Starting point is 00:01:34 book. Also, if you have not signed up for one of the last webinars that I'm going to be running on the Mindset Mastery, I'm going to be running one today, if you're listening on Wednesday, at 4pm Eastern. So make sure to join in. It is the July 27th. Go to mwfmotivation.com slash webinar. If it is past this date, that date when you're hearing, if it's past July 27th at 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, you can go to mwfmotivation.com slash webinar and see if there's any information on any other upcoming webinars. But they have been awesome. I've been teaching my five steps to mastering your mindset so that you can conquer your limiting beliefs, you can get past your fears, and you can make the future that you want. So if you have not yet signed up for it, go ahead and do so. And also the past two episodes,
Starting point is 00:02:31 for some reason, they've downloaded or they've uploaded really weird. They only uploaded the first one minute and three, the last minute, last one minute and three seconds. So if you were not able to listen to the last two episodes, you can now go back because they have been re-uploaded. For some reason, my uploading account, my Libsyn was not getting those correct. So if you did not hear, I'm going to be doing a lot of traveling in the next few months. Usually I do all of my speaking engagements or a lot of my speaking engagements and my travel during the fall and winter. So if your company has speaking engagements where you bring outside people and you want me to come in and give a speech, if I get hired to come in and
Starting point is 00:03:12 do that, I will take you out to coffee or lunch or dinner, whatever it is that we're able to do. So go to send me an email, rob at MWF motivation. We'll see if we can get something lined up. If your company wants to bring me in for speaking engagements, I'm going to be leaving this weekend for 20 hours. I'm going to fly up, give a two hour talk and then come right back. So if you are interested, go ahead and let me know. But today let's go ahead and dive in and I want you to take a deep breath with me. Ready? And the reason why is because we're going to be talking about patience today. Something that I did not have for a very long time and something that I feel that is a very, very valuable skill to be an entrepreneur or just to be successful period.
Starting point is 00:04:00 And most people don't have it anymore. And we all know that you can't plant a seed, water it, go to bed and wake up the next morning and expect a massive oak tree to be in your backyard. Just like you can't work out once, go home, drink a protein shake and wake up the next morning and be fit. No matter how great of a workout it was, no matter how much you water that seed over the eight hours that you're asleep, that's impossible. It's not gonna be done. So why, why, why do people get so impatient when they're wanting something that they want in their life? Like they're wanting something amazing in their life. Things that are amazing, things that are amazing, things that take a ton of work and effort, take a ton of time. But for some reason, people are just so impatient. They give up on things before their time to be
Starting point is 00:04:54 successful comes up. They give up on things because they feel like it's not going the way they want it to. You can't just do these things for a couple months. It drives me crazy to hear entrepreneurs that try something for three months and they're not making any money at it and they you can't just do these things for a couple months. It drives me crazy to hear entrepreneurs that try something for three months and they're not making any money at it and they quit. I'm like, of course you don't make money at it. If you broke even in your first three months, you're killing it. That's just the way that it works. You're not supposed to make money as an entrepreneur for at least a while, six months, a year, whatever it might be. And so what happens is they look around and they see the people that are so much further along them, all of these people that they compare to themselves. And they
Starting point is 00:05:30 get down on themselves because they aren't where they feel they should be. And listen, I'm a very competitive person. So what I'm about to say took a very long time to be okay with. The only person that you should be competing with is the person that you were yesterday. No one else. Now, for me, that was a very hard thing to get into my head. And for most people, if you're 27 years old, you can't look at Evan Spiegel, who's the founder of Snapchat, who's a 27-year-old billionaire, and get down on yourself because you're not as far along as he is. He's an anomaly. That's not normal. What you can do is you can look at your past and you can realize how far you have come. That's what you should do.
Starting point is 00:06:12 You should look backwards and go, you know what? I've actually done pretty well for myself. Compared to the way I used to be, compared to everything that I used to do, I'm a completely better person than I was six months ago, a year ago, six years ago. So the problem though is that most people look forward at where they want to be and they know they're not there and they get down on themselves. Or they look at other people around them that are way further ahead and they get frustrated that they're not where they want to be or that they're not where those other people are. And you can't compare yourself to others or you'll just get frustrated with the
Starting point is 00:06:47 fact that you're not where they are. You have to realize you can't compare yourself to anyone else. You can't expect to have everything that you want overnight. Just like you can't expect to be fit overnight or grow a massive oak tree overnight. Remember this, great things take time. They take patience. They take trial and error. They take failing. They take a lot of failing. One of my businesses, I'll give you a perfect example. One of my businesses that I own, not my main business, but one of my businesses, my goal was to hit $5,000 in passive income by my birthday, which was March 28th. And I didn't hit that. I didn't even get close to that by March 28th. So by the end of the March, my goal was to be at $5,000 in passive income. I was nowhere near
Starting point is 00:07:38 that. I was only at about $2,000 in passive income. And I made mistakes. And I sat down after each one of them and recalibrated and started planning again and saying, well, where do I want to go? What do I need to do? And what do I need to change? And this month, July, looks like if things finish up, I'm going to be very close, if not surpassing $10,000 in income this month in that same business. Now, think about that. I could have quit. I could have gotten down on myself. I could have tried something else. I could have realized that this wasn't for me. And I'm doing air quotes. You can't see it. But what I realized was that there were some
Starting point is 00:08:16 adjustments that I needed to make. And I meditated on it. I figured out what they were. And I made the adjustments and went from $2,000 a month in March to $10,000 a month in July. That's a big jump, but the big jump only happened because I didn't give up. The big jump happened because I failed and figured out how to make changes from my failure. And you can do the exact same thing, but you have to have patience. Most people don't have patience. If you put in a lot of work and you put in a lot of passion, it's sometimes just a waiting game until it eventually finally clicks and things start happening. And that's the way it works. That's how business works. Nobody's successful right away. It takes time. It's
Starting point is 00:09:02 like the universe is testing you to see if you really want it. So for instance, I wanted to be at $5,000 in income by the end of March and I wasn't. So it's kind of like the universe saying, well, hey, do you really want it? And I was like, hell yeah, I really want it. So what did I do? I worked at it and got it to five times what it was at the end of March. So that's what you have to realize is it's the way it works. It's something, if you believe in it, then you need to know that it's going to take time and your plan won't be perfect the first time. It will never be perfect the first time. You'll have to go out, go with plan A, plan one, make some adjustments once you fail, and then you'll have plan 1B and then fail again and you'll have plan 1C and you'll just again, and you'll have plan 1C,
Starting point is 00:09:45 and you'll just get a little bit further and a little bit further and so on. So you have to keep having patience. You have to keep watering your tree every day. You have to water your tree every day. You have to work out and do fitness and do your diet every day. You have to, same thing for yourself and your business. You have to work on it every day. You can't worry about mastering the next six months.
Starting point is 00:10:03 You just have to worry about mastering today. So you have to have patience. Keep watering your tree. And I'm going to give you two steps that are going to help you along the way in having patience. Step number one is stop comparing yourself to anyone else besides yourself, which I mentioned earlier. Stop comparing yourself to everyone else. The external world does not exist. The only thing that you could change is the internal world. So realize that the only person you need to compete with is a person in the mirror. That's it. So that's step number one. Step number two is recognize how far you've come. Most people look back in the past and all they see is failures. They don't look at their successes.
Starting point is 00:10:44 They forget their successes. And don't look at their successes. They forget their successes. And then they look into their future and say, man, that's really... They look at the present first off and they say, I'm not where I want to be. And then look at their future and go, man, that's really far away. So instead of doing all that, look behind you and recognize how far you've come. And here's the biggest thing that I would say. Most people, their paradigm is that they're not good enough. They're not smart enough. They're not able to have success. They're afraid of failure and all of these things. And one of the easiest ways to overcome that is to sit down and make a list of every accomplishment you've had in your life. Big accomplishment, small accomplishment. Win winning the third grade spelling bee could be on that list. Having children,
Starting point is 00:11:29 raising your children, right? All of these are buying a house, buying your first car, all of these making the basketball team in high school, all of these accomplishments. You want to write down everything that you've accomplished in your life so that when you start feeling like you're not enough, like you're not smart enough, that you're not good enough, that you're not going to get to where're not gonna get to where you wanna be, then you look at this list and go, damn, I've actually done pretty well. And that's how you start building your own confidence
Starting point is 00:11:53 is you look at the list that you've made because you have a lot more accomplishments than you realize. And some of you are out there and you're like, yeah, that's actually true. Some of you are out there going, I haven't done anything with my life. But you don't realize there are a lot of little things that you've done and accomplished.
Starting point is 00:12:08 So sit down. So number one is stop comparing yourself with anyone else but yourself. Number two is recognize and write down how far you've come. So with that, once again, there's going to be a webinar today. Go to mwfmotivation.com slash webinar to sign up for it.
