same that you were six months ago and you kind of forgot to, you know, concentrate on, on growing yourself and making yourself a better person. And, you know, you might say, man, I'm just so busy with work though. And I've got the kids and everything like that. Um, but you know, even if, you know, you want to use kids and as an excuse, don't you think that your kids deserve to have the best father or the best mother they possibly can that's constantly growing and trying to become a better father, mother, brother, sister to everybody else that's around them, son. When they see you growing up and becoming a wiser, smarter, better person, your kids are going to naturally start to become that way as well. So personal growth and development. How many books have you read in the past six months? You know, even if it's not just
Starting point is 00:07:08 self-help books, you just normal books in general to keep your creative mind alive. Also, how many self-help books have you read? And you know, you might say, man, I'm just so busy with the kids. And I've got, like I said, the business and all of this stuff going on. I can't, I don't have time to do all of this reading. Like I said, a couple chapters ago, and a couple episodes ago, is you have to realize that the study that we spoke about says the average CEO reads 60 books a year, which is more than one a week. So if a CEO that's, you know, at the top of his game, probably has kids and a family is really busy as well. If they can find time to do it, can you find time to do it? you know, at the top of his game, probably has kids and a family and is really busy as well. If they can find time to do it, can you find time to do it? You know, how many conferences or seminars have you gone to, to personally grow or become better? How many podcasts and,
Starting point is 00:07:56 you know, educational or motivational podcasts have you started listening to in the past six months? You know, hopefully, you know, you listen to one at least three times a week, which would be Monday, Wednesday, Friday for MWF motivation, obviously, as you know. So how many more have you started listening to? And, you know, how much time have you devoted to be, you know, learning a new skill? What's something that you've always wanted to do? You know, maybe you've always wanted to learn? You know, maybe you've, you've always wanted to learn the piano and you've just been putting it off and you're like, man, I'm starting to get old. I don't know if I can learn the piano or maybe you've always wanted to paint and you,
Starting point is 00:08:34 you want to do painting classes or, you know, maybe you want to paint and you can just take your significant other to one of those, those painting classes where you can bring wine and you get to drink wine and paint at the same time as well. So maybe something like that for your personal growth. So what's something that you always wanted to do? And whatever day today is, can you get it done this weekend? What's the new skill that you want to do? The piano lessons or go paddleboarding or something like that. Could you do it this weekend? That one skill that you wanted to learn, could you do it this weekend? Can you find time, a couple hours in your schedule to do that one thing? You never know. You might do it. You might fall in
Starting point is 00:09:14 love with it. It might become your new passion and it might bring you happiness that you never knew that you really had. So with personal growth and development, what do you need to stop doing with personal growth and development? Like putting it off or buying books and not reading them? What do you need to start doing? Maybe listening to motivational podcasts like this one or going to seminars. And what do you need to continue doing? Maybe you are doing really good at a lot of motivational, personal growth, development stuff, what do you need to continue doing? If you're doing really well and you don't feel that you need any extra help and you don't feel like you need to get any better approach to growth or development, you know, what do you need to continue doing in that if you are doing it that way? And you know, with relationships, what would you rate yourself one to 10 on relationships? Going back to the first one, you know, what would you, if one being you're absolutely horrible at it, 10 being it could
Starting point is 00:10:09 not be perfect, more perfect at all. You know, what would you rate yourself and how could you get yourself to be better? And then also personal growth and development. What would you rate yourself one to 10 and how can you get yourself better as well? So that's personal growth and development. Spirituality is the next one. And whether you're religious or you're not religious at all, you know, everyone has their own beliefs. Everyone has their own practices. And, you know, if you are a religious person, have you been going to church or temple or whatever you believe in? Have you been going to that every single week like you think that you should be or that you originally set out to be at the beginning of the year? If you're not a church
Starting point is 00:10:51 person or a religious person, do you meditate? Have you been wanting to learn to meditate, but have you been putting it off? And if you have been wanting to learn to meditate, we're going to have an episode coming up on meditation. We're also starting to write a book on meditation. It's something that Dean and I do a lot. And, you know, we're writing a book because we feel like a lot of people kind of have a misconception of what it is and think it's some weird, you know, trippy go off into a distant land out of body experience. But meditation is just really good to clear your mind plan your day quiet all the noises and everything else that's around you so you know if you're not a spiritual person but you've always wanted to meditate you know have you been meditating have
Starting point is 00:11:35 you started it you know can you find time this weekend to to go somewhere learn how to meditate go to places i mean if you google you know, you know, like I live in Austin, Texas, if you were to Google Austin, Texas, learn to meditate, tons of stuff pops up. And I guarantee no matter what city that you're in, you can find at least one place, you know, can you find time this weekend to go out and get better at that? So, you know, how often do you pray if you're a religious person? If you're not a religious person, you know, how often do you pray if you're a religious person? If you're not a religious person, you know, how often do you practice words of gratitude and, you know, write down what you're grateful for. And, you know, at the very least, one thing that I really like is just waking up and sitting on my back porch and drinking coffee, completely quiet, no computer, no phone, nothing, and just watching the dog play
Starting point is 00:12:23 in the backyard. You know, that's just being quiet, watching the sunrise. You know, I think that's the spiritual thing to me is just sitting there and just enjoying being in the moment. So what do you need to stop doing as far as religious or spirituality stuff? What do you need to start doing in spirituality stuff and continue? You know, maybe you are doing really well. What do you need to continue doing? And, you know, enrage yourself one to 10 on your spirituality and how you can get better at it and how you can become better at it and what you could do in the next six months to get better at it. The next thing, number four, is finances. This is a big one. You know, how much have you put into savings in the past six months or how much have you had to take out of savings in the past six months? And, uh, you know, how are you
Starting point is 00:13:08 going to get back there? Like for me, for instance, I just bought a house. So I had to take a ton of money out of savings in the past six months. So my goal is to get my savings back to where it was before I had to put the down payment on the house. So finances, you know, have you been investing? You know, there's a lot of stuff going on in the stock market. Have you been trying to invest? Are you too scared of it because of what the economy looks like in China or whatever it is? Have you been reading investing books? recommend. It's called Money. It's by Tony Robbins. It's quite a large read. It's like six or 700 pages, but it is really, really good for someone who has absolutely no idea of finances and you're trying to get better at it. And you want to make sure that you have this nest egg when you retire so that you can have freedom. And my goal is to save as much money as I possibly can to retire as early as I possibly can. I'm talking very, very, very, very early
Starting point is 00:14:04 because I'm kind of addicted to traveling. So how much do I need to have to travel the world and never have to work again in the rest of my life? That's one of my goals. So what about your goals? Have you done a budget and gone through all of your finances? This is one of the things that I find with some people. I had to do it with a company I was with when I was very, very young, go through all of my finances and see what I spend with some people. I had to do it with a company I was with when I was very, very young, go through all of my finances and see what I spend my money on. So to me, it became very normal to go through my finances. But I found that a lot of people, a lot of my friends spend money very frivolously and don't know where their money goes. They just know they don't have a lot of it.
Starting point is 00:14:40 There's an app you can download that helps a lot with that. It's called Mint. And, uh, it's very easy to use. You hook it up to your bank account, wherever it is. You just tell exactly what you're spending. And at the end of the month, it tells you exactly what you're spending all of your money on. I would definitely recommend that. So, you know, have you gone through as a budget? And I find that most people, they don't, uh, not go through their budget because they don't know about money. Um, or because of, you know, just sheer, you know, ignorance to it. It's just the fact that they're scared to go through and look at what they spend their money on and how much money they have. And I don't know what it is. It's, it's even kind of scary to me, um, to go through all of my finances and look at
Starting point is 00:15:20 it because I think that some people just like to keep it out of sight, out of mind. But what could you do in your finances? What could you stop doing? Number one, could you stop getting coffee the more you start making coffee at home? What could you do to get your finances better? So what do you need to stop doing? What do you need to stop spending money on? Maybe not eating out as much and eating at home. What do you need to start doing to make your finances better and to get you to where you need to be in the next six months? And then what do you need to continue doing? Maybe you're good with your finances.
Starting point is 00:15:53 And so what you want to do is rate yourself 1 to 10, complete honesty with yourself. What would you rate yourself 1 to 10 on your finances? Number five would be your career and your business. Now with your career and business, you know, maybe you work at a job and, you know, have you had any promotions in the past six months or are you getting closer to your next promotion? Even a simple question is, are you producing better results and better work than you were six months ago? Or, you know, are you pretty much the same, making the exact same results?
Starting point is 00:16:31 If it's one of your passions to start a side business, have you started that side business? Was it your goal to do so? If you wanted to start a side business and make some extra money on the side of $500,000 a month or something like that, that adds up to $6,000 to $12,000 a year. That's a pretty big pay raise right there by itself. You know, so is there a side business that you want to start? Can you take this weekend and, and put a few hours into researching and how to get better at it and how to, you know, completely take your free time in this, you know, small amounts of free time, but be able to figure out ways to find something that you like, find something that you're
Starting point is 00:17:10 excited about, and then, you know, make some money off of it on the side. So you can take, maybe you just take that extra money that works perfectly with finances where we just went over. Maybe take the extra money that you make, every single dollar that you make from your side business, and you put it straight into your nest egg and start investing it. Or maybe you put it for a down payment on a house. If you made $1,000 extra a month, that's $12,000 at the end of the year that you made. That's a pretty good down payment or half of a down payment on a house. So with career and business, if money were no option, if money didn't exist, what would you be doing with your time?
Starting point is 00:17:49 You know, what would your profession be and how would you spend your waking hours if money meant absolutely nothing? And whatever that is, I'm truly passionate and believe that that's what people should do with the rest of their life. And that's what people should do with the rest of their life. And that's what they should do. And you know, if you're passionate about something and you put a lot of time into it, you will eventually become very good at it. And when you're very good at it, you can then sell your services to other people. And then you start making money off of your passion. So with career and business, you know, what do you need to stop doing at your career and business? Maybe going on Facebook on your phone and wasting time when you're at work. I don't know, something like that. What do you need to start doing in order to further your
Starting point is 00:18:30 career in business and maybe get another promotion or make some more money or make some more commissions at work? And then what do you need to continue doing? So stop, start, and continue. What do you need to stop, start, and continue doing with your career in business? And then if you were being honest with yourself, what would you rank yourself one to 10 on career in business? The next one and last one is physical. Physical, your health, your body. A good question is, are you in better shape than you were six months ago? Has your body gotten better? Has it gotten worse? Or is it the same as it was six months ago? And do you want it to be better? You know, have you been eating a lot of fast food or, you know, have you been
Starting point is 00:19:10 having too many, too many cheat meals? Or if you're, if you're like me and you just love sugar, have you had too much candy and too many sweets in the past six months? And could you cut those out? One thing that I noticed is that you, for me, I love candy. You can ask anybody and I love, you know, tons of different treats and stuff. But the one thing for me is that I know is if I don't have it, I don't really crave it as much. But if I have a little piece of candy or any type of sugar, it's like something switches in my brain and I just feel like I have to finish the entire bag of Skittles or whatever it is. So if you're like me and it's sugar, you know, how can you stay away from that temptation and, you know, not take a bite of the cookie, which is going to make, you know, you want to eat the entire box of cookies if, you know, you're like me. So what do you need to stop, start and continue doing? You know, do you need a trainer?
Starting point is 00:20:01 Do you want to get a trainer? Has it been a goal for you to get a trainer once or twice a week? Or do you need to get a gym membership and commit to yourself to being in better physical shape? You know, what are you doing if you have kids or a family? for everyone else. Every single person that you have a relationship with, whether it's a significant other or your parents or your children or your brother and sister, your family, people depend on you and you bring happiness to people's lives. So it's not just about you. It's also about making sure that you're around for them. So what do you need to stop, start, and continue doing for your physical shape? And how would you rate yourself one to 10 on the physical shape and be completely honest with yourself? So that's the end of this episode. To wrap up, just a couple
Starting point is 00:20:55 things I want to leave with you. Number one, the leaving pieces for today. I want you to, like I said, if you were driving and you weren't able to do this, maybe listen to the episode when you get to the office or when you get back home or when you get some free time. But if you remember nothing else in this episode, try to remember stop, start, and continue. So take anything in your life, anything at all, and think about what do you need to stop doing in that area of your life? What do you need to start doing in that area of your life? And what do you need to continue doing in that area of your life? What do you need to start doing in that area of your life? And what do you need to continue doing in that area of your life that you're really good at?
Starting point is 00:21:26 So that's the first leaving piece. And the second leaving piece, as every single episode, I wanna leave you guys with this. Make it your mission today to make somebody else's day better. Have a good one. And so that is it.
