Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast. I am your host, Rob Dial,
and if you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so that you never miss another
episode. Today, I'm going to be talking about how to build a powerful and empowering morning
routine. And here's what I'm going to tell you. I'm going
to give you a lot of different examples that you can use. And I want you to listen to all of these
different examples and to get a pen and paper and say, which one, like which ones actually stir
something up inside of me and make me go, you know what? Yeah, I should definitely do this.
I should do this and I should do this. And what I want you to do is write down the ones that you feel would be the most empowering and the most powerful for you in your morning. And then what I
want you to do is come up with a plan of how long it would take to do it. So if there's three things,
each thing would take 10 minutes. You need to wake up 30 minutes earlier and you need to do this.
And I want you to come up with a plan of exactly how you're going to do it because I'm going to
throw a lot of different things at you. I want you to build your morning routine because what you want in
your morning is not the same thing that I want in my morning or any of the other listeners here as
well. So let's dive into it. You want to have a morning routine that makes you feel powerful.
One thing that I have found is that most humans forget that we are animals. Like we forget
we actually come from living, like we used to live outside a hundred thousand years ago. Like
our ancestors lived outside. We are part of nature. We are animalistic by nature. We still
have different parts of us that are animalistic. Like we are from nature. And so we forget that
animalistic side of us. And it's usually really good to wake that animalistic side nature. And so we forget that animalistic side of us.
And it's usually really good to wake that animalistic side up.
And I'm going to talk to you guys about how to be able to do that.
Ultimately, the best way to change your life is to change your morning.
Because if you have a really great morning, usually you're going to have a really good day.
If you have a really crappy morning, usually it's going to carry over and give you a crappy day. Or at least it's going to start to mess up the rest of the day. If you have a really crappy morning, usually it's going to carry over and give you a crappy day
or at least it's going to start to mess up the rest of the day. And so the point of having a
morning routine is to be intentional. That's the key to everything here, being intentional. I like
to call it being proactive with your life versus just being reactive with your life. I think that if every single person
in the world had a 30-minute morning routine that made them feel empowered, the world would be a way
better place. And the reason why is because people would be working at what it is that they want.
They'd be working towards their dreams. They would quit the jobs that they hate. They would
follow their passions. They would be better parents. And it's about being proactive versus being reactive. Now, I have been reactive before. I used to wake up
15 minutes before I had to go to my job. I would take a really quick shower. I'd brush my teeth.
I'd make some coffee. I'd hop in the car and I'd run off and usually get some breakfast tacos on
the way to work. And that was it. That was what my morning routine consisted of. And I didn't know why I was slowly slipping into a depression. And I just didn't feel right. And so it's about being proactive and making your day your sacred time for you to work on yourself and for you to empower yourself and develop some sort of routine of self-love.
up some sort of routine of self-love. And my really good friend, Hal Elrod, if you want to learn a little bit more about the thing that he has called The Miracle Morning, he wrote a book
called The Miracle Morning. They've sold over 2 million copies, self-published. I'll put a link
down in the show notes. If you guys want to go ahead and buy it, you could definitely buy it.
I recommend getting the book. It's called The Miracle Morning by Hal Elrod. But he says there's
six different things that you can hit.
I'm going to tell you those six, but I'm also going to give you some more because there's some other things that I've found.
And so the six things are this.
It's SAVERS, S-A-V-E-R-S.
So just to make it easier, it's an acronym.
S stands for silence.
A stands for affirmations.
V stands for visualization.
E stands for exercise. R stands for reading.
And the last S stands for scribe, aka journaling, because he needed to have an S in there instead of a J because saver J probably would have made a whole lot of sense. So savers, S-A-V-E-R-S,
silence, affirmations, visualization, exercise, reading, and scribing, aka journaling.
And so which one of those really pop off?
What are you excited about?
Are you excited about silence, which is aka meditation, sitting there for 10 or 15 minutes,
eyes open, eyes closed, and just existing?
A, affirmations.
Are you excited to go and talk to yourself in the mirror? Look
at yourself in the eyes and say, I am beautiful. I am powerful. I am whatever it is. And start with
I am and look yourself deep in the eyes and say, I love you. I love you. I love you. Whatever it
is that you need to say that is empowering to you. What type of affirmations can you come up with?
empowering to you. What type of affirmations can you come up with? Start with I am statements. I am blank. Come up with three of them. Just three I am statements. Make them simple and say them 50
times to yourself each. It'll take you maybe three minutes, four minutes to do this. Most people use
affirmations, but they don't have a mirror routine. And I would make sure that you have a mirror
routine where you sit there and you say these things, look yourself dead in the eye because
people feel really awkward when they're talking to themselves because they haven't been taught
to build themselves up. They've only been taught how to build them, how to break themselves down.
So you look yourself dead in the eye and you say, I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you.
And you do it slowly and you mean it. And it's more like, I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you. And you do it slowly and you mean it. And it's more like, I love you. I love you. And you put some meaning into it. You look yourself deep in
the eyes. Have you ever done that before? I remember, and people always ask like why I have
a lot of confidence in. And I think the only reason why is because I brainwashed myself
14, 13, 14 years ago, where I remember I was at a conference where somebody said,
say, I love you to yourself a hundred times in the mirror every single morning and your life
will change. And I did that for like six months and I completely forgot about it. And I haven't
done it since, but I slowly just started believing in myself because I literally had this connection
of like, you can, you, you MF, or you can do anything that you want to in this fricking world.
And I'm here to support you. And we're going to do whatever it is that we need to do. And it just built this confidence in me,
right? You can do the same. There's no difference between you and I. You just got to put this into
practice. So A is the affirmations. Have I am statements. I would stick with no more than three
in the beginning. Don't have a million of them and make them empowering to yourself. V is
visualization. Sit there and visualize the future,
the life, everything that you want. E is exercise. Get some form of movement, whether that's yoga,
whether that's stretching, whether that's going for a walk, whether that's high intensity interval
training, whether that's, you know, going for a run, whatever exercise looks like to you,
you know, it could be as intense as you want it to be, or it could be as chill as you want it to be. This is your morning routine, right? R is reading. Do you want to read
five pages every single morning? Is that just a commitment that you're going to make to yourself?
Five pages, 10 pages? I would say instead of making a allotted, you know, allotting amount
of time where it's saying, okay, I'm going to take 15 minutes to read. I would just give yourself
an amount of pages. I'm going to read five pages every single morning. I'm going to read 10 pages every single morning. And if you do that,
you'll notice that you're cranking through at least one book a month, right? And you could do
that. So that's the R. And then scribing S is journaling, writing down what you're grateful for,
writing down what you have to work on for the day, writing down what your goals are for the next week,
for the next month, for the next year, for the next 10 years.
Imagine if you just did a few of those every single morning, what your life would come out to be.
And it's about having a consistent morning routine. Find out where it works for you.
Maybe this works, maybe that doesn't work. And you find out what works and you start to use it,
you start to put that into your life. Next thing that I highly recommend,
most of you guys are going to hate me for saying it, but trust me when I tell you this, take a cold shower every single morning.
And some of you guys are like, oh, that sounds kind of challenge. That sounds fun. And some of you are like, hell no, I am not taking a freaking cold shower. I'm telling you right now, if you
want to change your life, take a cold shower every single day for a week. Don't turn it hot. And
you'll realize that you don't need a cup of coffee in turn it hot and you'll realize that you don't need a cup
of coffee in the morning and you'll realize that you feel a hundred times better because number one,
you feel like you accomplished something because you turned off that little voice inside of your
head. You accomplished something and you dominated that little voice. And number two, when you take
a cold shower, man, you feel like you are on fricking top of the world. I'm not crazy. Google the benefits
of cold showers. I don't have time to talk to you about them, but believe me, there's a ton of
benefits of cold showers, mentally, physically, emotionally, all of those things. I recommend you
take a cold shower. This is why, you know, when I do the Iron Mind 60, for 60 days straight, we have
to literally take a cold shower. And the reason why
is because if you're trying to build an iron mind, if you're trying to build a mindset that
no one else can conquer, that you were in charge of to take on the world, you have to be able to
shut that little voice up inside of your head that says, you're not good enough. You're not
smart enough. You're not pretty enough. You can't do that. And the way that you do that is by
dominating that little voice inside of your head. First thing in the morning, you eat that frog is what they call it. You eat the frog. The one thing
that you don't want to do, you do it because you are proving to yourself that you can do it.
I'm telling you, if you take a cold shower, you will be so surprised. Take a cold shower and don't
make it hot at the end. You will be so surprised. If you can do, start off at 30 seconds, start off at 60 seconds. If you could do three minutes of a cold shower, you will be on top of the world.
What else goes along with that?
You got to have a shower playlist, bro.
Like you got to have a shower playlist.
Like I've got my shower playlist.
Let me tell you the first song that pops up.
If I'm going to hop into a cold shower, I've got to have something that I want to move
to that I want to dance to that makes me feel really good. What is it? I'm going to try to brainwash
myself in the morning of how I want to feel. And so what's the very first song that sets the tone
of my day that I listened to when I'm hopping in that cold shower? Happy by Pharrell Williams.
Why? Because you cannot listen. I challenge you to hop into a cold shower, put that song on and
try to be miserable. Try to have a
terrible, terrible day after that. And so literally if I'm trying to have a beautiful, joyous, happy
day, I'm going to brainwash myself by the music that I listened to as well. So not the things that
I read. I mean, all of this is part of it, but not only the things that I read, not only the exercise,
not only the visualization, not only the affirmations, but the music. Because when you have that song, happy stuck in your head, you're singing it over
and over and over and over and over again throughout the day. Guess what? You're basically,
music is affirmations. Music is just affirmations. So when you're saying something,
because I'm happy, and you're singing in your head over and over and over and over again,
guess what? It's impossible to have a really shitty day while you're singing that song in your head all day long,
right? What's the song that comes after that song? Don't worry, be happy. Dude, try to listen to
those two songs and not feel amazing when you get out, right? And then put on whatever songs that
you feel that you really want that make you feel amazing, that make you happy, that make you feel the way that you want to feel, whether that's a
dancing song, whether that's a happy song, a beautiful song. I'm using the music in the
morning in the showers to actually brainwash me and make me happier throughout the day.
So what's your playlist? Come up with your shower playlist. And then you get
out of the shower and what do you do? You freaking dance. No shame. Shut the door shut. Dance around
naked inside of your kitchen. You can do that if you want to, I guess. Hopefully there's no one
else home. I'm at your bathroom. Dance around naked inside of your bathroom. There's nobody else
around. I mean, if you want to do it in the kitchen, just make sure you don't, you know,
obviously, make sure you're not cooking any bacon and you don't have any bacon grease flying around
if you'd be dancing around naked in a kitchen. But I completely did not mean to say that. That's
hilarious. But dance around. There's proof that when you jump up and down, jumping up and down has a ton of different benefits besides just
raising your heart rate. It actually, you know, I don't need to dive too much into it, but it
flushes your lymphatic system. So if you have chronic illnesses, if you have thyroid imbalances,
if you have a weak immune system, if you have sinus congestion, if you have headaches, if you
have constant fatigue, if you have poor circulation, if you have allergies, any of those things, jumping up and
down. Put one song on. Put on Happy by Pharrell Williams and the entire song, just jump up and
down. Do it. Look yourself in the mirror and freaking smile and jump and smile and jump and
smile and jump. And hopefully you don't get hit by anything that's flopping around while you're
naked, but just do it. Just trust me. I swear to God, you'll do it and go, oh my God,
this actually works. Like that crazy guy that talks into the mic and said, I should dance around
naked in my kitchen when he met the bathroom. He was right. So jumping up and down. So you have
a cold shower. You have the music playlist that you're listening to that makes you happy. You have
looking at yourself in the mirror and smiling while you're dancing up and down for three and a half minutes and it makes you feel better. And then what you do
is you figure out, okay, I'm an animal. We know that we're animals in some sort of way. If you
look at my background on my phone right now, I'm looking at it. It is literally the fiercest
looking picture of a tiger looking dead into my eyes. Why? Because I'm trying to remind myself
that I am freaking unstoppable because what's going to stop a tiger that wants to get something?
Absolutely nothing. You think you're going to stop a tiger that wants to go after something
and go for the kill? Absolutely not. So why am I doing this? Because I'm trying to remind myself
every time I look at the background of my phone, I can literally see this tiger looking dead into the camera's eyes. Like I'm going to freaking
eat you, dude. And I want to have that mentality of whatever it is in my life, whatever it is I'm
trying to create, I'm going to create and nothing is going to stop me because I have the mentality
of a tiger right now. I have a mentality of a lion. I have a mentality of a jaguar,
whatever it is. What is your, you know, your quote unquote spirit animal,
the animal that you're like, yeah, that's me. Right. I said this to you. This was a few months
ago. I said this in a podcast episode, and I guess I just said it in passing and I wasn't
really paying attention. And then I, I love looking at my Instagram stories when you guys tag me in Instagram stories
because I start to see the quotes that I say.
And I'm like, oh my God, I didn't even know I said that, but I love that.
But one of the things that I had said was act like you're a jaguar, right?
When you're about to walk into a room where you don't know anybody, you can walk in there,
you know, kind of,
you know, walking in slow and hopefully nobody sees you and hopefully they don't talk to you.
And maybe they notice you, maybe they don't notice you. And my mindset is if I'm going to walk into a room, I'm going to break that fricking door down, you know, figuratively in my mind, I'm going
to be like, move the hell out of the way, everybody be ready for me as I walk in. And I said, walk into the room like you're a Jaguar. I said, uh, and what was quoted over and over and over like, move the hell out of the way, everybody. Be ready for me as I walk in. And I said, walk into the room like you're a Jaguar. And I said, and what was quoted over and over and over
again is don't walk into the room like unconfident or anything like that. Walk into the room like a
Jaguar because a Jaguar will not walk into the room like a bitch. A Jaguar will walk into the
room and be like, everybody better watch out. That's just the way it's got to be.
Everybody better watch out because I'm coming through. So what is your spirit animal? Maybe
you're more gracious. Maybe you're more beautiful. Maybe you're a butterfly. Maybe you're a owl.
Maybe you're going through massive transition in your life and maybe you just got to have a
really bad relationship or maybe you got out of a long marriage that's been abusive or something
like that and you're relating to a butterfly right now and you got to put a beautiful butterfly in the
back of your phone because you're going through this transition and though it's ugly right now,
just like a caterpillar can be, you're going to come out beautiful on the other side.
Do you notice how even the background of my phone is set to brainwash myself from the moment I wake
up? It's what I see when I turn my
alarm off. I see it whenever I check the time. I see it multiple times, probably 40, 50 times a day.
The music that I'm listening to, the things I say to myself, the shower is used to do that.
Every single thing is intricately planned in my life to help me be more powerful and create the life that I want to. And
it all starts with my morning routine. When do you drink your coffee? Well, it's been proven that if
you want to really have the best effects from coffee, wait until an hour after you wake up.
Now, some of you guys are like, no way. There's absolutely no way. I'm just telling you,
you can Google it, look into it. The reason why is because then your body has stopped making
melatonin. There's issues with melatonin and caffeine at the same time. You can read about it. I don't have
time to talk about it, but usually an hour after is when it's the best. If you're trying to skip
coffee or you're trying to get off of coffee or you, listen, I absolutely freaking love coffee.
Like everybody knows to get me a gift, you get me coffee stuff. But what I would recommend,
I'm going to give you my secret, my secret sauce.
I don't drink coffee anymore.
And the reason why is because
I've found something that's better.
You ready?
You coffee drinkers, turn me up a little bit.
Make sure you turn this up to 10 so you don't miss this.
It's called Yerba Mate.
Y-E-R-B-A space M-A-T-E.
Yerba Mate, you can get it on Amazon. It's like $11 for a pound of organic
Yerba Mate tea. Now, I don't drink Yerba Mate just by itself because it can taste kind of funky
sometimes. I make Yerba Mate, which has as much caffeine as coffee does. But instead of dehydrating
you, it actually hydrates you. And yerba mate is considered
one of the most nutritious plants in the world. So you actually get more nutrients into your body.
And here's my secret sauce, everybody. I have perfected the perfect morning coffee takeover
drink. It's yerba mate with oat milk. Yes, oat milk. O-A-T, milk. Oat milk, cinnamon, and stevia. Everybody
who's had it, I have transitioned them off of coffee. And everyone drinks it and they're like,
oh my God, this tastes so freaking good. I love coffee. It tastes 10 times better than coffee.
And I'm the type of person who will have two, sometimes three cups of coffee in a day.
Usually I try to stay between one and two, but sometimes I go up there, right? Yerba Mate,
oat milk, stevia, and cinnamon. I just let my secret out to the world. Go ahead and buy stock
in Yerba Mate because I'm telling you it's about to explode. As soon as you guys have it, you will
go, holy crap, this is incredible. And then when you realize, the other reason why yerba mate is
really good is because coffee gives you a big spike. And then what happens? Around 12 o'clock,
11 o'clock, what do you need? You need another cup of coffee. Why? Because there's a massive drop
after the caffeine gets flushed through your system. Yerba mate, the way that it's processed
by your liver, it actually takes about five to six hours for it to drop down.
So you have a huge spike the same way you do with coffee, but instead of a huge drop,
it takes a lot longer, about four hours longer for that to come down. So it slowly comes down
versus a big drop. You're welcome. I just changed your life. Another thing that will really help you
out as well, if you want to turn the melatonin off in your brain, for those of you guys like,
I don't know if I can wait an hour after I wake up in the morning. If you go and
look at the blue in the sky, the blue in the sky sets the receptors in your brain. It tells the
receptors in your brain to stop making melatonin. Melatonin is what makes you tired, makes you fall
asleep. And usually your brain has to, that's why when you, when it's a really gloomy day outside,
you tend to be tired the entire day, is because your brain
is not getting the cue from the blue in the sky to stop making melatonin. So if you go outside
and you literally, if you can get sun on your skin, it helps a lot more as well because you
have photoreceptors on your skin and those photoreceptors basically go, oh, the sun is out.
And it's also really good for setting your circadian cycle. Don't need to get into all this.
Once again, this is a whole other path I could go down really, really deeply.
But look at the sky.
Don't look at the sun.
Look at the blue in the sky for 60 seconds, 120 seconds, two minutes.
Just look at the blue in the sky.
It will tell your brain, the receptors in your eyes will tell your brain to stop making
melatonin.
You'll wake up quicker.
You'll stop being as tired. Then when you have the coffee an hour later, or if you're really listening in the yerba mate an hour later, boom, you're freaking on fire. Especially if you
just dance naked in your cold shower to the song happy. And then you looked yourself in the, you
know, dance around for a minute after three minutes after looked yourself in the mirror.
And then you went up to yourself and you're like, I love you. I love you. I love you. You look down at your phone screen.
You're like, yeah, that's right. I am a freaking tiger. I'm a badass. I'm amazing. You did your
workouts. You did your reading, your visualizations, your affirmations, your journaling, all of those
things. Do those and tell me that you didn't just have the best freaking morning of your life.
So I threw a lot at you. Listen to this again. Take notes. Try it out.
Figure out what it is that you want and start to figure out what works for you so that you can be
proactive versus reactive in your life. Because if you're proactive and you do a morning routine
that's semi-similar to this in some sort of way, you will leave your house being like, holy crap, that
podcast guy was right. I promise you this. Give it a shot. Find out what works for you. Once you do,
make a routine, basically a checklist. Check off each and everything until you have a routine that's
set into your system, that's set with you. And I promise you, if you do that, you will have the most incredible morning,
the most incredible day. And if you can start your morning off right every single day,
you're going to set your life off right as well. So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
If you love this episode, please share it with someone that you know and someone that you love.
