Today, we're going to be talking about something real sexy. We're going to talk about how hard
life is. We're going to talk about how hard life can be. And I talk about this usually every couple
years because I feel like it's so important for people to really grasp and really understand. Life in some sort of way is about sacrifice. There are sacrifices in
life. There are things that you do sacrifice that you don't sacrifice. And whether you decide to
sacrifice or whether you do not decide to sacrifice, either way, believe it or not, you're
going to be sacrificing something. So even when you decide in the moment not to sacrifice. Either way, believe it or not, you're going to be sacrificing something.
So even when you decide in the moment not to sacrifice something, you in the long run will
be sacrificing something later on down the road. You might be like, what the hell is he talking
about? Let me give you a couple of examples, okay? Let's say that you want to build a brand new
business. You've decided, you know what? Screw it. I'm going to build a
business, the business of my dreams. I'm going to put the work in. I'm going to achieve what
I've always wanted to achieve. In order to build a business, you must sacrifice something. And
you're probably going to have to sacrifice a lot of things at different points in time.
You're probably going to have to sacrifice some time.
You might have to sacrifice some time when you normally would spend time with hobbies,
with people that you love. So you're going to have to sacrifice some time at some point in time in order to build this. To think that you're going to build a successful business and nothing
in your life is going to change is crazy. You know that it is. You might have to sacrifice your time.
At some point in time, you're going to have to it is. You might have to sacrifice your time. At some point in time,
you're going to have to sacrifice it. You might have to sacrifice your current job. Some of you guys are like, well, that sounds great. I actually want to sacrifice my current job. You might have
to sacrifice some sleep at some point in time. You might have to sacrifice partying with your
friends. Super Bowl weekend, you might think, oh my gosh, I really want to do this. Go out and party,
have fun with my friends. But you might think, you know what? It's actually more important that
I wake up tomorrow, Monday, and have a really great day because my business needs it. So you
might have to sacrifice that. I remember one time, my business, I had won a trip. I was with a company
and I had won a trip to Jamaica and I was all good to go. And then the next couple of months,
our sales were not where they needed to be. And I could have left for my one week free trip to
Jamaica and been like, I'm gone. Peace. See you guys later. I could have done it. But there's a
part of me that was like, I can't do it. I'm not happy with the state of my business. I'm going to
have to skip the trip. I had tons of my friends from the company that were going, all of that.
I skipped the trip. I sacrificed the trip to Jamaica. I still to this day,
I've been all over the world. I've never been to Jamaica. Still haven't been there yet.
So I had to sacrifice that week for free with my friends from the company in Jamaica,
because I wanted to make sure the state of my business was going to grow.
You might have to sacrifice to start your business that toxic
relationship, right? That relationship might not make it. So a new business is going to require
some sort of sacrifice right now, right? But if you decide not to start that business,
there will be sacrifice later. There will be. There will be a little bit of mental health
where you're like,
man, you know what? I could have done it. You go to that job that you don't enjoy and it's not
filling you up and you're like, I could have. I had that idea five years ago to start that
business. Where would that business be now if I would have just started it? And you have that in
the back of your head all of the time. What if that business would have been a massive success?
Well, you have to sacrifice your bank account
because your bank account is not where it could have been
had you decided to sacrifice earlier on in life.
You might have relationships that sacrifice.
So it's like if you would have made a bunch of money
in that successful business,
you might be able to take your children all over the world,
but you didn't do it. You might be able to provide your children all over the world, but you didn't do it. You might be able to provide a different life for your family,
but you didn't do it. So there is sacrifice later on down the road because you didn't sacrifice.
You also have to sacrifice your potential. Think about that one for a second. You sacrifice your
potential long-term because you decided not to sacrifice in the moment. And it all comes down to life being hard. Life is either hard now and easy later
or easy now and hard later. There is nothing that's in between.
It's either easy now and hard later or hard now and easy later. The beautiful thing about life though, is you
get to choose which hard you get. You get to choose your sacrifice. So your business,
there is a current sacrifice. Yes. But there's also some things that could come from it.
Financial success could come down the road later on down the road. If you sacrifice now,
if you have current sacrifice,
you might have massive financial success. You might have financial freedom to not have to work
later on down the road. Imagine if you could build a business, be able to remove yourself,
and then not have to work again. Well, that would be financial freedom. That would also be time
freedom. Freedom to do what you want, when you want, with who you want. You might also be able
to get a lot of things down the road. You might be able to travel to every country what you want, when you want, with who you want. You might also be able to get a lot
of things down the road. You might be able to travel to every country that you want to. Maybe
you want to start a successful business, put a lot of time into it, grow it, remove yourself,
allow it to still keep running, and you just want to travel the world with almost like unlimited
funds, right? Also, you might be able to sacrifice now and build an amazing life for your family.
You might be able to give your children a better education. You might be able to sacrifice now and build an amazing life for your family. You might be able
to give your children a better education. You might be able to get them into a better part of
town. You might be able to give them all of the dance classes or the athletic classes or the
coaches or whatever it is that they want and they need to be able to better themselves later on.
Or if you don't start, you're stuck with your salary. You don't have freedom to travel.
You have to go to work every single day and not feel fulfilled. Maybe never be able to retire.
Maybe die with regret. So there's always a sacrifice. But the beautiful thing is that
you get to choose what your sacrifice is. And now you're aware of it. You can't get to the
end of your life
and pretend that you didn't know this now. I just let the cat out of the bag. Secret's out.
There's sacrifice. It's going to happen. It's either hard now and easy later, easy now, hard
later. You get to choose which one you want though. You know, if you want to get into shape,
you're going to have to sacrifice. You're going to have to sacrifice the food that might taste
really good, but might be really terrible for you. You're going to have to sacrifice the food that might taste really good, but might be
really terrible for you. You're going to have to sacrifice watching Netflix when you should pass,
you know, shift your entire schedule a little bit later so that you can wake up and work out
in the morning. You might sacrifice hanging out on the couch. You might sacrifice naps. Oh no,
the naps are going to be gone. You might have to sacrifice time with
friends. You might have to sacrifice alcohol. You might have to sacrifice tasty but shitty food.
You might have to sacrifice comfort and put yourself through some temporary pain in order
for you to be able to build the body that you want. You might have to sacrifice the time,
the energy, the money that it takes to go to the gym day after day after
day after day. Because you don't see results right away. It might take a few months. It might take a
year. It might take multiple years. When you see someone who has an incredible body, that takes
four, five, six, seven years sometimes to build. You might have to sacrifice the comfort and go
and get hurt, destroy your muscles, be sore for days and days
and days, not be able to put your arms all the way down because you worked out your biceps so hard.
So that's your sacrifice now. Hey, today's program is brought to you by Athletic Greens,

It's either hard now and easy later or easy now and hard later. But if you do all of that,
you do make yourself get more in shape. And you do work on that. You set yourself up really well
later on down the road, right? Better mobility, better health, longer life, being able to play
with your grandchildren when you're 70, 80, 90 years old. So it's hard now, but it will help you make
life easier later on down the road. See that? Let's say you don't get in shape. There's still
sacrifice. There's sacrifice later on down the road if you do not get in shape. Sacrifice now,
sacrifice later. What's the sacrifice later on in life? Maybe you have a
shorter life. Maybe you're less mobile. Maybe you can't do all of the things that you want to
because you're not able to anymore. Your joints are too used to sitting down and not being in
shape, right? Can't walk around all of the time. Maybe you have to get a walker. Maybe you have to
get a wheelchair. You're tired. You don't have as much energy because you didn't work on your energy throughout that time. Maybe some sort of disease
creeps in. Both of them are hard. Both of them require sacrifice, but you get to choose which
hard and which sacrifice you want, right? If you work hard, you can provide for your family.
If you work hard and you work on your body,
you can live longer for your family. And so you realize, you know, the harder, if you decide,
you know what, I'm going to work really hard. Maybe you don't have your own business. I gave
the example of a business. Maybe you don't have your own business. That's fine. But you go,
I'm going to work really hard in my business so that I can make sure I get promoted, that I can
make sure that my employer knows that I'm serious and that I want to be promoted. If you're in sales, you could just
hit quota if you want to. You could just get by, check the boxes and be average. Or you can go,
you know what? I'm going to be great at my job. I'm going to prove to my employer how great I am
and that I am somebody who deserves a promotion. I'm somebody who deserves more money and you work hard now and that will set you up for more money down the road, more
freedom down the road, everything. And that will then affect your family's life as well.
What else is hard? Relationships are hard, right? Oh yeah, they're definitely hard.
You have to put in work to have a really good relationship. It's a lot easier to not have tough conversations in a relationship.
It's so much easier not to have tough conversations. So you're making it easier now,
but if you don't have the tough conversations now, don't you think that it's going to be way
tougher later on down the road when things blow up. So you can decide, you know
what? All right, I'm going to make it hard now. I'm going to have the tough conversation. We're
going to sit down. We're going to plan our relationship. We're going to plan what we want
to be. It's going to require work. It's going to require effort. It's going to require both of us
coming together, but we have to decide that we're going to be a team together. That's hard now.
It's hard to just decide that you're going to do that. It's hard to have those tough conversations and not let it build up. But think about how much better your life's going to be
when you have the hard conversation now. And instead of just going, yeah, I'm just going to
scoot around and act like that thing didn't happen in the relationship. Think about that for a second.
Think about how different your life would be if you always chose the hard route.
If you decided, you know what?
I'm not going to take the elevator anymore.
I'm going to take the stairs.
That's not very easy.
It's not going to be easy now, but it's going to be pretty hard now.
But do you think it might allow you better mobility, better movement, better training,
better heart rate, all of that stuff?
If you decide to take the hard route and go up the stairs, sure. Now think about that though. If we take that idea and that analogy,
how many places in your life are you trying to take the elevator when you should be taking the
stairs? How many places in your life have you been taking the elevator when you should be taking the
stairs? You know the stairs are there. You know you should go up them. You know that there's a
massive benefit of you going up those stairs.
But for some reason, you keep turning a blind eye and going, I'm just going to take the elevator.
How different would your life be if you decided, you know what, I'm just going to finally buckle
down and I'm going to do what I need to do because I know that I need to do it.
If you decide to take the hard road, it doesn't have to be every single time, but if you decide
to take the hard road way more
than you take the easy road, your life later on down the road will be so much easier. I don't
know about you. I'm only getting older. I think that things are going to be a lot harder to do,
working hard, working out. All of those things are only going to get harder as I get older.
So I might as well go, hey, maybe God gave
me a body that works, a brain that works, some muscles that work. So I could go, you know what,
I'm going to take the hard road in the beginning of my life because I know if I take the hard road
in the beginning of my life, the end of my life will be so much easier. Think about how much
easier, think about how much easier, but also how much better your life will be if you decide to take the hard road.
Now, if you broke through the laziness, if you decided to put in the work,
when an opportunity arises, you took the path of least resistance,
how much better would your life be?
Now start to think about how much better your family's life would be.
Your children's life, your spouse's life, your mom, your dad, brother, sister? How much better
would your family's life be if you decide to finally step up to the plate and take the hard
route? Think about the people that you're closest to. Think about the community. How much better
would everybody's life be that you touch in some sort of way if you decide to stop doing all of
the easy stuff, if you decide to stop making excuses, if you decide to stop doing all of the easy stuff, if you decide to stop making excuses,
if you decide to finally step up and do something with your life, how much better is your life
going to be? Because when you step up, it's not just your life that improves. It's also everybody
else's life around you that you touch as well. It's everyone around you. And at every single
moment in your life, you have options. Do I take the easy route? Do I take the hard route? Do I
take the easy route? Do I take the hard route? And just because you happen to be a lazy person
or you happen to be somebody who hasn't taken the hard route in a really long time,
and it's not something that's built into you, you can learn to push yourself. You can learn to
choose a hard route. You can learn to decide to do what you need to do even when it is uncomfortable
because at every moment
in your life, there will be some sort of sacrifice. When you're saying yes to something, you're saying
no to something else. When you're saying yes to working out, you're saying no to the couch. When
you're saying yes to the snacks, you're saying no to the body and the health that you want. When
you're saying yes to the tough relationship conversation, you're saying yes, you're saying no to the hard
acting like nothing's the issue, acting like everything's all good to go. But you're also
noticing that later on down the road, your life's going to be so much easier when you have that
tough conversation, when you decide to work out, when you decide to get rid of the snacks, when you
decide to build the business, when you decide to work harder, your life will be better later when
you decide to take the hard route now.
And just so you know, most people don't take the hard route. So if you decide to do this over and
over and over again, you will set yourself apart from everybody else around you. There will be no
competition because they will not be able to keep up with you. So when you are presented with the
easy route or the hard route, if you really want to create the life that you want, I hope that you choose the hard route. So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
