Once again, 1-512-580-9305, and I will start texting you motivational text messages immediately. Today, we're going to be talking about how to live up to your potential. I'm not going to give you any big tips. It's not going to be something where I want you to take a whole lot of notes on today's podcast. Today is going to be a lot of thinking. And hopefully, I'm going to make you rethink some of the most important parts of your life. And the reason why is because when I look around,
Starting point is 00:00:55 I see so much unused potential, not just in everybody else, but I also see it in myself as well. I am not perfect here. And we have so much unused potential, so many things that we could do in this world, so many people that we could impact, so many things that we could do to make ourselves better, to make the world better, to make everything better. But a lot of times, instead of going and actually pushing ourselves to be better, to get more out of ourselves, to get more out of ourselves, to create more opportunity and everything for the world. Instead of doing those things, what do we do? We just kind of go through the motions
Starting point is 00:01:31 and life just kind of happens. I don't know about you guys, but the older that I get, the more that I notice that every day kind of seems like the same. And it starts to seem like it goes a lot quicker. Like as I get older, I'm like, damn, this year has gone by so fast. Like I'm like, how is this year going by so fast?
Starting point is 00:01:52 It seems like last year went by so fast. It still feels like I'm in last year. And we go through the motions, and what happens when we go through the motions is that your brain tends to store things that you do over and over and over again as just one memory. So an example that I'll give you is this. If you wake up today and do pretty much the exact same
Starting point is 00:02:10 thing that you did yesterday and very close to the exact same thing that you did the day before that, your brain is going to mostly store it as just one memory. It kind of puts them all together. It consolidates them. And so what happens is because of that, you're not doing anything different. You're not doing anything new. You're not doing anything novel. Your brain just kind of stores it all as one big memory and there's not many new experiences. And a lot of times what happens is we just go through the motions and we just do the same things that we've done before. And so we need to get better at pushing ourselves outside of our comfort zone because, you know, I was at the grocery store the other day
Starting point is 00:02:45 and someone asked how I was doing. And I said, I'm doing great. I always say great. It's just my go-to. The person said, I said, how are you doing? And he said, I'm just trying to get by. And I didn't say anything because I'm not the guy like, hey, let me go ahead and give you a coaching session here
Starting point is 00:02:59 at the grocery store. But I don't know about you. I don't want to just get by. Like, do you just want to get by? This life that we have is such a beautiful thing. It's such an amazing thing. We get one shot at this thing. Why should we just go through the motions? Who wants to just get by? And I want you to realize that if you've been getting by or just getting by in your life, that is a decision to just get by or a lack thereof. If you're listening to this, though, you're probably not somebody who wants just a mediocre life.
Starting point is 00:03:35 You're not like, you know what? I'm going to listen to the mindset mentor and try to improve myself because I want to get more mediocrity for my life. You're listening to this because you want something more. You want something amazing. You want something amazing. You want something different. And your life might not be terrible right now, but you want more joy. You want more happiness. You want more peace. You want more love. You want some more success. You want some more money. You want more freedom. And we can agree that you can't get those things
Starting point is 00:04:02 by living a mediocre life. And I would say that a lot of people live mediocre lives. People get comfortable. They want to succeed. They want to have more joy and peace and happiness, but it's easier to not do those things and to not work to get those things in your life than it is to actually go out and work towards those things. Comfort is easier
Starting point is 00:04:26 than working towards your goals. Your comfort zone is where your dreams go to die. And you know, hundreds of years ago, Benjamin Franklin knew this. He said, most people die by 25, but they're not buried until 75. Don't get comfortable. That's not what you want. You don't want to just live the same life, the same day over and over and over again. What he means by that quote is that by the age of 25, most people have figured out what it is that they're going to do or they've settled along the way. And they live the same life. Year 26 is the same as year 27. It's the same as year 28. It's the same as year 37. And then 75, 80 years old, they die. God, that just sounds painful.
Starting point is 00:05:10 It sounds painful, doesn't it? But I'm curious with you, how long have you been living the same life? How long have you been stuck in your current comfort zone? Don't get comfortable. The reason why we stay in our comfort zones is because we know if we want to make something great of our life, if we want to live up to our true potential, there's going to be failure along the way. And it's easier to do nothing than it is to actually go out and fail. People try to avoid failure, rejection, other people's opinions as much as they possibly can. And it's not going to be easy. Your change that you have to go through to create the life that you want, to have the potential that you really
Starting point is 00:05:49 want to bring out into the world, it's not going to be easy. There's going to need to be change. And that change, it's going to be hard. It's easier to not change. It's easier to not follow your dreams. It's easier to just sit on the couch and scroll through Instagram and just let life pass you by. It's easy. It's physically easier, but mentally, it's harder. It's so much harder mentally on yourself to just get by because you know deep down inside that there's a part of you that's just dying. It's dying. And to wake up and know that you're living a life that's a lie, you're living a life that's not what you want, you're living a life that's not fully up to your potential, that, my friends, that's soul-crushing. It's easier physically to not go after your goals. But mentally,
Starting point is 00:06:47 in your soul, it's soul crushing. I remember before I started this podcast, before I started my coaching business, before I did what I do now, I went through a mini depression. I was making great money. I was a 27-year-old that was making amazing money. I was working from home and I was hardly working. If I'm being honest, I was maybe working like 15 hours a week and I was making great money. I was making more money than I ever had, but my soul was slowly dying and I could feel it. I could feel that feeling of if I don't do anything about it, I'm going to be here forever. And I'm going to wake up at 45 years old and I'm going to hate myself. My soul was slowly dying. And I remember being like, God, just help me figure out what I'm
Starting point is 00:07:29 supposed to do with my life. I'll do anything. I'll work as hard as I need to. I just can't keep doing what I'm doing now. And people don't like change. We don't like change. The brain, your brain does not like change. And the reason why is because your brain is designed to keep you safe. And your brain knows that if you're inside of your comfort zone, if you're doing the same things over and over again that you've been doing for so long, you are safe. And so your brain tries to keep you inside of your comfort zone. Anything outside of that comfort zone is a threat to the brain. Now, you know, if you have a goal this year of making $100,000 and you've never passed 65,
Starting point is 00:08:07 you know that by making $100,000 and putting in the work and making some extra cold calls or knocking on more doors or whatever it might be, you know that you're not going to die by putting in the extra work needed to get to $100,000 this year. But mentally, your brain, the tiny little bit of your brain, the amygdala, the fear-based part of your brain is like, nope, red flag, red flag, red flag. We've never done that before. We've never worked that hard. And that is a threat to the brain. Our brain is used to doing things one way. You know, who here listening has ever driven home from somewhere like work or someone that you've been a million times, your parents' house, and you get to your house and you're like, how the hell did I just
Starting point is 00:08:47 get here? It's autopilot. Your brain wants to go onto autopilot. So to do something new, it uses a lot of energy. To do something that you've done before, to go onto autopilot, autopilot is an energy-saving device that your brain creates. So we have to know that we have to embrace the change that we need in order to be uncomfortable, to know that we're not going to be comfortable in everything that we do. I'm going to give you a quick example. Ready? Go ahead and do this for me. Fold your arms real quick. Just fold your arms. If you're driving, don't fold your arms. But if you're listening to me and you're at your house or you're inside of the gym or you're going on a run, whatever it is, fold your arms real quick.
Starting point is 00:09:30 And now I want you to do this. Fold your arms the other way. So if your left hand was on top before, now put your right hand on top. Do it real quick. It feels awkward, doesn't it? Isn't it weird to realize that your brain has created a way to fold your arms exactly the same every single time and to do something different, even if it's just folding your arms a different way, feels awkward. And we don't like awkward. Your brain doesn't like awkward. And doing things that are different feels awkward. It puts us in an uncomfortable situation. It's like trying to walk when you've never walked before. You're like a newborn giraffe and you got these little wiggly legs. It's uncomfortable. It doesn't feel 100% right.
Starting point is 00:10:11 But we have to do those things. We have to make the little changes so that we can become great. What could you look like? What could you look like if you tried to accomplish more? What could the world look like if they tried to accomplish more? And I got a question for you. I want you to think about this. Out of a level 10, and I mean 10 is absolute perfection that you're living your life at. If you could be a zero to 10, zero means like your life is in complete shambles. 10 means your life is perfect. There is literally nothing that can be done to make your life any better. What level are you living your life out at a 10? I ask this question pretty often with people when I give speeches. It's like a five, a six, maybe a seven. Well, if you're at a seven, what does an eight look like? What is you living your
Starting point is 00:10:57 life at eight look like? What is you living your life at nine look like? What does your life look like if you lived your life at a level 10? And here's the thing. Each number that you go up, so from seven to eight, from eight to nine, from nine to 10, each number that you up, life doesn't get 10% better. It gets exponentially better. It gets 10 times better. Could you imagine if you went out there and tried to live up to your full potential every single day? If you woke up every single morning and your only intention was, I'm going to try to live this hour from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at a level 10, from 10 to 11 at a level 10, and that was your intention was to live your life to 100% your full potential. Imagine what your life could be like if you did that for the next six months. Imagine what your life could be like if you did that for the next six months.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Imagine what your life could be like if you did that for the next year. You would be a different person in a different place with a different skillset and set of circumstances and happiness level and joy level and bank account than you currently are right now. Now, let me ask you this. What if every single person tried to get 100% out of every single day?
Starting point is 00:12:06 What would the world look like? Instead of just coming home and watching TV, getting on Netflix, do you know what we could accomplish as a species? Anything. If we can do that, I'm pretty sure that every single one of us can figure out a way if we were to team up to fix what we've screwed up here on Earth.
Starting point is 00:14:56 If we just work together, what if every single person tried to accomplish more? Because you know what the average person's day looks like? People wake up, they eat some cereal, they drink some coffee, they drive the same way to work they always have. They work at a place that doesn't fully light them up. It might be okay. It might be bad. They might work for someone that they hate. They might work with other people that they hate. Then they hang out with the same people at lunch. They eat the same food. They drive home. They take a meal. They put it in the microwave. They watch the same shows on Netflix. Throughout the day, they take a couple dumps and then they just go to bed.
Starting point is 00:15:35 And then they wake up and do the exact same thing over and over and over again. And they can't wait for the weekend. Realizing that the weekend is just an arbitrary day, like somewhere along the way, someone decided to make up Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. And it means that they're waiting to get to the weekend so they can just feel free from this life that they created for themselves. It means that they're wasting five days of their life waiting for two days. And you want to know my opinion? I think the best thing that happened to humans,
Starting point is 00:16:11 the best thing that happened to life is death. Death is the best thing to happen to your life. Why? Because it gives your life urgency. Have you ever had somebody die that you're close to? And then you start to rethink your life? What happens when they die? We forget how short life is and we're like, oh my God, this person's not coming back. And there will be a moment that this will happen to me and I won't come back. We start to realize life is so short.
Starting point is 00:16:36 Life is so fragile. And we start to look at it and go, man, maybe I shouldn't be doing what I'm doing with my life. Maybe I should try to live up to my potential. Maybe I should follow my dreams. And then we think that way for a day or two days or three days. And then we start to go back and we fall into old patterns, fall into old habits. And I want you to think like, are you living up to your full potential? And if today was your last day, would you be proud of what you've done or would you wish that you had done more? What does your full potential even look like? Have you ever planned that out with a pen and paper? Have you ever thought about that? Sat down and said, what could my life look like? What could I look like? What could my children's life look like? What can my family's life look like? What can my bank account look like? What can my happiness,
Starting point is 00:17:23 life look like? What can my family's life look like? What can my bank account look like? What can my happiness, what can my joy look like? If I stepped up, if I stopped living the same freaking day every freaking day, and I decided to step up and go, you know what? I'm going to live today at a level 10. I'm going to live today at a level 10. I'm not going to worry about tomorrow. I'm not going to worry about yesterday. I'm not even going to worry about this afternoon. I'm going to worry about making this morning a level 10 morning. And then when I get into the afternoon, all I'm going to worry about is how can I make at a level 10 afternoon. And I'm going to commit to myself, to my family, to everyone that I love. I'm going to commit to making small steps to getting closer to the best version of myself every single day. And that's all that you have to do. You don't have to worry about tomorrow.
Starting point is 00:18:04 And here's the thing. When you're looking at your goals, the thing about goals, I love them. I think they're great. I think they're a great way to set your GPS on what direction you're going to. But when you look at it and you say, my goal is to have a million dollars in my bank account. And you look at your bank account and there's 10, that seems like it's a really, really far ways away. And it can be demotivating that your goals are so big and where you currently are is not where you want to be. And it looks so far away to be able to get that $999,990 in your bank account, if that's what you're shooting for. But if you just go, you know what?
Starting point is 00:18:38 Today, I'm going to take actions to get $10 more in my bank account and then a little bit more. Whatever your goal is, whether it's money, whether it's happiness, whether it's joy, whether it's happiness, whether it's joy, whether it's love, whether it's peace, how can you just focus on committing to take small, little, teeny, tiny steps to get you further and to focus on living at a level 10?
Starting point is 00:18:56 It's like Will Smith says. He says, picture your life as a wall, and each day you get to lay one brick, just one, no more. And all you have to do is not focus on building an entire wall. It's not focused on making this big, massive, beautiful wall. Because if you think about the massive wall that needs to be made, man, that can be demotivating.
Starting point is 00:19:16 Because you start thinking about how long that's going to take, how long into the future it's going to take for you to have to get there. Don't worry about building the entire wall. Just focus on taking the brick that you have today it's going to take for you to have to get there. Don't worry about building the entire wall. Just focus on taking the brick that you have today and just laying it as perfectly as you can. Perfectly. And that's getting the most out of every single day. And when he was a kid, his dad actually had him, his brother, do this. He had him build a wall for the shop that he had. And he said, I don't care about the entire wall.
Starting point is 00:19:45 I just care about each brick. Lay this brick the best that you possibly can. And if you think about today as just how can I lay this brick? How can I get a level 10 day out of today? And you do it today and you do it tomorrow and you do it the next day. In the end, you'll look at your life and realize you built this amazing, beautiful, perfect wall, not by focusing on the entire wall, but by focusing on one brick at a time. What does today look like? What do you need to do today to make it a level 10? Take out your pen and paper, ask yourself that question, and focus on just bringing a level 10 into everything that you do just today. And at the end of your life, you'll look back and you'll have one amazing, big, beautiful life.
