Starting point is 00:02:02 Okay, so today what I'm going to be talking about, I'm going to go into another motivational speech. Another speech is going to get you fired up. Another one that you can listen to multiple times in a day to get you fired up, to get you to where you want to be. And the question that I have for you is, do you ever feel like things are not working out? Do you ever feel like your life is a failure? Or do you wish that you had experienced more success at this point in time of your life? I'm going to tell you about one of the greatest, most successful failures that the world has ever known. Walt Disney dropped out of high school at the age of 16 because he didn't feel like he was a very good student. And after bouncing from job to job, he eventually became an animator.
Starting point is 00:02:45 Within one year of being an animator, he was fired from his job because his boss told him that he was lazy and he quote unquote lacked imagination and creative ideas. At the age of 21, he started his first animation business called Laugh-O-Grams. this company sold exactly zero cartoons. Zero cartoons. And by the age of 22, he was so poor that he was sleeping in his studio, living off of a diet of cold canned beans, and he eventually had to file bankruptcy in that company. But this wouldn't be his first bankruptcy. He went bankrupt multiple times. He eventually had a nervous breakdown, which made him question if following his passion for cartooning was really what he should be doing with his life. He would eventually find a little
Starting point is 00:03:35 bit of success in cartooning, but he lost the rights to his first successful cartoon to Universal Studios. And not only did they take his cartoon, they also took his entire team of animators, leaving him with zero employees. On the train ride back from the meeting where he had learned that he lost his cartoon and his team of animators, he saw a mouse running across the inside of the train. That mouse would become the inspiration for Mickey Mouse. And the rest is history. From there, he would become the first animator with sound, animation with sound, which was called Steamboat Willie.
Starting point is 00:04:15 In 1937, he would become the first full-length animator for a little bit of a movie called Snow White, which won his first Academy Award. And over the next five years, Disney would put out the classics such as Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, and Bambi. He would eventually make his first major theme park for children, Disneyland, an idea that people called him crazy for pursuing. And by the time of his death, Walt Disney, that guy who had no creativity and was lazy, had won 32 Academy Awards and still holds the record to this day for the most Oscars won by an individual.
Starting point is 00:04:55 Now, success is not only money, but Disney as a company now has a revenue of over $40 billion per year. All of that from an unimaginative guy that filed bankruptcy multiple times. So the next time that you feel like things are not working out and you feel like giving up, remember this story. In the end, our own success is defined by what happens to us and in our persistence in that defeat. And Disney said this, and this is how I will wrap up. All the adversity that I've had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles have strengthened me.
Starting point is 00:05:33 You may not realize it when it happens, but a good kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you. So if you like this episode, please share it with someone that you know and someone that you love. And I'm going to leave it the same way every single episode.
