And as I mentioned last week, my Mindset University group coaching

the doors open, I can put you on a waiting list. So next time that the doors open, I can put you
into the group, the Mindset University to grow and help yourself

rob at mwfmotivation.com. But today's episode, I am very excited to bring to you because I've
been wanting to talk about how to make money online, but I have my own specific way that I
make money. But I wanted to bring on an expert, a friend who has been doing this for
years to teach you guys all of the different ways that there are to make money because there are
literally millions of different ways to make money. And I also wanted to have this conversation
to expand your mindset around what is possible because there's so many different ways to make
money that people don't even understand that they can take something they're passionate about
and make a full-time income doing that online. Maybe that's teaching that to somebody. Maybe that's playing
games and people watching. There's crazy amounts of ways to make money. And so I brought in my
friend Cavett. He's got a brand new book coming out called Don't Sleep On It. And it's going to
be out in just a few days. You guys can pre-order. We'll tell you all about it during this episode.
But I can't wait to bring it to you. If you have your notes, your pen and paper, get them ready because we're going to talk
about all of the different ways you can make money. And I have a pretty good idea that no matter what
it is that you're passionate about, no matter what it is that you do, you will get value from this.
And you're probably going to want that pen and paper because ideas are going to start flowing
through your head of how to make money. So without further ado, this is my friend, Kavit Haria.
flowing through your head of how to make money. So without further ado, this is my friend,
Kavit Haria. Welcome everybody to the show. I'm with my good friend, Kavit Haria. And we,
just so you guys have an idea of the way we met, we met through a friend, Jay Shetty. And Kavit has been doing marketing online for how long have you been marketing online?
More than 10 years.
So more than 10 years. And I'm excited to have you on the podcast because
the number one question that I get asked by people, which is probably the hardest
question to answer is, how do I make money online? Not me specifically, but they just go,
tell me ways to make money online. And if you start getting into it and you start figuring
out about how to make money online, there's literally millions of different ways to make money. And I'm super passionate about this subject because about five years ago,
I was making great money. I was doing well. And the only problem was I wasn't satisfied with my
lifestyle that I had. I didn't like going to an office. I didn't like my boss, all of those things.
And so I thought to myself, I need to start figuring out ways to make money online.
And I started Googling it. I started looking like Business Insider. I look at all of those things. And so I thought to myself, I need to start figuring out ways to make money online. And I started Googling it. I started looking like business insider. I look at all
of these different things. And I started going to a networking group, which is here in Austin,
which is called Internet Marketing Party and started meeting people who are making money
in different ways. And after learning, I kind of dove in and I said, this is the way that I
want to start making money and just try this out first. And the podcast was the first way and then started making money off of the podcast. So that's in my short story, the past couple of
years just for me. And now I've been able to obviously leave my job to travel the world.
My girlfriend and I traveled for the last six months internationally last year. And that was
the main goal is to be able to go out and travel. But I'm curious with you, if you could kind of
give the listeners your story,
how you got into it and where you are now. Yeah, sure. And thank you first for having me on the show. And thank you to everyone who's tuning in and listening. I think it's so great
that we met. And of course, we met through Jay. But I think that it's just been so nice to see
your videos and all the work you're doing on social media is really having an impact. I mean,
I saw some video of yours, I think just yesterday, which has like, what, 30 million views. That's
insane. Like the number of people that are being impacted by your creative thinking is just
incredible. So yeah, well done. So yeah, me, I mean, I basically have always wanted to play an
instrument. And as I grew up, I learned an instrument called the tabla. Now my grandparents
are from India, my parents are from Kenya, and I'm born in the uk so when i was born in the uk i was six months old my parents took me
to lagos nigeria where my dad has a timber business and i grew up for 11 years there and
the one thing that i would do there and my mom was very keen to keep us culturally connected was to
go and visit the temple and when we were in the temple i always used to see a bunch of musicians
obviously playing devotional music at that time and And there's this guy playing on the drums. And I was so intensely focused on what
he was doing. But I guess my mom recognized that I wanted to have tablet classes. And I started
having tablet classes. Now, as I came to the UK, and I continued learning and all that kind of
stuff. And I've always wanted to grow up to be a musician. At that time, what really struck me was
that here I was playing this Eastern music,
which we've only ever seen played in, you know, Eastern music. And yet I'm growing up listening to
pop and jazz and R&B and hip hop and reggae and all this like Western stuff. And I thought,
you know what, there's got to be a way for me to bring both things together. And today, of course,
like this is going back like 2002. But today, of course, you hear a lot of Eastern music within
some of the greatest hits that we hear in the charts these days so i've always been very keen
i was always very keen to do that and uh when i got to the point where i felt like i was ready
to perform with the world i went out to look for musicians and i went to you know say hey this is
the kind of concept i want to create and nobody wanted to play with me and the reason for that
was because i i used to think it was because of me.
And then very quickly, I realized that actually,
if you don't have promised gigs or recording opportunities
where cash is going to be made, essentially musicians going to make money,
if you don't have that, they're not going to spend the time working with you
because they've got to earn a job.
They've got to go to the day job.
They've got to have music.
Musicians are really, of course, starving artists. And it's really difficult to take and create art and make money if you're not business minded. And that's really the biggest struggle in the creative industry.
because he really helped me share my work with the world.
And he said to me, you know what?
Go get the gigs first, and then go find the musicians.
I said, well, how can I do that?
I mean, how can I sell a concept that's not even,
it's not like I can say, oh, you know what? I'm like that group because they make that kind of music.
Like, I'm trying to create something brand new.
And I'm saying, go get that kind of music.
Go get the gigs, he said, and then get the musicians.
And it worked, and it was really nice.
And I started to tour, and then I toured for three years
quite regularly across the UK, the Europe world uh even to africa for some time and i got i got on to some bigger stages
like the royal abba hall and i did some recording at abbey road studios and i played with like jimmy
page from led zeppelin really and it was it was fantastic it was just really amazing but obviously
when you have experiences like that people say hey how do you do that of course you must get that all
the time like how do you make such amazing videos, how do you do that? Of course, you must get that all the time.
How do you make such amazing videos and how do you write the script?
For me, I don't think it's the video.
I think it's the script that's like the really tough part.
So I'm sure you get stuff like that.
So for me, it was like, how do you sell your ideas as a musician?
How do you build that MySpace platform?
Because that's what it was big at that time.
And how do you get more gigs?
So I was really really really focused on sharing
some of that stuff with my friends and uh you know i had another friend who was creating his
ideas around you know curing your acne or your psoriasis or your sleep problems naturally and
he was selling his information in ebooks so i thought well look if mark can do that i can
definitely do that with what i know so i sat down once and you know at this point it's just before i went to university and i started to basically write about uh my ideas
i wrote a book called 49 ways to promote your music online and when i when i say a book i mean
i refer to it as a book but it's literally just a word document and i wrote down all my ideas
and i thought well you know let me just send this out to my friends because it'll be easier for me
to do that than for me to constantly sit with everybody and answer their questions.
And I'm doing it repetitively. So that went really well.
And, you know, to speed up the story, this is 2005. To speed up the story, within five months, I wrote five different e-books.
One was called How to Triple Your Gigs in 30 Days. Another one was called, you know, The Financial Independent Guide for Musicians.
Another one was How to Promote on Facebook, etc.
And I had all these different things that were selling online.
And I built up a database to about 10,000 people within five months
because I shared it all on forums and things like that.
And I knew I was onto something.
But I also, I guess for my own safety,
because I was at that point where I was thinking,
do I go to university or do I not?
And obviously, coming from an Indian family, it's really important to study it's really important
to get a very stable job yeah it's also important that if you want to do something different you
have something to fall back on that whole fall back on mindset and safety net type thing so I
went to university I didn't become a doctor or anything like that but I went to study genetics
for three years that was my degree and while I there, I was also building this thing out on the side.
And it was growing well.
So from 2005 to 2010, I basically built InsiderMusicBusiness.com.
We had 35 info products from CDs to DVDs to coaching programs, membership sites, etc.,
all helping 120,000 musicians in our database or sharing as much information as we could.
And I learned a lot of things during that process. I learned about the importance of the clarity of knowing who your customer is,
knowing what matters to them. I learned about empathy. I learned about copywriting. I learned
about marketing automation. I learned about a lot of things to make that business successful. It was
a lot of hard days, but a lot of fun. And the turning point came because I went to, you know,
I went to do this degree and tell me when to stop and when you want to chat.
But I went to do this degree and and I came back and now I was still at my parents house for a little while.
And I went to I got a job and I remember walking every day to the end of the road to catch the bus.
And the end of the road takes like five to seven minutes. And I would do that for one month.
And I would go to this job from, you know, obviously I work from nine to five, which means I'd have to leave earlier and get home later.
And this one day and it was like early winter.
And for some reason, two buses supposed to come on schedule didn't come.
And it was raining and it was windy.
And at that point, I thought this is like the fourth week of that job.
And I thought, you know what, I'm actually really enjoying what I'm doing with my music business.
I'm going to sit down.
I'm going to talk to my family.
I'm going to really try to make this work.
And I've actually made more money in that business than I am in this job that I'm having to sit in the rain and win.
And I know, I mean, these are first world problems.
But for me, it was like, this is not where my heart is.
So I came back.
I decided that I'm going to focus on this music business. did that for a few years and that's you know and it continued to
build and I got to this point and this is really interesting I don't know if you've ever been there
but I got to this point where I had shared every single thing I've I know about and have experienced
about getting more gigs selling more of your albums and getting more exposure and I always
come down to these three things because the recipe is that if if you get these three things you could quit your day job as a musician
if you know how to get more exposure sell more cds get more gigs you're on the way so i felt like
everything i knew and had experienced from my journey i had shared in in all forms of products
that i didn't want to create anything else and so i realized that i had to structure my business i
brought on three people we did all kinds of things from customer service to emails to fulfillment. And I had this automated online business and I went traveling for a year. And the reason I went traveling for a longer period of time was because I knew a want or something like that. And he is the creator of a company called CD Baby, which he's now sold and moved on.
But before he sold the company, he said, look, the true definition of an entrepreneur is somebody who can develop something, create something, systemize something, go away for an extended period of time, not having absolutely any contact with the business and the business still doing incredibly
well so uh to put it into practice of course he's got this big company in big warehouse in
portland oregon they ship out independent musicians cds just like amazon do for books
and other products they do it for cds for independent musicians and so he went traveling
for an entire year and he came back and the business was doing exactly the same and then
of course a couple years later he sold it for large sums of money um so i thought well if he could do that i could do that
so i wanted to go and i came back and you know the business is going really well and i decided
that it was time for something new so that's when around the time i started to do talks and
big big speeches at like marketing conferences business conferences four or five hundred people
here in the uk i talked about membership sites to talk about niching i talked about marketing automation and i was invited to do quite a bit
of consulting with regards to you know hey come into my business and show us how to sell our dance
classes online come into my business and show us how to you know sell more of our accountancy
services come into my business and show us how we can structure a sales funnel online and get more
people to buy you know courses or whatever it was and there was a lot of that and that experience that i gained from from doing consulting because of course i had done
my my own music business and at the end of the day every business is essentially the same there's
nothing that that much more different to many businesses as such in terms of how they're
structured how they sell but what i found was by working in like at least 20 different industries
i managed to create a lot of experience
that allowed me to go and say hey you know what i could run workshops on this so i started to do
workshops for a few years and i was very good at teaching and i found that that was an area that
was really important to me so i ran two workshops a year in new york sydney and london and i traveled
for three years and i taught these workshops and you know 20 people would come they'd pay
two thousand dollars and they'd they'd2,000 and they'd join the workshop
and they'd have an incredible experience
and then they'd go away.
And when I follow up with them six months later,
it's like they haven't really engaged
and pushed anything they learned
that they found fascinating and useful.
And it's typical, right?
You go to a conference, you make a whole load of notes
and as the days go by, the amount you apply decreases.
And so-
You slip back into your old routines, basically.
Yeah, exactly.
And I have this incredible music business.
It was doing very well still.
And I realized that I wasn't gaining the kind of fulfillment that I wanted to gain from this new venture.
So I stopped teaching altogether.
And this is 2013, where instead I said, there's got to be a better way of doing it.
Instead, I said, there's got to be a better way of doing it.
So I said, the reason people are struggling in the workshops is because they're spending all their time in implementation and tactics and which tools to use and how do I build a business and all that kind of stuff. Instead of putting all their energy and passion in spreading the word.
The definition of marketing is transferring passion from you to your customer about what it is that you do.
And so if you're completely deflated when it comes to marketing, you're not going to be able to give it your all.
So I thought, well, you know what?
Here's what I should do.
And so we created a team of people
that have been helping me in all of my business projects.
And we're now nine of us here.
And essentially we run a program
called Automated Business System.
And it's a 12-month process.
We take anybody who's an expert, a service provider,
a coach, a consultant, a speaker, a trainer, anyone who's got expert a service provider a coach a consultant a speaker a trainer anyone
who's got something to share basically um and we take them on a 12-month journey working through
their entire business strategy and then coming up with the product they want to sell online the
sales funnel then we implement everything for them so everything from design to copywriting
to sales funnel development to launching their business out on the web and then we hook them up
with our marketing coach alex and alex coaches them every single week of fortnight to help them
learn about paid advertising, social media, and content marketing. And we've been doing that since
2013 and probably taken on about 120 or 130 different clients and produced some amazing
results because we're holding them accountable and building quality partnerships for an entire
year as opposed to just a two-day event. And so i felt like you know i've been asked to write a book quite a lot of times but now i
really felt that you know hey i'm here now i feel like i've got enough proof to say that this is a
process that works for anyone that wants to take their idea and share it with the world and so
that's where you know i got to the point where of course this month i'm releasing don't sleep on it in my first book and it details this entire
process that anyone can take about their energy and their passion and share it
with the world and it's filled with lots of amazing stories to inspire and show
people how to how to get it done well so I think that's important I think that
that that I think what holds most people back is they think this you know this
there's so many different ways to make money online. I don't know how to do it, but everyone kind of, they don't realize how much knowledge
they actually have on a specific thing. Like there's most people that are listening to this
have really deep knowledge in something, but then they think I can't make any money doing that.
Like for instance, you, you learn to play and I'm, I'm a musician and I'm obsessed with music.
I've never heard of the, of the instrument that you said that you learned to play, but you were able to take that knowledge and the knowledge of going and learning
how to book, which is one of the hardest things to do because I've played live many times where
it's hard to get those bookings. It's hard to get paid money that's actually worth it and go out and
actually start making money off of teaching other people how to do that. And I think that a lot of
people out there have knowledge. There could be a plumber listening to this that might be able to teach
something to brand new plumbers to help it easier to get their certification. There's a lot of
different ways. The first person that comes into my head when I'm thinking about this is, what's
the guy that, oh man, the guy that started, I'm completely blanking on his name.
Not John Lee Dumas, but the other guy who has a huge podcast and he started off as a,
way he started making money online at first was that he was a engineer or something like that.
He had put up his, what's the, Will It Fly? What's the guy who wrote Will It Fly?
Oh, Pat Flynn.
Pat Flynn. Okay, Pat Flynn.
Smart Passive Income. That's what I was thinking.
That's his show.
And he started making money online because he took his notes when he got his certification for being an architect.
That's what it was.
And he put all of his notes online so that he could access it on his computer
no matter what computer he was at or where he was.
He could do it at school. He could do it at home.
He could access his notes.
And then a couple years down the road, he goes back to that website that he had
created, just this website that was just notes and realized that there were thousands of people
a day that were looking at this. And he thought, oh my gosh, I could probably sell this information
for people who are taking this certification, this big certification to become an architect.
And he started making thousands of dollars every single month. And so there's so many different ways to make money online with knowledge that people
already have inside of their heads that they don't know what they should do first. And they honestly
don't think that they can make money with that knowledge. You come across a lot of people that
feel that way, like, oh yeah, no, no one would want to learn what I know. Absolutely. Absolutely.
And yeah, I'd love to have a little rant about this but you know here's the thing everybody has something to share every single person has some incredible skill talent um
you know expertise experience understanding knowledge and everybody is at the point where
they can share it and here's what i mean by that because what we think is ordinary somebody else
thinks is amazing what we think think is secondary to us,
like where we can do it in our sleep, somebody else wants to know how to break through that barrier, break through that challenge. So absolutely. And the bigger encompassing word
for all of this is called fear. Like, I don't think I'm good enough. I don't think I'm there
yet. I don't have the right knowledge. I don't have the right technical know-how. I don't have the right idea. I need more help, et cetera. And the reality is that we actually just lack clarity.
It's not like we, none of those things are true. Like they're all just like a mirror or a facade
in front of you. The real truth is that we lack clarity. Like we don't know well enough who we
want to serve. We don't know well enough what matters to them. And we don't know well enough who we want to serve we don't know well enough what matters to them yeah
and we don't know well enough or we know too well our own fact and therefore we can't get it across
in in plain script in in writing what we want to share so i'll give you an example and i'll make
this let's make this really practical let's just say um i believe and you're you're a personal
development expert so you know this more than I do,
but I believe that every single one of us is at least going through two realities fleeting and hopping between two realities in our day-to-day life. The first one is the current reality. This
is where we are. This is what I feel. This is what I think. This is what I believe. The second one is
the ideal reality. This is where I want to go. This is what I want to experience. This is what
I want to think. This is what I want to behave like. This is where i want to go this is what i want to experience this is what i want to think this is what i want to behave like this is what i want to look like
whatever it is and we're constantly like we wake up and we're like oh this is where i am right now
and then very quickly we remember oh this is where i want to go so that's why i've got to do what i've
got to do and every single one of us like if someone wants to if you're selling information
to somebody who wants to lose weight they're currently in a place right now where they're feeling lethargic, overweight,
slow, depressed, maybe like lack of energy, et cetera. And where they want to go is actually,
I want to fit into that dress. I want to have the six pack. I want to feel, you know, I can look
great on the beach and feel confident. I'm eating healthy. I'm feeling fresher. I've not got any
spots on my face, whatever it is. That's the ideal world.
Now, the way we want to develop our faith in ourselves in order to launch a product online is to make sure we know with absolute clarity and made a point-by-point list of what the steps are to go from where they are
to where they want to be. If they make those steps, if they write those steps down, immediately your
confidence rises because you've got a written process and a very clear process out of your
head onto paper that you can help someone to go from where they are to where they want to be in whatever you're good at. Yeah. And it's, it's the interesting thing too,
is that it's, it's not just, there's, there's two things you hit on that I want to talk about.
Number one, people don't, don't think about how much knowledge they have because it's so
normal for them. I was at a, what we call a think tank. We have something I talked about
at internet marketing party here where we have, you know, a couple of hundred internet marketers,
they come in and it's once a month and we have a think tank
for the person who is actually the speaker. And so the speaker came in yesterday and we were
talking about how the things that are just common knowledge to us will blow people away sometimes
because they just, it's just so normal and you do it every single day. And I think that people
don't think about how deep knowledge they can have in
one specific thing and how they can make money off of it. So one of the guys who was there,
there's a game. Have you ever heard of the game called Warhammer 40,000?
No, I haven't.
Exactly. Neither have I. It's been around since like 1970. And he plays this game and he's been
in internet marketing for a while. And he has students that he was like, I'm going to show you
guys that I can build a business quicker than you can with something
really weird and obscure that you would never think.
Because some people are listening like, well, I don't have any deep knowledge in something.
Well, you might have hobbies where you have a deep knowledge in that hobby.
So he's got this weird, obscure niche of this game called Warhammer 40,000.
Wow.
And he's like, I'm going to build a business and a following faster than all of you
guys will. And so he decided that he's going to start making these videos. He's got his own studio
at his house. He set up five different cameras to watch these people that watch him and his friends
play this game that takes up to five hours, right? So these are five hour videos put up on a YouTube.
And in the past couple of months, he's gotten 9,000 followers on his. And so what
he did though, is he's got these, these packages that people can buy. Like they can do, you know,
they can donate $10 a month because it costs a lot of money to have his studio and to put all
of it together. So he's got people that pay him $10 a month. Well, then his, his most expensive
package is people get so into this game and they're so obsessed with it that if they want to
come out and live with him for a week, because he's got a house that has a couple extra rooms, he charges $5,000.
They could come out and live with him for a week. He literally put it up to only 9,000 people that
follow him. And his first day got three people that booked a week with him and he made $15,000
off of 9,000 followers his very first day of doing it. And so it's like, that's a weird, obscure thing
that people would never think of, but you're able to monetize it because if you really have an
obsession or a hobby, there's pretty good chance that someone else out there has that same obsession
or hobby. And you could either connect with them, you could teach them stuff, or like him, they
could just come out and live with you for a week if you really want to spend five you know spend five thousand dollars and you can help with production
costs i like the word obsession in there because at the end of the day everything we're trying and
you've been doing this for like i was saying to you just before we got on this is like what 300
and something episodes you've been doing this which means that 43 i think this would be 443. I think this would be 443 or 444. All right. So 443 episodes of this podcast.
And for a year, that must be what? Over a year, right?
Or maybe two years or maybe three years.
It's almost three, yeah. August is over three years.
And the only reason we know that this podcast is successful
and has been running for such a long time
is not because you're anyone famous.
It's because you've been doing this consistently for three years. And the only reason you can do it consistently is because you're obsessed with it.
You're obsessed with the work that you do. And I really want to say that how important that is.
And just as with the example you gave, because the best way to measure success is in the long term.
You forget about like financial success or anything like that until five years time,
until 10 years time when you start a business online. Be focused more on the passion and the obsession because the passion and the obsession is going to
drive the consistency. And it's the consistency that makes somebody successful.
For sure. There's a thing that just literally pops into my head thinking of this,
the obsession part. There's a guy that I follow on Facebook and he started off making money online
because he was obsessed with basketball and he was a short white guy, but he, you know, as a short white guy, you know, I'm six foot two
and I still can't dunk. This guy's like five foot eight, I think. And he can dunk. And he just taught
himself how to dunk. He just kept trying it over and over and over again. And people kept going,
well, how do you do this? And he's like, well, I just learned how to do it. And he built a business
just starting on how to dunk. And he would teach
people this. He'd send them the video, send them the workout, send all of those things.
And he's like, oh my gosh, I can make a lot of money doing this. Well, now he runs a Facebook
page called I Love Basketball. Once again, his obsession. And they have, I think, a couple
million followers on Facebook. And I know that this guy makes a couple million dollars per year
because we're friends on Facebook and he talks about different ways that he does things.
So it's like that's an obsession where somebody would say, oh, yeah, I love I love basketball or I love football, but I can't make any money off of it.
Well, if you love, you know, the New York Giants and you're a football fan, I know there's people out there that have a New York Giants podcast out there and they make it might not be millions of dollars per year.
But it might be enough for you to quit your job and solely focus on it.
And it's like Gary Vaynerchuk says, he says, you can make $120,000 at a job that you hate if you really work for a long time and stay there for a long time.
But would you rather make $87,000 a year running a podcast about the New York Giants and be able to do that every single
day and do what you love because that's the opportunity that the internet gives you.
You'll be able to make maybe less money, but at the same time, you're going to be able to
do something that you absolutely love doing and you don't feel like it's work every single day.
Yeah. And that's only at the start, you know, like, and you know, there's like at the start,
of course you may have to take a less slightly amount of money, but if you, if you get yourself
into the motion and if you get going, and asff bezos of amazon says you don't find your passions
your passions find you if you get to that point where you really feel you're doing something else
at the end of the day there's absolutely no doubt you will end up making way more money
for sure than if you were in a career for sure and we're not in it to make money of course that's
not our primary motivation we need money of course but that's not our private primary motivation but at the end of the day like that whenever you follow
your passions and you keep at it for long enough because you're consistent enough and because
you're alive and your energy drives you when you go to a job you end up just doing what your role
says in that role sheet that you were given when you first started doing the job you start to
explore outside of the box like you start looking for things that you would never have started to
think about before when you start to follow your passion. For sure. And that's, that's, that's a
really interesting thing because for me, the way that, that I started was with this podcast and I
was sitting inside of, I got to a point where you're sitting inside of this deli, it's a chain
deli here. And I was with my girlfriend. I remember looking at everybody around and just for some
reason, it was just like, you know, you walk into a place and like the vibe is just, it's just weird.
Something's something's off.
And it seemed like everybody was like sad or depressed and like yelling at
their kids and all of these things. And I thought to myself, like,
I feel like I've been able to change my mindset a lot from when I was younger
going through a lot of things that I went through, you know,
having an alcoholic father who passed away when I was 15 unexpectedly.
And then, you know,
trying to figure out like my life after that and my life even before that. And felt like I was in a pretty
good place where I had learned a lot. I had read hundreds of books and I was like, you know what?
I've, I've trained 2000 sales reps over the course of my career. What if I just turn on the mic that
I have at my house and just talk about it and see what happens. And I thought eventually, you know,
three times a week, I'm going to run out of stuff to talk about. But what you said is you start getting so obsessed that you start thinking
of new things you never thought of. I thought I was going to run out. I'm at 440 episodes. I still
have an Evernote file that probably has 250 topics I've never even talked about. And I just pick them
and go off on them. And so it's like, it's so interesting because not only do you start going
into your passion and getting excited about it, but you also start your brain because it's on that topic.
I always use the example of if you buy a car, you never see that car anywhere.
But then after you buy it, you're like, what the hell?
This car is everywhere.
I've never noticed it.
It's all over the place.
And that's exactly how it is in your brain is because that car now exists in your brain.
And now you start seeing it everywhere. When you're in session, you start thinking about it
more. You start seeing all of these opportunities where number one, like for me, you can make a
podcast topic, something like that, something you could talk about, or you go, Oh my God,
I can make money this way. I can make money this way. I can make money this way. And we're not
talking about becoming millionaires or even making a hundred thousand dollars a year, which is
something that you obviously could do and,
you know, would want to shoot for. But what if it was an extra thousand dollars a month
just by doing something on the weekend that you're passionate about that you're going to do anyways,
you know? And that's the thing about $12,000 a year extra in your bank account due for you by
living something that you're passionate about. I saw this great, I went on the tube, which is
the underground train network here in London. And i went on the tube which is the underground train network here in london and i went on the tube uh the other day because we were
doing some filming and uh i came across this ad and it said and it was from a college actually
and it said go work here nine to five but make magic happen from uh six to nine yeah or six to
eight or whatever it was you know and that's really the key that you're getting at which is
use the rest of the time that you have to, instead of idling on Netflix or which is fine
from time to time, you know, find that passion of yours. Like, what is it? Let it, let it like,
just sit for a minute and say, what am I really most interested in? And what is it that really
makes me come alive? And let me just start to spend some more time in those communities online.
Yeah. And I think what's important is a lot of people, you know, they send me messages and say,
Oh, I don't know what I'm passionate about. I don't know what I love, you know, and it's just,
it's just the start of it. And if somebody is out there and they're listening to it, they're like,
well, I don't, I don't really have a whole lot of hobbies. I don't really have anything I'm
passionate about. What should I do? I always tell people go do new things. The problem is that most
people get in these habits and they, they wake up at the same time. They have the same morning
routine, which, you know, for me, before I started a morning routine was wake up 15 minutes before I had to leave, fix my hair, brush my teeth, get dressed and then go
off to work. They take the same route to work. They get to work. They talk to the same people.
They eat the same lunch. They go to the same places. They go home. They take the exact same
route home. They eat the same dinners that they probably ate last week. You know, just a little
bit of variables in there. They watch the same show on Netflix. They go to bed at the same time
and they do it over and over and over and over again. So
if someone's out there and like, well, I don't have any past anything that I'm passionate about.
The good thing is there's so many different ways, so many different things that you could do.
There's here in America, there's meetup.com where you can find new hobbies. You go play
volleyball with people. You could do all of these things. And my first thought is I've seen people
make money that don't like, say for, say for instance, golf is something that you're like, you know what? I could be, I might be passionate about golf. Let me try out golf.
I've seen people go from no experience in golf to being pretty good at golf, but they document
the entire journey of how they got there and every way that they improved. And then they sell that
journey to people so that other people can take the exact same journey. So even if you're not an
expert at something, wanting to become an expert at something could eventually make you money if
you just document the journey. So I would absolutely agree with meetup.com. And you know,
that's one of the things that we talk about in the book, like meetup.com is incredible. It's a
great place and an easy way for someone to just hang out at an event, like just go. And if you
don't leave, you don't like it, you leave, you never have to go again. You know, like it's,
it's so easy for you to do that. But I think the other thing to think about is like your childhood because in your childhood there were things you really wanted
to try or really wanted to do or really did and enjoyed that you don't do right now like one of
our earlier clients is a name called veronica dawn and she basically uh is the director or was the
director of communications at this particular time for a very big telecom company in the UK.
And she came to us because she was fed up with that corporate life, incredible luxury, lots of travel, all that amazing stuff,
but never any time to pursue something that was meaningful. And I think that's really important.
So what she did was backtrack to her childhood.
Well, she realized that she was very good at watercolor painting, like painting with watercolors.
And she created courses around that.
She started writing a video, a blog, and then video and then courses.
And now she's selling information online and workshops where she's getting kids and adults and all kinds of people together to teach them watercolor painting and has left that job.
Like, you know, forget about leaving the job for now, but that can come in the future.
But just getting into something that maybe you used to do one of our clients is also somebody who
is a guitar player and he put he is a very good guitar player who's played often it earns his
money by performing gigs and also teaching kids but what he really knows is that a lot of people
who want to learn guitar are those people who are adults and busy in life, but once in their childhood had the idea that actually, you know what,
I could play the guitar. And for whatever reason,
life got in the way and they never did it.
And really when you go and speak to those people,
they don't want to play it to perform at gigs.
They just want to play it because it's fun.
They want to sit around the Christmas tree one,
one year and play some songs with their family. And that's just it.
But so he's got an entire course on how to teach guitar
to adults in like five minutes a day because it's something that they really wanted to do so just
you know in that sense anything that that that is important to you that you have you didn't have the
time to do or you did have do and you don't have the time anymore that would be a great place to
start that's amazing what's let me let me put you on the spot. What's the weirdest, not weirdest, but what's the one that comes into your mind that would be one of the most obscure
that people would be like, you know what? I never even thought that it was possible to make money
that way. Whether it's one of your clients that you've had in the past or a friend or someone
that you've met at a conference where you're like, you're kind of like flabbergasted, like,
wait, hold on. You make money doing this online and that's your gig? Yeah. So I'll give you one. And this is a guy who, you know, like in our gardens,
in order to be able to split the garden from one house to the other, you have fences, right?
And so typically you would think of that as a offline business where you need to go to a place
and view fences and then you pick the fence you want and then you pay the guy and the guy also adds on his service
to come and fit it for you
or you have somebody else who fits it
and he helps you go to buy the fencing,
whatever it is.
But here's somebody who wants to be able
to free up his time
by having it available online
for people to select the fences,
select the design on the pole
that goes in between it
and check out with the option of adding fitting
based on the,
how many panels you've purchased as well as annual checkout.
So he's bumping them up on these offers,
but he's making the entire process online seamlessly.
So come on,
if you can sell fencing online fences,
as it were online,
you can sell anything online.
That's incredible.
That's a,
so,
and,
and you don't have to give me a,
you know,
an exact person, but like, or just like, you don't have to, you don't have to give me an exact person, but like, or just like,
you don't have to reveal their business,
but is there someone that you know
that you've taken along this journey from,
like you said, like doing nothing online
to doing something big online
and they have this massive success story
that's one of like,
either you're proud of success stories
and you don't have to give financials
unless you wanna not tell who the person is. But I'm just curious, like for people
out there that want to dream big and they might think, like you just said, fence, or maybe someone's
like, you know what, I'm a plumber and I'm just going from place to place. I don't even own this
plumbing company. I've just been a plumber for 20 years. And they feel like that's, you know,
they feel like that's where they're going to be for the rest of their life. Is there something
you could think of that could allow someone to dream big that would be like,
they went from this of absolutely making no money online to doing this, and they're making X amount of dollars?
Yeah, so let's make it really real.
Most of the clients that we work with are real people.
And what I mean by that is they're people that are starting out from nothing, or they don't have a huge platform.
They're not exposed to a whole market.
Because that's the other thing that people say.
Well, you already have like 500,000 people on your fan page or whatever.
You already have like 400 episodes.
So you've already got a platform.
But the key is what about those that don't?
And most of our clients actually are like that.
And so here's an example.
This guy is called Sam.
He basically runs a recruitment consultancy firm for the last 15 years, as I'm telling the story. He basically meets people who are basically working in HR, and they have positions in their company that they need to be filled.
they're looking for jobs and he says well let's improve your resume let's improve your uh your cv basically let's give you the interview skills let's send you off to this interview that we've
got for you and then let's see if we can get you in the job and so that's basically what he does
and he's done that for such a long time offline and the way the consultancy business works in
that field is that you can put someone in a job and then obviously they have a probation period
or grace a period of like two months to try out the job.
And then if they pass that and then the clients on their part, which is the HR department of a specific company, will pay Sam's company a fee for putting them in the job.
So you don't get paid until like three months down the line.
This is how his business has been structured.
paid until like three months down the line it's it's this is how his business has been structured right but he's recently realized and relatively recently over the last five years realized that
although he's helping people with uh resumes companies are more and more looking at linkedin
profiles and going onto linkedin and checking out the person reading their profile and seeing
whether they should be hired or at least invited for interview yeah so he says that actually
resumes or linkedin profile resumes as it were, are more important
than a document or a PDF or something like that that you send off.
So he said, well what if we just offer that as a service?
So here's somebody who has no platform online, nothing online, and he goes on and we are
helping him structure his entire sales funnel and what he's offering is basically a LinkedIn profile rewriting service.
You will pay the fee for the rewrite.
Go to his website.
You pay the fee for the rewrite.
You fill out a form.
The form goes off to Sam's writer.
Sam's writer writes back with a few additional questions.
Within four days or three, four days, you have the entire brand new LinkedIn profile redone for like $200.
And this guy is making $10 making 10 to $15,000
a month consistently for the last four years. It's amazing. That's so amazing. And, um, so,
so then I think a question that would pop into someone who's not in the, the, the industry of
the internet, people go, well, you know, this guy, Sam, how does somebody find this guy, Sam,
that might, where do the leads come from is what most people are probably thinking. So in that case, where would somebody find Sam if Sam has no following?
Yeah. So think about it. So Sam basically has... So first of all, you don't just rely on you having
a following and then hoping that the following hears about you. I mean, you also have a following,
Rob, and you have half a million, maybe even more than that right now on Facebook. You don't rely
on them to find you.
You can't just put a video and hope that they see it.
You still mention the video a few times.
You're going out there.
You're sharing your stuff.
Like you do a podcast.
You have to share the podcast for it to be heard.
It's not like you're just sitting back and saying, oh, here's content.
Consume it.
So in the same way, Sam, like if you think about him, he needs basically people who have crap LinkedIn profiles and that are also looking for jobs.
So where do you go to find someone with a crap LinkedIn profile?
You go to LinkedIn.
So he goes to LinkedIn with his team of people,
or at least he's got one assistant who he's hired for, you know, five bucks an hour or whatever it is. And she basically goes on and looks for anyone that's searching for jobs or who's written
anything about jobs and then uses the email feature to actually contact them individually
to say, Hey, look, we know you're looking for a job. We've created a checklist that says, here's the seven things you need to have in place
on your LinkedIn profile to make sure it's a really good LinkedIn profile. And if you can
make sure you have these things, then of course, that's great. You know confidently your LinkedIn
profile works. So they go ahead, they opt in, they download the thing, and they realize that
out of seven things, I might have three things or four things. So of course, there's a gap. There's like space to
improve my LinkedIn profile. And of course, that's the opportunity for Sam to say, hey, so we offer
this service. It's 200 bucks. Go ahead, buy it, blah, blah, blah. So Sam is actively reaching out
to people and trying to get them involved. And by creating video and by creating before and after
pictures of profiles that he's seen and then improved, and by creating before and after pictures of profiles
that he's you know seen and then improved and then they've got hired and he's doing everything he can
to reach out to people who for him are on linkedin if you're trying to sell something else like you
know and we know that people lots of people are selling stuff to do with like weight loss or
fitness and how to grow a fitness career and all that kind of stuff but again like where do you go
for stuff like that you start to build an account, you start to build a Facebook page, you start to create content.
Creating content is the first six months of your business. You like you got to go all in on being
as consistent as possible and creating good content, and then spending more and more time
on sharing it and building partnerships and influencing. For sure. And it's so that the
important thing that I think people need to realize is that you start with adding value for free.
It's like Gary Vaynerchuk says, he says, jab, jab, jab, right hook. Like you give, you give, you give, and then
you ask people to buy. And what happens is people start to do like, for instance, Sam sends this
message or his, his virtual assistant sends this message. And when you say $5 an hour, people don't
realize like someone in the Philippines can get $5 an hour. Their average income is like $3 an
hour. So even though it's not a lot to us, it's a lot to them. It's actually almost twice what it is. So it works out in both
situations. But Sam's assistant could go out and do this and give value to people. And then people
go, well, how else can you help me? Because this really helped me. And so if you think about like
anything that people do, like for instance, I, you know, I'll use this example of my, my friend who has that game Warhammer 40,000, right? It's he, he's just
adding value and value and value. And then what he did was he goes, you know, people looking at
him and like, he's actually really good at this game. I want to learn to get better. He then says,
well, you know, I can teach you guys how to get better if you want. And he's got courses around
it at different ways to get better. And he ended up connecting. Oddly enough, interesting story. He ended up connecting. And this is how, if you
really want to go for opportunities, it shows the resilience of somebody. It's a true story.
A 14-year-old kid started hating on him on YouTube. And it was like, this guy's not that good.
Who is he anyways? He's not ranked. How He's not, you know, how many competitions has he won?
So my friend goes, you know what?
I'm going to find out who the number one player in the world is.
He reaches out to the number one player in the world who happens to be some college kid.
And he says, hey, you know, do you want to come out to Austin?
I'll fly you out.
And the whole thing's probably going to cost him, you know, a thousand bucks.
And he's going to pay him a hundred dollars a day for him to be there and to play this
game with him to teach people and to play this game with him
to teach people to show people like you know legitimately this is the best warhammer guy in
the world we're playing together and then what i'm going to actually have him do at the end
is give some tips on how to get better at warhammer and so people are like oh my gosh this
guy's number one in the world of course i want to learn how to get better at it they start watching
those videos he gets more viewers from from this as. He brings this guy on and he goes, you know what? Why don't we just split this
business? He goes, you know, you're a college student, which a hundred dollars a day. He said
the guy was super excited to be able to make a hundred dollars a day to come out and play this
game because he's a college student. He goes, you know what? You're a college student. Why don't we
split the business, me and you, because you're better than I am. And what we'll do is we'll make
courses around this and you can start teaching people this.
And so it's just this, it's this weird, obscure, like there's, there's so many different.
And that's why I started off by saying there's millions of ways to make money online.
I think that people just need to go, you know what?
I'm not satisfied with the job that I'm at if they are not.
And I want to see if there's some sort of way that I can make money off of my passion. And if they don't have a passion, then they start off by saying, you know what,
maybe I should start doing new things and see if I can find something that I'm passionate about.
And if I find golf is something that I'm passionate about, then maybe I can take people
along my journey and they can start showing them how I've been improving and start off with a
YouTube station and say, guys, today I learned this from my coach and he taught me this, this, this. And then people will
watch that and go, Oh, that's free value. This guy, John taught me so much about golf in the
past few months. I'm excited to learn more from him. And then when John is six months down the
road, you know, it takes 10, 10 strokes off of his, you know, as a brand new golfer, he can start
a course that says how to take 10 strokes off your, your game in six months, even if you've never played before in your entire life.
That's incredible. Let me put it another way. And I write about this in the book and I,
and the book is obviously it's called don't sleep on it, um, for a reason. And it really is
that, uh, it's not really a case of if you, if you hate your job. And I think that's really
important and that really pushes people. But I also feel that every single one of us
has a responsibility to follow those passions
because sitting idle or sitting on the side
or sitting on the sidelines
and not contributing to the world
by what you believe in and what you enjoy
is robbing the world of the contribution you can make.
Absolutely.
And we're not all playing at
a hundred percent amazingness every single day we're not we're not patient enough we're not
alive enough we're not energetic enough and we owe it not to ourselves only but to the people
that are in our inner circle and to the people that are in the world that we follow what we
love because that's really the only time when we can really truly say that, you know what, I've lived and earned my right to live in this world. For sure. Absolutely.
Well, this was good. This is the exact episode that I wanted to have. Because for me,
people send me emails and they ask it, like I said, like, how do I make money online? And
you're way more of an expert of that because you've been doing it for much longer, number one,
and you've worked in a lot more industries than I have. I just know the way that I make money online
and I've seen other people make money online as well. So if somebody's out there and they're
interested, your book is going to be on pre-order. How do they find it? How do they find the
information to order the book to learn more about something like this? Perfect. So right now the
book launches on June 26th and that's when it will drop on everyone's doorstep.
But, you know, go ahead, order or preorder the book beforehand, because if you do, then a lot of the things we talk about in the book, like, you know, identifying your value and, you know, identify your customer and working out a course, perhaps, or a way of selling your information or, you know, seeing some real examples.
All of that stuff, we've bundled it up as downloadable bonuses. We've got some free video training. All of that stuff we'd like to give you
as a bonus for pre-ordering the book. So if you pre-order the book anytime right now through
till when we launch, which is 26 June, you can buy it from anywhere, Amazon, Barnes & Noble,
Wordery. You can get it on Audible. You can get it on the Kindle, wherever you want to get it from. Go ahead, get it. And then go to our website, which is
don'tsleeponitbook.com. And then go ahead there and you'll be able to claim all these bonuses
just for pre-ordering it. So yeah, I appreciate it. Awesome. And for anyone who's out there,
from what I've heard, and you can confirm or deny, but if you are thinking about pre-ordering,
you're like, oh, I'll just wait till the book comes out. I think it's actually really important for pre-orders to come in because it helps with
your rankings on New York Times and all those things at Amazon. Is that correct?
Yeah, yeah, exactly. And from what I understand of the way the publishing industry works is that
everything that is pre-ordered goes towards the very first week and submits it towards the
rankings. So I would really appreciate, of course, if people pre-order it instead towards the very first week and submits it towards the ranking. So I would really appreciate it. Of course,
if people pre-order it and instead of waiting,
and if you know you're going to get it and right now it's also cheaper than
when it comes out from what I understand from the publisher.
So it's works out in everyone's favor to get it right now. I appreciate that.
Awesome.
