get out of it? When are you going to do something different? And Einstein says to do the same thing over and over again and expect different
results is insanity. But you have to realize a lot of people out there do the same thing over
and over again and expect that their life is going to change. And so if you're someone who's

What we're going to talk about today is we're going to talk about, we're going to talk about
mistakes.
We're going to talk about failure.
We're going to talk about all the things that people hate.
They don't like mistakes. They don't like failure. They always want to succeed. They
don't want to have to deal with those failures and mistakes. And you have to learn from your
mistakes. And they actually say, if you didn't know this, they said, if you survive your first
heart attack, then you could actually have a better chance of living to 90 or a hundred years
old than someone who hasn't had a heart attack. And the reason why is because
doctors say, Hey, listen, if you don't change the way that your life is, if you don't change the way
that you are, if you don't change the way you, your food, everything that you consume, if you
don't change your diet, if you don't change the way you work out, if you don't change, you could
actually die. And some people take that to heart. And well, some people actually don't take it to
heart as well. No pun intended. But some people take it to heart and they go, man, I just had a
health scare. I should change my life. And they go to a health food store. They start to read,
how can they get better with their diet? What kind of exercising can they do? And it's, it's,
you have to realize the reason why is because they failed.
They had that mistake. They had that heart attack and now they can overcome that. So they can live
longer because of the fact that they had that heart attack because it was the natural alarm
system that your body has, the natural alarm system that serves you. It's a negative thing
that happens that people can learn from
and make positive to make their life better. So what I'm trying to get at is everything that
happens to you, whether it's positive or negative in your life is a learning experience. Learning
requires failure in life. You have to fail. And when you fail, you have to look at it as a learning
experience and find out what you can get from it every single time you fail. See when you fail, you have to look at it as a learning experience and find out
what you can get from it every single time you fail. See, I'm going to let you in on a secret.
Here's what most people do. Most people fail and they go, oh man, this wasn't meant for me. I must
have picked the wrong thing. You know, I see all these other successful people. I must have picked
the wrong thing. But in reality, all the successful people that they're looking at are just people who
happen to have gotten it right once. They say the great thing about success is
you only have to be right once. But in order to be right once, you have to be wrong a lot more times
than you are right. So you have to fail. You have to realize that in anything that you do, there's
going to be a lot of failure in sports. And you guys have heard me say this. This is nothing new. But the reason why I say this over and over again is
because I feel like the main reason why you might not be where you are, why most people aren't where
they are, is because they're afraid of failing. If you're afraid of failing, get the F over it
and just keep going. It has to be something. Sports, you have to fail. You have to fail.
I mean, most,
if you think about it, in baseball, if you are an amazing baseball player, if you are a Hall of
Fame baseball player, you're going to strike out 70% of the time. If you bat 30%, you are a Hall
of Fame baseball player. That means you fail 70% of the time. Imagine if you failed at baseball
and you thought you were just terrible because you failed 70% of the time. Imagine if you failed at baseball and you were a terrible, you thought you were just
terrible because you failed 70% of the time. But in reality, you were better than most people.
So you have to do this. You have to try to detach your emotions from every situation. You have to
detach your emotions. I understand you get emotionally involved, especially if it's something
that you're really, really passionate about. And you feel like when
someone says no to, you know, they don't want to buy something from you. I understand sometimes
it's hard not to get your emotions attached to that because you feel sometimes that they're
saying no to you. But you have to realize they're not saying no to you. They're just saying no
to your business proposal. And so you have to realize this, some will, some won't, so what,
who's next? That's what we always used to say at Cutco. Some will, some won't, so what, who's next?
Some people are going to buy, some people aren't going to buy. Why do people who go through Cutco
and stay there for so long become so successful? The reason why is because you fail a lot, a lot,
a lot, and you get so used to failing that you realize it's just part
of it. Some will, some won't, so what, who's next? You have to detach your emotions from your failures.
Beating yourself up for something that has happened in the past is absolutely pointless.
You must detach your emotions from that and always ask yourself when you learn, when you fail,
when you get a no-sale, when something like that happens, always ask yourself, what can I learn from this?
You know, I once heard a story about a CEO and the question that they asked the CEO was,
would you fire a good employee who made a mistake that cost the company $10,000?
So the question was to the CEO, would you fire a good employee who made a mistake that cost the company $10,000. So the question was to the CEO, would you fire a good
employee who made a mistake that cost the company $10,000? And the CEO responded, no, why would I
fire him? I just spent $10,000 training him. He knows that that employee won't make that mistake
again. He knows that employee won't make that mistake again because if the employee costs
the company $10,000 on this mistake, they're not going to do it again. If you were to fire him and
put somebody else in his place, guess what could probably happen? The next employee could actually
make that exact same mistake. So he understands that you have to learn from failure. Failure is
a lesson. You know what's more powerful than learning from your own mistakes though? Learning from somebody else's mistakes. Do you know how you learn from somebody else's mistakes?
Let me give you an example. Let me give you a couple examples. You can learn from books.
You can learn from paying for courses that are online. You can learn from coaching. You can
learn from seminars. You can learn from conferences. Why do people pay thousands of dollars?
Why did I go to, I didn't even tell you guys about this, but a couple of weeks ago, I went
to a two day mastermind that costs $10,000 for two days.
Why?
Because I knew that there would be successful people in that room.
There's only about 10 of us in the room.
I knew there would be successful people, people in the room that I could learn from because
I know that they've made mistakes.
I know that they've had successes and I know that they've had successes and I can figure
out what their successes and failures were and learn from them in doing so. So here's the thing
that you need to know. Humans, you and I, we are flawed individuals. You are flawed. I am flawed.
I am, I am very flawed. That being said, it must be expected that you're going to make a mistake,
that you're going to fail. So if we go into every situation knowing that we might make a mistake,
that we might fail, that we might completely screw up, that we shouldn't get our emotions
attached to it. If we go into it expecting that it's a possibility, not trying to, but expecting
that's a possibility that we might fail, then it's easier for us to pull our emotions away from that. Then we can go to
every situation expecting to learn from it. Whether we fail or whether we succeed, we can learn from
it. And like I said, knowledge is power. If you fail, learn from it, add it to your knowledge
base and use it for your greater success. Because we either learn the
correct way to do something or we do the, we learned the wrong way to do it. And there's power
in both. There's power in learning how to do something and there's power in learning that
that is not the correct way to do something. Because if we do something wrong, we're not going to do it again. So to fail and quit is a complete waste
of time because you already gained the knowledge that you needed to do something. You really gained
the knowledge of what you should not do, which means that you now have something to cross off
your list. Like they said, Thomas Edison said he didn't find or he didn't fail 10,000 times trying to build a light
bulb. He just found 10,000 times, excuse me, found 10,000 ways that a light bulb was not made.
Sarah Blakely, the woman who founded Spanx, she's a billionaire, a billionaire. And her father used
to ask her and her siblings every single night, every single night at dinner. How did you fail today? How did
you fail today? How did you fail today? And they came to dinner every single night talking about
their failures because her father must've been an extremely, extremely wise man and realized that
if he got, if he made it normal for his daughter and their siblings to fail and made sure that they
realized it was just a normal part
of life. Then when they fail later on in life, they wouldn't be crippled by it. Then she became
a door-to-door saleswoman selling copy machines. She was rejected hundreds of times selling copy
machines. And then when she decided to start Spanx, she was literally hundreds of times
rejected for the idea of Spanx. People did not want to invest in her
company. And guess what? She didn't stop because she believed in it. And now she's a billionaire.
What if she would have quit after the first three rejections and not gone a hundred more rejections?
She wouldn't be a billionaire. Let me give you a huge tip. Fail and fail often. If you're not
failing, you're not learning. Success is 99% failure. I've said it a million times in this podcast.
Here's the problem.
Most people give up when they get to failure because they think it wasn't right for them.
Michael Jordan was cut from the high school basketball team.
He could have quit and thought it wasn't right for him.
Abe Lincoln.
Let me just take you through Abe Lincoln because I love his story.
He is probably the perfect person to understand that you can fail and fail and fail and fail
and fail your entire life and still make a success.
Are you ready for this?
Let me give you Abe Lincoln's story.
In 1816, his family was forced out of their home and he had to work to support them.
In 1818, his mother died.
In 1831, his business failed.
In 1832, he ran for state legislature and lost.
In 1832, same year, he also lost his job.
He wanted to go to law school and couldn't get in.
In 1833, he borrowed money from a friend to begin a business.
And by the end of the year, that business was bankrupt.
He spent the next 17 years of his life paying off that debt to his friend.
17 years of his life paying off his friend.
In 1834, he ran for state legislature again.
This time he actually won.
In 1835, he was engaged to be married.
His sweetheart died.
In 1836, he had a nervous breakdown.
It was in bed for six months. 1838, sought to become a
speaker of the state legislature, defeated. 1840, sought out to become the elector and was defeated.
1843, ran for Congress, lost. 1846, ran for Congress again. He won and he went to Washington and actually did good.
In 1848, he ran for reelection to Congress and lost. 1849, he sought the job of land officer
in his home state. He was rejected for it. In 1854, he ran for Senate of the United States. He lost. In 1856, he sought to be the
vice presidential nomination for his party and lost. In 1858, ran for the U.S. Senate again,
and he lost. And in 1860, he was elected to become the president of the United States.
That's a lot of failure, but guess what?
He didn't quit. He just kept going. So I'm going to tell you this. I'm going to tell you in a very
harsh way because I think it needs to be said. You're going to fail in your life. If you fail
and give up, you're wasting your time. You might as well not do it at all. You have to go into
the mindset of you're probably going to fail and you need to keep going. I'll tell you this, grow up, become a big person, realize you're
going to fail, accept the failure and continue on your way. If somebody can be rejected as many
times as Abe Lincoln over those, that was only a 36, 34 year span that I just told you. If someone could
be rejected that many times and have that many things happen to them and still become the
president of the United States, then you can probably fail a bunch of times and still become
