Starting point is 00:00:00 Welcome to today's episode of the Mindset Mentor Podcast. I'm your host, Rob Dial. If you have not yet done so, hit that subscribe button so you never miss another podcast episode. And if you're out there and you love this podcast and you live in the United States or Canada and you want to receive inspirational texts from me, text me right now, 1-512-580-9305. Once again, 512-580-9305. Today, we're going to be talking about how to shift from your scarcity mindset that's holding you back into having an abundance mindset. And I'm going to talk logically, I'm going to talk spiritually, woo-woo-y to you, analytical to you,
Starting point is 00:00:46 all of those things. But one of the things that I find that holds people back the most is what they think is possible for their lives. And that is only something that has been programmed into them and what they now feel is quote-unquote realistic. What you feel is realistic in your life is what is your glass ceiling. And that's the thing that you need to break past. You know, when I look at like my son, who's still a baby, he's not sitting there going, oh, I wonder what's realistic. When he gets older, have you ever talked to a child before? They don't deal with realistic. Everything's realistic to them. And so it's programmed into us at some point in time of what is possible, what is realistic.
Starting point is 00:01:27 And I think the most successful people in the world are the ones who don't pay attention to what's realistic and don't limit themselves. And we limit ourselves simply because of what we think is possible in the way that we speak to ourselves, in the identity for what we feel that we can and cannot believe. And so I'm going to give you a phrase that I hope you remember for the rest of your life. And it's something that I came up with not too long ago when I was really starting to understand, man, when somebody says this, I can tell that they're in scarcity. When someone says this, I can tell that they're in abundance. And the phrase I came up with is this,
Starting point is 00:02:06 respondents and the phrase I came up with is this, life is not or, it is and. And so let me explain what I mean by that. Or, life is not or, it is and. You know, nowhere in the book of the universe, wherever that book is, says that you can either have this or you can have that. Let me give you an example, right? I work with a lot of business owners. I've worked with a lot of business owners. I've worked with a lot of successful CEOs, thousands over the past few years. And so many of them, what I always find is like 95% of the reason why a business is not as big as it could be or a business fails is because of the growth of their business simply because they think they can either have a great business or be a great parent. That's what I mean by scarcity. That is scarcity mindset. I can either have this or I can have this.
Starting point is 00:02:57 I can either be a great business owner or I can be a great mother. Where does that come from? Where does that mindset come from? Who says you have to choose? Where did you learn that is the thing that you have to think about? No, no, no. The way you have to think about it, and it might not be possible at this moment, but you can evolve yourself into it, which is I am going to run an amazing business and I'm going to be the best possible parent that I can be. And I am going to evolve myself into the best version of myself so that both of those two realities exist in my reality at some point in time. Not like, oh, I'm a business owner, so I need to work 100 hours just to succeed. And then that means that I don't
Starting point is 00:03:42 have any time with my children. People think that they have to work 100 hours a week to succeed. And then that means that I don't have any time with my children. People think that they have to work 100 hours a week to succeed. I thought that for years. I did work 100 to 110 hours a week for three years straight. Now what's crazy about it is I work less than I ever did back then, but make way more money than I ever did before. And I don't say it to brag. I say it because I've evolved myself into the type of person that when I am working, when I have my time of I'm sitting down, I'm working, like I am locked in, I'm fucking working. And I am doing something,
Starting point is 00:04:14 and I'm doing something 100% to the best of my ability when I'm doing it. And I was watching a video the other day, and the guy that was in it was talking about most people who are business owners, it's not that they're not working. They're always working. They're always busy doing stuff. It's that they're just doing stuff, but they're not focused on the output. Work is not just taking action. Work is the output that you get for every hour of action
Starting point is 00:04:38 that you put in. And so if you want to be better at work and you're like, well, I want to be the best possible business owner I can be and the best possible father that I can be. Well, I'm going to work for eight hours and I'm going to be the most efficient that I possibly can be. My phone's not going to be near me. I'm not going to check email. I'm going to sit down. I'm going to be productive, productive, productive. I'm not going to let people talk to me. I'm going to put on my headphones, whatever it is that you need to do to get locked in so that for each hour that you put in to work, you get the most output that you possibly can. And then when you're done working, you turn it off, you're done. You don't look at your phone, you don't look at your emails, whatever you have
Starting point is 00:05:15 to do, you go home, you'd be the best possible parent that you can be. There's no reason why those two realities can't live within each other. And we will be right back. And now back to the show. Some of the most successful people in the world get more done in two hours than the average person gets done in 10. What's the difference? They're focused on what they're doing. They're getting it done. They're not sitting around on Instagram and, oh, maybe I should do this. Maybe I shouldn't do this. And I'm going to read a book about work so that I can tell myself I'm working, but in reality, I'm not doing anything productive. They're sitting there, they're getting it done
Starting point is 00:05:50 so that they can move on to the next thing so that they can be done with their work so they can go on to be with their family. Now, mind you, are there some people that completely screw up their lives and their family lives and all that because of the fact they're working too much? Of course.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Does that mean that has to be you? No. It means that we need to go, you know what? I might not know how to be the best parent and the best business owner yet, but I'm going to make it my mission to be able to do both of them at a very high level. One of the most successful people that I know,
Starting point is 00:06:17 like incredibly successful man, is also a really, really good parent. He plans his life out to a T to be that way. He's the only person I've ever met that every time I ever see him, he has his schedule and his journal under his arm with all of his goals, with what he's working on, with what he's got to get done today. When he's working, that dude is working. When he's not, you could call him. When he's with his family, he's not answering his phone. When he's with his kids, he's with his kids. No phone, nothing. He
Starting point is 00:06:46 will go and he'll take off all the time. They go travel with his family all over the world. And so it's not that you can either have a great business or you can be a great parent. That's or. That's scarcity. Abundance is and. I'm going to do both of them. So it's not like, oh, I can either have a great relationship with my spouse or I can become a millionaire. No, it's and. And where did your or mindset come from? Maybe you saw your parents' failed relationship because your dad was working so much trying to support the family and you automatically thought, well, you know, I saw my dad.
Starting point is 00:07:21 He used to get up at four o'clock in the morning and he used to go to his bagel shop and we never really saw him. And then my mom divorced him 12 years later because she said, you're never around. And so you took that story of what you saw happen with your dad and now you're placing it in your life where it's like, oh, I can either have a great relationship with my spouse or I can be a millionaire. No, that's scarcity. Abundance is and. I'm going to have the best possible relationship with my spouse and I'm going to be worth X amount of dollars. When you're at work, you're at work. When you're not, you're not. When you're with your girlfriend or your boyfriend or your husband or wife or spouse, whatever it is, you're with them. You're not at work. You don't check work.
Starting point is 00:07:59 You know, I can either take a vacation or go on vacation. You know, I can either take a vacation or go on vacation. I can either take a vacation with my family or I can go and I can fix the car. Okay, well, maybe that's the reality that you live in right now, where you don't have enough money to be able to fix the car and to go on vacation. That's the reality that you live in now. But can you evolve yourself
Starting point is 00:08:21 so that the reality that you want, which is, hey, I can go on vacation whenever I want to, and I can fix the car or buy a new car and not have to worry about it. I want that and to live in my future. What do I need to do? How do I need to grow myself? How do I need to expand my skill set, expand my knowledge, expand what I can do, expand
Starting point is 00:08:40 my mindset so that therefore I can do both of those things later on down the road. Figure it out. Everything in this life is figureoutable. You've just got to figure out how to make both of those realities fit. How can you be the best possible parent and the best business owner? How can you become a multimillionaire and a great spouse? How can you fix the car and take your family on a three-week vacation? If you're thinking, or that sounds like a lot, or I don't know if I can do it, that's your scarcity mindset coming in. To have the abundance mindset is the mindset of all of the realities that I want to exist in my future will exist. I just need to know, and this is the key part I keep coming back to,
Starting point is 00:09:23 I need to figure out how I need to evolve myself to make these a reality. What do I need to do within myself to make sure this happens? You might not be able to do it right now, but you have to believe that you can do it in the future and you have to figure out a way to make it happen in the future. You know, what would you need to change in your life in order to make it happen in the future. What would you need to change in your life in order to make that happen? What would you need to change in yourself in order to make that happen to make all of those realities exist in the future? I will be able to do this in the future. I will be able to travel with my family. I will be a multi-million dollar business owner. I will
Starting point is 00:10:00 be the best father I can possibly be. I will be the best husband I can possibly be. You don't have to choose. Scarcity is deciding to choose. No. You have to understand the universe, I believe that the only place where scarcity exists is in the human mind. In the human mind. The universe is ridiculously abundant. If you look at nature, nature's not scarce. Nature is abundant as hell. It is everywhere. Scarcity only exists in our minds. If you look at the stars, if you look at the galaxies, our brains can't even comprehend. I had to Google it because I was like, how much is out there? How many stars? How many galaxies? There is one septillion stars in the universe. So I was like, what the hell is septillion? It is a one, to give you an idea, a million is a one with six zeros at the end of it. A billion is a one with nine zeros at the end of it. There are one septillion stars in the universe, which is a one with 24 zeros
Starting point is 00:11:07 after it. There's one septillion stars. There's two trillion galaxies. That doesn't sound scarce to me. Does it sound scarce to you? No, that sounds incredibly abundant. When you look at nature, nature is abundant as hell. If you look at an apple tree, does an apple tree, why does an apple grow? Apples are not grown for you to eat. Apples are grown to reproduce. That's why there's seeds inside of them. There's seeds inside of the apple. So, you know, when it's time for your apple tree to reproduce, does it create one apple per season? Oh, let's just create one apple and hopefully we reproduce and create another apple tree. No. One apple tree will create up to 800 apples in a season to try to reproduce. That sounds pretty damn abundant to me, doesn't it to you? So abundance is natural. Abundance is
Starting point is 00:12:01 what is in nature. Scarcity is what exists in your mind. Nature in abundance and all of that, that is natural out in the universe. Scarcity exists in our minds when we were taught to be realistic, to hold ourselves back, to not put ourselves out there. That is the glass ceiling that you will continue to hit. And so if you feel like you're spinning your wheels, if you feel like you self-sabotage, it's because of what you believe is possible in your future. Scarcity only exists in the human mind. The most natural state of the universe is abundance. That means that abundance is truth and scarcity is a lie. Abundance is the truth underlying throughout the entire universe. Scarcity is the lie. That is our mind flipping
Starting point is 00:12:46 itself to go on the exact opposite of what the universe actually is. But we believe the lie. I believe the lie for years. And I noticed scarcity still pop into my mind all of the time. When I was buying the house that we just moved into, I felt scarcity come back in. I had to work through it. I noticed it. It's still there. Damn it. It's there. Where does it come from? I don't know. It comes from my parents probably. It comes from society. You know, it might come from somebody saying money doesn't grow on trees. We don't have money to buy that. All of those things. And we believe the lie. We are conditioned to believe the lie. Oh, it's, you can either be happy or you can make money. Oh, you can either be a successful business owner or you can be a great
Starting point is 00:13:26 parent. No. And so when you notice the scarcity start to like, try to, try to make your, you know, your, your radar a little bit better, your scarcity radar. When you notice it come back in, notice it and then go, you know what? I need to work past this thing. Like when I was buying my house, I was, I remember I was, I was like, man, I was getting, I could feel scarcity. I could feel scarcity coming out. I could feel myself getting nervous. So I called my first best friend and I was like, Hey, I noticed right now, like I feel scarcity in my mind and I am feeling myself go into the scarcity mindset. I need you to help me think abundantly. And he's like, man, so tell me about the house. And I was telling him about it. He's like, well, it's going to be surrounded by nature and there's going to be
Starting point is 00:14:06 an amazing view. He's like, dude, think about waking up in the morning, having your cup of coffee, being able to look out into nature and just how inspired you're going to feel waking up there. And I was like, oh my God, yeah, I'm going to feel so inspired. He's like, you create content and you run a business. Like think about how the quality of everything that you do is gonna be better by how inspired you're gonna be from waking up there. And I was like, oh my God, that's so true. And what happened was I went from this,
Starting point is 00:14:32 I don't know if it's possible, to going, oh my God, not only is it gonna be possible, but I'm going to make a whole lot more in my life and happiness and I'm gonna feel more abundant, I'm gonna feel more inspired. Everything's gonna be better from moving into this house. And it was just a quick little conversation to help shift me from scarcity into abundance, which we all need help with every once in a while. You know, there's a really different energy when you step into abundance. There's a different thought pattern when you start to think abundantly. There's a different
Starting point is 00:15:02 belief pattern that you start to step into. It's just a different feeling. It doesn't feel restrictive. It doesn't feel heavy. It doesn't feel like a tightness in the chest. It feels like, oh my God, anything's possible. So why don't I go create anything that I want to? You know, scarcity is programmed into us, not on purpose, but if you have a scarcity mindset, you probably got it from your parents. You probably got it from your grandparents, from society, from people around you. That's not realistic. You had teachers where you were like, oh my gosh, I want to be this. And your teacher was like, that's not realistic. And so it's either, oh, I could do this or I could do this thing.
Starting point is 00:15:37 Well, I could either go to college and work for somebody else or I could not get a good job and be poor the rest of my life. That's what my reality looks like. No, no, no. Those are all programmed into us. It takes awareness to notice when you slip into scarcity. But you ultimately have to ask the question, do you trust that the universe has your back or God or life or whatever it is you believe in? That whatever it is that's out there wants the best for you? That it's there to support you. If you do, then abundance is all around you. Abundance is the natural state that we should try to become aware of,
Starting point is 00:16:11 we should try to tap into. You know, like the way I like to think about it is it's kind of like a light. You know, we're kind of like a light, right? That's not plugged into the wall, like a lamp that's on the floor, right? And it's not plugged into the wall and it's just kind of sitting there. We're kind of like alone in this universe when we're being scarce because we're closed off to the abundance and everything else
Starting point is 00:16:31 that's out there. And we're just sitting there and we're just a lamp and we're not plugged in. The lamp doesn't turn on because it's not plugged in. But as soon as you plug a lamp into a wall, the entire house is wired and then you can connect to that electricity that goes to the entire house. It's like when you tap into abundance, it's like plugging you into the wall, plugging you into the abundance that's all throughout the universe. You just have to believe that it's there. I'm not saying sit around and meditate and be like, oh, I am worth $10 million. And you look in your bank account and you're like, what? It's still 20 bucks. This is ridiculous. No, you still have to work your ass off. You still have to go for it.
Starting point is 00:17:07 But you have to understand that your scarcity mindset, if you have it, restricts what you feel is possible. And what you feel is possible is what you're gonna work towards. And if you don't feel abundant, if you don't see abundance, then it's gonna be really hard to work towards. And so I just want you to start to think about when you start to get the feeling of either or, because that's scarcity.
Starting point is 00:17:23 And I want you to start learning to switch to and. I'm going to get this and I'm going to get this. It doesn't have to be this or this. It's going to be this and this. And that is the life that I'm going to create. And that is how you flip from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset. So that's what I got for you for today's episode.
