Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor podcast. I am your host Rob Dial and if you have not yet done so hit that subscribe button so that you never ever miss another podcast episode. Today we're going to be talking about the heroes and not just the heroes that you would think of during this coronavirus and everything that's happening. I'm going to talk just the heroes that you would think of during this coronavirus and everything that's happening. I want to talk about the heroes that you, I would have never expected them to come out as heroes until this all happened. And I think that, you know, we do need to show appreciation to the heroes that are out there. And they're not just the people that you would think would be the heroes. So, you know, there are doctors and nurses and people working in hospitals that are risking their lives for everybody that's out there. And they 100% need our support.
Starting point is 00:00:48 They need us however we can show up, whether that's just dropping off cookies and, you know, leaving them at the front door. That's so, you know, people can get them as soon as they walk into work or walk out of work or go and pick them up. So therefore you don't, you know, you can have social distancing in some sort of way. If you happen to be on the way back from the grocery store, you know, there's people like the first responders, the EMTs, the paramedics, the firefighters, the cops that are out there that are still, you know, out there doing their job just normal. My, you know, my brother-in-law is a firefighter and, you know, he's been around people that have the coronavirus. Like that's part of his job, putting himself in danger. And all of those people 100% need our support. But I'm actually going to talk about other people as well that you might not have even
Starting point is 00:01:28 thought of that I think we really need to start supporting and being there for and showing our appreciation for. So nurses, doctors, people working at the hospitals, EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, cops, all of those. And I'm sure I'm forgetting some people, but there's definitely more people out there that we definitely need to see as heroes. But another group of people that I've slowly come to realize are almost like heroes in this sense is I was in Whole Foods the other day and I realized that there's nobody anywhere. I'm in Sedona for the time being. We were supposed to be leaving here
Starting point is 00:02:01 a couple of weeks ago. We decided to stay a couple extra weeks because, you know, Austin's basically shut down. And, um, and here we can still at least go hiking and distance ourself completely from people, but be able to get out. And, um, I was in the grocery store and it was the busiest place in the city. And I was like, Oh my God, the people who are working in the grocery store right now, uh, obviously they want to make money. They want to continue to make money so they can pay their bills, but they are 100% putting themselves in harm's way. And I thought about it and then I saw how some of the people treated them. And it made me really sad because I don't think, you know, people put any recognition to the fact that these people probably don't want to be at work right now. They probably don't want to be possibly catching the coronavirus
Starting point is 00:02:46 from someone who walks in. And they're putting themselves probably in more harm's way than almost anybody else except for, you know, the doctors and nurses that are dealing with the sick people. You know, and then here in Sedona, there's also takeout that's still available. I know in some cities there's takeout, some cities there's not takeout available. But every time I walk into go get takeout from a place, there's people that are working there that I've been seeing every day for the past two weeks,
Starting point is 00:03:08 working takeout, knowing that they're coming in contact with people who might get them sick. And I was like, man, these people at the grocery store, these people that are doing takeout, I had to get gas the other day. And so I had to go into the attendant and literally there was a person that was in there. And I thought these people, these are not people, these are not high paying jobs. These are mostly hourly workers. And some of them are getting treated like shit right now. Like, let's just put it the way, like, honestly, like some people don't treat them, which I think is terrible.
Starting point is 00:03:38 Well, in the first place. And then now some people are even more stressed out. They're more anxious and they go in and they treat these people who are putting themselves in harm's way for you to be able to get your food and they're treating them terribly. So I want you to think about this. How are you treating these people? You know, they're coming in contact with everyone.
Starting point is 00:03:57 What are you doing for them to show your appreciation? How are you showing up? You know, I'm not saying that you go ahead and give have to go and give them a back rub or anything like that. But sometimes people just need a really kind person to look them in the eye and say, hey, how is your day going so far? You know, not just, you know, when they're checking you out saying,
Starting point is 00:04:14 you know, how's your day been? Oh, mine's good. How about yours? Oh, it's been good. You know, that's a typical exchange. But like looking them in the eye and saying, hey, Jan, you know, looking at their name tag. Hey, Jan, you know, has it been tough?
Starting point is 00:04:24 How are you, how are you dealing with everything and actually caring about them as a person? How much appreciation have you shown for them? How much appreciation do you have for them? You know, when you're going in and you're, you're going into places where you could possibly tip somebody, let's, let's say that they're working as a, uh, at a restaurant where we know the restaurants are getting crushed right now. Like some of the restaurants I've been into here in Sedona, they're packed all the time. Now, every single person that's normally here, normally on vacation because it's a beautiful time of year,
Starting point is 00:04:57 they're not here. They're getting crushed. So they're making what? Two, three dollars an hour as a waiter, waitress. They're not getting tipped near as much as they normally do. Do you have an extra couple extra dollars that you could give them? One of the things I've been trying to do is trying to tip people, not trying. I have been tipping people more than I normally do because I know that it's not as easy for them right now. My business luckily has not dropped. It's actually grown a little bit. So I have money that I could give them and I'm okay with that. You know, do you have a little bit extra that you could give them as well? Now, if you're struggling, you don't have to do that, but you know, can you smile? Can you
Starting point is 00:05:34 look them in the eye? Can you appreciate them as a human and really acknowledge them? Are you tipping them more? What are you doing for others is really the main question. Are you FaceTiming your family members? You know, maybe you're not able to go out and see your family members because you're locked down. But maybe somebody would really appreciate a phone call from you. How are you supporting other people? Maybe there's that friend that you know. Here's the thing. If you're listening to this podcast, we're not a normal type of person.
Starting point is 00:06:03 We all drink the positivity Kool-Aid, right? We all work on ourselves. We all know that there's some people out there, some people it's a friend of yours, maybe it's a family member, maybe it's distant aunt, uncle, something like that, that they just never really have thought positive. And they might need just a lighthouse like you to show up. And send them a FaceTime. Get on the phone with them in the FaceTime.
Starting point is 00:06:25 Look them dead in the eye and say, hey, how are you? And then they start talking and then maybe they say they're scared and you're like, Hey, everything's going to be okay. And sometimes they just need someone to just say things are going to be okay. Can you FaceTime your family members? What are you doing for other people? Are you supporting them with the mindset that you have created from listening to this podcast or reading books and listening to other podcasts? Because here's the thing. The way you do one thing is the way you do everything.
Starting point is 00:06:52 You have a lot more free time on your hands, most likely. And if you're not doing something for people now, you probably don't do a whole lot for people normally in everyday life. Because the way you do one thing is the way you do everything. normally in everyday life. Because the way you do one thing is the way you do everything. So how can we use this virus in this downtime to show you and show me where we're not showing up right now? Let me say that again. How can you use the virus and how can you use the downtime to show us where we're not showing up in our lives, where we're not showing up for other people, how we're not being supportive? How can you come out of this a better person, right?
Starting point is 00:07:32 If you're not as supportive as you really truly want to be, how can you come out of this a better person and go, you know what? I am going to start working on my compassion and my empathy over the next two weeks of me being in lockdown. How can you use this to show you where you're not showing up? How can you come out of this a better person? How can you use this to change your actions? Think about that. As I've been saying in the past few episodes, this virus is showing us holes in every single system. And part of that system is you. Part of that system is me. Part of that system is me. Part of
Starting point is 00:08:05 that system is us as a community. How can we come out of this and go, you know what? Yeah, I am a little bit self-centered. I do spend too much time thinking about myself and not enough time thinking about others. I don't really go out and go out of my way when I go grocery shopping and do something for somebody else. Maybe I should use this downtime and this time of not being as busy as I normally am to ask myself, what are aspects of myself that I'd like to change? What are aspects of myself I'd like to work on, get better at? Think about that. If you really want to get dive deep into it and like think about it, get a pen and paper and ask yourself these questions and really start to answer them and journal them through. Who needs you around your community? You know, if you have like the next door app,
Starting point is 00:08:50 maybe one of your neighbors is sick and you could go, you know, run over to the grocery store because if your grocery stores are open, you can run over the grocery store, pick them up some groceries, drop it off at the front doorstep and don't even ask them for money. Just do something for someone, right? You know, the next door app where you can do something for your neighbors. How can you do something for them? You know, if, if you're, how else can you help your community? If your neighbor happened to have lost their job, you know, people are struggling. There's a lot of people that are really struggling right now. How can you, if you're in a better place, even if it's not an amazing place, but if you're in a decent place where you can help others, how can you go and help others and do something? Your community needs you
Starting point is 00:09:29 in some sort of way. How can you help people? Leaving food and water out for the, you know, I've seen pictures of people that are leaving food and water out for the stray dogs that aren't getting fed because there's not as many people walking around to give them food and there's not as much trash to go through that's just laying on the road. So I've been seeing people leave out food and water for the dogs. What about the homeless people in your community? They're definitely not being taken care of. If there's one-tenth of the amount of people out to zero percent, you know, if some of you guys are on full lockdown, these homeless people are not being taken care of right now, right? There's not, if there's, if you imagine that they're getting one-tenth of amount of money that they used to, because there's not as many people out because,
Starting point is 00:10:07 you know, 10% of people are now out doing things. That means that they're not feeding themselves as much. You know, can you go and get some extra groceries for them and be able to help them out in some sort of way, right? How can you help out your neighbors? How can you help out your community? How can you help out the animals? How can you, can you afford to buy some extra groceries and drop it off a neighbor's door? Can you afford to buy some extra groceries and hand them out to some homeless people? What can you do to help other people out? How can we use this virus to destroy our selfishness? I think this is a beautiful thing about the virus is it's showing us the holes. And it's starting to be a beautiful thing when you start to see that people are doing things for each other.
Starting point is 00:10:47 How can you be part of that? How can we as the mindset mentor community, it's not just me, it's us. How can we go out there and we also try to make a change in people's lives? Guys, it's time for us to step up. Now, I understand, but we need social distancing. We need to, you know, stay at home. We need to do these things. But when you do go out and get groceries, how can you help? You know, if you're, if you have a little bit extra money and you know that, that, you know, maybe one of
Starting point is 00:11:14 your friends has a car payment coming up and they're not delaying the car payment because maybe they have a terrible bank that they got the loan through, you know, can you throw them a few extra bucks and say, Hey, pay me back whenever you can. How can you step out and be there for people? That's one of the things that I think humans have lost, especially in the West, is being there as a community to help the people that are around us. How can you actively think about what you can do for others? Because if you're not doing it now, I promise you're not going to do it later. It's like people who always say, oh yeah, well, I'll start donating money when I become a millionaire. You know, when I become a millionaire, I'll definitely donate a hundred thousand dollars to the charity of my choice. You're going to donate, you know,
Starting point is 00:11:58 10% of your income. You won't, because if you won't give a dollar now, when you have 10, you won't give a hundred thousand when you have 10, you won't give a hundred thousand when you have a million. And so how can you start getting that muscle, that giving muscle to start giving out to people, start thinking about your community and how can we use this virus to show us that we need to be a better community. We need to be there more for the people. And what can you do to support those around you? So that's what I got for you for today's episode. If you liked this episode, please share with someone that you know and love. And for those of you guys that are out there, you're ready to make a massive change in your life. You're tired of doing the
Starting point is 00:12:34 same thing over. Maybe you're not passionate about the way you'd be living your life. Maybe you're not passionate about the job that you've had and you're looking to find more purpose in your life. Go ahead and go to join BOP stands for business on purpose. Go ahead and join BOP.com and check out the video that I put up there. I have a course in the first 200 people. Like I said, get 25% off of the course. I'm going to be teaching you how to find your purpose, how to work through that, and then how to turn that purpose into a paycheck. So that maybe on the outside of this, instead of wasting time watching Netflix, what if we were to spend this time working on ourselves?
Starting point is 00:13:07 So by the time that you're out of this quarantine or whatever you might happen to be on, you might even actually have a business that's running. So you don't even have to worry about going back to the job that you hate. So if you feel like you're not living a life of purpose, you don't have a business with purpose, go to joinbop.com.
Starting point is 00:13:23 I would love to coach you through. There's a video on that page that explains every aspect of it. I would love to coach you to build a business and a life based on purpose. But I'm going to leave you the same way I leave you every single episode. Make it your mission. Make someone else's day better. I appreciate you and I hope that you have an amazing day.
