Starting point is 00:00:36 I would greatly, greatly appreciate it. Today, we're going to be talking about the nine different aspects of setting your New Year's resolutions goals today on the podcast. So hopefully you have a pen and paper with you because this is something I want you to pause. This is something that I want you to take some time and actually journal through and start to figure out what it is that you want. And that's what we're going to go through today is we're going to go through the nine different categories of how you are going to set your goals. So if you're ready to go, let's go
Starting point is 00:01:05 ahead and dive in. And as we are doing this, just a couple of rules. Number one, act like you're four years old again. When you're four years old, there's no such thing as being realistic. And being realistic is going to be a thing that's going to hold you back from your true potential from doing what you want. So I want you to act like you're four years old when you're doing this. You are a child. Anything is possible. Write down anything that pops in your head and always think bigger. The second rule that I'm going to give you is this. Besides making sure that you act like you're four years old, number two is to get as clear as you possibly can about these goals. The more clear that you can be, the better. I always say if you say you
Starting point is 00:01:39 want to make more money, that's not a good goal because if you make one more dollar this year, you hit your goal. But you probably want to make more than just a dollar. If you want to lose weight, don't say you just want to lose weight. Give me an exact number of exactly how much you want to lose. So number one, make sure you act like you're four years old. Number two, make sure that you are as clear as possible. And number three, as I go through all nine of these categories for your goals, pause me after every single one of them. I'm going to go through them quick. I'm going to give you some ideas, but pause me and take some time to actually go through every single one of them. All right, let's go. So if you're writing it down, the very first thing that
Starting point is 00:02:13 I want you to think about is your career. Okay. And so you can pause me if you need to take as much time as you need. But my goal is for you to get at least 10 goals for every single one of these. So you'd have 90 different goals that you can work on throughout the year. And you can figure out what your most important was, second most important one is, all of that stuff. So we're talking about your career. What do you want your career to look like over 2022? Do you want to get a promotion? How much money do you want to be making in your career? Do you currently make $50,000? You want to get raised to 65? Okay, well, what is the goal? Write the goal down and you can start to figure out what is it you want. Do you want to quit your
Starting point is 00:02:49 career maybe? Maybe you want to quit your career. Maybe you want to quit your career and have some sort of business that you run on your own. Do you want to eventually run your own business? What would that look like if you actually started your own business and you started to make a transition plan over this year, knowing that, hey, things tend to be very volatile and we don't know what's going to be happening next year. So maybe if we just plan on, hey, let's focus on figuring out what I need to do to leave the place that I'm at and be able to start my own company. Okay. That could be something for you. Do you want to have a side hustle? Do you want to start a company on the side? Do you want to, you know, start making jewelry and selling it on Etsy like I always talk about? Do you want that to be your job? Do you
Starting point is 00:03:29 want to start a company where you make paintings and you sell your paintings on Etsy and you still have a normal job? You still have the job that you have now. Maybe you get some promotions, maybe make a little bit more money, but then you at least have something that you're doing on the side. What do you want your career to look like over the next year? Okay. So that's number one is your career. Number two, let's go into finances. And one thing I didn't say at the beginning that I want to bring back in, I want you as we're going through this to be as clear as possible, like literally be as clear as you possibly can about what it is that you're trying to do. So when I go into this next one, which is financial, you know, what are your financial goals for this next year? Don't say, I want to make more money.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Say, give me an exact dollar amount. Because if you say, I want to make more money and you make one more dollar this year, well, guess what? You hit your goal. But I'm assuming that if you want to make more money, you don't want to just make one more dollar. And so what do you want that to look like?
Starting point is 00:04:19 Okay? So that's your financial goal. What do you want to make next year? That's the first thing I want you to think about. I want you to jot down. What do you want to make over the next year? Okay? What do you want to make next year? That's the first thing I want you to think about. I want you to jot down. What do you want to make over the next year? Okay. What do you want to save over this next year? Is there a certain amount of money? Maybe you want to save, I don't know, $6,000, which is 500 bucks a month. Okay. Well, now we've got an idea of exactly what you
Starting point is 00:04:38 want to make, exactly what you want to save. How much do you want to invest? What do you want to invest in? Do you want to invest in stocks? Do you want to invest in cryptocurrency? Do you want to invest in real estate? What do you want your financial landscape to look like at the very end of 2022 with how much you make, how much you save, how much you invest, where you save it, where you invest it, all of that stuff. Let's get as detailed and clear as possible because the clearer that you can see the target,
Starting point is 00:05:03 the more likely you are to hit that target. So the second one is financial. All right, number three. Let's talk about your relationships over this next year. What do you want your relationships to look like? So let's start with your family, okay? What do you want your relationship with your children to look like? What do you want your relationship with your parents to look like? What do you want your relationship with your brother, your sister, your cousin, your friends, the people that you're close to, you know, your best friend, your two, three, four, five best friends. Maybe you look at your five and you say, hey, these are good people. There's a couple more people I wish I had. Maybe someone that has a business that would motivate me, that someone that is in better shape so that it
Starting point is 00:05:43 motivates me to get into the gym more. What do you want your relationships to look like over the next 12 months? Write them all down. Okay, and then obviously now you've gone through family, you've gone through children, parents, brother, sister, accountability partners. We've gone through all of those things. What do you want your relationship with your significant other to look like over the next 12 months? Maybe you don't have a significant other. Okay, well, you can make it a goal to actually get a significant other by a very specific date this year. Write that down. Maybe it's you want to get out of the relationship that you're in and you want to get into a new one. Okay, write that down. Maybe it's that you want to improve
Starting point is 00:06:19 your relationship. Okay, well, what would that look like? What do you mean by improve? Like, be very clear on what it is that you mean. As I said, what does it mean to improve your relationship over the next year? Okay, so write all of those down. Number three is your relationships. Number four is your health, okay? And when I say get very clear, I don't want you to say I want to lose weight. That's dumb.
Starting point is 00:06:40 You don't want to just lose weight because once again, if you just lose one pound, you lost weight, you hit your goal. But I'm assuming if you want to lose weight, you don't want to lose one pound. So how much do you want to weigh? What do you want your weight to be at? What do you want your body fat to be at? What do you want your energy to be at? What do you want to feel like when you wake up in the morning? What do you want your health to be like? What do you want to eat? Do you want to eat more meat? Do you want to eat less meat? Do you want to stop having so many carbs? Do you want to have less gluten? Do you want to have less milk? What is it that you want? Start writing those goals down of exactly what you want your health to be over the next year and get very clear on it. If you have somebody whose body is like the perfect
Starting point is 00:07:18 body for you, print that body out, put it on your wall, look at it every single day and say, that's what I'm shooting for. I'm shooting for a body that looks like this person's. Okay. Beautiful. So that is your health. That is number four. Number five is a fun one. This is usually one of the most fun ones for people. Materialistic. What do you want to buy? Like, what do you, what do you want your, your, your stuff to look like? What do you want? You want to buy something fun? Do you want to go buy a car? Do you want to buy a house? One of the things that I think holds a lot of people back from being motivated is they feel like they can't own materialistic things because a lot of people, myself included, come from not much money.
Starting point is 00:07:51 And that tends to be looked down upon when somebody goes and actually starts spending money. When you come from a family, sometimes it doesn't have money. It's like, oh, you could have done so much better with it. And people think that. No, sometimes what's motivating is the aspect of being able to buy something. Okay, so what do you want? What do you want materialistically? Do you want to buy a new watch? Do you want to buy a car?
Starting point is 00:08:10 Do you want to buy a house? Do you want to buy a, you know, a second home? Do you want to buy a beach house? Do you want to buy an investment property? Materialistically, what do you want over the next year? Write down every single thing that you could think of. Take a second, pause me, write them all down. Hey, let's pretend for a moment that you're about to launch a campaign. It tested well, the entire team is happy, everything is going according to plan,
Starting point is 00:08:34 except for that one thought in the back of your head. How do I make sure that the people that I want to target will be in the mindset to receive my message? The answer is LinkedIn. Because when you market on LinkedIn, your message reaches people who are ready to engage with your business. And that means your advertising campaign will work as hard as it can as soon as you launch it. There's over 62 million decision makers on LinkedIn, and they're thinking about their business. It's one of the many reasons why more than 78% of B2B marketers rate LinkedIn as the most effective social media platform at helping their organization achieve specific objectives. LinkedIn can help you reach your short and long
Starting point is 00:09:09 term business goals. They offer tools for brand building and lead generation. Not only can you target and reach a professional audience down to their job title, company name, and location, but you can engage with people you already know based on who's visited your site or who's contacted you in the past. So do business where business is done. Get a $100 advertising credit towards your first LinkedIn campaign. Visit linkedin.com slash dial. Once again, that's linkedin.com slash dial.
Starting point is 00:09:34 Terms and conditions do apply. All right, next one. Your personal development. What do you want your personal development to look like over this next year? How do you want to feel? Do you want to feel more peace? Do you want to feel more love? Do you want to feel more joy? Do you want to be more calm?
Starting point is 00:09:54 Do you want to be more centered? Do you want to read a certain amount of books? How many books do you want to read over this next year? Do you want to read five books, 10 books, 12 books, one a month? Do you want to read multiple a month, 24? What is it that you want to do? What do you want your personal development to look like? Do you want to start multiple a month, 24? What is it that you want to do? What do you want your personal development to look like? Do you want to start going to some conferences? What is it that you want to do? One thing that I always ask, and this is a very important question that most people never think of, is what is your budget for your personal development over the next year? Have you ever thought about that?
Starting point is 00:10:18 You know how much you spend on your car. You know how much you spend on your car insurance, your phone, your house, or your mortgage, or your rent, or your insurance for your homeowners, or your insurance for the place that you're renting? You have a budget. Even if you haven't written your budget down, you have a budget of how much you spend every single month. Do you have a budget for how much you're going to spend
Starting point is 00:10:38 on your personal development? Because the number one ROI that you can get is investing into your own personal development. There's nothing. Bitcoin, cryptocurrency, none of those things do any better long-term than investing into yourself. That is the best ROI that you can find. So what do you want your investment into yourself to look like over this next year? How much do you want to put into your own personal development? What do you want your personal development to look like? How do you want to feel? What do you want your
Starting point is 00:11:00 energy to be like? What do you want to do for books and reading and courses? Do you want to hire a coach this year? Do you want to find a mentor? What do you want your energy to be like? What do you want to do for books and reading and courses? Do you want to hire a coach this year? Do you want to find a mentor? What do you want your personal development to look like? Take a second, pause me, write it down. Let's figure that out. Okay. Number seven, spirituality. What do you want your spirituality to look like over the next year? Now, I don't necessarily just mean religion. If you are religious, then yes, I do mean religion. Do you want to start going to church more often? Do you want to go to whatever it is that you do? Do you want to go to temple? Do you want to go to synagogue? What is it you want to do over this next year with your spirituality? And then if you're not religious, what does that mean to you? Okay,
Starting point is 00:11:37 well, it could mean you want to start learning about religions. You want to start learning about spirituality. Maybe you want to go to spiritual healers more. Maybe you want to start learning about spirituality? Maybe you want to go to spiritual healers more. Maybe you want to meditate more. Maybe you want to find more inner peace. What is it that it means? Maybe you want to do more yoga. What does it mean to you over this next year? Because we all are spiritual beings, whatever you believe in or don't believe in,
Starting point is 00:11:59 we're spiritual beings in some sort of way. What do you see as spirituality? And how can you deepen that spirituality inside of you? For whatever it is that you believe in, even if you believe in nothing, there's some aspect of spirituality in that believing in nothing. How can you deepen it? How can you find more peace? How can you meditate more? How can you just deepen your overall sense of peace, of well-being, of joy, that deep feeling of just happiness inside of you. So that's number seven, which is spiritual. Number eight is your character. What do you want your
Starting point is 00:12:32 character to look like? And this one tends to be a little bit hard for people when we go through this. The way I always explain it is this, is if you were to die today and people were to get up and give their eulogy about you, what would you want them to say about you? And even if they don't say it now and you're like, oh, that's something I need to develop in myself. What do you want people to say? What do you want them to say about your character that you're giving,
Starting point is 00:12:56 that you're loving, that you're forgiving, that you're one of the best people that they know? And so we're talking about your character. How do you want to develop that? And I remember, you know, not too long ago, I was doing this with my team. I was literally going through all of these. One of my team members was like, hey, I got a question. Like, I'm kind of stuck on the character one. And I said, okay, let me give you an example of what pops into my head when I think of character. There's two people that I've met in my life that were just like, their characters were most standout people I've ever seen. And there's just a feeling of like, there's a feeling of like, this person's on another level, mentally,
Starting point is 00:13:30 spiritually, emotionally, like there's just something different about this person. The first one was my grandfather. And I could just, he just had this, this feeling of him. And the second one was, I was actually up in New York and Jay Shetty is a friend of mine. And he invented, he invited me to a event with his guru. His name is Radhanath Swami. of mine and he invited me to a event with his guru. His name is Radhanath Swami. And he invited me to his event. I went to his event and I watched it and it was amazing. And then at the end, all of these people lined up and all of these people were there to see him. And I waited and I hung out and I was talking with people. And then Jay came up to me and he goes, hey, have you met Radhanath Swami yet? And I was like, no, man, he looks really
Starting point is 00:14:03 busy. He goes, you have to meet him. You have to meet this guy. And I was like, okay. He's like, you know, I'll bring you in last and you can be the last person to see him. I was like, okay, cool. So Lorna and I went up and saw him. I don't know if I've ever been around a human
Starting point is 00:14:15 who had this aura of just like, like just peace. And it was like, when we were speaking, nothing in the world existed except for me in that conversation with him. And I could tell that there's nothing that I could say to him that could have a tiny bit of judgment on his side. There's nothing I could say to him that wouldn't have him not love me or not accept me or not
Starting point is 00:14:38 see me for who I truly am. And so when I say character, that's what I think about is those two people as far as the character that they had that I'm trying to cultivate more in myself. And so when I say what character attributes do you want to grow inside of yourself over the next year, that's what I mean. What character attributes do you want to grow inside of yourself over the next 12 months? Write them all down. Pause me if you need to.
Starting point is 00:15:03 And then number nine. Number nine, in my opinion, is the most fun. Experiential, or you could call it adventure. What do you want to experience over the next year? What do you want to travel to? Are there certain places you want to travel to? Write them all down. What do you want to experience?
Starting point is 00:15:17 Do you want to get on stage in front of 100 people and give your first speech? Do you want to get on stage in front of 1,000 people and give your 500th speech, but it's just the most people you've ever been in front of? Do you want to get on stage in front of a thousand people and give your 500th speech, but it's just the most people you've ever been in front of? Do you want to have a podcast where you have someone famous come on and you get to experience the act of actually sitting down and having somebody famous in front of you and dedicated time with you and be able to answer or ask them all the questions that you want to? What type of experiences do
Starting point is 00:15:42 you want to create? Do you want to write a book over the next year? Do you want to go on a book tour and be able to sign copies of people that are excited to meet you? Do you want to be able to, like I said, start that podcast? What experiences do you want to have? Do you want to go and buy your parents a trip to a different country? Do you want to buy your mom a car? What do you want to experience over the next 12 months? Write it all down. And here's the thing that I want to tell you. Like I said in the beginning, act like you're four years old and anything is possible. Anything in the entire world is possible. You can do whatever it is that you want. Just write it all down and don't let the thought
Starting point is 00:16:20 of, oh, I don't know if that's realistic, pop into your head. If it does, push it away. Don't worry about it. Let's go for it. And so those are the nine categories I want you to go down and start to go through. And if you need to, rewind me, listen to me again. Your career, your financial, your relationships, your health, materialistic, personal development, spiritual, character, and experiential. But that's what I got for you for today's episode.
