Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast. I'm your host, Rob Dial. Today, we're going to talk about how to use visualization to motivate you to create the life that you want. Now, let me ask you a question. Does your future excite you? And be honest with me, does it actually excite you? Is there a part of it that maybe scares you? Is there a part of it that maybe gives you some anxiety? Is there a part of it that maybe holds you back? Do you have some fears, some limiting beliefs that pop up whenever you start to think about your future? Because today we're going to talk about how to use your future to give you the energy that you want today to go out and actually create that.
Starting point is 00:01:10 So if you're not as driven as a person as you want to be, if you're not as motivated, if you don't feel like you're as hardworking as you want to be, if maybe you're a little bit lazy, this is going to be a great episode for you. Because I get asked questions like this all of the time. And they're questions like, hey, how do I motivate myself? Or I'm so lazy, how do I actually start to work hard? How do I stop being lazy? How do I make myself become a harder worker? How can I stop worrying about the future? How can I get past my self-limiting beliefs? How can I get past my self-sabot? How can I get past my self-sabotage? I get these questions all the time. And I'm going to actually explain to you why you
Starting point is 00:01:50 feel that way and why that's actually the worst thing towards you trying to create the future that you want. It's not really hard. This is not difficult what I'm going to teach you. What future are you imagining? That's the question that I have for you is what future are you imagining? I'll give you an example. I help coaches that are, you know, life coaches, fitness coaches, wellness coaches, nutrition coaches, anyone that's a coach. The structure of a coaching business is all the same. Whatever they teach is whatever makes it different. But I help coaches build online coaching businesses. And one of the things that I hear sometimes, you know, I've helped over a thousand people grow their businesses. And lots of these people deal with the same problems that any other person does growing a business. You know, like we,
Starting point is 00:02:33 usually the problem with growing a business is not the actual business itself. It's our mindset of actually taking action and growing the business. So sometimes someone will come in and they need to take action, but they're like, I'm not taking the action that I need to. I'm not really sure. I can't get myself to do it. And then I ask them why. I'm like, well, why aren't you taking the action? And they'll explain stuff like,
Starting point is 00:02:53 oh, I'm feeling anxious. Okay, cool. What are you feeling anxious around? And they'll say, oh, I'm feeling anxious around, and there's a lot of different examples that people have that they also have in other businesses too. It's all the same. I'm feeling anxious that like,
Starting point is 00:03:09 what if I sign a client and I don't help them change? Or, you know, what if I get onto an enrollment call with the perfect prospect and they say no to me? So I'm afraid of being rejected, basically is what they're saying. Or they're saying, I'm scared of being judged. You know, if I put up a motivational Instagram reel or Instagram story, I'm afraid of my mom judging me
Starting point is 00:03:30 or my friends judging me or my coworkers judging me. I'm afraid of being rejected. I'm afraid of other people's opinions. I'm worried about growing and having to build a team and hiring people. And what if that doesn't work out? And what if I have to fire them? And what happens is this, is what's crazy about the whole thing is that they're basically
Starting point is 00:03:48 visualizing a future that they don't want. What if this, you know, what if, what did I say? A few different things. What if I assign somebody and don't help them change? What if someone says no to me? What if I get judged on Instagram? What if I have to build a team and then I have to hire people and then fire people and all that stuff? So they're basically envisioning the future that they don't want. And then this is super important for you guys to understand. Everything you can think of, I've heard in some sort of way. I've taught over a thousand coaches and I've heard it all. And let me be honest with you. Here's the thing. Let me tell you why those circumstances are the way that they are.
Starting point is 00:04:26 And it's so hard when someone's in that situation for them to motivate themselves. So if you're out there and it's hard for you to motivate yourself, if you find yourself being lazy, if you find yourself being anxious or fearful or get limiting beliefs that are in your way in some sort of way,
Starting point is 00:04:39 here's the key to it. Is you, and I've never heard somebody talk about this before, but it's super important for you to understand this. You draw energy from the future that you imagine, good or bad. So you draw energy from the future that you imagine. Here's what's so crazy about humans, okay? We are so good at building a future in our mind. Like we're so good at building a future in our mind. We can see it so clearly that we can trick our body into believing that we're in that moment.
Starting point is 00:05:12 And so if we're worried about somebody judging us, we can actually feel the feelings of a fake future in our current reality right now that makes us feel like we're being judged. And so why is it hard to motivate ourselves into a future is because you're envisioning a shitty future and feeling the feelings in this current moment of that shitty future. Yeah, that's not motivating at all. Does it make sense? You're literally pulling and drawing energy into your current moment from a future that doesn't exist because you're so good at envisioning and creating a future that you're
Starting point is 00:05:43 creating a future that is not the one that you want. No wonder why it's so hard to motivate yourself because you're feeling the feelings inside of your body right now as if you actually had that future come to reality. Here's the thing that I find about people. People tend to envision and think about what they don't want more than they think about what they do want. So yeah, it's hard to motivate yourself. Yeah, it's hard not to be lazy because why would I want to work towards a future that looks like shit, right? Like if I'm envisioning a crappy future, why would I work hard towards a future that doesn't look like it's fun for me? You see
Starting point is 00:06:22 what I mean? And so the thing about it is that if you worry about a future and it's not the future that you want, then of course you're going to worry about it. If you worry about a future, I mean, 85% of what humans worry about never happened in the first place. That's the important thing. Psychologists have found that 85% of what you worry about does not happen at all. So that's the first thing. But if you worry about the future, it's not because the future is something to worry about, because there's no immediate threat. Like there's no threat right now.
Starting point is 00:06:52 And so if you're worrying about, let's say you have a business and you're worried about somebody returning your product, right? They're not actually returning your product in this moment right now. They're returning it in a future that isn't real, that you're literally making up, but you're feeling the feelings right now. This is crazy, isn't it? You're feeling the
Starting point is 00:07:15 feelings right now of the order being returned as if it was actually happening. So literally what you're doing is it's because you're able to put yourself in that future and feel what it would feel like if it actually happened. And so no wonder why it's hard to motivate yourself because you're envisioning a future that you don't want. So if you're anxious about something that's in the future, it's because you're able to imagine it so well that your body in this moment is able to create the chemicals that your body would make if it actually happened.

Starting point is 00:10:23 And you're also very creative. And so if you're imagining futures that you don't want, and it's making you anxious, even if you're not like, you know, take building a business out of it. I hear so many people that have children and they literally ruin beautiful moments with their children. Like I've heard people be like, you know what? I've been in the middle of watching my child sleep. And it's the most beautiful thing. I think, oh my God, I love you so much. This is amazing. And then immediately a thought comes into my head
Starting point is 00:10:48 is what if I ever lost you? And they take this beautiful moment and fuck it up completely because they're literally imagining what if they lost their child, which is then creating the chemicals inside of their body that they would feel had that actually happened to them. And then they start to worry
Starting point is 00:11:02 and then they start to worry and then they start to worry. And then it literally changes the way that they take action or don't take action throughout the day. So why do we do this? First off, whenever I think of things that humans do, like I always take a step back and be like, what is the reason why this is built into our brains?
Starting point is 00:11:18 Because it has to have some sort of positive, it had to have been positive at some point in time in the past. And so the way I think of it is it's most likely a protection mechanism that kept our ancestors alive. Imagine if you're back 100,000 years ago and you're thinking about walking outside of a cave at night. You're in your cave with your cave men, your cave women, your cave babies, your cave dogs, and all that stuff that you guys had in there. And you imagine yourself walking out of the cave and the immediate thought is getting attacked by a lion that you don't see, right? And you feel that fear of being attacked by that lion inside of your body. So you decide to stay in the cave. Well, that's a beneficial thing because you live to see another
Starting point is 00:11:59 day. So does it serve us now? Well, yes, it does serve us now if you use it the correct way. And this is the thing is that most people don't know this exists. I've never heard anybody talk about this before, but I've worked with people many times and actually changed the way that they feel in this moment based off of changing the future
Starting point is 00:12:16 that they're imagining for themselves, right? And so how does it serve us now and how can we use it? Well, does it serve us when we're trying to live to our full potential? It can and it cannot, depending on which one you're imagining. You have to realize the solution of it is if you can draw energy from the future, whatever that future that you're imagining, why don't you draw energy from the future that you want? Why don't you draw energy from the future that it is the future that you actually want And this is another piece of the whole manifestation stuff of how to manifest and visualize and law of attraction get what you want
Starting point is 00:12:52 How about I draw energy from the actual future that I want to create? What if you visualized? Everything that you want in detail every single morning and you draw energy from that so therefore instead of feeling worried or fearful or having some sort of issue of like, I don't know if I can do this for self-limiting beliefs and self-sabotage. What if you were to envision the future that you actually truly want and draw energy from that?
Starting point is 00:13:16 Like, what would it look like to have that future? What would it feel like to have that future? How proud of yourself would you be if you created that future? You know, to go out there and change your life, to change your family's life, to change other people's life, to whatever it is that you're trying to envision,
Starting point is 00:13:32 what would it feel like to actually be in that moment? The same way that you're envisioning being in that moment when somebody, you know, something tragic happens to your child and that's causing you, you know, problems right now and the current moment, the chemicals and the worry and all that and that's causing you problems right now in the current moment, the chemicals and the worry and all that stuff that's going through your body, the same way that you can envision that,
Starting point is 00:13:51 why don't you envision like pure joy and bliss and ecstasy of creating an amazing life and having all of this happiness and love and peace and joy in your future and actually start to feel, like pull from that future and feel those feelings in this moment to motivate you to work towards what it is that you want. You can pull energy from the future that you want
Starting point is 00:14:13 into your body right now. So why don't you start pulling from the future that you want instead of the future that you don't want? Why do you continue to pull energy from the future that you want? The things that worry you, the fears that you don't want? Why do you continue to pull energy from the future that you want? The things that worry you, the fears that you have, the things that make you anxious, all of that just to me sounds like torture. And so I'm so curious all the time. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:14:37 why? When I started thinking about this, I was like, why do people literally torture themselves? Because years and years and years ago, like 12, 13 years ago, I started learning about how to actually visualize and how to use this. And it's kind of become second nature where I like, I don't even think about what I don't want because it's a waste of my fucking time. It's a waste of my energy. And it's a waste of the chemicals
Starting point is 00:14:55 that are going through my body. I'm going to focus on what it is that I do want so that therefore it gives me motivation and drive to actually go and work towards that thing. I want to pull energy from the future that excites me. I don't want to pull energy from the future that excites me. I don't want to pull energy from the future that makes me anxious. I don't want to pull energy from the future that makes me sad.
Starting point is 00:15:11 I don't want to pull energy from the future that worries the shit out of me. I want to pull energy from a future that is so freaking exciting that it literally gets me off my ass so that I can work towards it. There's no laziness at that point in time. It's like, I want that future so bad,
Starting point is 00:15:24 I'm going to work for it really hard. So you pull energy from the future that you do want. It becomes easy to motivate yourself. So instead of having to feel like you have to push yourself to work, like, do you feel like sometimes you have to push yourself, like force yourself to do whatever it is you need to do? I felt that way many times. My first business that I ran into the ground, I felt like I had to force everything. So instead of having to push yourself to work, what happens is you actually start to feel pulled by the future that you want. You start to feel pulled by the future that seems so amazing because these feelings, these chemicals, serotonin and dopamine are inside of your body. You're like, I'm going to go create that future.
Starting point is 00:16:08 Most people think that they don't want, think of what they don't want instead of what they do want. And so we're not taught this in school. You were never taught this. I was never taught this. Your children will not be taught this by school. So it's something that you could teach to them. And most people don't know it.
Starting point is 00:16:23 They don't know that you can draw energy from the future that you want. I've never heard people speak about this before. But when I sit down with somebody and I can see the reason why they're anxious or sad or worried is because they're envisioning a future that doesn't exist. They're envisioning a future that they don't want. I can sit with them and actually start to change their idea of what could the future be.
Starting point is 00:16:41 And you can literally hear their voice change. You can see their body posture change. You can see the way that they start to talk with their body. They're more expressive in everything that they do. And it's like, ah, you see your body just got energy from the future that you want because you had no energy when you were thinking about the future that you didn't want.
Starting point is 00:16:58 And so what you want to do is you want to figure out the way to build a future that is so exciting to you that literally it makes it so easy to work towards it so that you can pull energy from the future as you want. If you start to notice that you're feeling bad and you're like, God, I don't feel good. I don't feel motivated. I feel worried, anxious, whatever, sad, whatever it is. Ask yourself, what am I visualizing? What am I envisioning in the future that's giving me these feelings? And what can I change my visualization to be to draw energy from that future instead? And what can I change my visualization to be
Starting point is 00:17:25 to draw energy from that future instead? Because what you visualize will give you energy in this present moment. So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
