Welcome to the MWF Motivation Podcast, one of the top rated motivational podcasts in the world.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I come out with a short, to the point, no BS podcast designed to transform you from
who you are today into who you want to be. There's no fluff here, just life-changing
content. My name is Rob Dial, and the podcast starts now.
Welcome to today's episode. Today, we're going to be talking about how to get clarity on what you want in your life.
So when we're talking about clarity, I talk with a lot of people that have an idea of what they want in their life, but they're not really 100% sure of exactly what they want? There's no clarity on what they want. And you'll
never hit a target that you won't see. But most people have a general idea. I want to make money.
I want to be successful. I want to have a great family. I want to own my own business, right?
Those are, I guess you could say those are goals somewhat, but they're not very clear on exactly
what they want. Someone says, I want to make more money. What does that mean? Well, if you make one more dollar than you did last year, guess what?
You've made more money. So all of that is relative until you sit down with a pen and paper and say,
this is exactly what I want. You will never hit a target that you can't see. And so I'll give you a
perfect example that I like to give people. If you're sitting, let's say I take you out and I'm going to put you up to next to the
number one archer in the world, the number one person with the bow and arrow, right?
If I put both of you at the exact same spot, the exact same distance, give both of you
a bow and arrow, who has a better chance of hitting that target?
It's an obvious answer.
If it's the number one archer in the world, they have a better chance of hitting the target.
They have the practice.
They have the 10,000 hours.
They have a better chance.
They're better than you at it.
But if I were to take the exact same archer, blindfold them, spin them around a few times,
and then just let them go, who has a better chance of hitting that target then?
The answer is you.
And it's not because you're better.
It's not because you have any other sort of advantage.
The only advantage that you really have is that you can actually see the target
that you're trying to hit.
And that's exactly how it works for your goals.
If you don't know exactly what you want,
you're not going to get it.
That's like getting mad at your,
let's say for instance, your mom says,
hey honey, what do you want for Christmas?
And you're like, oh, I don't know exactly what I want.
And you get mad at your mom for the gift that she gives you
because it's not the gift that you wanted, right?
Well, if you didn't tell her what gift you wanted
and you get mad at her for giving you a gift
that you didn't want,
she had no idea what to give you
because you didn't tell her.
That's exactly how this works with your goals
and with the universe.
Let me give you an example.
The universe, well, I've given you enough examples.
But anyways, the universe will give you exactly what you ask of it. If you say, I want to make
$100,000 and I will work towards making $100,000 next year. That's a lot better than saying, hey,
I want to make more money this year, right? You might get an extra dollar. Like I said,
that's making more money. If you don't ask the universe for what you
want, you won't get it. Now, you might be someone who's like, oh, I'm a practical person. I don't
believe in all that universe BS. That's okay. It's not a big deal. This example might make sense to
you as well. If you get into your car and you're trying to go to this destination, you're going to
put in your phone, in your GPS, Google Maps, navigation, whatever it is that you use, you're going to put in your phone in your GPS Google Maps navigation whatever it is that you use you're going to put in the destination for where you're trying to go correct you're going
to say okay this is the address to exactly where I'm trying to go and then your GPS will calculate
what it needs to calculate to get you there as fast as possible that's what a GPS is used for
but if I'm trying to drive to my friend's house in Houston and I just put Houston, well,
I might get close to his house, but I'll never actually really arrive at his house because I
didn't put the address in. Houston is a place, but if I say his actual address in Houston,
that is much more specific. I will get there. Your brain works exactly the same as a GPS would.
get there. Your brain works exactly the same as a GPS would. If you say, this is exactly what I want,
your brain starts making calculations of how to get there. But if you don't know exactly where it is that you want to go, it's going to be hard for your brain to make those calculations.
And the best part about it is this. If you remember from those of you guys that are around
during the MapQuest days, when you used to use MapQuest, you'd put in the address that you needed to,
and it would give you step-by-step exactly, and you'd print that out.
That's exactly how you should go about your goals,
the same way that you would with trying to get to a place with MapQuest.
Write down your destination.
Write down where you are, because that's what it does.
GPS says, this is where you are, this is where you're trying to go,
let's try to get you as quick as possible.
With your goals, this is where you are. This is where you're trying to go. Let's try to get you as quick as possible, right? With your goals. This is where you are. This is the exact spot because we became very clear on exactly what it is that you want. Now let's try
to make it the quickest line to get there. Now, what I will tell you is this. Sometimes will there
be detours? Of course. Sometimes when, if I were to take that drive to Houston right now,
there might be an accident. There might be something that happens along the way. There Of course. Sometimes if I were to take that drive to Houston right now,
there might be an accident.
There might be something that happens along the way.
There might be a road closed down.
And when I get there, I'll see it and I'll say,
oh, detour, gotta hit the detour button.
And it will recalculate and take me a different direction.
I don't go, oh, I'm just done.
I'm not gonna make it. I'm not gonna go there anymore.
No, what I do is I hit the detour button
and I go a different direction, but I still go to my destination. Sometimes when you're trying to
get from here I am to here's where I'm trying to go on my goals, you're going to have a pretty
good plan. But every once in a while, you're going to have to hit the detour button. But the key is
you have to know exactly what it is that you want. And the more clarity that you have with your goals,
what it is that you want. And the more clarity that you have with your goals, the better chance you have of actually hitting it. One thing I like to do with my goals is visualize them. And the
more detail that I have with my goals, the better, because then I can visualize them in more detail.
So I'll let you know exactly what I do every single morning. I go through my morning routine,
and part of my morning routine after meditation is to look at my top three goals for the year and visualize all of those goals,
what it would feel like to hit those goals. So for this year, my goal was that I wanted to go
and live in Italy for six months. And my goal was to leave by July 1st. So from the beginning of the
year, every single morning, I visualized what it would be like to live there. I looked
almost every single day at different Airbnbs and where they were located and what it would be like
to live in these places, in these streets, what the streets looked like. I would actually find
addresses of places, go on Google Maps, and actually go onto the road on Google Maps and
see what these roads looked like to help me visualize being there. And I did it every single
morning. A lot of times people write down their goals for the year and then they forget them
because they don't pay attention to them every single day. They don't remind themselves of them.
So what happened, my goal was to be there by July 1st. We got there by June 1st because I was so
excited I could not wait anymore. I wanted to get there as soon as possible because I had seen it every single morning. But also, here's what happened with visualization. It made me work harder. I was so excited to get there that I worked harder to get there sooner. Right? It was like a trick to make myself work harder is visualizing exactly what I want.
And what you have to realize is that it creates a new normal for your subconscious and your unconscious mind.
And so what I mean by it is this.
I used to live when I was in college.
I lived with four other guys.
Actually, it was three other guys.
So it was four guys in this bachelor pad and it was fun.
It was great.
It was a great time when I was 21, 22 years old.
But I would never want to go back there.
And the reason why is because I've, I guess you could say, leveled up my life, right?
We were really dirty.
Nobody ever really did the dishes a whole lot.
It was kind of, it was gross.
People left beer cans all over the place.
It was fun, but I don't want to go back there, right?
Now that I've bought a house and I own a house,
I have my own office and all of those things,
it's kind of like leveling up.
Now that I've experienced this new normal that I have in my life, I don't want to go back to there.
When you visualize, your subconscious does not know whether that is true or not. It automatically
stores everything is true. So if I feel like I'm walking through the streets of Italy every single
morning, my subconscious is going to say, you live in Italy. So when I open my eyes, my subconscious
still thinks that it was there. It automatically stores everything is true. That was me leveling up
my life, just like I've leveled up my life from when I was in college. So what you have to realize
is that it makes you more excited to get to that point. And it also tricks your subconscious into,
more excited to get to that point. And it also tricks your subconscious into, oh, this is it.
We are actually there. That is the new normal. Because if you look around with what you have right now and where you are, you don't want to go back in life because you've already experienced
this. You've already experienced this level of life that you're at, this present moment.
So if you visualize and level up just a little bit, it's going to be the
new normal and you're going to want to try to come up and do what you need to do to level up to that
spot because your brain, your subconscious already thinks that it happened. It's true.
So what you have to realize from this is you have to get very clear on exactly what it is that you
want, right? How much money do you want to have in the bank? What type of house do you want? What type of spouse do you want? How many kids do you want? What type of
business do you want? What do you want from your business this year? What type of car do you want?
And you have to start planning these things out. The clearer that you get into what you want,
the more likely that you are to actually get it because you know what you want.
And you can agree most of the time when you're thinking
about your goals, if you're like 99% of the people, you have a general idea, but it's not
very clear. The more clear that you get with what it is that you want from your life,
the more likely you are to hit it. So sit down with a pen and paper, put all of the stuff that's
running through your head and say, what do I want for my life? And you start writing it down and then you start visualizing it and it
will make it easier for you to get to those goals. Then you can start making a plan of how to
actually get to those goals as well. So, but I appreciate you watching this and we will see you
