Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor podcast. I'm your host, Rob Dial. And
if you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button since you never miss another podcast
episode. Today, what we're going to be talking about is one of the most important things
to hit your New Year's resolutions. We're going to talk about the New Year's resolutions that you have, some of the things that I see with people that they make
massive mistakes. And one of the things that I think is the most important for actually hitting
your goals. And it's probably one of the most overlooked pieces of success that might be also
the most important piece of success. And it's funny because people talk about it sometimes,
but they don't talk about it, I think, as much as they should. And if I could give you a massive, massive
tip for making 2021 better, right? 2020, it's going to be in the past in just a few days. It's
about to be gone, right? So when it is gone, let's leave it in the past. Whether this year was amazing
for you or whether this year was just a big old pile of stinky crap, whatever it was, don't bring it into 2021. 2021, I'm going to tell you is this, a massive, massive tip that I can
give you is to be consistent, right? I can't tell you how many people send me messages and the
message is something like this, Rob, I'm really good at starting, but I'm really terrible at
finishing. Do you have some tips on how to stay consistent with my goals to make sure that I hit them?
Almost everybody, just so you guys know, if you're out there and you're like, I have trouble
staying consistent. I'm really good at starting stuff. I'm really bad at finishing things.
If you're in that boat, almost every single person that's listening to my voice right now
is in that boat. Most people
are really good at starting and they're terrible at finishing. And the reason why is because
finishing is what like to continue to keep doing something that's outside of your comfort zone,
pulls you out of that comfort zone. And the comfort zone itself is the scary thing to get out of.
And so everyone gets excited for New Year's Eve and they're so excited for the new year.
And oh my God, it's a new year. I'm so excited. I hit my New Year's resolutions. I have a list
of 74 things I'm going to manifest over the 2021. Everybody has this shitload of list of things that
they want to accomplish. And they're so excited about it and they do really well on day one.
And then day two, they're all excited. They do really well on day two and day four, five, six,
seven. By day 10,
they've stopped doing the majority of things that are on that list. And that's the problem is that most people have too many goals. You have to think of this in the long run, right?
Like, so I'll give you an example for me. I'm 34 years old. I've been setting goals for,
you know, I first started when I was 19. So it's been about 15 years now, right? For me, I know that the years that I've done the best, my list has been extremely short.
I've been excited. I've made a list of a hundred things I want to create over the next year.
Literally, I have before a hundred things I want to create over the next year. And that's great.
And you could definitely create the list. But then after you create the list, boil it down to one thing.
If you do nothing else over the next year and you just do one thing,
what would that one thing be?
Just think about that.
Because most people have paralysis by analysis.
They're like, okay, I'm gonna have a morning routine
and this is my morning routine.
It's gonna consist of 74 different things
that I'm gonna do within a 48 minute period.
And then what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna do this
and I'm gonna do this and I'm gonna do this and it's just too much. And what you have to realize is what I
always say to myself and I say to people that I've coached is how can I make this easier on myself?
Right. So if I have a list of 482 things that I want to accomplish over next year,
and I try to accomplish every single one of them or take one step towards each one of them every
single day, I'm probably going to catch neither of them, none of them. And it's kind of like the Chinese parable, the Chinese quote that says,
if you try to catch two rabbits at the same time, you'll catch neither one. If you try to catch two
rabbits at the same time, you'll catch neither one. You have to focus on one of the rabbits and
go for just that rabbit. So one of my biggest goals or one of my biggest tips I can give you for 2021 is this, just focus on being extremely disciplined and extremely consistent with one thing.
If you think, let's fast forward to end of 2021. It's December 31st, 2021, and you're looking at
what you've created. If there was one thing that could change your life, if you were consistent with it
every single day for 365 days, what would it be? What would it be? Just think about that. Think
about your most important goal that you want to stay consistent with every single day. If you
just accomplish that one thing, if it's the most important out of everything, you will make massive
strides in your life. And
what it will do is it will tend to affect other areas of your life. So let's just say working out.
What would your 2021 look like at the end of 2021? What would your body look like if you just worked
out every single day? Nothing else. I don't care about anything else because everything else will work itself out. That's what's interesting about it. But if you were
to take the most important thing, what would it be? What would your body look like if you worked
out every single day for 2021? Okay, maybe that's yours. Maybe it's not. Let's say diet is yours.
If you just stuck to a specific diet for 365 days, what would your body look like at the end of this
year? It'd probably look incredible, right? It'd look way better. Maybe you'd lose the fat you want
to. Maybe you gain the muscle that you want to. Okay, let's try something else. What if you were
to say, you know what? This year has been stressful as hell. I've been anxious way too much. I've been
stressed. I've been anxious. I've been sad. My emotions have been all over the place. My number one thing is to work on my emotions
over the next year. So I'm going to meditate for whatever, 10 minutes every single day for
20 minutes every single morning. That's the only thing I need to do. I don't need to worry about
the rest of my life. I just need to meditate for 20 minutes every single day and the rest of my
life will work itself out. What would your emotions look like? What would your inner dialogue and the way that you think
and the way that you feel and the way that you process the world and how much joy and how much
peace you have, what would it look like if literally all you did was make sure that you
meditated every single day for 365 days? Where would you be at the end of this year? Think about that.
Maybe it's read 10 pages every single day. What do you feel like you'd feel like if you went through, you know, what would that be? If it's about average book is around 300, 350 pages.
What if you went through a book a month? Where do you think you'd be mentally and intellectually
at the end of this year? If you read 12 books, what do you think you'd be?
What do you think you'd feel about yourself? Would you be motivated towards working towards
your goal? Maybe it's that you want to become a lot better at business and you're going to
read 12 business books, right? What do you think your business would be?

Think about that. Maybe it's something that has nothing to do with your own personal growth.
Maybe it's you want to spend one hour every single day
of undivided attention with your kids.
You're gonna put your phone in the other room.
You're gonna take the TV.
You're gonna turn it off.
You're gonna take your computer.
You're gonna put it away
and you're gonna spend one hour every single day.
What would your relationship with your children look like
if you spent 365 really incredible undivided attention hours with your children over the next year.
Just think about that, everybody. And so when you think about your New Year's resolutions,
I'm not saying don't have a lot of goals. What I'm saying is if you have a lot of goals and
things you're working towards, I want you to stay consistent and really focus on one of them.
Consistency is key. Consistency is key. People ask me how I've had a successful
podcast. I say, well, I've never missed an episode in five and a half years. We're almost at 900
episodes. I've never missed an episode. That's the only way that I've done it. I've just not stopped.
So many people start a podcast and then they're like, oh yeah, well, I'll just go ahead and skip for
this week. I'll skip for this month. I'll just make a season and then I'll just come back to
another time. Right? Like what would it look like if you just decided to stay consistent with one
thing? What if you decided to stay consistent with just working on your relationship for 30 minutes
every single day with your spouse, with your significant other? What would your, what would
your, what would your world look like if you had an incredible
relationship, the best relationship you've ever had? How much happier would you be each day?
If that part of your life was just taken care of, what would it look like? Just one thing.
Have you ever been hardcore focused into one thing? Here's the key. Consistency is key. And what I always say is success is not like this big,
massive event, like one massive event happens in someone's life. Success is literally consistency.
It is doing the things every single day. And success is usually not sexy.
It isn't. Success is doing the boring things that need to be done every single day,
making sure they get done, making sure you check them off your list. And if you do that every day,
every day, every day, every day for a year, two years, three years, five years, it compounds on
top of itself. And within three years, four years, five years, you're light years ahead of everybody
else. That's just the way that success works. You look at people who are like Will Smith,
for instance, you're like, oh my God, he was an incredible rapper. And then he turned into an
incredible, you know, he won Grammys and he won a bunch of awards as a rapper. And then he won a
bunch of awards as an actor and he made tons of money and was successful at both of them. How did
he do it? He just focused on one thing at a time. He went hardcore and just becoming a
great rapper. And then from rapper, he went into, you know what, I'm just going to be an actor.
And then he got so hardcore into acting. I remember watching a video where they said that
there was a problem the first year of when he was in Fresh Prince. The problem was he didn't just
memorize his own lines. He memorized everybody's lines because he wanted to make sure he was on
point with how
everything was supposed to go and he didn't miss a beat. And part of the problem is if you watch
season one, you can actually see him lipping and actually like lip syncing some of the people's
words of what they're saying at that time because he has it memorized and he doesn't want to mess
up. He was just like, this is my thing and I'm going to be hardcore focused at it.
is my thing and I'm going to be hardcore focused at it. So what's your thing? Is it your fitness?
Is it your body? Is it your mind? Is it your business? Is it your relationships? Is it your health? I don't know what it is. What is it for you? And I want you to write down with a pen and
paper right now, this is the thing that I'm going to stay consistent with and do every single day.
It's the boring things done every single day that
make your life incredible years down the road. That's one of the things that I hate about
Instagram. I was scrolling through Instagram yesterday. I saw some dude that was putting up
pictures of his penthouse and all the parties that he was throwing and all of the money he had
and the cars and all that stuff. And I'm like, what you need to show is you need to show the
things that you did to get you there. That's you need to show is you need to show the things that
you did to get you there. That's what's more inspiring to me, not having the things. I want
to see what you had to do every single day to get there. I want to see the tough days. I don't want
to see the highlight reel. I want to see the days where you were sitting in your bathroom crying
because it wasn't working out. I want you to talk about that because you know how many people are
in that situation? Yeah, a lot more people than people that are,
you know, sitting in the penthouse throwing money around and showing off their cars and everything.
So it's being consistent. Can you get to the penthouse? Absolutely. But you've got to go one
floor at a time to get to the penthouse. Some people think they can go from the ground floor
to the fucking penthouse and they have to skip every single floor. No, you have to literally
work your way up. That's the way that it works. But working your way up means doing boring things and staying
consistent on a day in day out basis. So where would you be? Let's dream about it. Where would
you be in 365 days if you just stay consistent with one thing? Where would your body be? Where
would your mind be? Where would your relationships be? Where would your children be? Where would your mind be? Where would your relationships be? Where would your children be? Where would your bank account be if you just decided to stop giving yourself the BS excuses?
One of the things that I love about our mind is this. Your mind does not stop you from taking
action. And you might be like, well, no, no, no, no, no, Rob. You have to realize that my mind
stops me from taking action all the time. No, you conceding to your mind is what stops you from taking action.
Your mind doesn't hold you back from anything. What holds you back is you're listening to your
mind. You can have the negative thoughts. You cannot believe in yourself. You can hate yourself
and still say, I don't care. I'm going to do it anyways. I don't care if I look like this. I don't
care if I'm 75 pounds overweight
and I hate my body. I'm still going to show up at the gym every single day. You don't have to
believe in yourself in order to take action. Your mind is not what's holding you back. You
are holding you back. You are holding you back from everything that you want. That's what it is.
That's the thing. That's the thing that I love about consistency. It's the reason why I do the Iron Mind 30 every single year with people is because people just
won't do something every single day for 30 days. And just allowing yourself or forcing yourself
and not listening to yourself and going, I'm going to do this even though I don't feel like it
every single day for 30 days and having a group of people that are holding you accountable to that
will push you to do better. That's the
reason why I love it is because some people have never done anything for 30 days in a row towards
their own success, towards their own happiness, towards their own mindset, towards their own body.
Some people have never done anything for 30 days in a row. Imagine what could happen and how your
life could change if you just did something for 30 days in a row. And then after it starts to
become more of a habit, you do it every single day. Success is not hard, everybody. It's really freaking simple.
You just do what you need to do. Will your mind come up and start talking trash to you?
Absolutely. Every single day, every single hour, maybe every single minute as well.
But just because your mind pops in and says, stop doing this, doesn't mean that you have to listen to your mind. It doesn't. And that's what's amazing about it.
Some people are like, well, my mind holds me back. No, you hold you back. You're conceding
to your mind. The difference between a successful person, unsuccessful person is not what's going on
in their mind. The difference between unsuccessful person, successful person is that the successful
person takes action regardless of what their mind says to them. So if you're out there and you're the difference between an unsuccessful person successful person is as a successful person
takes action regardless of what their mind says to them so if you're out there and you're like i
haven't been taking the action that i need to it's not your mind holding you back it's you holding
you back stop conceding to your mind stop doing the things that are holding you back all i want
you to do is focus on one thing this year one. How can you make your life as easy as possible?
Figure out what your one thing is for the year and only focus on doing that every single day.
And then look back December 31st, 2021, and I guarantee you, your life, your bank account,
your happiness, your body, your mind, your relationships, every aspect of your life will shift from focusing on one thing. That's the secret.
Stay consistent with one thing. Let everything else work itself out because it will,
and it will work itself out for the better. But if you focus on this one thing and this
one thing only, you will have the success that you want. So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
If you love this episode, please share it with someone that you know and love. Also,
if you're out there and you want to join the Iron Mind 30, which is my group,
we're over the course of 30 days starting January 1st. I'm going to be going live inside of a
private Facebook group every single day, teaching you lessons to improve your life.
And we're going to be sticking and staying consistent with six pillars every single day.
If you want to learn more about it, I have a 12-minute video that explains the entire thing
to you. If you just go to ironmind30.com, you can watch it there. Once again, it's ironmind30.com.
And I'm going to leave the same way, leave you every single episode, make it your mission,
make someone else's day better. I appreciate you. And I hope that you have an amazing day.
