Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast. I'm your host, Rob Dylann.
If you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so that you never miss another podcast
episode. And if you're out there and you've never given us a rating review on Spotify
or on Apple Podcasts, please do me a favor, pop your phone out real quick. It'll take
10 seconds. Give us a rating and review. The more positive reviews that we get, the more that Apple and
Spotify show this organically to other people and the more that this podcast grows. So if you
could do that, I would greatly, greatly appreciate it from the bottom of my heart. Today, we're going
to be talking about using the power of affirmations in the words that you use. And so in past episodes, I've talked to you guys about the law of attraction.
I've talked to you about how to manifest the life that you want.
And you could go back and you can listen to those and find those episodes of manifestation.
But one of the most important things, whether you believe in manifesting,
whether you believe in the law of attraction or not, is simply just the words that you use.
So there is nothing, there's very few things that are more powerful than the words that you use. So there is nothing, there's very few things that
are more powerful than the words that you use. Not just the power that you have, that the actual
words have when you say them. There's so much power in them, but there's also so much energy
in all of the words that we say as well, based off of what you think of them, what your programming
is, all of that. And so I'm going to give you the most powerful phrase that I have found in any language in just a little bit,
but I want you to just think about this one phrase. And I've brought this up before in the past.
And I want you to just feel, when I talk about energy, I want you to feel inside of your body
how this makes you feel, okay? Feel inside of your body how this actually makes you feel.
Okay? Feel inside of your body how this actually makes you feel. The phrase, I have to.
Okay? How does the phrase, I have to, make you feel? How do you feel right now when you think of something that you have to do? How do you feel? Think about that for a second. I hear this all of
the time. I still catch myself saying, I have to. But when you actually think of how it feels in your body,
how does it feel to think that you have to do something? Like I remember being,
immediately what I think of when I think of I have to do something is the way that I would feel when my mom would make me go mow the lawn. We had this huge lawn. We had a push lawn mower. I lived in
Florida. It was hot. It was sticky. I would always come in. I was covered in grass. I remember having to mow the lawn. She would be like, you have to mow the lawn. I'd be like,
oh, God. I would just think in my body like, oh, my gosh, this sucks. This sucks. I don't want to
be doing this. I don't want to be doing this. The feeling of I have to is such a draining
feeling for you. If that's the one that pops into my head, what visual
or what memory pops into your head when you think of something that you have to do?
What is it? What is it when you have to do something? Maybe it's like cleaning your room.
That was another thing I hated doing. My room was trashed when I was in high school. You couldn't even see the floor. There was so much shit all over the place. And I remember
my mom telling me I have to clean my room, right? So what memory or what feeling pops up in your
mind, what visual, what memory, what feeling pops up for you of something that you have to do?
Having to do something doesn't bring a motivated energy to my body. It doesn't probably
bring a motivated energy to your body as well. And so if you're saying, I have to do something,
what do you think that does to you subconsciously when you think of something that you have to do?
Does it slow you down? Does it lower your motivation? Does it bring in more resistance
towards taking action towards that thing? Think about that. Now, have you ever said,
I have to work out? Oh God, I have to work out today. It was on my schedule. I have to work out
today. Okay. How does that make you feel? If you think about having to do something doesn't bring a motivated energy to you, and now you have to work out, do you see how that having to work out and
thinking that is something that you have to do can actually make you less motivated to do that thing?
Now, what if you switched it to instead of I have to work out, I get to work out.
You get to work out. You choose to work out. That's a powerful choice. And it's the sovereignty
behind those words. You are now a sovereign being, not something that you have to do,
but something that you choose to do, something that you get to do. Think about that for a second.
How many people can't work out today because they might have some sort of handicap or because they
might have something that's going on with them where they can't work out.
And they would love to trade places with you.
How many billions of people would love to trade places
with you right now in this moment?
Think about that for a second, having to do something.
You don't have to do anything.
To say that to yourself is a fucking lie.
You don't have to do anything.
You get to do everything.
You choose to do everything that you do. Like for instance, you might be thinking to yourself, well, I have children.
I have to feed my children. Well, you don't have to feed your children. You probably should. You
know, I'm not saying don't feed your children, but you don't have to do shit for being honest.
You choose to feed your children. You get to feed your children. You get to have children in front of you.
Some people wish they could have children.
You get to feed your children.
You choose to feed your children.
You don't have to do anything, right?
Or what about the phrase instead of, you know,
people saying like, oh, I don't have enough time.
I don't have enough time.
I'm too busy.
Oh, really?
That's taking all of the responsibility that you have and putting on
something external. We love to blame externally instead of internally. You don't have enough time?
No, you do have enough time. You're just not making time for it. I'm too busy? No, you're not
too busy. You just don't care about what it is. It's not a priority for you. Going back to feeding
children, we'll go back to that example, right? I remember a friend of mine, she was talking about how she's been trying to lose weight. She's been trying to
work out, but she's just been so busy, she hasn't been able to. She doesn't have any time to work
out. And I was like, that's really interesting. And I said, hey, just curious, when was the last
time that you forgot to feed your children? You just went an entire day without feeding your
children. And she's like, what are you talking about? I was like, when was the last time that you forgot to
feed your children for an entire day or maybe a couple of days? And she's like, never. I've never
done that before. I was like, why? And she's like, because they're my children. Like I love them. I
want to keep them alive. And I was like, okay. So would you say that feeding your children is a
priority for you every single day, multiple times a day? And she's like, yes, absolutely.
And I said, would you say that working out is a priority for you right now? And she's like, oh, well, no. And I said, if you want to
actually start working out more, it needs to become a priority for you. Anything that is a priority
for you in your life will get done. I'm not saying that working out is equivalent to feeding your
children, but what I'm saying is both of those need to be a priority if you want both of those
things to be done every single day or working out five times a week, whatever it is for you. I don't have enough time. I'm too busy.
That's a lie. Stop lying to yourself. Don't lie to me. You can, don't lie to me. I won't let you
lie to me. Stop lying to yourself, right? Or I'm trying to do this thing. Like, just think about
the power behind these words of, I have to. I don't have enough time. I'm too busy. I'm trying. The energy behind these words sucks.
No, you don't try to do anything. Either you do it or you don't do it. There is no try.
Yoda says that, I think. Do or do not, there is no try. You either do something or you don't do
something. It is black or white. You don't try to do something. You either do it or you don't.
So are you going to do it? Not you're trying to work out. Are you working out or are you not working out?
It's got to become black or white for you.
And it needs to become a priority for you more than anything else.
Whatever it is that you want done in your life needs to become a priority.
Okay?
That's something super important to understand.
Think about the energy behind the words that you use out loud
and the words that you think inside of your own head.

Hey, 2020 is here
and it's time for you
to grow into the best version of yourself.
And one way to do that
will always be through books.
Books have always been
and will always be
one of the most essential pieces to learning and growing.
And that's why I love Blinkist.
Although many books have great content,
a lot of them have what I like to call fluff stories.
Stories that are put into books to hammer a point home,
but if you already understand the point,
there's no need to have five more stories
about that one point.
Blinkist, you can have all of the most important ideas
and key takeaways
from the world's top nonfiction
bestsellers, all in 15-minute reads or listens. Use these Blinkist to get inspiration, learn more
about the books that you like to read, broaden your knowledge, and get new perspectives. And
they have amazing books like Atomic Habits, The Power of Habit, The 4-Hour Body, and so many more.
And right now, Blinkist has a special offer for just our audience. Go to Blinkist.com slash mindset to start your seven-day free trial and get 25% off of Blinkist premium
membership. That's Blinkist, spelled B-L-I-N-K-I-S-T, Blinkist.com slash mindset for 25%
off and the seven-day free trial, Blinkist.com slash mindset. Now let's talk about the most powerful phrase
in all languages, everything. And the phrase is I am. I am is the most powerful phrase. It can be
used for good or it can be used for bad. It either opens the doors to all possibilities or it slams
it shut. And it quite literally creates your identity. And your identity shifts the way that you speak.
It shifts the way that you,
the actions that you take and the world that you create.
There are no words more important than I am.
And think about this.
We're talking about the energy behind the words.
This is a super important thing
to always think about the energy.
Once again, I keep bringing it back
and bringing it back and bringing it back.
Think about the energy behind these words.
Think about the energy behind these phrases, okay? I am powerful. What back. Think about the energy behind these words. Think about the energy behind these phrases, okay?
I am powerful.
What do you think about the energy behind those words
if you say that to yourself?
I am beautiful.
What are the energy behind those words that you feel?
I am sexy.
What's the energy that you feel behind those words?
I am smart.
What's the energy that you feel behind those words?
I am amazing. What energy do you feel? I am smart. What's the energy that you feel behind those words? I am amazing.
What energy do you feel? I am loving. What's the energy you feel behind that? I am loved.
What's the energy you feel behind that? I am healed. What's the energy that you feel behind
that? What's the energy behind those words and the way they make you feel inside of your body?
Because your thoughts create a feeling inside of your body.
I'll give you a good example.
Have you ever had a sexual thought before?
I'm sure that you have.
And with a sexual thought creates certain feelings
and hormone changes inside of your body, doesn't it?
So a thought creates a feeling.
So if all of your thoughts create all of your feelings,
then when you're not feeling the way that you want to feel, you have to go back to what you're
thinking and what you're speaking about. So you think about the energy behind the words,
I am amazing, I am loved, I am sexy, I am smart, I am powerful, I am healed, I am loving.
All of those. What's the energy behind those? How does it make your body feel? Because
a thought, a word spoken or spoken, you know, literally said in your own head will make you
feel a certain way versus I am fat. I am dumb. How do those feel inside of your body? I am
unlovable. How does that make you feel inside of your body? I am stupid. How does it make you feel inside of
your body? I am ugly. How does that make you feel inside of your body? What's the energy behind
those words? Think about that for a second. What's the energy behind those words versus the first set
of words? How do they make you feel versus the first set of words and how they feel?
How do they make you feel inside of your body.
And the reason why I bring this up is because you have to realize,
and I say this all the time,
is you would never talk to someone that you love
the same way that you talk to yourself.
You wouldn't.
And one of my favorite videos that portrays this,
I don't know how many times I've told this,
but I just have to tell it over and over and over again.
It was by my buddy Jay Shetty,
and he was creating a video and he had these ladies. He sat down with them. They're probably in over and over and over again. It was by my buddy Jay Shetty, and he was creating a video, and he had these ladies.
He sat down with them.
They're probably in their 20s and 30s.
He sat down with them,
and he gave them a pen and paper,
and he said,
I want you to write down all of the negative things
that you say to yourself.
Just write them all down.
Just brain dump all the things,
all of the negative things.
And they're writing down all these negative things
and negative things, negative things.
And they're basically filling up this pad of paper.
He said, okay, come with me real quick.
And he takes them into another room, and their little sisters are there. And their little sisters
are like 12, 13, 14, 11, right? He goes, I want you to go ahead and say all those things to them.
And they're like, what? He's like, I want you to say all of those things that are on that piece
of paper to your little sister. They're like, no, absolutely not. I can never do that. He goes,
well, why do you say it to yourself
and it was like it clicks
you can see their faces it clicks
and it's like oh shit
yeah I should probably talk to myself
the same way I talk to someone that I love
because the same way that I know
that if I say this to her
it's going to affect her
the same way that if I say it to myself
it's also going to affect me
now I know that some people,
you listen to like the secret
and the law of attraction and all those things,
and they say, sit around and say,
I am wealthy, I am rich, I am abundant,
and all of this stuff.
And with that, I think every single person has a BS meter.
It's very hard.
I've tried it.
I tried it years ago when I first heard about it
back in like 2007, 2008.
To sit on my couch and be like,
I am wealthy.
I am rich.
Money is flowing to me from all areas of the universe.
And in my head, I was like, this is bullshit.
It's not.
I'm broke.
I still have $7 in my bank account.
I still remember thinking that in my head.
So literally, I was trying to use these affirmations
in my head, but they weren't working
because my BS meter was like, no, bro, you're broke. You're not wealthy. You're not rich. And so I'm not saying sit around and be like, I am fit.
I am thin. I am in the best shape of my life when you're not. I'm going to tell you a better way to
sit down and actually make affirmations for yourself. Okay. And there's three parts that
I've made up and I've been teaching this for years, three parts that are extremely important to creating affirmations for yourself. Number one, they need to be true or else your BS meter
is going to go off. They've got to be true, they've got to be present tense, and they've
got to be empowering. So they've got to be true, they've got to be present tense, and they've got
to be empowering. So instead of sitting there and saying, I am rich, I am rich, I am rich,
money is flowing to me from all areas of the universe. And then I am rich, I am rich, I am rich, money is flowing to me from
all areas of the universe. And then you're like, open your eyes, you're like, no, it's not. It's
bullshit. Instead of saying that, if you go true, present tense and empowering, how about instead of
I am rich, I am working hard every day to create more wealth. How does that make you feel? Oh yeah,
well, I am working hard and I am trying to create more wealth. So yes that make you feel? Oh yeah, well, I am working hard and I am
trying to create more wealth. So yes, that does work. So instead of I am rich, I am rich, I'm rich,
I'm working hard every day to create more wealth. I'm working hard every day to create more wealth.
I'm working hard every day to create more wealth. And I'm actually starting to make myself work
harder because this is what I think of myself. I'm making myself work harder because this is
actually what I'm starting to believe in myself.
How's that feel inside of your body? Feel better? BS meter doesn't go off? Does it make you feel more motivated? Does it make you feel more excited? How about this one? Instead of saying,
I am fit or I have the perfect body. And then you look at yourself in the mirror and you're like,
no, I'm still pudgy, right? Instead of saying, I have the perfect body. How about I'm working
hard every day to create a strong and healthy body. I'm working hard every day to create a strong and healthy body. I'm
working hard every day to create a strong and healthy body. And it's true. It's present tense
and it's empowering. And so therefore, it's more likely to seep into the subconscious and actually
start to change our identity of how we feel about ourselves. You have to realize that it's not just
about the words that you say. It's about the energy that you hold behind the words that you say.
And if you're noticing that something that you say to yourself
makes you feel in a way that you don't want to feel,
well, then you should probably change that
and actually ask yourself, what is it that I want to feel?
How can I create affirmations that make me feel the way that I want to feel?
And how can I actually create affirmations
that make me feel the way that I want to feel?
But then also at the same time, help me take action towards creating the future that I want to feel? And how can I actually create affirmations to make me feel the way that I want to feel? But then also at the same time, help me take action towards creating the
future that I want to create. It is not that hard, but it is about being very diligent with every
thought that comes into your head. If it's the thought that you want, keep it. If it's not the
thought that you want, get rid of it and replace it with something that you do want. It's like
weeds growing inside of your garden. If you don't want your garden to be taken up by weeds, you have to pull the weeds as soon as they come up.
Otherwise, they will take over your entire garden.
So every single time a thought comes up that you don't want,
you need to pull it just as if you were to pull a weed
and replace it with something that you do want.
That is the way that you start to actually change
the way that you think about yourself
by using the power of affirmations.
It doesn't have to be woo-woo.
It doesn't have to be manifestation.
It doesn't have to be law of attraction.
All of those things I believe in, but some of you guys
are so analytical, you can't believe in those things. But what it can be is about being very
intentional about every single thing that you say. You don't have to do anything. You get to do
things. You choose to do things. And when you use the phrase, I am, make sure that the phrase,
I am, is never followed by anything that is absolutely not one of the most empowering
things you can say to yourself. If you say I am, and the next thing that comes out of your mouth
or in your mind is not empowering, you have to replace it with something that is empowering
because you will create the future that you think inside of your head. You are literally a reality
creating machine. And if you're thinking a reality that is not amazing to you, you're going to create
a reality that's not amazing to you. The way that you create the reality that you want to is you've
got to envision it, you've got to speak it, you've got to see it, and it's got to become part of your
reality in your head before it ever becomes part of your reality in your external world. And if you
do this, you'll wake up one day and you'll realize that you have created the reality that you wanted
to. So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
