Hello, hello, you beautiful people.

So today I'm going to talk about failure.
I freaking love
failure. I love talking about failure because I know that failure is the greatest lesson that we
could all possibly have. And here's the thing. Most people, you may have heard me say before,
most people view their failures as flaws. Most people, the reason why we hate failure so much is because most people's paradigm is I am not enough.
Their core, to the core of them, whether it's they're afraid of failure, they're afraid of rejection, they're afraid of success, they're afraid of being a bad parent or not having enough money or all of those things.
Their core, at their core, it's I'm not enough.
And so when you fail, that is putting a spotlight 100% on I am not enough.
And so that's why most people hate failing. And they see their failures as flaws. Your failures
are not flaws. The intention that you put to something, the importance that you give to
something is going to dictate how you feel about
it and how it actually acts in your life. Most people fail and then it's like a flaw. It's like
a scar. They hate that feeling of failure because they feel, boom, right there, I am not enough.
And it's a spotlight right on that. I'm not enough. So people try to
avoid failure. People try to not even start because they don't want to fail.
Here's the thing I'm going to tell you. The most successful person that you can think of right now
is the person who has failed more than anybody else that you could think of.
The most successful person that you know is the person who has failed the most.
I remember seeing a video not too long ago with Oprah and she was sitting in a room
and she had hundreds of people around her and she goes, the reason why I'm the most successful
person around here is because I'm the person who has failed more than anybody else. There's a pretty
good chance that I have failed more than every single person in this room put together. And you have to realize failures are not flaws.
Failures are lessons.
Your failures are your greatest teachers
that you will ever get
if you allow them to be your teachers,
if you listen to them.
Your failures are not flaws.
It's the universe saying, hey, no, no, no, try again.
That just wasn't the right thing that you needed to do. That's all it is. You know, it's like if you're driving your car and you get to a road
block and you have to take a detour and you're like, um, you know what? I'm just going to go
home. Like that's what failure, most people see failure as they get to the road block and then
they say, oh, I'm just going to give up. Right? Thomas Edison said that he didn't fail 10,000 times at creating the light
bulb. He found 10,000 ways to not create the light bulb, right? Imagine if Thomas Edison just
gave up after the 10th time. The guy who created Honda, if you have not looked up the guy who
created Honda story, I would say his first name, but I don't know how to pronounce it.
up the guy who created Honda story. I would say his first name, but I don't know how to pronounce it. But basically what he says is success is 99% failure. All we see is just the 1% of success.
And we think, oh man, that person's successful. They must have done it all. They must not have
failed at all, right? The people who fail the most are the people who are the most successful. So whenever you think of failure, I want you to think about this. Do not
associate fear with failure. Do not associate bad, negative thoughts with failure. What you need to
start doing is when you think of failure, think, I need to fail. I need to fail. I need to continue
to fail over and over and over again. Sarah Blakely,
who is the woman who founded Spanx, and it's a multi-billion dollar company, and she owns 100%
of it. She got no outside investors, right? She owns 100% of her company, and it's a multi-billion
dollar company. That's extremely hard to find. But when she was a little girl, every single day at
the dinner table,
her father would ask her and her brothers, how did you fail today? How did you fail today?
And what happened was he associated good feelings with failing. And he would be, if people came in and they didn't fail for the day, he wouldn't be happy about the fact they didn't fail because he
knew in order for his kids to be happy, in order for them to be successful, in order for them to make something of themselves, they would have to fail a lot.
And so when she went out and she was rejected over and over and over and over again for Spanx,
it was not a big deal for her. It was not going to stop her. She kept going and kept going.
And when people didn't want to invest in it, she's like, all right, well, since nobody seems
to think this is a good idea, I'll just put all of my own money into it. And guess what? Now, because of all of the facts that
she failed over and over again, getting people to invest in her company, she owns 100% of a
multi-billion dollar company. 100% of it. Every single person that you can think of that's
successful has failed many, many times. Michael Jordan was cut from his high
school basketball team. It's a famous story. He was cut from his high school basketball team.
He went home, he locked himself in his room and he cried. And then he realized,
if I'm going to be successful as sport, I'm going to have to work at it every single day.
Right? Thomas, or not Thomas Edison, Einstein wasn't able to speak until he was four years old.
And when he was a little kid, his teachers actually told his parents that he wasn't going to amount to very
much. Albert Einstein was seen as a stupid kid. They actually thought that he might've had down
syndrome. Oprah was demoted from her job as a news anchor because they said that she wasn't
fit for television. She's failed over and over and over again.
Walt Disney was fired from a newspaper because they said he didn't have imagination and had no
original ideas. Right? At age 11, there was a guy who was diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency,
which made him smaller than all of the other kids
that were his age. Guess what? That guy's name is Messi. He's one of the greatest soccer players
ever and still playing at this point in time, right? Steve Jobs was fired from Apple at 30
years old. And that was the company that he started. Then he went and started Pixar,
which is a massive
company, super successful. And then Apple hired him back again, right? People who are the most
successful are the people who have failed more than anybody else. And that's what you have to
realize. So what I want you to think about is this, whenever you fail, think of it as, okay,
I'm not going to attach a bad thought with this. I not going to attach a bad thought with this.
I'm going to attach a good thought with this.
I'm going to take my pen and paper out and ask myself, what can I learn from this?
Because to fail from something and to not learn from it is a complete waste of a lesson.
So your failures are not flaws.
Your failures are your greatest lessons that you'll ever have.
The greatest teachers that you will ever have in your life are all of the different ways
that you failed.
The people who fail the most are the people who are the most successful.
