Welcome to the MWF Motivation Podcast, one of the top-rated motivational podcasts in
the world.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I come out with a short, to-the-point, no-BS podcast
designed to transform you from who you are today into who you want to be.
There's no fluff here, just life-changing content.
My name is Rob Dial, and the podcast starts now.
Welcome to today's episode.
If you have not yet done so, please hit the subscribe button.
And also, if you have not yet signed up for my group coaching,
and that is something that you want to do,
to give you an idea of what group coaching is,
it's over 40 hours of video lessons
on how to take your life from where it is right now
to where you want it to be.
There's mindset stuff, there's motivation stuff,
there's a lot of how to make more money,
the psychology of money,
there's how to get past your paradigm,
there's how to be happier, how to be more successful,
all of that stuff that is inside of it.
And obviously the podcast is between 5 to 15 minutes. These lessons are between 45 minutes, actually about 25 minutes for some of them, all the way up to an hour and 45 minutes
of in-depth lessons. So if that sounds like something that you need, you like the podcast,
but you want a little more, send me an email, rob at mwfmotivation.com. I'll send you all of
the information. You can check it
out and see if it's for you. So today what I'm going to be talking about is I'm coming to you
just so you know, I'm coming to you live from Dubai. And today what I'm going to be talking
about is how to be happier. Very simple, simple thing. This shouldn't take too long this episode,
but it's a quick reminder. And I wanted to,
you know, I've been traveling a lot and I realized like the other day we had an 18 hour travel day where we went from, you know, we had to wake up at 4.30 and we didn't get to our destination
until the next day. We got up at 4.30 AM, didn't get to our destination until like two o'clock
that time zone. So it was, it took a long, long time to 2am. So it was
4.30am to 2am basically. Um, and it was like 18 hours or 20 hours. I don't even remember. I tried
to block it from my head, but with that much traveling, traveling is great. I love traveling.
It's amazing. I'll never complain about it. But when you're doing all of that traveling and you're
going from one place to another, to another, to another, to another, it starts to take a toll on you. And you kind of really forget to just be happy, just to be happy.
And you may have heard me talk about this before, just to be happy for no reason.
But one of the things that I realized that I do when I'm going through something that I'm just
like, damn, I really don't want to be here right now. I really don't want to do this. I wish I was
doing something else. We all have those moments where we feel that way. And one of the things that I do is I do this. It's super simple. I force myself to smile
as much as I possibly can. And then I remind myself what I'm grateful for. So, excuse me.
So what I do, when I was traveling, I was like, oh my gosh, I can't believe we got to do this again.
We had a four and a half hour layover. And during that four and a half hour layover,
we had to switch from one airport in that city to another airport in that city. So we had to drive,
you know, get out, go through customs, get out and do all of that stuff, do passport check,
all of that, get into an Uber, go to the other airport, go through all of the customs,
passport check, all of those things again, and then wait there for our plane. And so as this is all going on, you're just like, man, I wish I was at my
destination because obviously that's the main thing that you wish. And I noticed I was starting
to fall off of that cliff of, oh God, this is so ridiculous. Why am I, this is not, I wish I was
just there already, blah, blah, blah. I wish, I wish, I wish. And I wasn't being present. And in
the present moment, nothing was wrong. I was just moving my, blah, blah, blah. I wish, I wish, I wish. And I wasn't being present. And in the present moment, nothing was wrong.
I was just moving my body from one place to another.
And so I thought to myself, okay, I need to pause for a second and make myself happy for
no reason.
And so what I did was I forced myself to smile.
I was looking out the window of the Uber and I was forcing myself to smile just for no
reason.
And this is scientifically proven that just forcing yourself to smile just for no reason. And this is scientifically proven that just
forcing yourself to smile will release dopamine in your brain, which is the happy drug, the happy
chemical in your brain. It will release dopamine in your brain by smiling. And so I forced myself
to smile. And as I was watching all of the things pass and the billboards and wasn't in a beautiful
place or anything, I asked myself, what can I be grateful for in this moment?
So step one, you smile and you smile a lot.
And if anybody sees you, who cares?
They're going to think you're crazy,
but you'll probably never see them ever again
the rest of your life.
Like, that's the thing.
If you're getting judged by people,
you'll probably never see 99.9% of them ever again.
If you're just out, you're getting judged
by some random person, who cares?
It doesn't matter.
So I thought to myself, I'm going to smile. I'm going to look out this window and I'm going to find everything that I possibly can be grateful for. So if you woke up today, if you're
driving to work and you're like, God, I really just don't want to go to work today. It's Monday
or whatever day it is. I don't want to go to work. I wish I was still sleeping. I wish, I wish, I wish,
I want, I want, you know, part of the problem, part of the problem with most people is resistance that they have.
The unhappiness that they have
is the resistance for what actually is.
The unhappiness that they have in the moment
is resistance for what actually is.
What do I mean by that?
If you're unhappy in this moment
while you're driving to work,
it's because you're resisting
because of the fact that you actually have to go to work.
You're resisting for what actually is.
That's not gonna make you happy by doing so. So if you're having to go to work to pay the bills in this moment, if you haven't been able to follow your dreams yet, no big deal. It's okay.
How can you make yourself happy while you're doing this? If you're sitting in your cubicle
listening to this and you're like, man, I just really hate my job. Force yourself to smile right
now and then ask yourself what you could be grateful
for. Anything, the smallest things. And force yourself to get really good at becoming grateful
for little teeny tiny things. Maybe it's raining outside. Oh, I could be grateful for the rain
outside because it makes it a little bit cooler. I'm grateful for the rain outside because it makes
it greener so the plants can live. And if the plants live, guess what? I get oxygen because
they're putting oxygen down into the air. All of the trees are taking the CO2. They're filtering
it. They're giving me oxygen. I can be alive, right? That's something to be grateful for.
It's sunny outside. You could be grateful for the sun. You could be grateful for anything that you
want to be grateful for. The music that's playing in your car. If you find stuff that you could be
grateful for that's very, very little, believe me, your life starts to change because you start to
become very, very grateful for the things that are bigger, the people believe me, your life starts to change because you start to become very,
very grateful for the things that are bigger, the people that are in your life,
the fact that you have food and water and shelter and clothing and people that are around you that
you love, all of these things, right? So two steps to just make yourself be happier. Number one,
force yourself to throw a freaking smile on your face. That's number one. And number two,
find as much that you can be grateful for. And what you'll start to notice is it's almost immediate for me,
at least, because I've been doing this for so long. You just start to become happier in the
moment. And what you realize is being sad or miserable or pissed off seems like an automatic
response for people. And that's okay. We feel like in this, in our society, it's okay to be pissed off because, oh yeah, you have to go to work today. Yeah, I get it. You're
pissed off. Of course you are. Right. That's, that's like a normal thing. People are like,
oh, you having a bad day today? Why'd you have a bad day? Oh, because this happened. This happened.
Oh yeah, man. Me too. I understand. I completely get it. Right. It's okay. Quote unquote,
you can't see my air quotes. It's okay for you to be pissed off in our society
But that's a bunch of bs
You should be happier be happy for no reason if you could be pissed off for no reason
Why can't you be happy for no reason right? It requires the same amount of energy
Force yourself to smile force your brain to release that dopamine
Force yourself to smile and ask yourself. What can I be grateful for right now?
Real quick episode just wanted to give you a secret of what can I be grateful for right now? Real quick episode,
just wanted to give you a secret of what makes me happier in the moment when I force myself to be
present and stop resisting what actually is. Resisting the fact that I was traveling, I had
to travel. It's just the way that it goes. My body had to move from one place to another.
If I was thinking about wanting to already be there, I was resisting what actually is. And
that's where unhappiness and sadness and misery comes from is from resisting what actually is in the universe.
So with that, two things, like I said, force yourself to smile. Super simple. And number two,
find stuff you can be grateful for. So if you liked this episode, if you know someone
