I will send that to you absolutely free to help you have a great week. Today, we're going to be talking about the fact that we have all
Starting point is 00:01:05 been brainwashed our entire lives without us even knowing it. So, is it possible for your subconscious to be programmed and you not be completely aware of it? Is it possible? Think about that for a second. And does that idea scare you? Would it make you pay more attention to your surroundings if you knew that at most moments in your life, you are being programmed by someone or something outside of you? Well, let's dive into it. Let's talk about it. There was a study that was done by Yale not too long ago, where what would happen is they would have a participant come in and they were coming in to take a quiz. It was like a quiz. They gave him a piece of paper and on this piece of paper, it had a story about a guy. And then they gave them a quiz about the guy and what they thought
Starting point is 00:02:00 about the story. For both sets, you know, group A and group B, they had the exact same situation. They had the exact same story. They had the exact same quiz. There was one variable between the two of them. One group of people was given a hot cup of coffee to hold, and one group of people was given a cold cup of coffee to hold. And so what happened was this was the study. The researcher would go out and meet them outside of the building. They would walk them into the elevator and inside of the elevator, they would say, hey, can you hold my coffee real quick? I need to tie my shoe. So they would hand them either a hot cup of coffee or a cold cup of coffee. And then they would tie their shoe. And then what they would do is they would say, thank you. They would take their cup of coffee back and then they would be on the level that they were at. And then they
Starting point is 00:02:46 would go back and do exactly the same thing. They would read this story, take the quiz. So the only difference was one group of people was given the hot cup of coffee in this situation. And one group of people was given a cold cup of coffee. They were holding this cup of coffee for about 15 seconds at most. And here's what's crazy. It's the exact same story. It's the exact same quiz after. The people who were given the cold cup of coffee said the character in the story seemed less social, more cold, and more selfish. The people who were given the hot cup of coffee said that the person in the story seemed like they were more trustworthy and somebody who they feel like they could be more around in a social setting. Think about that for a second.
Starting point is 00:03:32 The exact same story, the exact same quiz. The only difference is people were given a hot cup of coffee or cold cup of coffee. In that 15 second, at most holding on to either hot or cold changed their perception of somebody in a story a couple minutes later. It's crazy if you think about it, right? So something that is that small can change your perception of the world. And then you start to think about, man, that's such a small, minute, super, I mean, hot or cold coffee for 15 seconds, that's it? What else is in my life that could be swaying me to think differently? I'll give you another example of how this works as well. When you walk into a
Starting point is 00:04:11 grocery store, almost every single grocery store, one of the very first thing that you see are what? Flowers and fruit. So it smells good, it looks pretty, and it's very nice. I've never walked into a grocery store and immediately all of the dead animals and the flesh is right there. They don't have the deli and they don't have all that stuff right in front. No, when you walk into a grocery store, they want you to think that stuff is fresh and that it's beautiful because that makes you feel as if everything in the store is more fresh. They never, ever put the butcher first thing when you walk in. Think about that. Why is that? There's reasons for these things. There was another study that
Starting point is 00:04:52 was done and they had a group of people that came in, in school, and they had them, the actual thing they had them do is they showed them a brick, like a normal red brick. And they said, hey, they had them do is they showed them a brick, like a normal red brick. And they said, hey, how many things, how many uses can you come up with that are different than what a brick is used for? Like for building or for smashing a window, all of that stuff. What other uses can you come up with? Now, there's only the difference between the two groups is this. They were both given a red brick. They both had to come up with uses. But one of the groups was shown the Apple symbol a couple times when they walked in. Apple, there's a symbol on the door. They saw the Apple symbol, Apple the company. They had Apple products that they were using. They had Apple that they showed on the
Starting point is 00:05:36 projector when they showed the red brick, all of this stuff. Just an Apple product. That's the logo, nothing else. There's no ads for logos. There's nothing. They just saw the logo multiple times. The other set of people saw the IBM logo. They saw the IBM logo when they walked in. They saw the IBM products and computers that they had. They saw the IBM logo. And the people who saw the Apple logo came up with three times more uses for a red brick outside of what it's typically used for than the people who saw the IBM logo. Why do the researchers think this is? IBM is very traditional. They don't think outside of the box. They're not known as an innovative company. Apple, on the other hand, is known as a very innovative company. They do things differently. They think differently. Their whole motto is basically think differently, right? And so people were able to have more ideas simply from seeing
Starting point is 00:06:31 an Apple logo multiple times. And then you think to yourself, oh my God, how many advertisements do I see on a daily basis? It could be swaying me. The average person in America, the average American sees 4,000 to 10,000 ads a day. And you got to think to yourself, if an Apple logo or an IBM logo can change the way that someone thinks and feels, is it possible that my surroundings, the ads that I'm seeing are changing the way that I'm thinking and the way that I'm feeling as well? The answer is yes, just so you know. So you start to think to yourself, oh my God, this is crazy. Because what happens in your brain is your brain tends to have like groupings of things. And so when they see an Apple logo, they might think innovative. They might think,
Starting point is 00:07:13 oh, I love my Apple products. I love the way that the packaging is. I love opening Apple products, all of that stuff. And so your brain tends to batch things together. So Apple, love it. Amazing. Awesome. IBM, you might think, boring, not a whole lot going on. Don't really know what they do. Are they still around? All of that stuff. And your brain batches different things in your brain to kind of keep them cohesive. So then you also think to yourself, oh my God, it's advertisements. How are advertisements made? Advertisements are made most of the time. Just so you guys know, if you want to see a whole documentary on how this shifted in the fifties, the forties and the the 50s, go ahead and see a documentary. It's long, super long.
Starting point is 00:07:49 It's called The Century of Self, where they actually talk about how psychologists, one psychologist specifically came in. And before the 50s, the 40s, all of that, advertisements were made from the viewpoint of things that people need. Like you need this lawnmower and here's all of the reasons why. It cuts grass, saves you time, da-da-da-da-da-da-da. And it gave you all of the reasons why you needed this thing. Advertisements, once they started getting psychologists and psychologists and neurobiologists and understanding how people worked, they switched from need to want. And that is where the idea of all of this consumerism came from. How do they do that? They exploit human psychological weaknesses. Ads are made,
Starting point is 00:08:34 majority of them, by psychologists that are in these advertising companies to make you feel like you're not enough. Now, are all of them this way? No, absolutely not. There's some ads that are great. But if you feel like you're not enough, then you're going to think to yourself, well, I won't be good enough until I get this ad. Advertisers tend to know this, and they tend to exploit your weaknesses. And with all the recent changes in the automotive industry, it's difficult to keep up with, and it's even harder to figure out what changes mean for you. Now you guys can be like, oh shit, Rob uses ads inside of his podcast. Hey, it happens. That's how we keep this thing running. So it's like there's going to be advertisements everywhere. It's just the way that it goes. It's the way that things
Starting point is 00:11:49 work. But you can ask yourself, okay, do I want to listen to this or do I want to skip ahead in this? Do I want to be here and in this area where I'm seeing all these advertisements or do I want to get rid of these advertisements? Do I want to spend time on Instagram where I'm constantly getting hit by ads? TikTok, all of it's constantly getting hit by ads. Facebook, constantly getting hit by ads. Do I want to subscribe to YouTube premium so therefore I can skip all of the ads? There's options out there so that you can get past these things. And you start to think about that. What about the ads that I'm listening to? What about the ads I'm being exposed to? What about the stuff that you watch on TV? Have you ever thought about
Starting point is 00:12:20 that for instance? There's one show that we were watching. Some of you guys may have seen this before. I think it was called 13 Reasons Why. We called it the Tortured Kid Show. It was so bad. It was a show that was, I mean, it was hard to stop watching. But I noticed that I would feel worse about myself every single night after watching that show. And I was like, I got to stop watching this. Because literally it's about these kids that are going through crazy and crazy, crazy things in high school. And my fiance and I literally called it the tortured kids show. We're like, we got to stop watching the tortured kids show. It's called 13 Reasons Why.
Starting point is 00:12:54 I noticed I felt differently after watching it. Are you watching shows where people are constantly fighting? You know, there's a lot of people like, you know what? I love to watch shows where it's reality shows. And it's, you know, this one thing that I love to do. You've got to ask yourself, if people are constantly yelling at each other and bickering and back and forth, do you think that that's probably programming you in some sort of way to possibly be different? Yeah, it is. And it's going to change the way that you speak to people. It's going to change the way that you think about people. You got to start thinking about what you're watching. You got to start
Starting point is 00:13:28 thinking about what you're reading. You got to start thinking about the people that you hang out with. How are the people that you spend the most time with programming you? Right? I used to have a friend and I talk about this all the time. I still, I mean, he's still my friend. I just don't see him quite as much. He lives in a different state than I do. He always talked about how broke he was. Always, always, always, always, always. And I never felt better after hanging out with him. I always felt like, God, things are so bad. It's so hard. It's such a struggle in life. I was actually with him one time when he had a full-on panic attack inside of a bar. And it was his very first panic attack that he ever had. But he always talked about how he was
Starting point is 00:14:02 broke. And he always looked at the negative side of things. And I realized, I love the guy. He's been one of my friends for a really long time, like really, really long time, over 20 years. But for some reason, I feel worse after hanging out with him. Man, what am I supposed to do? I've tried to help him. He doesn't seem like he wants help. Well, maybe I should spend a little bit less time with him. It doesn't mean I have to not be friends with somebody. It's be like, Hey, you suck. Goodbye. That doesn't have to happen. But you got to start thinking about the people that you spend the most time with. How are they programming you? How are you programming them? What about the people that you follow on Instagram? How is your, how are the people that you're following on
Starting point is 00:14:39 Instagram making you feel? How's it programming you? I did a clean out. I call it the great purge. I do a great purge usually a few times a year where I go through my entire Instagram and I just unfollow a ton of people. Two weeks ago, I unfollowed 164 people because I was like, nope, I don't like the way that I feel when I'm watching this person's stories. Oh, this person's constantly talking about politics and what this is wrong and how this is screwed up and this and this and this. I don't feel good after I look at their stories. I got to stop following them. And I've literally gone through and stopped following people who I don't feel good after watching their stories. And I'm like, you know what? My mental capacity is very limited throughout the day. I don't want to be
Starting point is 00:15:19 using any of my mental capacity for something that is not positive and helping me feel better about myself, help me feel better about the world, and help me take action towards making it a better world. So if you're following someone who's talking about cars and houses and money, does that motivate you? Cool. If it motivates you to create a better life, do it. Does it make you feel like you're not enough? Does it make you feel like you're where you should be? Does it make you feel like shit? Well, maybe they're not a good person to follow anymore. Ladies, do you follow women who have better bodies than you and they look prettier than you and they have a better style than you? Does that motivate you? If it does, cool, continue to follow
Starting point is 00:15:57 them. Or do you look at their photos and you're like, why don't I look like her? I look like shit. Why am I so, you know, my butt doesn't look like hers. I don't fit in these jeans. You know, if it motivates you, follow those people, continue to follow them. But if it makes you feel like shit, if it makes you feel like you're not enough, hey, can you stop following those people and realize that it's better for your mental capacity to not follow some people? So can you do your own great purge? What about the music that you listen to? Do you aspire to be like the people that you're listening to? Do you aspire to be like the person that is saying the lyrics? You ever listen to some of the lyrics and you're like, oh, yeah, I don't think I would ever say this outside of my car.
Starting point is 00:16:36 Probably not the best person to program you. Probably not the best song to listen to. You've got to start to think about that. Do you keep something on in the background at all times? For me, in my house, if you walk into my house, YouTube is always, almost always playing in my house with people that inspire me, people that I've been listening to for years. Because I want to, you know, sometimes I'll be working in my office and I'll go into the kitchen and right next to the kitchen, we have a kitchen that opens up to the dining room that opens the living room. It's an open space. And I can see the TV from the kitchen. And I'll just have Jim Rohn playing. I'll have Gary Vee playing sometimes. I'll have Ram Dass playing. I'll have Mooji playing. I'll have Alan Watts playing. I have people who try to expand my consciousness in some sort of way or motivate me to be better. Sometimes I have videos of different athletes
Starting point is 00:17:22 being interviewed about their greatness and all that type of stuff, because I want to walk into my kitchen. And when I get it, you know, walk in there and I'm in my kitchen for 45 seconds, I want those 45 seconds to be impacted by someone who can, who can literally start to change my life. This is something I've honestly, if you want to know, we started doing on my YouTube channel, where if you don't follow me on YouTube, you can. In the past two weeks, we've uploaded over 45, we've uploaded nine videos that are over 45 minutes long so that you can literally, if you want to do this, one of them is even three hours and 21 minutes. We've been uploading these. So if you want to literally turn me on on your
Starting point is 00:17:56 YouTube and just keep it playing all day long in the background, you can literally just keep me playing all day long in the background. So if you want to, you know, have the exact same situation where maybe you're working in your office and you come out of your office and you happen to hear me playing in the background, or if you want to turn it on and just keep me on repeat, whatever it is you want to do, you can do that. We've made it specifically so that if you want to do the same thing that I do with my mentors, with the people that I look up to, if you want to do that for you to help you program yourself, hopefully, I hope that I'm programming you in a good way. So hopefully that's the case. But in the past two weeks, we've uploaded nine videos that are over 45 minutes long. One of them, like I said, three hours and 21 minutes.
Starting point is 00:18:35 That's called how to achieve success faster. If you just go to YouTube and type in Rob Dial, you'll see all of them. And therefore, you know, you can turn it on and just keep it on repeat. If you subscribe to my channel, it'll tell you every single time that I put up a video or putting up videos three, four times a week. And so the idea is I want to be able to help you program yourself in the way that you want to be programmed because I am very, very specific with what information comes into my brain. So if you want to follow me on YouTube, you definitely can. But start thinking about that, the music that you listen to, the people that you're hanging out with, the people that you follow on Instagram, the ads that you're getting hit with, the people that you surround yourself with,
Starting point is 00:19:11 the people that you work with, people that are closest to you, people that you go and get lunch with. Think about every single person that's in your vicinity, every single thing that's in your vicinity, every single way that you go to work, all of those things, and start to ask yourself, are these programming me to be the person that I want to be, or are these hindering me in some sort of way? Because every single thing that's happening to you is programming you in some sort of way. Whether you realize it or not, if a cup of coffee, hot or cold, held for 15 seconds, can make somebody feel differently about a person that they're about to read a story, seconds can make somebody feel differently about a person that they're about to read a story,
Starting point is 00:19:50 I guarantee you everything that you see here, everyone that you hang out with, everything is programming you in some sort of way. But you've got to ask yourself, is it programming me in the way that I want to be programmed to create the future that I want? So that's what I got for you for today's episode. If you love this episode, please do me a massive, massive favor right now. Take out your phone for 15 seconds, however you're listening to this, and give this podcast a rating and review. The reason why is because we are able to be found more organically. The more positive reviews that we get, the more that they show this to other people who don't listen to it, and it helps us be found and more people's lives be impacted. So if you want to pay it forward for all of the
Starting point is 00:20:25 podcasts you've listened to and any impact that we might've had in your life, I would greatly, greatly appreciate it. If you would go and give a rating review, it would help more, like way more than you actually imagined that it could. So if you would do that, I would greatly, greatly appreciate from the bottom of my heart to give us a rating review. And with that, I'm going to leave the same way I leave you every single episode, make it your mission to make someone else's day better. I appreciate you and I hope that you have an amazing day.
