Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast. I'm your host, Rob Dial. And

Today, we're going to be talking about the coronavirus, of course, and what you can learn
from it in this time of rest. And I was listening to something the other day,
and it was an audio book,
and the quote that they said really stood out to me,
and it's only standing out to me
because of the fact that the coronavirus
is going on right now.
And what they said was,
out of rest comes the appropriate action.
I'm gonna say that again.
Out of rest comes the appropriate action.
And the rest that we're going through right now,
the things that we're thinking about, the time that we have, the things that we're able to do
that we've always said that we want to do, we have time to rest. We have time to think.
We have time to meditate. We have time to recalibrate and start to go, man, do I really
want to change my life? Is there something that I want to do that I've never done?
Maybe it's waking you up because you've been asleep your entire life. Maybe you've been in a low grade zombie state your entire life. If you think about it, there's a lot of people in
the world that just wake up and do the same things over and over and over again. And it's just same
crap, different toilet. They do the same thing over and over and over again, and nothing ever changes. And the question I have for you is, have you been in a zombie state for a
long time? How long have you been in that zombie state? How long have you been stuck in that
comfort zone doing the same things day after day after day, which turns into year after year after
year? And usually when I ask people this question, they say stuff when I say, how long have you been
stuck in this zombie state, this place where you're currently at, where you feel
like you've just been asleep and you've just been going through the motions and you've just been
doing what you thought that you were supposed to do, but it wasn't even truly what you wanted to
do. Maybe you, you know, graduated high school and went to college when you didn't want to go
to college. Maybe you got a degree and studied for a degree you didn't even want because that's
what you thought you were supposed to do. Or because maybe you were
chasing money. Maybe you got married earlier than you wanted to. Maybe you bought a house in a place
you didn't want to live before you went and traveled. I don't know what it was, but how long
have you been stuck in that zombie state, that comfort zone that you're currently in? You know,
when I ask this question, people say, oh, I don't know, six months, a year, five years, 10 years. I've heard 40 years. I've heard 50. I've heard 60 years. Could you imagine
living your life in a low grade zombie state asleep and basically sleepwalking all over the
place for 60 years? What do you think that you would think if you were on your deathbed and you
were thinking, man, I lived my entire life in a zombie state because we can all agree that there's a lot of people that do, they live in a zombie state.
They do the same thing. They wake up at the same time every single day. They get up on the same
side of bed. They put on the same type of clothes. They take a shower in the exact same way, listening
to the same music. They have the same thing for breakfast, drink the same coffee. They drive the same way to work. They talk to the same people at work. They eat the same thing for lunch
or they hang out with the same people when they go for lunch. They do the same things at work.
They just try to make enough money to get by or they try to get enough done not to be fired or to
not be noticed by the boss. They get off of work. They take the same route home. They listen to the same music or the same, uh, you know, podcast or whatever it is. And they go home
and they eat the same food. They talk to the same people. They do everything exactly the same. They
watch the same thing on Netflix, the same TV shows. They go to bed at the exact same time.
They have the same routine and they wake up and they do it over and over and over again.
exact same time. They have the same routine and they wake up and they do it over and over and over again. And if you never change, nothing will ever change. It's like this profoundly simple
thought. If you never change, nothing will ever change. Some people think that they're going to
wake up and do the exact same thing that they did yesterday, but somehow they're going to create
this dream life that they've always wanted.
And I'm here to tell you that's not going to happen.
So maybe the coronavirus was specifically designed
for every single one of us to be woken up
from the zombie state that we've been stuck in
for God or the universe or earth or whatever it is,
the collective consciousness of humankind
to wake up from this shitty state that we've been in for
hundreds of years, if not thousands of years. And we've been stuck in the zombie state,
not caring about anybody else, but ourselves. We've been selfish. We've not been caring about
other countries or other animals on the planet or caring about the planet.
Maybe it's a time for us to take a step back and from rest will come the appropriate action.
And so this is a time where you take a step back and you go, okay, let me recalibrate.
Let me reevaluate my life and what I'm doing with it and actually start to put time into it.
So I'm curious with you, really think about this question and answer it to yourself,
answer it to your head, in your head, whatever it is you need to do.
How long have you been stuck in the place that you're currently at? That's the first question
I have for you. And the second question I have for you is how much longer are you going to stay
there? Because although there are terrible things and people are dying, and that is extremely sad,
there are people that are being woken up to the fact that right now they have not been living the
life that they want to live. They're having their midlife crisis at 25, 30, 35, 40 years old because
they're like, oh my God, what am I doing? What have I been doing with my life this entire time?
I always say when you're inside of the jar, you can't read the label, which means that all too
often we're inside of the jar of our life and we never take ourself out of our life to evaluate it.
Now you have the time right now to get outside of the jar,
read the label of your life and say,
is that how I want to continue living my life?
Because we might never, ever have something happen like this again,
where the entire world has time to rest,
has time to reset, has time to reset,
has time to recalibrate and replan what they want to do with their life. The worst thing that could
happen is that nothing comes from this for you. So what have you been asleep to? What habits
and traits have you been asleep to that you need to wake up to that this is trying to show you?
Have you been asleep to the fact that you've not been living your true purpose your entire life? Have you been asleep to the fact that you've not been living your true purpose
your entire life? Have you been asleep to the fact that, you know, you don't know what your
true purpose is or that maybe you're too selfish and you don't think about other people enough?
Have you been asleep to the fact that there's areas of your life that require work? Have you
been asleep to the fact that you don't take good enough care of your mind, that you don't take good
enough care of your body, that you don't take good enough care of the people that are around you?
Have you fallen asleep and, you know, been asleep to the fact that maybe you work too much and don't take good enough care of your body, that you don't take good enough care of the people that are around you? Have you fallen asleep and, you know,
been asleep to the fact that maybe you work too much
and don't spend enough time with your children?
Have you been asleep to the fact that maybe you spend too much time on your phone
and not raising your children?
Maybe your children need more time with you more.
And it's not about, it's not about the amount of time.
It's about the quality of time.
You know, when you are with your children,
when you're out of work and you're not working,
you're sitting there, are you on your phone the entire time?
Are you going to tell me that Instagram and Facebook and Twitch and Twitter and all of those
different things, I don't even know what the hell the name of all of them are. I think there's
something called Twitch out there. I'm pretty sure that there is. And all of these things that
are the social medias and the stuff that can really keep you hooked. Are those more important
than your children?
Raising your children right
and giving them the full-time attention that they want?
Do you want your children to wake up at 18, 19, 20 years old
and be like, yeah, I wish I would have had more time with my mom.
She was always there,
but she was never really paying attention to me
because she was always on her phone.
Maybe it's waking you up to that.
Maybe it's waking up to the fact that you have addictions.
Maybe you have a food addiction.
Maybe you have drug addictions. Maybe you have a food addiction. Maybe you have drug addictions. Maybe you have a sex addiction.
Maybe you have a work addiction. Maybe you have an addiction to attention and feeling like you have to be emotional so that people give you the attention that you need because you never got the
attention that you needed to as a child. Do you need to wake up to the fact that you need to work
on your life more? Do you need to work on yourself more? Do you need to work on your mind, your body,
your fitness more? Or do you need to wake up yourself more. That you need to work on your mind, your body, your fitness more.
Or you need to wake up to the fact that you don't call your mom enough.
Do you need to wake up to the fact that you don't take care of your most important relationships?
Do you need to wake up to the fact that you're polluting the earth?
That you're polluting your body?
That you're polluting your mind?
That you don't focus on the most important relationships?
What is it that you are asleep to?
That's the question that I have for you.
The thing that I think is most important for you to do
is to grab a pen and paper while listening to this,
while going through it, put me on pause if you need to,
and just write down the question,
what have I been asleep to?
What is it that I'm doing with my life
that I don't want to be doing anymore?
If I look ahead in 10 years and I don't make a change now,
and I'm in the exact same position
10 years from today that I am right now, how am I going to feel about myself?
How disappointed will I be in myself if I didn't take the action to change my life,
to change my family's life? And then let me ask you a question that's even deeper than that.
What will my children and family miss out on? Because all too often we think about ourselves and we think, oh man, it's not a big deal
if I don't hit my goals because at least I'm raising my children and all of this stuff,
which is great.
I do want you to concentrate on raising your children, but also think about what they will
miss out on if you don't come out and be the most optimum version of yourself, like the
best version of yourself.
If you go out there and use this time to recalibrate,
to start a new business,
to get better at your current career,
to read, to get a new degree,
whatever it is that you need to do,
and you are now a step up from where you were before,
then you're able to create a better life after this
for yourself and obviously your family as well.
So what have you been asleep to? What do you need to wake up to? And then what do you need to do
after this all blows over? Because I don't know when it's going to blow over. I don't know when
it's going to end. It will eventually end. Humankind will not be knocked off the face of
the earth. I do know that. I will promise you that this will be over the sooner. If more people will stay home and just completely take themselves out, it will
blow over much, much quicker, which means that less people will die, which means the economy
will take less of a hit, which means that everything's going to be better much sooner.
I don't know when it's going to blow over, but I do know it eventually will.
And if we come out on the other side and we're not changed as people and we keep
doing the exact same thing, then it's just been a waste. And it's been a waste of our time. It's
been a waste of some human life. And that's not what I want because you will get to one day,
which will be your last day on earth. You will be on your deathbed. And the worst thing that
could happen is that you look back and said, this isn't what I wanted to do. I had this time. I had 80
years, 85, 90 years, 120 years. I don't know how long you're going to live. Hopefully a long time.
And you say, damn it. I could have done more. I could have done better. I could have created a
better life for myself, for my family, for my friends, for my community, for the world.
But you know what? I was just too lazy. I was too busy on Instagram. I was too busy on Facebook. I was asleep to the things that were really, truly important. I was asleep to my addictions, to my
food addictions, to my lack of working out, to my drug addictions, to my working too much and not
spending time with my family. Because if you don't change, nothing will change. And to go back to the
quote I told you at the beginning of this is out of rest comes the
appropriate action. What is the appropriate action that you need to take after this all blows over?
So that's what I got for you for today's episode. If you love this, please share it with someone
that you know and love. And I'm going to leave you the same way I leave you every single episode,
make it your mission, make someone else's day better. I appreciate you. And I hope that you
have an amazing day.
