So today, we're going to be talking about one very, very simple strategy to start hitting
your goals more. And this is one thing that I'm really surprised that people don't do more often.
And it's something called Pearson's Law. And Pearson's Law says this,
when performance is measured, performance improves. When performance
is measured and reported back, the rate of improvement accelerates. What this means exactly
is that when you decide you want to lose weight, for instance, and you're like, you know what?
I want to lose weight. Okay, cool. What now? Well, now if you decide, you know what? I'm
going to actually start to track and measure this performance,
which means, okay, I can basically say I want to lose weight
and I'm going to give myself eight weeks.
Then I can work out and eat better and all that stuff.
And I can check my weight on day one.
And I can check my weight on the end of the eight weeks.
And that would be no tracking, no measuring, none of that stuff.
But let's take it one step further.
What if I were to wake up and I were to actually say, you know what? I'm going to measure myself
every single morning and how much I weigh. So I check day one, and then I check the next day,
and then I check the next day, and I check the next day. When I do that, I have much, much,
much more of a chance of succeeding at my goal. Now, if I want to take it one step
further, which is what Pearson's law is saying, one step further would be I wake up every single
day, I hop on the scale, and then what I do is I actually write down how much I weigh every single
morning. So I'm not only tracking it, I'm actually reporting it back, measuring it, and seeing what
I'm doing at every single moment. And so if you do that,
so you could literally go three different ways. Number one is you just measure yourself on day
one and then measure yourself on day whatever it is, 60. Or you could go another level, which
should be waking up every single day and looking at the scale and jumping on the scale every single
day and seeing that. Or another level deeper, which means you have much more rate of
improvement, is to wake up every single day, to jump on the scale, and then to write down your
weight every single day. There's a couple of reasons why this helps you so much. I had a
coaching client that I had years ago. The one thing he wanted to do was just simply lose weight.
And what I had him do was I had him literally track his weight every single day and send me
that weight once a week before we hopped onto our phone calls. And just that, he lost about 30 pounds
in four months because of the fact that he was tracking it and he knew he had somebody that was
going to be looking at it every single week. And so when you want to be able to hit your goals,
whether it's a life goal, a financial goal, a business goal, whatever it is, to be able to hit your goals, whether it's a life goal, a financial goal, a business goal,
whatever it is, to be able to quantify your life and your business, to be able to do that is
critical for success. So there's a lot of people like, hey, I want to be millionaires. I'm like,
well, how much is your bank account right now? I'm not really sure exactly how much is in it.
Well, if you just check your bank account every single day, you're more likely to make more money because of the fact that you are tracking it
every single day. And so to be able to figure out the quantifiable things that you can put into your
life and start to track, that's when you're going to be able to hit your goals much quicker.
So if you want to be able to save money, let's say your goal is to save $6,000 this year.
That could be your New Year's resolution for this year coming up, right? I want to save $6,000 this
year. Well, if you do the math, you could level one. You could just say, I want to save $6,000.
You check it on January 1st, then you check it on December 31st, and you see if you save that $6,000.
Or you can look at it and you can say, okay,
all right, if I want to save $6,000, let me do the math. That's $500 per month,
which equals about $125 per week. Okay, well, now I know and I can look at my, every single week,
I can look at my bank account and see how I'm tracking. Or the next level above that is that
I know exactly how much I want to save, exactly how much is in
my bank account, and if I am past my goal or if I'm on track to hitting my goal or if I'm below
being on track of my goal. And to be able to track these every single week, every single day is
what's going to help you get there because it's like an extra level of accountability for you.
So be able to quantify everything in your life because when you're working towards a goal,
for you. So be able to quantify everything in your life. Because when you're working towards a goal,
when you're working towards a goal, we must measure performance and keep track of where we are compared to where we need to be. So if I'm looking at it and I'm like, okay, I'm six months
into the year, I wanted to save $6,000. If I'm six months into the year, I should be at $3,000,
right? But if I'm at $1,500, well, then I need to figure out a way
to start making changes in the way that I'm spending money or the way that I'm saving money
or how much money is coming in in order to be able to hit my goal. It's not rocket science.
It's very simple, but it's an extra level of accountability that most people don't take
themselves to. How often do we set goals and then not track them and we completely forget about
them?
One of the things that drives me crazy is people will set New Year's resolutions goals and then about six months in, I'm like, hey, what's your New Year's resolution? They're like,
I wanted to lose weight. And I'm like, how much? I don't know. And they don't track it. They don't
remember it. I bet that 95% of the reason why you, why myself included in this, why people don't
achieve their goals in their New Year's resolutions
and everything that they have is simply because we don't have a system that we build with the
setting of our goals to actually track what it is that we want to be doing.
The businesses that are the most successful are the ones that have statistics. They track their
statistics that matter the most in their business,
and they follow them and they have weekly meetings every single week. Could you imagine if you worked for a company that had no weekly meetings? You'd think that they're kind of crazy, right? The
company would probably be going out of business. Well, if it's that important for a company to be
able to track all of the numbers, to stay on track, to meet every single week, and to make
sure that everything's going in the right direction, why should your goals be any different? You know, if you want to be able to lose
60 pounds this year, okay, well, good. Let's figure out the exact number. You know,
most of the time people say, I want to lose weight. And that's not a clear thing. First off,
one of the things that I say about goals that I hear from coaching thousands of people
is that you have to know exactly, like very, very, very, very clear on what your goals
are. So if you say, okay, I want to lose weight. Well, if you lose one pound in a year, you lost
weight, you hit your goal. But I'm pretty sure that if you want to lose weight, you don't want
to lose one pound. You want to lose more than that one pound. So let's say it's 60 pounds.
Okay, well then I need to come up with a plan of how I'm going to hit that. But I also need to come
up with a plan of how I'm going to check in with myself every single week. I guarantee you that if you're someone that's out
there that's trying to lose weight, if you simply just buy a scale, you put that in your bathroom,
and then what you do is you have a pen and paper that is on the wall or a notebook that's right
next to it. And literally every single day, you have to hop on that scale before you brush your
teeth, before you go to the bathroom, before you do anything else, you have to hop on that scale.
And you have to write down that number every single day for the next year. You're going to
lose more weight this year than you probably ever have simply because you're tracking it and you're
recording it. And when you do that, you have a much better chance of success. So if you're on
the weight loss journey, okay, well, let's come up
with a plan. Let's figure out, let's be very clear on what it is and let's figure out what a tracking
system looks like for that. Okay. What else can we do? How about meal planning? Instead of just
saying, oh, I'm going to eat healthier, whatever that means, let's come up with an actual plan of
what your weekly eating looks like. This is one of the reasons why people who meal prep
end up doing really well is because it makes it a lot harder, at least to fall off track,
when you have food that's already ready for you. And you know how much food is in here. You know
how many calories are in here. You know that you're eating at a deficit compared to your
normal caloric intake and how much you're burning throughout the day. So if you're not going and
actually planning these things out, the chance of you succeeding and
actually hitting your goal are much, much, much smaller. Do you want to go another level further?
Let's go another level further to help you hit your goals. So besides the fact that you're going
to figure out exactly what it is that you want, you're going to check it every single day,
and you're going to write it down every single day. You can do this with your bank account.
You can know, okay, I want to save an extra $6,000. Okay, well, we know that's $125 per week.
You should be checking your bank account every single day,
every single day,
and writing down exactly how much is in your bank account.
You're going to save so much more money than you ever have.
And you're going to start to think about,
oh my gosh, should I spend my money on this?
Should I not spend my money on this?
Hey, they say you can't have it all,
but that's not totally true.

in with, with your goals? This is one of the reasons why hiring a coach is massive for people.
You don't have to hire a coach if you don't want to, but I just know that when you have somebody that you're paying to hold you accountable for
whatever it is you're trying to be held accountable to, that alone will massively
help you be more successful. But let's just say that you're going to check in with an
accountability partner. This is the funny thing is I have people all the time. They're like, yeah,
but none of my friends are motivated. They don't want to be my accountability. I want to lose 60
pounds this year. None of my friends want to lose 60. I don't think they're going to go to the gym with me. Here's a beautiful thing about an accountability partner. You don't want to be my accountability. You know, I want to lose 60 pounds this year. None of my friends want to lose 60. I don't think they're going to go to the gym with me.
Here's a beautiful thing about an accountability partner.
You don't have to have somebody who's by your side,
who's helping you, who's motivating you,
who's pushing you to be better.
You just have to have that one friend
who knows how to piss you off.
That's what you need.
A great accountability partner is the one friend
who knows how to piss you off.
Let me explain how you can use this person that pisses you off and knows how to piss you off. Let me explain how you can use this person
that pisses you off and knows how to piss you off to help you be successful. You're going to call
up your friend. You're going to say, hey, John, John could be overweight, never going to go to
the gym, drink beer all day, whatever it is. But he's that one guy who just pushes your buttons,
talk shit, whatever it might be. You're going to call up and say, hey, John, I want to lose 60
pounds this year. And in order to do that, I need someone to hold my ass
accountable to it. Do you want to be that person? He might say yes. He might say no.
What's in it for me? Anything like that. What you're going to figure out is, okay, if I'm going
to lose 60 pounds this year, that means that I'm probably going to have to go to the gym
four times a week. What I'm going to do is I'm going to call up John, my friend, who's always on my ass, who pushes my buttons. And I'm going to say,
hey, John, here's the thing. I want to lose 60 pounds this year. I need to go to the gym four
times a week in order to be able to lose that 60 pounds. What I want you to do is I want you to
simply hold me accountable to going to the gym four times a week. And if I don't send you a selfie
from the gym four times within a Monday through Sunday throughout this entire year,
I'm going to have to pay you $1,000. Now, think about that for a second. Do you think that that
is going to motivate you to make sure that you go to the gym? Absolutely.
Because you don't want to pay that one friend that pisses you off $1,000 for simply doing nothing but receiving text messages from you, do you?
No, you don't want to pay them.
So it's going to motivate you to go to the gym more because you don't want to pay them.
What is it also going to do?
It's going to motivate him to check in with you more often.
Because if he knows that if you don't show up, he gets $1,000, do you think he's going to be motivated to check in with you more often. Because if he knows that if you don't show up,
he gets $1,000, do you think he's going to be motivated to check on you? Absolutely.
You've just developed an accountability partner who doesn't have to go to the gym with you,
who doesn't have to hold your hand, who doesn't have to be your spotter, that doesn't have to
eat the same food as you. Simply, they're just somebody who you don't want to pay $1,000 to,
and you know that they want to get $1,000 from you. You have built an incredible accountability system with
the one friend who pushes your buttons and pisses you off. Do it. And if you're like,
well, I don't have $1,000 in my bank account. Okay. Well, what would be painful for you to
have to give this friend? Is it $500? Is it $200? Do something that literally stretches
your boundaries so you're like, there's no way in hell that I'm paying this person any freaking
money. You have to have somebody that you could check in with. Now, if you do have a friend that
will go to the gym with you and you do think that they're as motivated as you, it helps even more
because now you've got an accountability partner that will show up to the gym with you and then then you also have your friend, John, that's not going to do anything. You have
two accountability partners that are pushing you, that are helping you grow better. And you have to
realize there needs to be weekly and monthly checking in and measurement. And hey, if you can
do daily, daily is even better. But can you develop a weekly and monthly and possibly daily measurement so that we can
make sure that we get to our goals? Because without the weekly and the monthly measurement,
we can't make correct adjustments that we need to hit our goals. So you might say,
okay, I need to lose 60 pounds this year. And that's your goal. And after month one,
you've only lost two pounds. You're going to have to change some stuff. And that's why you
need to have the checking in. So you got to ask yourself the question, okay, I'm looking ahead at the next month. Today is,
let's say it's March 1st. I'm two months in on my goal and try to lose 60 pounds this year.
And I am down seven pounds. Okay. That means I need to catch up a little bit more this month.
I'm going to ask myself a question. What does success look like to me this month?
Clearly I need to get ahead of my goals. I need to get back on track. So What does success look like to me this month? Clearly, I need to get ahead of my
goals. I need to get back on track. So what does success look like for me this month? And I start
planning out what success looks like, writing it down and tracking it every single day. And then
you're going to ask yourself every single Sunday, what does success look like for me this week?
So if I look ahead and I say, okay, this month, I actually need to lose 10 pounds. Okay, well,
now that it's Sunday and I'm going to go through and look ahead, okay, this month I actually need to lose 10 pounds. Okay. Well, now that it's
Sunday and I'm going to go through and look ahead, what does success look like for me this week to be
able to get one step closer to my goals? And then every single morning when I wake up, I'm going to
look at my goal. I'm going to step on that scale and I'm going to say, what does success look like
today? Success looks like today. You know what? Yesterday I had a moment of weakness. There was
some, you know, mini Snickers that were on the desk in the office, and I ate one of them.
I shouldn't have done that.
What does success look like for me today?
It looks like me eating the meal plan that I came up with and not allowing myself to
have a moment of weakness.
That's what success would look like today.
And I got to drink a gallon of water.
And so you're keeping yourself on track, knowing, number one, the quantity of what it is
you need to do, whether it's eat more calories, eat less calories, work out more, save more money.
And you know every single day you're making little teeny tiny micro adjustments based off
of the fact that you're tracking your numbers every day, every week, every month to get to a
goal of whatever it is by the end of the year. Rarely do we set a goal, make a plan,
and then hit that goal on the first try without making any adjustments.
If you're working towards a long-term goal of something for this entire year,
whether that's saving money, whether that's growing your business to $500,000 for the year,
whether that's losing weight, rarely do we just set a goal in January and then we just hit that
goal with the original plan that we came up with when we first set a goal in January and then we just hit that goal with the original plan that we came
up with when we first started the goal? You'll have to make some adjustments and that's why you
need to have these little check-in sessions. It will almost never be a 100% correct roadmap from
the beginning. There's going to be detours, there's going to be crashes, there's going to be
screw-ups, all of that stuff. It doesn't matter if you mess up, if you don't mess up. All that
matters is that you're on the right path. And when you do have that moment of weakness, like we're talking
about the Snickers, you ask yourself the next day, how can I make adjustments to make sure that
doesn't happen? How can I make today an absolute success? Because we're going to fall short. You're
going to fall short. I'm going to fall short on some days and some weeks. But we need to make
sure that we don't allow ourselves to get down on ourselves and feel guilty or feel shameful or talk shit about ourselves because we have that moment of weakness.
We don't even worry about those. There's no guilt. There's no shame. We just look at it.
We make adjustments and we work harder the next week to be able to hit our goals.
That's it. Too often, people will set their goals and then they screw up at one point in time.
If you have a 52-week goal over the course of an entire year, you're going to fuck up at some point. Just know that you will. When it happens,
don't be like, you know what? I knew it. I knew that I was the right type of person to do this
and start guilting yourself and shaming yourself and making yourself feel bad. You've got to be
able to allow yourself to just be like, you know what? Okay, this happened. I don't want it to
happen again. What can I do to be smarter this time so therefore it doesn't happen in the future?
want it to happen again. What can I do to be smarter this time so therefore it doesn't happen in the future? That's it. It's not hard. Life is not hard. We make it way harder than it needs to
be. If you look at everything very objectively and just be like, okay, this is what happened.
Okay, I'm not going to guilt myself. I'm not going to shame myself, but I'm going to make
sure that I don't allow myself to do that again. And you look at things very objectively and be
like, all right, I'm going to work through this, you have a much better chance of hitting your goals. So once again, Pearson's law is a very, very simple way to be able to hit
your goal. When performance is measured, performance improves. When performance is measured and reported
back, the rate of improvement accelerates and that's it. And if you want to add something on
to Pearson's law, you need to get a couple accountability partners. You need to get the one of them who you know that you have to pay
if they don't. If you don't send the selfies or if you don't save the money or if you do something
that you're not supposed to, you need to have that person. And if you can find somebody who's
motivated to go to the gym with you, to help you save money, to whatever it is, be on the same
track as you, whatever that thing is, if you to whatever it is, be on the same track as you.
Whatever that thing is, if you can find someone that's also on the same path,
it makes it so much easier. Performance measured improves. Performance measured and reported back improves exponentially. So that's what I got for you for today's episode. If you love this episode,
