Hi, my name is Karen, and what I love most about Rob's group coaching is I now have something that I've been searching for for years.
A community of like-minded people who are really committed to growing themselves in order to fulfill their life goals and dreams.
And what I've gained from the group coaching is support, accountability, new friends, and a mentor in a community that bring into my life lessons, thoughts, challenges,
and resources that I can use to grow myself into the person that I need to be in order to fulfill
my goals and dreams for myself, my family, and my community. Welcome to the MWF Motivation Podcast,

the best investment I ever made was hiring a mentor when I was 19 years old. And last but not least, I am on a speaking run throughout the fall and
winter. So if your company has any speaking engagements where you would like for me to come
out, send me an email, rob at mwfmotivation.com and let's see if we can get something booked up.
All right. So today what we're going to be talking about is fitting in. Ooh, this is deep.
Because for some reason we all have that natural feeling that we want to fit in. We don't want to
stand out from the crowd because that would make us an outsider. Nobody wants to be an outsider.
You know, naturally, I think that we want to fit in just because of the fact that
thousands and thousands of years ago when we were traveling around in tribes, if we didn't fit in, that could mean death because we would be kicked out.
We depended on the tribe for everything.
We depended on the tribe for making sure that we stayed alive, for food, for shelter, for everybody watching each other and hunting and all of these things for safety.
But that doesn't serve us anymore.
Fitting in does not serve you if you want to have a great life.
So what do you do?
You stop being what society says you should be.
You stop fitting in.
You stop doing what others are doing as well. If you're trying to fit in,
then you are not trying to stand out. And that is a problem. Here's why it's an actual problem.
Fitting in is an actual problem. When you look at society, do you feel that most people have the life that you want or only a select few?
When you look at people you admire, do they stand out from the crowd or do they just blend in?
When you talk to them, do they seem normal? Like they think like everybody else?
Or do they seem like they're a little bit different? Like they think differently, they act differently.
Think of people that you admire, whether that's Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates,
Tony Robbins, Jeff Bezos. Those people, do they just fit in? Do they seem just normal?
Or do they stand out in some sort of way?
In the way that they act, in the way that they think,
in the way that they make decisions,
in the way that they go in search of education
and learning more and on constant growth mode.
Do they have a problem?
Do they have any problem doing things or acting in a certain way
or speaking in a way that's against the grain? Do they have a problem being against the grain?
Do they try to fit in? If you think of the people that you look up to and you admire,
some of the people that have changed the world the most, they don't fit in
with society at all. They don't blend in with society at all. Can you agree that 95% of people
in this world will live and die mediocre lives? They'll live with mediocre lives. They'll die
having lived a mediocre life. Could you agree that 95% of people, if not 99.9% of people,
will not live up to 100% of their potential? Can you agree to all of this stuff? Yes? Then why do
we keep trying to fit in? If we don't want to be mediocre, then we don't want to fit in.
then we don't want to fit in because fitting in means being mediocre.
Why do we care what other people think of us then? Why do we try to be the same as them and to not be ridiculed by them? If we want to be successful, if we want to live up to 100% of
our potential to not live mediocre lives, then we don't want to be like everybody else. Therefore,
we don't want to fit in. So then we need to change our mindset from, hey, I'm going to fit in to,
hey, I almost cussed in the middle of my podcast. I almost dropped an F-bomb.
Screw fitting in. That's what we have to say. I will not fit in with these people.
Whatever society is doing, I will do the exact opposite. You need to model who you want to become.
Do what the people that you admire do. And I understand people have the fear of standing out,
of being judged, of being different, of being looked down upon. But if you look at it in this light, wouldn't you agree that that fear is completely
ridiculous? Wouldn't you agree that your number one goal should be to not fit in,
to not do what everybody else is doing, to stop trying to be like everyone else?
Stop trying to be like everyone else.
If you want to be like everyone else,
you probably won't be remembered.
Or someone who lives a great life.
Most people don't live great lives.
So why would you want to be like most people?
Think about that.
You should not fear standing out. You should fear fitting in. Fitting in equals mediocrity. And I don't want you to live a mediocre life. And if you're listening to my
voice, you don't want to live a mediocre life. And I know that. So next time, if you get nothing else from this episode, next time
you feel the fear of standing out or being judged, embrace it because that's the universe telling you,
hell yes, you're doing the right thing. You're being different. You're going to make a change.
I cannot think of anybody who is huge, successful, changed the world that was just like,
well, I'm going to try to be like everybody else. Hell no. As bad as Steve Jobs may have been as a
manager and all of those things, he's the number one person I always think of. He tried to do
everything opposite of what everyone else was doing. And he turned out to build the biggest
company in the world.
Think about that next time you're starting to fit in. Next time you want to fit in,
change your mind to, holy crap, I'm doing what I'm supposed to do because I'm not fitting in.
