tips and tricks every single Monday so that you can continue to improve your mindset,
not just by listening to the podcast, but also through some other forms of media for me.
So today, I'm going to be talking to you about what I think is my number one key to success.
I personally, if I'm being honest with you, I feel like I've built a life that I am proud of.
I checked off most of the boxes that I wanted to check off my life as far as business and success
and wealth and relationships and traveling and all that stuff. So I can feel, I feel like I
can consider myself qualified to give you advice on this. And my number one key to
success is not that sexy. Just going to be honest with you. So I really don't hear it that often.
So if you're thinking, oh, is it hard work and dedication? No, I think both of those are extremely
important, but they're not my number one key to success. And in reality, this actually might be a little bit of a surprise to you.
So here it is. My number one key to success in my mind is patience. Patience. And I will explain why
I think that it is in this episode. And I have a few other keys and mindset shifts to help this
go a little bit deeper and to make all of this possible as well. But I want you just to
understand, for you to be successful in growing a business, you're going to have some sort of
competition, for instance, right? You're going to have some sort of competition that you're
going to be against, whether it's other people or whether it's just yourself. And in a world where
everything is immediate, you have to realize that if you're creating a product and creating a
company, you're not really against other companies and their products. You're against the people who
are running that company. And the one thing that I find is that more and more people have become
less and less patient over time. Everything is immediate nowadays. We can immediately get any
answer to any question that we've, I always say like, there's no question that has not been
Googled before, right? There's every answer that you ever want. If you want food delivered,
it can be delivered to your doorstep. If you don't have to leave your house ever,
everything can be delivered to you. Like today, your knowledge can be delivered to you. If you
want to watch a movie, you don't have to go to Blockbuster like you used to. You don't have to
order it and then have it sent to your house. You can just literally watch pretty much any movie
that's ever been created. So everything is so immediate.
And if we want to set ourselves apart from everybody else,
we need to, instead of thinking
that we want everything immediately,
we need to start doing the exact opposite.
We need to go, you know what?
I will set myself apart when I am more patient
because success is not immediate.
You know that.
Like, let's be real.
If somebody went into the gym and came out the next
day and they're like, why don't I have a six pack? And they're pissed off about it. You'd be like,
you're crazy. Why? Because building the body that you want takes time. It doesn't just happen by
going one time. It doesn't happen by going for a month, two months, three months. Sometimes it
takes a year, two years, five years. It takes long-term dedicated patience and action towards the
goal that somebody is looking to go towards, right? So success is not immediate either.
A lot of times we think that we see somebody and they're successful and just because they
finally pop up and we see them as success, we're like, oh my gosh, they just, they popped out of
nowhere, right? And it seems like they have this massive company, but you didn't see the five to
10 to 15 years of hard work,
of accumulating knowledge and skills and the patience that they had to literally just know
that eventually it was going to happen. So to us, it could look like a meteoric rise to the top,
but in reality, it was a really, really slow burn for a long time, a really slow burn for a long time. And I want you
to understand that. It's like the, you've heard me talk about it before on the podcast, the Chinese
bamboo, right? The Chinese bamboo, the first five years, it doesn't even get out of the soil.
And then on the sixth year, after six years of watering it, of sunlight, of watering it,
of sunlight, in the sixth year, it grows up to 80 feet in a few
weeks. Sometimes it'll grow two feet a day. You can literally watch it grow. And that's how success
is for a lot of people. It's a lot of work and work and work and not a whole lot of success right
away. Like people nowadays are expecting that they're going to start a business and it's going
to be just massively profitable business within three months. That's ridiculous to think that.
Sometimes it takes six months, a year, two years, five ridiculous to think that. Sometimes it takes six
months, a year, two years, five years to get there. And most people just aren't patient enough. Most
people aren't persistent and patient to be able to put in the work to actually get things done
and to actually get to where they want to go. So before you can be patient, you of course have to
decide what you want. You have to know what you want in the first place, right? So this is the first step. So, you know, before I start driving my car, I have to decide
where I'm going to be driving to. Otherwise I'm just going to wander around. And too many people
are just wandering around in their lives, right? And once you've decided what you want,
get rid of any other options. That's it. That's all you got to do. You've heard me say before,
there's no reason to have a plan B
because plan B distracts from plan A. Instead of, you know, people say, oh, don't put all your eggs
in one basket. No, no, no. Put all your eggs in one basket and then take care of that basket is
what you should do. You have to make up your mind. You have to figure out what it is that you want,
and you have to burn the ships. You know, there's a story of a Spanish contesador that would
come over on ships, these wooden ships with his troops.
And he was so afraid that they would want to retreat that when they landed on shore,
he just had them burn the ships because it's like, hey, either we're succeeding here or we're dying.
That's what your mindset has to be. And when your mindset is, this is the thing I'm going to do and
there is no other thing, you then realize, oh, I've got a long time ahead of me. So when I see
people who are in the same industry as me
and doing the same type of stuff with me,
I don't worry about that.
I don't worry about competition.
I don't worry about any of that stuff.
I'm 36 years old.
Hopefully I live to 96.
That's my grandfather lived to, right?
That means I got another 60 years.
I can be patient.
And as long as I just keep going,
I know that there's going to be people
that are going to pop up along the way.
There's going to be people who are disappear along the way.
But there is no other option for me. There is nothing else that I'm going to do. that are going to pop up along the way. There's going to be people who are disappear along the way, but there is no other option for me.
There is nothing else that I'm going to do.
And so when you have that idea of like, hey, this is what I'm going to do.
And I'm going to do this thing and I'm fully dedicated to this thing,
which is hard to find.
I get it.
And as I always say, if you don't know what it is that your passion or your purpose is,
it's okay right now, but it's not okay to wake up every single day
and not be in constant pursuit for that thing. If you don't know what your passion is, you's okay right now, but it's not okay to wake up every single day and not be
in constant pursuit for that thing. If you don't know what your passion is, you've got to figure
it out. You've got to wake up every single day and like a heat seeking missile, try to find that
thing every single day that you're alive, right? So you've got to decide what it is. You've got to
find it. Then you've got to decide what it is in the first place. And then you've got to just get
rid of all other options. You've got to say there is no other option. What is it? It's like the Eminem quote, success is my only motherfucking
option, failure is not. That's the way you have to think about it. And now a word from our sponsor,
BetterHelp. You know me, I'm obsessed with making sure my mind is the best that it could possibly
be. And think about this. How well would you take care of your car if you knew you had to keep that
car your entire life?
Well, you have your brain your entire life, and that's how they work.
So why don't we treat them with the same amount of care?
How we care for our mind affects how we experience life, and that's why it's so important to invest time and care into keeping them healthy.
There's plenty of ways to support a healthy brain, like learning a new language, taking power naps, but there's also better help online therapy.
a new language, taking power notes, but there's also BetterHelp online therapy. One of the things that I think every single person should do at some point in time in their life is see a therapist
and see if there's things that they need to work through. BetterHelp is online therapy that offers
video, phone, and even live chat therapy sessions. So you don't have to see anyone on camera if you
don't want to. It's also much more affordable than in-person therapy, and you could be matched with a therapist
in under 48 hours. And our listeners of the Mindset Mentor get 10% off their first month
at betterhelp.com slash dial. That's betterhelp.com slash dial. Hey, did you know that getting less
sleep than six to seven hours per night is linked to reduced white blood cell count? White blood
cells protect our body against illness, fight diseases, viruses, bacteria, and more. And not many people realize
this, but having a consistent nighttime routine is so important that a better tomorrow actually
starts tonight. One of the things that I know is when I don't get the sleep that I need to,
I can always feel it the next day. And that's why Beam Dream is amazing. Beam is the world's
most innovative functional wellness brand
with unique products for everything from sleep to recovery.
And today, my listeners get a special discount available
for Beam's sleep product called Dream Powder.
Their best-selling healthy hot cocoa.
It contains natural sleep-promoting premium ingredients,
triple lab tests, and no THC so you wake up refreshed.
98% of people surveyed fall asleep faster when taking Beam Dream
and 99% of them experience better sleep quality. I tried this stuff. It tastes amazing and I slept
like a rock. If you tried and you don't love it, you can get your money back guaranteed.
And for a limited time, get 40% off of your subscription of your first order or 20% off

So if you know, hey, you know, you're 35 years old, hopefully you're going to live to 95.
You got 60 years on this road.
For some people, if you're 35 and you start on this path, you might have success at 37.
You might have success at 39.
It might be 45.
It might be 65.
But eventually you're going to get to where you want to go.
The important thing is that you become patient. Because the one thing that I know is that number one, most people don't start.
Most people don't start at what it is that they want to do.
And that is just a fact.
So as long as you start, you're already way ahead of the pact.
And then number two, most people who start give up very soon.
And so when you see the people who are around you,
and you see people who might've been your
competition or whatever it is they might be, realize the majority of the people are going
to be giving up very soon. And so if you just don't give up, if you remain patient, if you
just continue to persist and keep putting in the work and keep putting in the work and keep putting
in the work, you're eventually going to get to where you want to go. That's a beautiful thing,
isn't it? Now let's just say you don't
want to worry about business. And let's say that health is your thing that you want to be working
on. Maybe you're overweight. Maybe you want to lose some weight. You want to get into better
shape. You also want to just take better care of yourself. Okay. Well, it's not going to happen
overnight. It's not going to happen. You know, I saw a video the other day of a guy who lost
150 pounds and it took him two years to lose 150 pounds. Two years requires patience. It requires
persistence. It requires daily action in the right direction. But eventually he got to the place where
he wanted to be. He lost like 150 pounds or something like that. And the transformation
was massive when you see it, but it didn't happen overnight. There is a massive amount of patience required in success.
And I always say there's only a couple things that really it takes to hit a goal. If you've
been listening long enough, you've heard me say before, it requires direction, it requires action,
it requires time. Direction. Are you heading in the right direction to achieve your goals?
You know, I always say if I get into my car and I just head
north, I'm in Austin, north of us is Dallas, I'll eventually end up in Dallas. If I start walking,
if I take a bike, if I crawl north, any of those things, I will eventually end up in Dallas.
The direction is more important than the speed. So am I heading the right direction? Number two,
now that I know the right direction, am I taking the right actions to line up with that direction? And then number three,
time. Time will just work itself out. It's going to work out the way that it's supposed to. And
there's many things that just across the universe just take time. Success takes time. Ladies, if
you've ever had a baby before, imagine if your husband would have come up to you while you're in
the middle of, you know,
let's say you're six months in
and your husband looks at his watch and he's like,
honey, do you think we could, could we hurry this up?
Like, I really want to go on vacation
before the end of the year.
You'd want to slap that man, wouldn't you?
You'd be like, this is ridiculous.
It takes eight to nine months to have a baby.
Most of the time.
Are they premature and all this stuff?
Sure.
But it takes about nine months to have a baby.
It'd be ridiculous if he came up to you at four or five months and he's like, hey, can we just
get this done? Like, are you ready to go? Can you speed up the process? It'd be ridiculous. Why?
Because we know across the universe, humans, it takes about nine months to have a baby.
That's what it takes. Well, your success, your happiness, your health journey that you're on,
all these journeys that you're on, take a certain amount of time. You've got to be able to just give up the expectation that it's
going to happen soon, that it's going to happen in a year, that it's going to happen in two years.
And the only thing that you've got to really be focused on is, am I heading in the right direction?
Am I taking the right action? And the time will work itself out. And I was saying this the other
day to my fiance, we were driving back from dinner.
And I said, you know what's really cool about life?
What's really cool is I remember being 19 years old
and I remember reading books and wanting success
and wanting to make money
and wanting to create something for my life.
And I was reading these books
and these books were giving me information
that I felt was true.
And I trusted it, not knowing if it was true or
not. But it was talking about working hard. It was talking about patience. It was talking about
persistence. It was talking about working on yourself every single day, self-improvement.
It's talking about all these things. And there was something that felt like it rung true inside
of me of like, this feels like it's true. I had no idea if that shit was actually true though.
But 17 years ago, I trusted it and I worked towards it and it felt right. And I worked towards it and it felt right. It worked towards it and it felt right.
It's cool now that I'm 36 and I've been on this path for 17 years to go,
holy crap, all of those books were right. Not one of them lied to me. Not one of them were false.
Everything that I read from them was exactly what I needed to hear and all of them helped me on the
path that I'm on.
And that's what's cool about it.
It might not be a year, two years, three years.
It might be 17 years down the road until you finally get what you want.
But getting what you want in life is way better than living your entire life, 90, 95 years old and not getting what you want.
If it takes you 15, 16, 17 years like it did for me, I'm here to tell you it's still worth it.
So what you have to realize is you can get whatever it is that you want in this life.
You just have to be heading in the right direction, taking the right action,
and you have to realize that time will work itself out.
You have to be patient.
Don't stop moving.
It doesn't matter how fast you go.
It just matters that you go in the right direction.
And so the thing I really want you to get from this podcast episode is that
whatever it is that you want, you can go out and get it. And that's the beautiful thing about being
a human. That's the other thing that I told her when we were driving. I was like, it's so cool
that as a human, you can do and create and be whatever it is that you want. That's how the
whole conversation actually started for us. I was like, it is so cool. You can just decide to be something
different today. And you can stay on that path and you will be a completely different person in a
year, in five years, in 10 years. That's awesome in my mind. That's amazing. Mastery and then path
of mastery and becoming who you want to become is an amazing thing for us all to understand.
But we've got to understand more than anything else, these things will take time.
We can create ourself into whoever we want to be.
But just like the Chinese bamboo, it might take five years, six years before it finally
pops out.
But when it does pop out and it grows 60 feet, you can look back and go, man, I'm so glad
that I made those decisions to become the person I wanted to become.
I'm so glad that I headed in the right direction.
I'm so glad that I took the right action.
And I'm so glad that I was patient the right direction. I'm so glad that I took the right action. And I'm so glad that I was patient
and I didn't give up on myself.
Because when you get to that finish line
and you look backwards,
you realize it was so worth it.
And nothing would be worse
than giving up in the process,
fast forwarding 60 years and thinking,
man, I could have done more with my life.
So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
