over the course of 30 days,
myself and hundreds of people
are going to be challenging themselves

that they need to get rid of,
that's holding them back
from the perfect version of themselves
and create two habits that they need to create.
And I'm going to be coaching them
every single step of the way.
30 days in a row, I'm going to do a lesson

want to be, or that you have habits that you need to break or create so that you can therefore
turn yourself into the person that you want to be. Join us inside of the Habit Mastery Challenge.

And man, it's going to be fun. It's going to be fun. It's going to be a challenge. It will not
be easy. So definitely do not join if you're not someone that's committed. But if you're committed
and you're ready to change your life, go to habits30.com and join us. Okay, so today we're going to be talking about
taking action and stopping procrastination. Now we're talking about how to take action
towards your goals. The first thing I want you to realize is this. Whenever I give a speech or have
people around me or I'm coaching people, the first question I ask them is this, do you know what you
need to do to be successful? And most people are like, yeah, I know what I need to do to be successful.
Well then what is holding you back from doing it?
And in some form, the next thing that people say is I'm not taking action.
They'll say, oh, I'm procrastinating.
Oh this, oh this, oh this.
But in, oh, I don't, I don't believe in myself.
It's hard for me to think that it's actually true.
Who would want to listen to me? In reality, everybody knows what they need to do to be successful, but they're just not
doing it.
So then how do we force ourselves to take action?
That's really what it comes down to.
Well, I was driving my car this morning and I thought about this.
And as I was about to pull out of the garage, I realized that if you're trying to turn your
car, it's really hard to turn
the wheels if the car's not moving. Have you ever realized that? To turn the actual car wheels, like
the wheel in front of you, if you're not moving, it's actually really hard to do unless the car
is moving. But once the car is moving, it makes it really easy to change directions and to turn
the tires. What does this
have to do with anything? It has to do with your life. Most people want to take massive changes in
their life, but they want to do it while sitting on their couch. They want to take massive changes
in life and go towards whatever their dreams are, but they're just not doing it. They're not going
in that direction. And it makes it really hard to try to change direction if you're not at least moving a little bit. So you might look at your
goal and think to yourself, oh my God, it's so far away though. All of this money that I want
to make or all of these lives that I want to impact, it's so far away. What am I supposed to
do now? What you need to do is you need to figure out what the first step is. As
Lao Tzu says, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Stop focusing on the
thousand mile journey. Look down at your freaking feet and ask yourself, what is the next step?
And even if you're just moving a little bit in the right direction, you're still moving a little bit.
And if you want to change course, it makes it a lot easier. But most people are sitting on their couch going, but I want to change course, but I
want to go this way. And I'm not sure if that's the right way. It makes it easier to pivot and
to change if you're already have some form of movement going. So the journey of a thousand
miles begins with a single step. What is your first step? The thing that you need to do is this,
what is your first step? The thing that you need to do is this. Stop thinking, start doing.
Write that down with a pen and paper right now. Stop thinking and start doing. The best part about taking action that I always tell people is that you don't have to believe in yourself
in order to create action. Most people are held back because they don't believe in themselves. Most people are held
back because they don't have confidence in themselves because they haven't done what they
want to go do. Most people are thinking that they might be rejected, thinking about how they might
be judged, thinking about failure, thinking about how they're afraid of success. But the best part
about this is that you don't have to believe in yourself right
now in order to create action. And I'll be honest with you, most people don't believe in themselves.
Most successful people have a lot of doubt. Most successful people, when they were on the road to
success, didn't believe in themselves. But the secret is when they woke up every single morning,
even if they felt that doubt, even if they felt that lack of belief, they still woke up and did it anyways. So what you have to realize is this, if you're trying to change your life, if you're
trying to pivot into a new direction, stop focusing on a thousand miles from now. Look down at your
feet and just figure out how to take the
first step and then how to take the second step and then how to take the third step. Because the
truth of the matter is you can't take the 14th step until you take the first step. You can't
even take the second step until you take the first step. You know, earlier today I was talking about
how most people, they want to be the tortoise. I'm sorry, they want to be the hare. They don't
want to be the tortoise. They want to get to success. They want to rush there as fast
as they possibly can. So there's one of two people either. Number one, people think about stuff too
much and they don't take action. Or number two is that they go so hard, so fast that they burn
themselves out and they don't actually do what needs to be done. They don't take the right steps towards success. Slow and steady wins the race. We've heard this over and
over and over again since we were children. The story of the tortoise and the hare shows you that
slow and steady wins the race. You know, when I first started my podcast four years ago,
you know, there was a lot of people that started podcasts. I was in a giant Facebook group
with thousands of people who had podcasts. They were all starting them. They were trying to
get them off the ground. And the average podcaster, just so you know, average podcast has seven
episodes. And the reason why is because the podcast host gives up. They do seven. They go,
it's not going the way that I want to. Maybe I should do something different. Maybe I should
focus on another podcast. Maybe I should give up on my dream because I'm not as good as I thought
I was going to be. It's about taking a little bit of action and a little bit of action and a little
bit of action and going in the right direction and knowing that you might have to pivot, but as long
as the car's moving, it's easier to turn the wheel. but the freaking car has to be moving in order to turn
the damn wheel. So you have to realize that taking action is a very first step. And if you either,
once again, one of two people, number one, you're sitting on your couch worrying about it too much,
or number two, you're going too fast and it's just like a plane going too fast. Eventually,
you're going to crash and burn. You're going to lose control of it. If you really want to take action, don't worry about rushing, but think about how can I take
the next best step? One foot here. And then once you take that step, you take the next step and
you put one foot here and then you take the next step and you put one foot here. And another example
that I love to learn is like the Tarzan method, right? Tarzan, if he's going across the jungle, he might go from one side of the jungle.
And then, you know, he has to go from one tree branch to another, to another vine, to
another vine, to another vine.
But he can't skip five vines.
He's got to go from one to the other.
And one of them might be right here.
And then the other one might go way across to the left.
And then the other one might be way across to the right.
And he might not be taking as far as jumps as he wants to, but he knows if he just finds the next
vine and the next vine and the next vine and the next vine, eventually he's going to be on the
other side of the jungle. So it might seem like you're going off the path that you want to be on,
but going a little bit off of the path might be easier to get onto the next vine, which is
closer into the path that you need to be, which might be easier to get onto the next vine, which is closer into the path that you need
to be, which might be easier to get into the next path that you need to. And so you have to realize
with taking action, it's just slow, deliberate steps. Don't burn yourself out, but don't have
the lack of belief and the lack of doubt that holds yourself back as well. So the question that
I have for you is this. Number one, most important question to ask yourself with this episode. What is my first step? I recommend having a one-year goal. I recommend having a 10-year goal. But then you look down at your feet and you say, what is my first step?
Don't worry about the next thousand miles because the journey of a thousand miles begins at the single step.
Think about your next thousand miles.
And then what I want you to do is look down at your feet, know that the thousand miles
is there, but you have to take the next step and only focus on taking your next best step
right now.
Take that fricking step.
Don't even worry about step two, take step one.
And then after you finish step one, then you can take step two.
And then after step two, you can worry about step three, but don't worry about step one. And then after you finish step one, then you can take step two. And then after step two, you can worry about step three.
But don't worry about step one through one million right now
because that's gonna paralyze you
because there's too many steps in between.
There's too many vines in between for Tarzan.
You just focus on the very next one.
So the question that I have for you
is what is your next step?
What is your first step?
Because like I said, you don't have to believe in yourself in order to create action, but
you got to take at least a little bit of action, slow and deliberate steps in the right direction.
And eventually you'll look back and go, holy crap, I just went a thousand miles.
So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
