Starting point is 00:02:59 We're going to be talking about worrying. We're going to talk about replacing your worry with action. Okay. And, and, you know, I'm going to ask you a question. I want you to answer it out loud to yourself. No one else is around. Answer it out loud. Do you feel like you worry too much? Think about that. Do you feel like you worry too much? Do you feel like sometimes you, you spend too much time worrying and not enough time doing? Do you ever feel like sometimes you make ghosts that never actually show up, right? Do you ever feel like you worry about things that never happen? You know, there was a study I was reading not too long ago that said the average
Starting point is 00:03:33 person, 85% of the stuff that they worry about never actually happens, right? So you have to realize worry only happens in your brain. The number one most energy consuming thing that your body does is think. And so if you're using your most energy consuming organ to think about something that doesn't even actually happen, doesn't that seem like a massive waste to you? That seems like a waste to me. You only have a finite amount of energy throughout the day and you're using it on something that never even actually ever happens. You know, think about that for a second. Just, just think about how many times you've built up these ghosts in your head. And then when something happens that you've built up, you've been worrying about,
Starting point is 00:04:19 it happens. And you're like, man, that was not even close to as bad as I thought it was going to be. and you're like, man, that was not even close to as bad as I thought it was going to be. Has that ever happened to you? Think about how often that happens to you. Worry has never done anything for you. Never once have I ever heard someone go, you know what? I'm really glad that I worried so much. I'm so glad I worried about that situation. I've never heard somebody, you know, get on top of a podium and accept an award. And they say, you know what? I'd like to say something. You know, I want to thank God. I want to thank my mom. And you know, I want to thank worry because I, because worrying really got me on this podium. No, it, no one ever thanks worry because worrying has never done anything for you. You lose energy from worrying. And so what I'm talking about today
Starting point is 00:05:01 is to replace your worry with action. When you feel like you're starting to worry about something, the best thing to do is to get off your tail and freaking do something right now. Because what happens, what I've found, is that as your body starts, usually worry happens when we're sitting around. Worry happens when we're stagnant. Worry happens when we're on the couch, laying in bed. It rarely happens when you're out at the gym. It rarely happens when you're on a run, right?
Starting point is 00:05:32 Worry usually doesn't happen when you have an elevated heart rate. Worry happens when you're doing nothing. And so I don't care what the action is. But if you find yourself sitting around and worrying, the first thought that should come into your head is, I need to get my freaking butt off this couch. I need to get off of this chair. I need to go out and do something. I need to do some pushups. I need to do some pull-ups. I need to go
Starting point is 00:05:50 for a run. I need to create some sort of action. And obviously the first thing I say obviously is create action for getting up and doing a workout, whatever it is. But if possible, that's just if you're sitting around the house, but if possible, if you're worrying about something at work, you're worrying about going and giving a talk, or you're going to talk to some person, you're worrying about going and talking to somebody. The immediate thing that you should do is go and start walking towards that person. I remember when I was little, I used to worry a lot. I used to be really afraid of talking to people. I used to be afraid of doing things. And what I would always do if I was afraid of talking to somebody, I would just make myself, I would go one, two, three in my
Starting point is 00:06:35 head. And by three, I would just make myself say something. And usually what happened is, is I would start talking. And as I started talking, I would eventually get out the point that I needed to get out. And then it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be. But it's that first step that's always so hard for us. A good book on this, if you want to read more about it, is I think it's called The Five Second Rule by Mel Robbins, where she talks about how she realized what really helped her is she would count down from five. And so if you really want to do something, you go five, four, three, two, one, boom. And then you get up and do whatever it is, get up and do something. And she said she got inspired by it because the fact that she was watching the shuttle take off. And she's like, why don't I just like
Starting point is 00:07:21 pretend like, you know, on the shuttle, I'll just go five, four, three, two, one. And when I get to one, I have to take off. She started doing it. And then she's like, man don't I just pretend like, you know, on the shuttle, I'll just go five, four, three, two, one. And when I get to one, I have to take off. She started doing it. And then she's like, man, this is working. She was in some depression. She lost a bunch of money through her business and everything. And what happened was she actually realized that through doing this, she started getting things done. She's like, I want to know if there's any science behind this. Is there an actual science behind doing a countdown whenever you're worried about something. There's something in your brain that probably comes from, you know, your parents when they say, hey, don't make me get to zero. And they go three, two, one. And you're like,
Starting point is 00:07:54 oh crap, I got to go do something. You get up and do whatever the heck they told you they wanted you to do. That's kind of what I think that it is. It's just a part of your brain that tells you that you need to get up and actually start working. And next time that you feel like you have worry coming up, you know, you feel that feeling deep in the pit of your stomach, that worry feeling, just get up and move. Do whatever you can. Do something.
Starting point is 00:08:18 And the best phrase that I like to call, I like to talk about for this, you know, you always hear ready, aim, fire. I like to switch that one around. You know, you always hear ready, aim, fire. I like to switch that one around and it's ready, fire, aim. And you might've heard me talk about this before, but it's so easy if you think about this way. Ready, fire, aim. Get ready. You give yourself 30 seconds to think about whatever it is that you need to do. You fire, which means you immediately take action. And then after you take action, then you recalibrate and make it better. And the reason why you want to fire before you aim, not with a gun, but in this situation, is because if you spend too much time aiming, you'll never actually fire.
Starting point is 00:08:56 You know, how many times have you spent all of your time getting ready and planning and getting everything situated? And then you plan everything out. And the more you plan out, the more you become stressed out because you start thinking about everything that has to be done. And then you never actually fire, right? So the point behind this is you start to get ready, you fire, you take action immediately. And then after you take action, then you start to recalibrate. And the reason why you fire before you completely aim is so you at least fire versus doing nothing. Because all too often, we find ourselves not doing what we need to do because there's too many ghosts we've made up in
Starting point is 00:09:31 our head that never actually come into, they never actually manifest in real life. You know, how many ghosts have you made in your life that have kept you back from taking action and that not taking action has kept you back from the dreams that you want. Right? We're our own worst enemies. The only reason why you're not where you want to be is because of yourself. The only reason why I'm not where I want to be is because of myself. And that's why every single day I'm pushing myself, trying to get 1% better just a little bit, just a little bit, just a little bit to, you know, whenever I find fear, whenever I see something I'm afraid of, I try to go right at it.
Starting point is 00:10:01 It's not easy. I'm not perfect. You know, nobody's perfect. Nobody out there that's, you know, any sort of motivational guru or even Tony Robbins does everything perfect, right? We're all human. Anybody tells you that they're perfect and they've gotten past the mistakes, they're full of it. They are. Everyone's a human. There's times where everyone makes a mistake. But the point is to notice the mistakes, to recalibrate, to figure out what you can do next time and to get 1% better every single day so that you don't continue to make the
Starting point is 00:10:30 mistakes. You know, Einstein says to do the same thing over and over again and expect different results as insanity. Well, if you find yourself worrying too much and you hate that you're worrying so much, maybe you should figure out a way to stop worrying, right? Because what happens is you're worrying so much, maybe you should figure out a way to stop worrying, right? Because what happens is you start worrying and then you worry about the fact that you're worrying, right? And then you worry because you're worrying because you worry. So it's a vicious circle. And so the first step to get out of it is to just take action. Do some sort of action.
Starting point is 00:11:05 The first step is always the hardest. The journey to a thousand miles begins with a single step. But all you have to do is put your first foot in front of the other. And then once you get done with that one, then you put the next foot in front of the other. Part of the problem with us and thinking of success, the life we want or whatever it is, the money we want to make, all of those things is that we see the entire staircase and we go, oh my God, that staircase is huge. I'm never going to make it all the way up that staircase. That staircase is going to take me so long. Think about all the times I want to take a restroom break on that staircase. Think about all the things that are going to come flying down
Starting point is 00:11:35 that staircase to knock me over. But in reality, we don't need to look up the entire staircase. We need to look at our feet and go, okay, here's the first step. Boom. Okay. Here's the next step. Boom. All you need to do is just take action. What? And this is, this is the question that I ask everybody. I asked my group coaching mindset university. I asked my people that I work one-on-one with. I'll ask this many times in the iron mind challenge. What's the number one thing I can do right now, right? Make it as simple as possible. What's the number one thing I can do right now? Make it as simple as possible. What's the number one thing that I can do right now? Not what's the 10 things that I need to do right now. What is the number one thing I need to do right now? So if I'm stuck and I'm worrying
Starting point is 00:12:15 and I notice it, I'm like, I need to take action. I need to take action. I need to take action. What is the number one thing that I need to do right now? Okay, the number one thing I need to do right now is this. And then I make myself stand up out of the chair that I'm in and I start some sort of movement. So next time you find yourself caught in your head with all of the worry, take action. One really good thing that will help you a little side tip before I let you guys know, if you find yourself really stuck in your head, one thing that helps put everything that you're worrying about on a piece of paper and it kind of like your brain releases it and it goes, oh, well, I guess I don't really have much to think about anymore. Just try that one time. So next time you find yourself worrying,
Starting point is 00:12:55 the only thing I want you to do is find the first step. What is the number one thing I can do right now and put one foot in front of the other. So that's what I got for you guys today. Once again, if you're interested in joining the 206 of us so far, there's going to be a lot more that are in the Iron Mind 60 challenge. It's going to be so much fun. I'm so excited to be a part of this with everybody. And you really want to push yourself. You're tired of making excuses. This is the chance to do it. Once again, your brain will try to talk you out of everything. Your brain, anytime it sees change, it sees change as a threat. Threat, change is automatically seen as a threat to the brain.
Starting point is 00:13:28 But if there's a part of you, if there's your gut feeling on the inside that goes, oh, damn, this sounds scary, but I should probably do this because I know it. I know I need to do it. My heart's in it. My brain's telling me no, but my heart's telling me yes. Go to ironmind60.com, I-R-O-N-M-I-N-D-6-0.com. Sign up, join us. I would love to see you in there.
