Today, we're going to be talking about the next 20 years of your life, but I want to break it down into bite-sized pieces and make it super simple for you.
Starting point is 00:01:28 Here's what I've come to find after coaching thousands of people is that most people, when they think about where they want their life to go, and they think about 20 years from now and you can build out this beautiful vision board and the house that you want and the cars that you want and the place that you want to live and the family that you want and the cars that you want and the place that you want to live and the family that you want. You can build on everything. And this is the business that I want. And this is where I want to travel to. And this is the overall life. You build this beautiful vision board. Well, what happens is people actually get paralysis by analysis because there's too much on that board and it scares the crap out of them. And the reason
Starting point is 00:02:06 why is because they're not thinking about this very moment. What are they thinking about? They're thinking about every single step that needs to be taken in order to get that life. They're literally thinking about every single step and they're thinking, oh my God, well, I don't know if I can do this because if I'm going to go ahead and do that, then I got to do this and I got to do this and I got to do this and I got to do this. And what happens? They end up doing nothing. And the reason why they do nothing is because there's too many things that they think that they have to do in order to get that life. Well, yeah, of course, but you have 20 years, 20 years to worry about it. So why are you thinking about all of the next 20 years? You've heard me
Starting point is 00:02:45 say it before. One of my favorite quotes is Lao Tzu, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Why are you thinking of all of the thousands of miles that you have to walk or drive or whatever it is? And so what I want to talk to you about is that single step right now. You know, if I'm driving to my friend's house, let's say I get in my friend, my car, I'm going to go to my friend Mike's house in Houston. I live in Austin. It's about two and a half hours away to get to his house. And it's at night. I don't have to worry about every single turn that I need to take. What do I do? I get into my car, I set my GPS and I put Houston. And then I just let my car take me there and I just drive in the headlights.
Starting point is 00:03:25 I don't have to worry about anything outside of the headlights because when I get to those turns or bends in the road or the detours that need to be made, I'll make them. But I don't have to worry about them right now, right? The only thing that I need to worry about is the actual stuff that's in the headlights. That's how I want you to live your life. You don't need to worry about the entire route to get to wherever you're trying to go. What do you need to worry about? You need to worry about the headlights, what you can see in the headlights. So what I want you to start doing is to start living your life
Starting point is 00:03:58 in the headlights. Don't worry about what's outside of the headlights. Worry about what you need to worry about right now. And that's only the next 50 feet in front of you. It makes it a lot easier, doesn't it? Because you don't have to worry about the entire route to Houston, aka the next 20 years of your life. The only thing you need to worry about is the next 50 feet in front of you. And those 50 feet in front of you are today. And even more immediate than the 50 feet in front of you. And those 50 feet in front of you are today. And even more immediate than the 50 feet in front of you is the first 25 feet in front of you, which might be the next hour. And that's what you need to worry about. That's what you need to think about. See,
Starting point is 00:04:35 I'm a very visual person and I don't know about you, but if I can see something visually, I can understand the concept much quicker. So with your life, think of it. You're in a car. You're going to a destination. You've figured out the destination. You've made your dream boards. You know who you want to marry. You know how many kids you want. You know what your house is supposed to look like. You know everything. But you don't have to worry about how you're going to create all of that over the next 20 years. The only thing that you need to worry about is the next day in front of you today. That's all you need to worry about. If you just conquer today and you master today every single day for the next 20 years, you're going to get that dream life. But if you get so
Starting point is 00:05:17 caught up in the minutia of just, oh, there's so many little teeny tiny things that need to be done over the next 20 years, you're not going to do anything because that's too much for a human brain to comprehend is the next 20 years of your life. Too many things. Every moment of the next 20 years, that's a lot. So what do I want you to do? Focus on the next 50 feet in front of you. Another way to explain it is the Tarzan method, right? Say you're Tarzan and you're trying to get to the other side of the jungle. Now you can see, maybe, maybe you can see where you're going to on the other side of the jungle, but at least you know the direction that you're trying to get to, right? Yeah. You know the direction that you're trying to get to. Cool. But can you be on the other side of the jungle
Starting point is 00:05:59 right now? No. What do you have to do? You have to hold on to the branch that you have and you have to swing to the next closest branch. You don't need to worry about even the branch after that. All you need to worry about is the branch that you're holding on to in your right hand, holding on to that, which is the present moment and swinging to the next branch and grabbing that one. And then what do you worry about? Now that you have a branch in your left
Starting point is 00:06:25 hand, you got to let go of the right. And now you've got to worry about the next branch and you swing over to the branch. You hold it with one hand on your right hand and now you're good. And then you go left and then you go right. And here's the thing about success. And here's the thing about your life. And here's the thing about Tarzan. Tarzan doesn't go in a straight line. He goes in a direction, but he swings from the right side and then he might swing way over to the left and he might swing way over to the right. And then he might swing even further to the right on his next branch so that he can get to the one after that. And he's going from side to side and he's moving, he's moving in the same direction, but he's going from left to right, to left, to right, to right, right, right, right, to left, to left, to right, right, to left. He's moving throughout the entire jungle. And that's how you
Starting point is 00:07:10 need to live your life. You don't need to worry about getting to the other side of the jungle, because as long as you just worry about going from one branch to another branch, to another branch, to another branch, you'll eventually, as long as you're headed in the right direction, get to where you're trying to go. So stop focusing on the next 20 years of your life and just start focusing on right now. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. That's what Lao Tzu says. Tony Robbins says that most people overestimate what they can do in a year, but they underestimate what they can do in a decade. So get in your car, drive your car, AKA your life as if you're just in driving in the dark and you have the headlights on.
Starting point is 00:07:51 And the only thing that you could see is the next 50 feet in front of you. That's how you have to live your life. And eventually you're going to get past those 50 feet and now you can see another 50 feet. And once you get past those 50 feet, then you can see another 50 feet. But there's no reason for me to worry about the traffic right now that's in Houston when I won't be there for two and a half hours because the traffic could clear up. Things change, life changes, traffic changes. So the only thing that you need to worry about is today, this present moment. You wake up and you try to kick today's ass as much as you can. Punch today in the face and then wake up and do the same tomorrow. And then wake up and do the same the next day and do it over and over and over again. And that vision board, that
Starting point is 00:08:37 beautiful vision board that you've made, if you just punch today in the face every single day, you'll have that vision board that you want. you'll have that vision board that you want. You'll have that dream life that you want. So don't worry about every single day. Don't worry about the next 19 years, 364 days. All you have to worry about is today. And then when you do it tomorrow, you worry about tomorrow and so on. So live your life like you're driving a car at night, the next 50 feet in front of you. So that's what I got for you for today's episode. If you love this episode,
Starting point is 00:09:10 please share it with someone that you know and love. And I'm gonna leave you the same way I leave you every single episode. Make it your mission to make someone else's day better. I appreciate you and I hope that you have an amazing, amazing day.
