So a lot of people ask me how to journal because I always talk about how journaling is the most important thing that I think you can do on a
Starting point is 00:00:52 daily basis for your personal growth because it develops self-awareness. You start noticing things about yourself that you love, things that you want to change. You start noticing a lot of different things about yourself when you journal. To this day, I've been journaling for 12 years and I still journal every single day. And I learn more and more about myself every single day. And it really helps me figure out who I am, but also at the same time, it helps me figure out where I'm going. And so if you're interested in learning how I journal, I actually put a mini course together that shows you the exact process that I've learned from really successful people, but also that I've learned from really successful people,
Starting point is 00:01:26 but also that I have learned from just doing it through trial and error over the years. So if you're interested in getting that absolutely free, all you have to do is go to dialedinjournal.com. So dial like my last name, E-D, so dialedinjournal.com and you can get it for free. Starting point is 00:01:59 Today, what I'm going to be talking about is how to get rid of your anxiety immediately. Immediately. You ready? Here's what I'm going to be talking about is how to get rid of your anxiety immediately. Immediately. You ready? Here's what I'm going to tell you about anxiety. Anxiety can paralyze you. Panic attacks can paralyze you. They can completely shut you down. They can hold you back from the person that you want to be. But let me give you a little tip into the mindset of what happens to your body and to your mind when you have anxiety. When you get anxious, when you get really anxious about something coming up, what happens? Your heart starts to beat really fast. The cortisol, which is the stress in your brain, actually raise.
Starting point is 00:02:38 The cortisol levels raise and your body starts to get ready for something that's about to happen. It doesn't know what it is. It just knows it needs to prepare. for something that's about to happen. It doesn't know what it is. It just knows it needs to prepare. Here's the crazy part about it. When you get excited, extremely excited about something, what happens? Your heart starts to beat really fast.
Starting point is 00:02:58 The cortisol levels in your brain raise and your body gets ready for something. It's just not sure what it is. Does that sound familiar to you? Here's the crazy thing. When you are going through anxiety and when you are excited about something, your body is doing the exact same thing. The exact same thing. So what do you do? You trick your brain into thinking you are excited when you are anxious. And I realize this sounds crazy. You're like, no, this is not possibly going to work. But in 2010, the University of Rochester did a study on this and found out that this is scientifically proven
Starting point is 00:03:35 to work on subjects. When somebody gets very anxious, what they have them do is they had them close their eyes and repeat to themselves over and over and over again. I am excited. I am excited. I am excited. I am excited. What did this do? It actually made them perform better than all of the other test subjects in their math tests. They scored better than everybody else. They also had people go and give a two-minute speech. The number one fear in the world is public speaking. They had them give a two-minute speech. The number one fear in the world is public speaking. They had them give a two-minute speech. The people who told themselves that they were excited before they actually went up and gave the speeches, they scored as more confident.
Starting point is 00:04:15 They talked longer than everybody else, longer than the two minutes that they were supposed to. And they rated more persuasive in their speech. So what does it show you? Well, in being extremely nervous before somebody went and did a test and before they went up and talked in front of somebody else, by telling themselves that they were excited when they thought that they were anxious, they actually performed better. Why is this?
Starting point is 00:04:38 Because our bodies will react the exact same way with anxiety as they will with excitement. But the secret is that we are in charge of the actual thoughts and the feelings that come from that, right? Our bodies react the same, but we're in charge of the feeling that we actually place on the way our bodies react. It's pretty crazy. This is how you can trick your body and trick your brain into thinking that you're excited when you're anxious.
Starting point is 00:05:14 So what happens, the secret, like I said, is we're in charge of the feelings that we place on the way our body reacts. And feelings come from thoughts. You control the thoughts that you attach the feelings and those feelings attached to the way your body feels. If this doesn't show you how crazy our minds actually are, not sure what else really will. You can trick your brain into actually thinking it is excited when it is anxious. So next time you start to feel your heart pump, next time you start to feel like stressed out, tell yourself, I'm excited. I'm excited. I'm
Starting point is 00:05:49 excited. This is something that is called anxiety reappraisal. You can Google it if you like to anxiety reappraisal. You're actually doing something in your brain by telling it exactly the feelings and the thoughts that you want it to have that attach to the feelings that are actually happening inside of your body. So that quick tip, whenever you feel anxiety, whenever you feel anxious, whenever you feel a panic attack, start to tell yourself, I am excited. I am excited. I am excited. And what will happen, because we all know that if you start thinking a thought and it's
Starting point is 00:06:24 a negative thought, if you start thinking a thought and it's a negative thought, if you start feeling anxiety and you think about that negative anxiety, you could tailspin and considerably make yourself worse and worse. But if you actually think about the right things and attach the right feelings and thoughts to it, you can change the way that you perform based on what you're telling your body you feel. So that is the quick tip for you. If you like this episode, please, please, please share it with someone that you know, someone that you love.
