It doesn't work for some crazy reason. Just go to coachwithrob.com and put your information in there and you will be joining in for free for the five-day challenge. So coachwithrob.com. All right. So today what I'm going to be talking about is delayed gratification. And I've done an episode over a year ago on this in the past and I wanted to talk about it again because I was watching somebody speak about it
Starting point is 00:02:09 and I think it's very important for people to understand this. We live in a world where everything, everything it seems like is instant. It's right now. I was just looking, literally I was looking on my, I pulled up my phone in Amazon. If I want to with Prime Now, I can get food, bananas delivered to my house within two hours. I don't even, my lazy butt doesn't even have to get off the couch in order for me to get
Starting point is 00:02:35 bananas in my freaking house. Like that's crazy. That was never a thing back in the day, right? I can go on Instacart and order any food that I want to deliver to my house within a couple hours. I can go on apps like Favor and I can get pretty much anything that I want to deliver to my house. You can go, if you're a single person, you go on apps like Tinder and whatever all of those other things are. I'm not sure because I'm not single. So there's a bunch of them from what I've been told. There's like Bumble and other things like that. And you can immediately find someone to go on a date with, right?
Starting point is 00:03:08 They used to take a long time back in the day. You used to have to go places and actually see people's faces and actually have the cojones to walk up to them and have a real conversation, right? We're used to everything being instant. But success is not instant. That is the catch-22. Everything is instant nowadays, but success is still something that requires work. It requires delayed gratification. Instant gratification is when something is immediate. We all know what those are. We have technology. We have the phone, right? And it's so instant to the fact that I remember back in the day when I was a kid, there were times when
Starting point is 00:03:51 I used to have a question about something. And if I wasn't by a library or an encyclopedia, there's a pretty good chance I just never figured out the answer to it. Now I can literally say, okay, Google. I don't even have to take my lazy freaking hand and pick up a phone, right? I could say, okay, Google. And my phone immediately goes, bloop, and it pops up. And I can say, how far is the sun from the earth? And it goes, bloop, the sun from the earth is 93 million miles away, right? There was a time when that wasn't even possible, where you would go, there were people sitting around and they were having conversations like, man, I wonder how far the sun is from the moon or sun is from the earth. Well, anybody know? No, nobody knows. All right. Well, I guess we'll just change the subject. I
Starting point is 00:04:35 bet it's pretty far though, right? That used to be a thing where people didn't know stuff right away. Now you don't even have to pick up your phone. You can just say something out loud and your phone responds to you. Or you can, you know, if you have Amazon or any of those things around your house that are listening to you all the time and you're like, hey, Alexa, you know, play this song, right? There was a time where if you didn't have an album, you couldn't listen to the song. When I was a kid, I remember I used to make mixtapes because the fact that I'd listen to the radio and wait for my favorite songs to come on. And I hit the record button immediately so that I could have them on a tape to listen to them later. Right now, if I want to
Starting point is 00:05:12 listen to Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon, I just say Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon, and boom, it's playing already. And it's playing through my speakers that are attached to my Wi-Fi. That's crazy. And so you have to realize we're so brainwashed, and I'm harping on this subject because of the fact that I think we forget about how crazy and amazing technology is, but we're so brainwashed by the fact that we have everything immediately at our hands that I think we're getting used to, and I think that's why success is getting harder and harder for people
Starting point is 00:05:41 is because they're so used to everything being instant. But success, I don't think it will ever be instant. It requires hard work. It requires dedication. It requires thousands of hours. And so if you're out there listening to this, realize that all the technology we have, it is amazing, but it is making us feel like everything should be instant. But there are some things that are just not instant. But here's the thing. You have to think of delayed gratification, not instant gratification. So an example of what I would mean by this, delayed gratification would be waking up every single morning at 6 a.m.
Starting point is 00:06:24 when you don't even have to single morning at 6 a.m. when you don't even have to be up until 8 a.m. because you want to start working on yourself or working on your business or read a book. That's delayed gratification. Instant gratification because delayed gratification means you're working for something that's going to be happening in the future, right? You know that if you wake up two hours early, you will eventually become the person that you want to become. You will eventually get the success that you want, right? That's delayed gratification. Instant gratification is hitting the snooze button. That's instant gratification, but you don't want instant gratification. Not in the long run. Believe me, I know how great it feels to hit the snooze button
Starting point is 00:07:03 because right after you hit the snooze button, that is the most comfortable you will ever be in your entire life. Right? Why, why, why is it so freaking comfortable as soon as you hit the snooze button? And you roll over and you're like, ah, like you like melt into your bed. It's the most comfortable you'll ever be. Delayed gratification is going to the gym every single day knowing that it's going to take six months or a year to get the body that you want. Sometimes even more instant gratification is skipping the gym to take a nap. Instant gratification is pulling over to the side of the road and having that barbecue when you really know you should be having a salad, right? That's the
Starting point is 00:07:37 difference between instant gratification and delayed gratification for the things that you want, the things that are meaningful, the things that take time, even relationships, delayed gratification, right? You have to realize that you need to stop focusing on instant gratification for the most important things in your life. You need to focus on delayed gratification. If you want to watch a movie, yo, instant gratification, Netflix that jam, go for it, who cares? But if you want success, if you want money, if you want happiness, if you want the body that you want, if you want the relationship you want, if you want the help that you want, that is requiring, those are all requiring instant, I'm sorry, they're all requiring delayed gratification.
Starting point is 00:08:18 So as you're going through this and you're listening to this and you're going through your day, think, am I being lazy? Am I being a procrastinator? Am I putting this off because I'm not wanting to have delayed gratification? Maybe I'm just wanting to go straight for that instant gratification. And if you are going for the instant gratification, and you know you should be going for the delayed gratification, maybe take a step back and say, all right, Rob, it's time to put the work in and just put your head down and go for it. The delayed gratification will make a great life. Remember that and remember that through each day.
Starting point is 00:08:52 So once again, if you're wanting to join in on the group and the over 2000 people that are going to be in the group, there's going to be probably over three, four or 5,000 by the time that we launch in just a couple of days. So the group is already open. I'm already going live in it. I'm already teaching stuff. I'm already posting in it. But the five day challenge in the group is March 5th through March 4th.
