Welcome back.
Today what we're going to be talking about are the three steps,
the three keys to hitting your New Year's resolution goals.
And this is something that I shared in the Facebook Live a couple days ago.
But the three keys to hitting your New Year's resolution goal or any goal
is what I'm going to give you
today. So we're going to go over the three. If you have a pen and paper, please pull it out.
You're going to want it today. Definitely take notes on this. If you're driving, please don't
take any notes, but listen to it whenever you get to the office or when you get home,
whatever that might be and take some notes. So the three steps are this. Number one is to clarify
your goals. See, most people set goals or set New Year's
resolutions, whatever it might be. And what they say is, oh, I want to make more money.
I want to lose weight. I want to be happier. I want to be healthier. All of these different
things. But that really isn't a goal that's clarified. To say that I want to make more
money. What is that? $1 more than you made last year?
What exactly do you mean by make more money?
You have to become extremely clear on it.
If you say, I wanna make $100,000 this year,
well, that is more clear.
You can take that goal and you can actually figure out,
okay, what do I have to do every single week
or every single month in order to hit that goal?
You need to clarify exactly what it is that you want.
If you say, I want to be healthier, that is not a goal that is clarified either. You need to know exactly the
weight you want to be, the body fat that you want to be. You need to take the picture of the person
who has the body that you want, and you need to print it out and put it inside of your closet.
So you see it every single day or put it inside of your mirror in your bathroom. So you see it every single day.
You need to clarify what you want to say that you want to have better relationships.
That doesn't make sense.
What, what, what would make your relationships better?
What aspects of your relationships do you want better?
You need to become extremely clear on exactly what it is that you want.
The more clear that you become on exactly what it is that you want, the more likely
you are that you're going to hit your goal. If you've heard me talk about setting your GPS
every single day, that means waking up and knowing what needs to be done each and every day because
you know your destination, you know the goals that you're shooting for. If you were to get into your
car, I could get in my car. I live in Austin and say, take me to Houston.
My GPS will take me to Houston.
But if I'm going to go to my friend's house in Houston, I have to put the exact address
of his house in order to get to his place in Houston.
I'm not just going to put in the address for Houston.
Just say, take me to Houston and expect that I'm going to arrive.
And that's how most people deal with their goals.
If they set any goals, period, they're very vague. Like, Hey, take me to Houston. That's not going to
get me to his house. There's 5 million people live in Houston. But if I say, take me to this exact
address, my GPS is going to take me to that exact address. And that's why you need to clarify
because the more clear that you are with your goals, the more likely you are to hit your goals.
It's like when you buy a new car, you start seeing that car.
Everyone.
The reason why is because your mind has now fixated on that car.
Well, your mind will fixate on the goals.
Once you know exactly what your goals are and the more that you can get your mind to fixate on the goals, the more likely you are to be able to hit them.
So you need to become extremely, extremely clear
on what you want in your goals or your resolution.
So that's the first step is to clarify your goals.
Number two, extremely, extremely simple, but so profound.
If you notice at the beginning of this episode,
I said, write this down, get a pen and paper if you have it.
Step number two of hitting your goals is to write them down. Harvard did a
study about 40 years ago. They found out that only 3% of the people who actually were in school as
their students wrote down their goals. 30 years later, they went through the entire test group
of what they had. And those 3% of the students who wrote down their goals on a piece of paper were 10 times more
successful than the other 97% combined. What does that tell you? You need to write your goals down
with a pen and paper, not put them on your computer, not put them on your cell phone.
And the reason why is because if I put my goals on the computer, I can't physically hold my goals,
right? I can physically hold a computer, but it's not tangible
in the world. When I write it down, your brain makes a real connection that this exists in the
world. I can physically hold that piece of paper or that notebook that that piece of paper is in.
Your brain makes a real connection of this is real. This exists in the world. Now I can go for
it. So you need to write down your goals. So number one is
to clarify your goals. Number two is to write them down. And number three, you've heard me say this
millions and millions of times before, but have you actually done it? And that is this. Know your
why. Why is that your goal? If it's just to make more money, if it's just to make $100,000,
you're going to hit a point where that
is not going to motivate you. If you're just wanting to buy new things, that's motivating
for a little while, but you're going to hit a point where it's not as motivating for you.
But if you can develop a strong emotional attachment, a strong why as to why that is your
goal, you are more likely to hit it. If your goal is to make $100,000 this year
because you wanna buy a new car, you might hit it.
But if your goal is to make $100,000 this year
because you wanna take your kids out of the apartment
in the bad part of town that you live in
and you wanna buy them a house
so they can get into a good school district,
that is a much stronger why
than just making $100,000 to buy a car.
If you can get a strong emotional attachment to it.
Maybe you have the goal of your mother's never traveled outside of the United States before
and you want to take her somewhere if you hit that $100,000 for the year.
That's a strong emotional attachment.
I know a couple years ago, I took my mom to Italy and she had never left the country.
That was a huge accomplishment for me because I always wanted to be able to do that for my mom after all of the things that she did for me.
That was a strong emotional attachment, a strong why for me to make a certain amount of money that
year, to be able to pay the money to go over for two weeks and take my mom there and pay for
everything. So it needs to be the exact same for you. What is your why? What is your strong
emotional attachment that's going to make you get up? And it's going to make you, when you fail,
when things get tough or you're tired, it's going to make you get out of bed and keep pushing
forward. It's going to be your motivation. Motivation doesn't just come. Motivation is
made. It's drive by being so driven for something that you want that nothing's going to stop you.
That's what you going to stop you.
That's what you have to work for. That's what you have to think about all the time.
So the three steps, the three, three simple, simple steps is to clarify, become extremely clear on exactly what it is that you want. If you want to make more money, how much is it? If you
want to lose weight, how much weight do you want to lose? What do you want your body fat to be at?
What do you want to look like? You need to know these. You need to become extremely clear. You
cannot hit a target that you cannot see. Number two is to write your goals down on a piece of
paper and better yet, put it everywhere. So you always are reminded of your goals. Some people
put their goals down and then they don't see it for the next 12 months. Write your goals down and
put them everywhere. So you see them all over the place. You're constantly reminded of your goals. And number three is your why have that strong emotional
attachment to it. Because if you have that strong emotional attachment to it and you write down
your goals and put them everywhere, you're going to feel that emotion and get that drive,
that motivation every single time that you see it. So I hope that you love this episode. If you
would please do me a favor,
if you're listening to my voice right now, if you would take the time to share this,
our podcast would double in size within one day. I put out tons and tons of stuff and try to put

but I need your help. Are you playing your part in sharing this podcast with somebody? So if you've ever gotten a piece
of value from me and what I've said, if you would do me a favor and share this with just one person
