Once again, 1-512-580-9305. Today, we're going to be talking about how to find yourself mentors to help you progress into the direction that you want to faster. And today, we're going to talk about, and the reason why, obviously, this is called the mindset mentor. I love mentors. I think mentors are the fastest ways to move yourself along in the direction that you want. In fact, the average millionaire, they've had studies on it, has had seven serious mentors before they became a millionaire. So you've got
Starting point is 00:01:01 to think about that for a second. Look around your life and ask yourself, do you have any mentors, any people that you can look up to that show you at least the path that you're trying to create? I'll give you a perfect example, okay? Even if you don't care to become a multimillionaire, right? If you just want to have a better relationship, is there anybody that you know
Starting point is 00:01:21 that could be your relationship mentor? Do you have a couple that you know that have been together for 30 years and they seem more in love than they were when they first got married? You can have mentors in every aspect of your life. I have mentors with my fitness. I have mentors with learning how to fly a plane. I have mentors with playing guitar, with singing.
Starting point is 00:01:38 I have mentors with my business. I have mentors with everything that I do. And so why is it important to have mentors? Simply because of this. Mentors collapse time. What do I mean by that? Is you can go and you can figure everything out if you want to. You know, if you say you're trying to build the business, well, you can go and you can figure out how to try to build a business and you can go and you can make mistakes and you can spend years and years and years making the mistakes, finding out what works, finding out what doesn't work. Or you could find someone who has a business that's maybe way more successful than yours. Maybe it's in the exact
Starting point is 00:02:14 same industry. Maybe it's not. But what that person does is they're able to share with you some of the things that have worked for them and some of the things that have not worked for them so that you don't have to waste your time doing the things that don't work. And you can spend more of your time on doing things that do work. You know, like one of the mentors that I have in my business, you know, her business is very similar to mine. Part of her business is very similar to mine and her business does $50 million a year. And we were having a conversation and her business went from 1 million to 2 million to 5 million to 17 million to 34 to 50. And I was like, whoa, like we went one to two to five last year.
Starting point is 00:02:52 We did five. How did you go to 17 to 34 to 50? Was literally able to ask her questions. She's like, these are my biggest things that I noticed. This is how it was. You know, I realized that I had to remove myself from the business in a lot of places and stay in my genius zone. And then in turn, what I had to do was I had to hire people and put them in place to do the things that I didn't want to do anymore and make sure that I trained them the best they possibly could so they could have full autonomy and see
Starting point is 00:03:18 that as their business. So I was able to see someone in the same industry as me who's on the same, the first three years, we did pretty much the exact same numbers, but then she had this exponential growth. And I was like, what did you do? And she told me, imagine if instead of doing that, I went and tried to figure it out on my own. And so you can do this no matter what you're in.
Starting point is 00:03:38 If we're talking about business, if we're talking about relationships, if we're talking about parenting, there's mentors in every single aspect of your life that you could find. But what they do essentially is they collapse time. They share their secrets with you so that you know what works and what doesn't work. So you don't have to just try things out and find out what works anymore. And so the example that I always love to give is this. They say that men are bad at asking for directions. I think that's complete BS because I have no problem asking for directions or help with anything.
Starting point is 00:04:09 And the reason why is because trying to figure it out on my own takes too much time. I'd rather just be efficient. And so the example that I always give is this. If you go to the grocery store and let's say you need to pick up peanut butter, you can go and you can walk down every single aisle looking left and looking right and looking left and looking right until you come across the peanut butter. And you know what? Maybe you passed the peanut butter because you weren't paying enough attention or you were looking on the right when it was actually on the left and you passed the peanut butter. Now you got to go back and try to find the peanut butter again. You can take time, two, three, four, five
Starting point is 00:04:43 minutes trying to find peanut butter. You can get the peanut butter and then you can check out and you can leave. Or you can walk up to somebody who works at the store and say, hey, where's your peanut butter? I literally did this last night. I had to go get coffee. And I went to one person. I said, where's your coffee? Oh, it's on aisle seven. And I went directly to the coffee. I was in and out of that store in like 45 seconds, a minute. A mentor is the equivalent of that person who goes and takes you directly to the peanut butter. I want someone to take me directly to the peanut butter in my relationships, in my business, in my finances,
Starting point is 00:05:16 in parenting when I eventually have kids, in every aspect of my life. I don't want to have to figure it out. I'd rather just pay someone or get a mentor who might be a free mentor to help me find the peanut butter quicker. You can think about it and you can go, oh yeah, I could go find it myself or I could just ask someone who's already been there. A mentor is somebody who's already been there. That's it. And so it makes sense when you do that. They collapse time. They collapse time of finding the peanut butter.
Starting point is 00:05:46 That's what a mentor does. Another example is, you know, if you're in California and you want to get to Hawaii, you could take a boat to Hawaii and you could drive that boat. It's not very safe, but you can drive that boat from California all the way to Hawaii. There's tons of boats that do that all the time.
Starting point is 00:06:03 Or you could take a jet. One could take months. you could take a jet. One could take months. One could take hours. Which one would you rather do? You'd rather hop in a plane and be able to enjoy yourself. Maybe enjoy a couple of drinks. Maybe take a little nap and you wake up and you're in Hawaii versus spending weeks and weeks or months and months trying to get from California to Hawaii. That is what a mentor does. They help you find the peanut butter quicker. They help you get to Hawaii quicker. That's basically what they do. And so what I want you to think about is this. What's the most important part of your life this year that you would really benefit from having a mentor in? What is it for you? Maybe
Starting point is 00:06:39 it's your business. Maybe you really just need to find a business mentor. Okay, good. Find that business mentor. Maybe it's your relationship. Maybe it's relationship with your spouse, with your boyfriend or girlfriend. Or maybe it's your relationship with your children. You know, maybe you need a mentor of someone who really knows how to have deep, meaningful relationships with their children.
Starting point is 00:06:58 Maybe you have a friend who's 20 years older than you and you look at the relationship with their kids. I have a friend whose parents, they're amazing and they have such a great relationship with them. I could go, hey, what did you guys do when you were younger? What did you do? How are you guys so close? I don't really see somebody who's that close to their parents. You could find somebody like that could help you with it. You can find a mentor in your money. Maybe you really want to get better at saving. Maybe you really want to get better at saving. Maybe you really want to get better at making money. Maybe you want to get better at investing. Maybe you want
Starting point is 00:07:28 to get better at Bitcoin. Maybe you want to get better at real estate and investing in a real estate. What could you use a mentor for this year? Think about that for a second. Maybe you need a mentor for your mindset. You've got anxiety and you need someone to help you with their mindset. I know a guy, but maybe you want some help on your mindset or whatever it is for you. Maybe you need a mentor for your body where you just really need a body mentor because you look at your body and you're like, you know what? I've been trying this on my own for a while. I'd rather just pay somebody that could tell me what I should do for workouts, that should tell me what I should lift weights, that can tell me when I need to do cardio, that can tell me what I should be eating for my nutrition. What mentor do you need? Think about it, write it down, figure it out, whatever it is you need to
Starting point is 00:08:10 do right now to make sure that you put down on pen and paper or burn it into your brain, the mentor that you need right now. Who is it? What is it? What do you need them to do for you? Hey, everybody. 2022 is here and it's time to grow into the best version of yourself. And one of the ways that you can do that is through books. Books have always been and will always be one of the most essential pieces to learning and growing. And that's one of the reasons why Blinkist is so amazing. Although many books have great content, a lot of them have what I like to call fluff stories. Stories that are put into the book to hammer a point home, but if you already understand a point, there's no need to tell five different stories about that one point. What's cool about
Starting point is 00:08:49 Blinkist is that you can have the most important ideas and takeaways from the world's top nonfiction bestsellers, all in fun 15-minute reads or listens. You can use these Blinks to get inspiration, learn more about books that you like to read, to broaden your knowledge, and to get new perspectives. And they have amazing books like The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck, Atomic Habits, The Power of Habit. And right now, Blinkist has a special offer for my audience. When you go to Blinkist.com slash mindset, you can start a seven-day free trial and get 25% off a Blinkist premium membership. That's Blinkist, spelled B-L-I-N-K-I-S-T, Blinkist.com slash mindset for 25% off and the seven-day free trial, Blinkist.com slash mindset. Hey, be your own boss in 2022 and join over 100,000 other customers who have ditched their
Starting point is 00:09:39 old clunky banks for a streamlined, no hidden fees banking app that does the work for you and already works with popular tools that you use every day. Novo is the number one business banking app because it's built from the ground up to be powerfully simple and free business banking that Money Magazine calls the best business checking account of 2021. With Novo, there are no minimum balances, no transaction limits, and no hidden fees. Novo offers in-app invoicing and reserves, which are buckets for big expenses or taxes. Sign up for free in under 10 minutes at banknovo.com slash dial, and they'll send you a virtual card to use while your physical card is
Starting point is 00:10:15 being mailed to you. No delays. And there's a great bonus for our listeners. You get access to over $5,000 in perks, free in discount and access to services that you already use like Stripe, Salesforce, QuickBooks, Snapchat, and Google ad credits, and so much more. This year, get your free business banking account in just 10 minutes at banknovo.com slash dial. That is banknovo.com slash dial is sent up for free and to get free access to over $5,000 of perks and discounts that I mentioned earlier just for signing up. That's banknovo.com slash dial. And for me, the reason why I'm so big on mentors, if you've been listening to this podcast for long enough, you know that I hired my first coach,
Starting point is 00:10:59 my first mentor when I was 19 years old. I paid $500 a month. And I can honestly tell you with every cell, all 50 trillion cells in my body, I would not be the person that I am had I not taken that big step and hired this person. And so that's the thing about it that's super important is I can tell that my life could have been completely different had I not had this guy come into my life. He was successful at the business that I was new in. And I said, you know what? This guy's already got it figured out. Why don't I just pay him? And I paid $500 a month when I was 19 back in 2006. That was more than I paid for rent. But I was just like, I don't want to be broken more. I don't want to be poor anymore. I don't want to go back to where I was. I want to be able to create something with my life. And hiring that mentor literally created a fork in the road for me. My life could have gone left
Starting point is 00:11:43 and it could have been completely different, but I decided to go right. And it was the best investment I ever, ever, ever could have done. And I get emotional when I think about how much my life has changed since hiring that guy. And we worked together for two years and he worked on my mindset
Starting point is 00:11:59 and he worked on my sales techniques and he worked on my business techniques so that I could get better at those things. Changed my life completely, would pay that $500 10 times over if I had to go back and do it. So why don't I just learn from someone that could help me out? Guy changed my mindset. He changed my bank account. He changed my relationship with personal development. Literally changed my life. And so I try to have a mentor in all areas of my life if I possibly can. I told you, if you've been listening to podcasts,
Starting point is 00:12:25 I hired a certified flight instructor. I could have gone and found somebody that was just a CFI and just a normal person. But instead, I'm paying more to this guy who's been flying for 50 years. He started when he was seven. He learned from his dad. He flew for UPS for 32 years and he just retired in December, right? I would rather pay him, a guy who's got 17,000 hours of flight
Starting point is 00:12:46 time versus going and trying to figure it out on my own. I can't legally figure it out on my own, but I'd rather pay him than I would pay somebody who's been doing it for a year or two years. You know, when I was younger and I was trying to get better at playing guitar, I would pay someone to help me learn how to guitar. I could go onto YouTube and I could figure out how to play, or I could pay someone who's a professional who's really good to show me so that I can get there quicker. When I first moved to Austin, I wanted to work on my voice and I wanted to be able to sing better. So I've had multiple voice coaches to help me get better with my voice. So what aspects of your life do you feel like you would benefit from having a mentor? What do you think? And so like for me,
Starting point is 00:13:27 I teach people how to grow coaching businesses. Why? Because I've already done it. I've already screwed up everything in a coaching business. I spent five years figuring out what doesn't work so that I can help somebody and teach them what does work, right? And so it's just getting to the peanut butter quicker. And so let's talk about mentors real quick because people always ask me this question when they reach out. There's free mentors and there's paid mentors. Both of them are great. Both of them have their pros and their cons.
Starting point is 00:13:51 So I want to talk to you about both of them so you can have an idea of what you need depending on what it is you're trying to do, okay? Let's talk about free mentors first because nobody likes spending money. They always like getting something for free if they can. Free mentors are great, okay? I have many friends that I consider mentors of mine.
Starting point is 00:14:08 I surround myself with people that inspire me, that want me to do better. I have friends that are older than me. I have a friend that's worth over $100 million. And I talk to him every few months. We don't talk every single week. But when I get around him, he says things where I'm like, oh my God, I've never thought of that.
Starting point is 00:14:31 He's a friend of mine, but I would consider him a free mentor. And I have him around me and I'm able to hang out with a bunch of free mentors that I consider my friends and I learn from them. They learn from me. We work on each other, all of this stuff. But none of them feel like they are obligated to help me succeed. They want Like they want me to succeed with all of that. They all want, they want to root for me, all of that stuff. But none of them feel obligated. And so free, the benefit of free is that they are free. The downside to a free mentor is that they, number one, they don't talk to you as much most of the time.
Starting point is 00:14:58 You know, when I say you pay for somebody, you should talk to them every single week. That's how it should be, every single week. So sometimes I don't talk to some of my friends that I would consider mentors for three weeks, four weeks, six weeks. They might go out of town. I might go out of town. It might be hard to manage schedules. So free are great, but the downside of it is they don't feel obligated to make sure you succeed. Now, paid mentors are really great as well. I would prefer, if I'm being honest with you, I would prefer to pay somebody. Why? Because in many ways, they feel obligated because there is a value exchange, a monetary
Starting point is 00:15:30 exchange, which is, hey, I'm paying you money. They feel like, hey, I need to make sure this person's getting value from what I'm teaching them, right? And so they have accountability. So you say what you're going to do, you know, If you're hiring somebody for business, right? You say, all right, well, I'm going to do X, Y, Z. Well, then the next time you talk, the next week, because you should be talking every single week,
Starting point is 00:15:51 they need to make sure they're holding you accountable with doing what you say you're going to do. Because a lot of times, we just don't have somebody that's holding us accountable. And you should be talking every single week. And your success in whatever it is that you're paying for is their obligation. That's the beautiful thing about it. They feel like in order to make themselves valuable,
Starting point is 00:16:10 they need to make sure you succeed in your relationship, in your business, in your mindset, in your finances, whatever it is that you're paying them for, right? Your success is their obligation, which is the benefit of a paid mentor. But it all depends on what it is that you want. And so you've got to figure it out and you've got to start to see. And here's the thing, you can have mentors in your local area or you can have mentors that you literally never meet or you just see them online. And this is another thing that people don't realize because I talk with people that are like, oh my gosh, I live in the middle of Wyoming and I don't have any houses anywhere near me. How am I supposed to find a mentor? I'm like, well, what is it that you want to do? Do you want to know the beautiful thing about
Starting point is 00:16:47 whatever it is that you do? Google exists. If you're looking for a mentor that's a business mentor and you don't have anybody that's near you in the vicinity, well, why don't you just say, okay, I want to grow an Amazon business. Okay. Well, there's a lot of people that teach how to grow an Amazon business out there. So what can you do to go, all right, well, there's a lot of people that teach how to grow an Amazon business out there. So what can you do to go, all right, well, there's a lot of people that teach how to grow an Amazon business. Who is the person, you know, so I would Google and go into YouTube, you know, grow an Amazon business. Okay, cool. And you start to look up who has a great Amazon business, who teaches this. And you can see some people, like there's some people out there, you're like,
Starting point is 00:17:22 not really my cup of tea. Don't really vibe with this person. And then there's some people that are out there and you're like, oh, this person, like, I feel like they're talking to me. I feel like they're talking to my soul. I feel like I would go out and get a couple of beers with this guy. And I feel like this person, you know, maybe hop on a phone call with them, send a message. Hey, really interested in growing my Amazon business. Do you have time to hop on a call? Want to see about possibly, you know, doing one-on-one coaching with you if it's possible or buying your course, whatever it is. And so therefore what happens is the beautiful thing about the internet,
Starting point is 00:17:52 if you don't take advantage of it, it's crazy. You could talk to anybody anywhere in the world at any point in time. And so there are some people who will just help you out for free and they'll give you some tips and all of that stuff. And those are great. Those are beautiful.
Starting point is 00:18:07 But if you really want to expedite your success in whatever it is you're trying to do, there is benefit into finding paid mentors. Now, I know you listening to me right now, you might not have the money that you want to in order to buy and have a paid mentor. Maybe you do. Whatever situation that you have, you have to realize that there are also another thing I didn't say with free mentors, there's YouTube.
Starting point is 00:18:27 You know, like I'm a free mentor for you right now. I have 1,200 free episodes you can go listen to right now. You know, if you want something more advanced, you could get something more advanced through me and you could work deeper with me if you wanted to. But if not, you could go through free right now. If you want to grow your Amazon business, there's people all over YouTube that'll teach you secrets.
Starting point is 00:18:43 There's podcasts that'll teach you secrets. No matter what it is you're trying to do, there are mentors in that way as well. The worst thing you could do is try to figure it out on your own. The best thing you could do is find yourself a mentor that you vibe with, that works with it, works with the same frequency that you do, that you like a lot. You say, you know what? I see the value in paying this person. I see how they're going to expedite my success. I'm going to pay this person to help me succeed. If you do that,
Starting point is 00:19:09 the majority of the time, you're going to notice that you're going to be a year, two years, three years down the road. You're going to be so much further along than had you not paid for your mentor. And so that's the value of having a mentor. If the average millionaire has seven mentors before they become a millionaire, you can see that there's benefit to finding mentors, to having mentors, to working with mentors. You've just got to figure out, number one, what it is that you want your mentors in.
Starting point is 00:19:34 And number two, who those people are going to be. Reach out to them, find them, talk to them, see if they're the right person. If they are, realize the best ROI that you can have is investing into yourself through a mentor in whatever it is you're trying to improve in. So that's what I got for you for today's episode. If you love this episode, please do me a favor, share it on your Instagram stories and tag me in it, RobDialJr, R-O-B-D-I-A-L-J-R. I've been seeing a ton of you guys that have been
Starting point is 00:20:00 sharing this stuff on your Instagram stories. So I greatly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart because the only way that we grow is from you guys sharing this. I don't have any massive corporations or NPR or ESPN or any of those things backing what I do. I'm literally sitting in my office giving this to you guys. So if you guys could do me a favor by sharing this, I would greatly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.
Starting point is 00:20:21 And I'm going to leave you the same way I leave you every single episode. Make it your mission to make someone else's day better. I appreciate you. And I hope that you have an amazing day.
