So once again, if that's what you're interested in and giving it a try, send me an email, rob at mwfmotivation.com motivation calm okay today I'm going to be talking about how to quit your job how to break out of the rat race how to do your own thing or how to actually mentally prepare yourself to leave your job and get away from those golden handcuffs that we always hear about because here's
Starting point is 00:02:22 what we're taught it's almost a brainwashing in sense whether it's it's on purpose or not on purpose we're taught to go to college and to go to school and we have to go through 12 years of school then we graduate high school then you have to go to college because of course you have to go to college if you want to be successful right and go in thirty forty fifty thousand dollars in debt so that you can get out and get a job that pays you forty five thousand dollars a year so that you can get out and get a job that pays you $45,000 a year, so that you'll never get out of that debt, or it'll take you a long time to get out of it, and you work your way up the corporate ladder. If you're getting this message, there's a pretty
Starting point is 00:02:55 good chance that you're not one of those people who wants to do that. Now, that is good for some people, but if you're receiving this message, if you've landed on this message, the reason why is because you don't want that, I'm pretty sure. You don't want to work for somebody else. You do feel like there's probably more to your life. You do want to actually find your potential. You do want to start your own thing. You want to do something that makes you happy because you've realized that you spend the majority of your waking hours doing some sort of money-making activity, whether that's working for yourself or working
Starting point is 00:03:26 for a company. And it's probably run through your head of, I would much rather be doing something that I loved and wanted to do versus just working for some large company, right? And so you have to realize whether you like it or not, your work is your life. So is it going to be a life that you love or a life that you hate? And we can't, the thing about it is that we've gotten into this mindset of the government needs to give us jobs or the president needs to give us jobs or the Congress needs to give us jobs, right? We need to have the mindset of screw them. I want to be in control of my own destiny, right? I don't want the president or the, there's, I do not want the government in any sort of way dealing with my money or my opportunity to
Starting point is 00:04:12 make money. I would rather be in control of that myself. I want them to be as far away as possible from how I make my money and how I live my life. And when I was younger, about five years ago, before my, my grandparents passed away, I had a conversation with them about what it was like to live through the Great Depression. My grandma told me that there was no social support back then. When they went through the Great Depression, my great-grandfather, my grandmother's father, owned a grocery store, and he also owned a shoe store. Both of them went out of business because he wasn't making any money. She actually admitted that his grocery store went out of business because he kept giving people food because they didn't have money in hopes that
Starting point is 00:04:52 they would one day pay him back. Obviously, that's not a great business decision, but he did it because he was doing it from his heart. And he went out of business. And what happened was there was no social support. There was no government assistance. What she said, the exact thing that she said was we were on our own. We had to figure out for ourselves. And so my great grandfather, they lived in an area and back then they weren't in subdivisions, but they had a small plot of land next to him. So he looked at a plot of land and said, okay, I need to feed my family. I don't have money coming in. I need to figure out how to feed my family. So what he did was that he became a gardener, learned how to garden. And he
Starting point is 00:05:30 gardened all of these different tomatoes and everything that he possibly could, and then got the rest of the neighborhood, all of the neighbors on the, I guess it probably back then wasn't really on a block. It was probably a long stretch and they probably had a bunch of different properties. And they all started doing that. And then they all started sharing, and they came together and said, okay, why don't we just, you know, he's growing tomatoes, I'm growing carrots, why don't we trade, right? That's how the world used to be before the industrial revolution, right? You are good at something, I'm good at something.
Starting point is 00:05:58 Let's trade services or let's trade products. That's the way that it worked back then. So what also happened was he said, okay, so this is going to bring in some sort of food, but I need to get some sort of meat on the table. And so what he did was he learned how to fish. He never fished in his entire life, but he learned how to fish so that he could do it. He fished every single day until the day he died, she said. Every single day. Now that's the way that it used to be. When did we become so dependent on somebody else or on the government? Why can't we go, you know what? Screw that. I'm going to figure out a way to get dollars into my bank account. Because if I don't, somebody else is going to do it. And I know that if you're receiving this message, you've thought that before. You think, well, I want to do this. I want to figure out a way to do something that I am passionate about, something that I actually want to do. out a way to do something that I am passionate about, something that I actually want to do. Because before the industrial revolution, before all these big companies came around,
Starting point is 00:06:53 these big corporations, that's what people did. And I'll tell you this, once you get outside of the box, because we're raised to fit inside of the box, right? If you go to school, you sit inside of that box and you don't leave your box unless you raise your hand and ask if you can go to the bathroom, which is another box. And then you have to do what you're told. We're raised to fit inside of this box in society. And sometimes you have to go, screw that. I'm going to get out of this box. I'm going to think outside of the box and realize that I don't have to have these golden handcuffs on all the time. I'm going to figure out a way to make my own money. And if you don't know what golden handcuffs mean, it's a salary. They call it golden handcuffs because you're stuck, because you get a little bit of a bump every single year. And that little bit of a bump is just enough to keep you stuck there,
Starting point is 00:07:32 just like golden handcuffs would be. And so you think to yourself, well, man, if I really want to go out and start my own business, I could probably live a lot cheaper, right? Maybe I want to go buy a new car or new TV or new this or that. Well, that whole thing of buying new stuff is not needed in the first place. It's like the phrase in the movie Fight Club. They say we buy things that we don't want to impress people that we don't like, right? You don't need to keep buying new things. Could you say for this year, I'm going to go out and I'm going to start that business that I wanted to, and I'm going to be super cheap as I start this business. I'm going to go out and I'm going to start that business that I wanted to. And I'm going to be super cheap as I start this business. I'm going to get by though.
Starting point is 00:08:08 And I'm going to figure out a way to build this business to replace the income that I already have. These golden handcuffs. I'm going to figure out a way to do it. Because we don't need a new car, new iPad, all of these new shiny things. We can get by with the minimalistic. But if we could be cheap for a year, you could build something great without having to get all of those new things, right? So you can think outside the box.
Starting point is 00:08:29 And once you're outside of this box for just a little while and you realize, man, people wake up every single morning to go get into traffic and they waste their lives away and do things that they don't like to do and something that they're not passionate about and they personally are not fulfilled, that seems like a waste of a life considering that we spend most of our waking hours doing that thing. And I know that you don't want to do that. If you're watching this, you do want to do that. That's okay. Because some people do want to do that, but some people don't. But if you're out there and you don't want to do that, start getting a pen and paper and figuring out how you can start your own thing.
Starting point is 00:09:05 How could you make money? What are you passionate about? How can you break out of those golden handcuffs? How can you break out of the rat race? Right? We don't always need to keep buying things. So maybe we should flip our mindset from buying things, the consumerism that we have in America or wherever you are in the world, consumerism to adding value to the world, right? Consumerism, buying things, or we could add value to the world and not need to always
Starting point is 00:09:32 buy things. Because ultimately what we're doing is we're working for big corporations. I'm not, but I used to work for big corporations or machines that don't give a damn about you, to be honest with you. If you died tomorrow, somebody would be in your position next week or two weeks from now, right? And there wouldn't be anybody batting an eye about it. You have to realize that. So why don't you do something that makes you excited? Why don't you get outside of that box? Because once you're outside of it, you realize, man, life is so much better when you can do whatever you want to at any point in time. realize, man, life is so much better when you can do whatever you want to at any point in time. But here's the thing. A lot of people think that, oh, I would love to have my own business because then I could do whatever I want to. You can do whatever you want to after the business is up and
Starting point is 00:10:14 running and making you money and it's successful. But if you work 40 hours a week for yourself versus 40 hours a week for somebody else and you can keep that mindset, you will build something successful. So if you want to break out of the rat race, it is 100% possible. You just need to flip your mindset to outside of the box that we're raised in, the quote unquote brainwashing that we're raised into always want to buy new things and always fitting inside of a box. How about you think outside of the box and start adding value instead of buying things? It's the complete opposite of what we're taught. So, but that is it for today's episode. If you like this,
