Today, what we're going to be talking about is setting your GPS and not just setting your GPS, but setting it every single day. And before we go into setting your GPS, it's extremely, extremely important that you know what you want in your life. Do you have a life plan? Do you have goals for the next year? Do you have goals for 2017?
Starting point is 00:01:42 Do you have goals for the next month or even just for the next year? Do you have goals for 2017? Do you have goals for the next month or even just for the next few weeks? And you have to know this. Do you have goals? If you don't, then this episode really doesn't mean anything for you. And the reason why is because we're going to talk about setting your GPS. Your GPS, when you get into your car every single day, it needs to know two things. Number one, where you are. And number two, where you're going. Now, this is extremely important because if you think about it, most people know where they are. They're extremely aware of where they are. And a lot of people are not happy with where they are. They want to be somewhere else. They want to be further along in their goals, but they're not sure exactly what
Starting point is 00:02:19 their destination is. So it's extremely hard for your quote unquote GPS to take you from where you are to where you want to go if you don't even know where you want to go in the first place. Now, that being said, why is this so important? Well, because if you know your goals, if you know what you're trying to get out of the next month or the next year, whatever it might be, well, then it makes it a lot easier to start making a plan. Because what happens is your GPS finds out where you are, it finds out where you want to go, and it makes a plan of how to get you there. Now, will there sometimes need to be detours? Absolutely. Sometimes there's something that happens unexpected on that path. But just because of the fact that there might be an accident or there might be construction
Starting point is 00:03:01 or something going on, your GPS doesn't go, oh, we're just going to cancel it. No, we're not going to go. No, your GPS goes, okay, hit the detour button. We made a mistake on this one. Let's go a different route. And we still are going to try to get you to your destination. Now, that's why you have to know where you're going. That's why you have to make a life goal. So if you get anything from this podcast episode, what I'll tell you is this, if you don't have a life plan or goals for the next year or 2017 or whatever it is, you need to get a pen and paper and some quiet time with yourself. And you need to write down some of your goals, financial goals, family goals, relationship goals, spiritual goals, travel goals, whatever they might be. It's extremely important to get your goals down
Starting point is 00:03:43 on a piece of paper. And that's why for me with my group coaching, I do this two-hour long session that we're going to have where we're going to have a two-hour long Facebook this upcoming Tuesday, and we're going to go over the Facebook live of exactly what needs to be done in order for them to hit their goals for 2017. Now, that being said, you need to do the same whether you're in my group coaching or they're're in my group coaching or whether you're not in my group coaching. You need to figure out your goals for the next year, the next six months, whatever it is,
Starting point is 00:04:10 the timeframe that you want. And you need to wake up every single morning and you need to set your GPS. Don't just let your days happen. You have to go in with every single day, you have to go in with intention. Here's the problem. Most people wake up and they just go by
Starting point is 00:04:28 and they're in complete reaction mode. They just go in, they go into work, they start doing things, and then they just react to things as they start happening to them. That's not the way that you want to go about your life. You don't wanna be in reaction mode. You don't get somewhere that you want to be.
Starting point is 00:04:42 You don't become successful or have a happy life by just living in reaction all the time. You have to go in with intention every single day. And how often, I'm going to ask everybody this, how often do you go and you wake up every single morning and you go in and you plan your day? How often do you wake up and do that? How often do you wake up and plan your day and say, this is what I have to do. This one needs to be done.
Starting point is 00:05:04 This is what's important for today. And here's what you have to ask yourself. Most people don't do that. I'm aware that like 99% of people don't plan their day literally at all. And then they're not happy with where they are because they've literally made no plans or done anything to get them to where they want to go. So a key question you want to ask yourself every single morning to help you with this, to help quote unquote set your GPS is what do I need to do today to get me to my goal of X?
Starting point is 00:05:33 So if you know your goals, if you've written down your goals, you know exactly what it is. Say it's you want to make $100,000 this year. What do I need to do today to get me closer to my goal of making $100,000 this year? And you write down your plan. You figure it out. Ask yourself this question as well. What is the most important thing for me to get done today? That's a huge question. A lot of people never ask themselves. What's the most important thing for me to get done today? If nothing else happens, what has to be done? And then you've heard me ask this question before, is what I'm doing right now getting me closer to or further from my goals?
Starting point is 00:06:13 Whenever you're trying to recalibrate and figure out if what you're doing right now is helping you out, ask yourself the question, is what I'm doing right now getting me closer to or further from my goals? And if it's getting you further away from your goals, stop it immediately and get on to doing something that's going to help you get closer to your goals. Because like I said, your GPS in order for it to work needs two pieces of information, where you are and where you're going. Everybody knows where they are right now. Few know where they are going. So let me ask you, how often do you wake up and plan your day and go into every single day with intention? If you aren't happy with where you are and you've never woken up and set your day and go into every single day with intention. If you aren't happy with where you are and you've never woken up and set your day and planned it and gone into it with intention,
Starting point is 00:06:51 well, to do the same thing over and over again, expect different results is insanity. That's what Einstein said. So to go into every single day and still not have a plan and not make a plan is insanity. So why not try it out for a week? Why not try it out for 30 days of saying, you know what, before I go to work, before I do this, while I'm drinking my coffee, I'm going to take five minutes and plan my day. And that's it. You need to wake up with intention every single day. You don't have to conquer the whole year. Here's the thing. Most people get really scared of their goals because they look at their entire New Year's resolution and they go, this is a big goal for the entire year. You don't have to conquer the whole year. You just have to conquer today.
Starting point is 00:07:31 It's that simple. You don't have to put a whole extra ton of time into it. You just have to figure out what needs to be done today to make today the best that I possibly can. What do I need to do? If nothing else gets done, what do I need to get done today? What's the most important thing for me to get done today? And if you don't get anything else done besides that, and you do that every single day, that's 365 extremely important things done every single day. You're going to get closer to your goals if you do that. So think about that.
