Okay, let's go ahead and dive into today's episode. Today I'm going to be talking about how to change your life in this very moment. So when we're talking about how to change your life, I once had a conversation with someone that said, man, you know, if you're trying to change people's lives, it must take a really long time to change somebody. And there is some truth to that, but there's also a lot of truth to the fact that anybody's life can change in an instant. And why do I say that? The reason why is because somebody's life can change completely if they do one thing and one thing
Starting point is 00:01:38 only, and that is make a decision and a decision that they won't go back from. A decision where they're like, this is it. Enough is enough. I've had enough of this crap that my life has gone through. I'm not going to do this anymore. And my life is going to be different. For me, you know, I had my first business that went really well. And then I invested all of the extra money into it and accidentally ran the entire thing into the ground. And in 2010, the fall of 2010, for two months, I ate pasta. And that was all that I ate for two months because I could run to Walmart. I could get pasta. It was a box of pasta for 88 cents. It was a pasta, you know, the Walmart brand pasta, whatever it was, was a dollar 88. And I could eat that for breakfast, lunch, and dinner,
Starting point is 00:02:20 and it cost me like 25 cents for the entire day. And I lived like that for two months. And the whole time I was working towards getting better, working towards getting better. But I had this moment, this click of like, enough is enough. I'm not going to live this way anymore. I'm going to figure out how to get up to this point. I was almost had lost my car. I was five months behind on my car payment. And it was that decision that something's going to change and I'm going to change it. that completely changed my life. So if you're out there and you're at the point where you're like, I'm unsatisfied with where I am.
Starting point is 00:02:52 I'm not in the place that I want to be. I know I have so much more potential inside of me. I'm going to do something different. You can make that decision. And as long as you stick to it, your life will start to change. Now, you could also be at the point where you're not at rock bottom. You're not in a really terrible place. You might actually have a great life, but something inside of you says that there's more. You can make the
Starting point is 00:03:15 decision that you want to go for that more. Sometimes I tell people being at rock bottom was one of the best things that ever happened to me because I could work up from rock bottom. I was, I was ready to work. I needed to work because I was tired of being there, right? There's, it's either the pain of, of hard work or the pain of regret. There's also the pain of, of hard work or the pain of being broke. And so for me, you know, I worked really hard because I wanted to get out of the spot that I was. I've also been at spots where I've made six figures and been comfortable and just been, you know, kind of not really working hard, but still making a bunch of money and making sales, but not really having to make sales. But it was just completely unfulfilled of being there. I was like, there's so much more for me. Sure. I'm making a lot of money, but there's something else for me in this world. And I don't
Starting point is 00:04:02 know what the hell that it is. I was like, I'm going to make a decision to figure out what it is and to work past it. I'm going to make the decision to get my life to where I want it to be. So if you're watching this or listening to this and you're out there and you're like, my life isn't bad, but I know that I want more. What you have to realize is it is okay to want more. Number one, you can be positively dissatisfied with where your life is. Maybe you want to realize is it is okay to want more. Number one, you can be positively dissatisfied with where your life is. Maybe you want to go out and maybe you're making a bunch of money, but you want to go out and you want to help the world more. It's okay to completely reinvent yourself. And all it takes is a decision. So when people say it takes a long time to change somebody,
Starting point is 00:04:40 sure, it can take a long time, but if someone's so fed up and they don't want to be where they are anymore, they can immediately change their mind and start to change their life. So one thing that I found works really well, if you get to the point where you're like, enough is enough, I'm going to figure out a way, I'm going to get past this, you make your decision. After you make your decision, what you do is you make a declaration. And your declaration basically says exactly what's going on and what you're going to do. So a declaration is written by hand. You write out this declaration by hand. You don't type it on a computer. You don't put it inside of your phone. You take old school pen and paper and you write
Starting point is 00:05:16 it down. And let me tell you the reason why this is important is because when your brain physically sees something that you have created in the world that now seems real, which means you are going to be more focused towards it. So what are you going to put inside of this declaration? Number one, you need to write down what it is that you're going to do. Write down what it is that you're going to do. Number two, you're going to need to write down when you are going to do it by. Number three, you're going to write down why you are doing it. Number four, you're going to write down why you won't go back on this decision. Number five, you're going to sign it at the bottom as if it's a contract with yourself. And then number six, you're going
Starting point is 00:05:58 to read it to yourself every single morning and every single evening so that you don't forget about it and you're constantly reminding yourself of it. Now, why does this work? There's a couple different reasons why this works in the human brain. And let me go through the six steps one more time. So number one, you're going to write down what you want. Number two, when you want it by. Number three, why you're doing it. Number four, why you won't go back. Number five, you're going to sign it. And number six, you are going to read it every morning and every evening. The reason why this works is because of the principle of consistency. We so badly in our brains, it's a psychological thing of the site. The principle of consistency is we want to stay consistent with whatever we've done before, whatever we've said before.
Starting point is 00:06:40 It's the reason why sometimes you'll, you'll lie to somebody, even if it's an accidental lie. And now you have to stay consistent with that lie because you don't want to go back on what you had said before. It's the same reason why if someone's like, oh yeah, do you do this? Oh yeah, I do that. And then you start to figure out, you know, I've had it before where someone's been like, hey, do you do this? I'm like, yeah, I know a lot about that. And I'm like, oh crap, I didn't even mean to say that. It just kind of came out. And then I'll have to look it up on my phone so that I've actually stay consistent with what I had said in the past. So if you're out there and you're asking, well, what is the reason why consistency, why does this whole declaration work? It's the principle of consistency.
Starting point is 00:07:17 If you write down what you want, when you want it by, you put out this whole thing, you sign it. Well, then you now have a contract with yourself. You're going to want to try to stay consistent with that contract. And if you read it every single morning and every single evening, it's going to remind yourself of the feelings that you had as to why you wanted it so bad. So you're going to make a declaration with yourself. And the last part that makes it even better is if you really want to add an extra layer on top of it, you can bring in something called the principle of social proof, which means that you make this, you make your decision, you make your declaration, you sign it,
Starting point is 00:07:57 you read it every single day, but then you find at least one person who you really trust, who you really love, that's going to hold you accountable. And what do you do? You tell them what your goal is. You can show them the declaration if you want to. If you don't want to, no big deal. If you want to add in extra accountability, you can show it to them. But if you don't want to, once again, no big deal. And you're going to say, hey, John, this is what I'm going to do. I'm tired of where I am. This is what I want to do. This is what I want to do it by. These are the reasons why I want to do it. And I'm not going to go back because of this, this, this, this, this. And what I need you to do is I need you to hold me accountable to it.
Starting point is 00:08:35 And even if that person doesn't hold you accountable to it, the idea of social proof is number one, you're trying to stay consistent in John's eyes. And you're also trying to have that social proof of you don't want to go back on what you already said to him. You said something to him. You don't want to go back. You want to try to create the world that you've now told John that you're going to go to. So you're holding yourself accountable by yourself with the declaration. And when you bring in the social proof side of it, you're now holding yourself accountable to somebody else. So if you're out there and you're trying to completely change your life, you're trying to make some massive changes, use this.
Starting point is 00:09:12 Realize you need to make a decision and get clear on exactly what it is that you want. Make the declaration. Read it to yourself every single day. And if you want to add the extra layer, find at least one person. If you're comfortable doing it, find 10 people. Put it up on your Facebook. Show every person that you possibly can and say, hey, who wants to hold me accountable to it?
Starting point is 00:09:32 Check in with me every single Monday and see how I'm doing. And this is how you really start to change your life because it's now externally outside of you, not just internal. It's on a piece of paper. It's out there in the world. Other people know it's supposed to be done. And this is how you slowly but surely start making massive change in your life because you want to stay consistent with what you have said you're going to do. So that's what I got for you for today's episode. If you liked this episode,
Starting point is 00:09:56 please share it with someone that you know and love. And I'm going to leave you the same way I leave you every single episode. Make it your mission to make somebody else's day better. I appreciate you and I hope that you have an amazing day.
