I want to tell you there are three types of people in this world. There are quitters, campers, and climbers. Quitters never win, campers never improve, but climbers never stop. Starting point is 00:02:29 Thanks, Rob, for everything you do. Welcome to today's episode. Today, I'm going to make a strong, strong case against why you should stop caring what people think about you, stop trying to fit in with society and just stop trying to fit in in general. I'm going to tell you why I think you should stop fitting in because think about it this way. If you're trying to fit in, you're trying to be like everybody else. And if you look around at everybody else who's out there, everybody else or the majority of people that you see out there, and I were to ask you a question. Do you want to fit in with them? Do you want to
Starting point is 00:03:05 be like all of them? Your answer would probably be, no, you don't want to be like them. But for some reason, there's a part of you that wants to still not be judged, that wants to not be rejected, that wants to be accepted. And that's a part of us, a part of our brain and part of our really human existence that's just pretty much in there. And it's going to be hard to get away from. And that's a part of us, a part of our brain and part of our really human existence that's just pretty much in there. And it's going to be hard to get away from. And the reason why is because if you think about thousands of years ago, when there were cavemen, we had to be fit, we had to fit in, in order to survive for survival. We had to be part of a pack because that meant food, water, shelter, clothing, all of those things, safety,
Starting point is 00:03:46 all of those things came with being accepted, with being part of society, with fitting in. And so we have that part of our brain that still exists of, I want to fit in. I don't want to be judged. I want to be like everybody else. But then when you look around at everybody else, you think to yourself, I don't really want to be in his situation. I don't want to be in her situation. But there's still a part of your brain that says, you know what? I don't want to be judged. I don't want to be rejected. I want to fit in. And I'm going to make the strong case of why you should not want to fit in. Because if you think of anybody that you look up to, anybody that is influential in your life, whether it's someone like Bill Gates or Elon Musk or Mark Zuckerberg, any of those types of people, Steve Jobs, all of them.
Starting point is 00:04:30 You look at them and you say, are they like a normal person? Do they fit in? No, not really. Do they care what other people think about them? Absolutely not. Do they care about being judged? No. And so if you think about it, you have to ask yourself the question, do I want to be like
Starting point is 00:04:45 everybody else or do I want to be like the people that I admire? And that's where you really start to get to the key question. You really start to get to the key answers of what should I do with myself? Because think about the way that society raises us. You should not want to fit in. Society raises us for the first 18 to 22 years of our lives. We sit down, we shut up, we raise our hand whenever we want to speak. We can't move out of our seats. We have to ask permission just to use the bathroom. If we want to leave and go to the next place, we have to wait till a bell rings and we better get there before the next bell rings. What are they doing? In society, they are throughout our first 18 to 22 years of life, making us fit in and giving us the perfect structure to work for somebody else. You do what you're told. You fit in.
Starting point is 00:05:45 You don't ask any questions. When the bell rings, you can go to the next place. It's the perfect structure for working for someone else. It's actually even the perfect structure for being a factory worker, which is not a bad thing if that's what you want to do. But I know a lot of people don't actually realize that that's the way that we're raised. We're raised to fit in. We're raised to sit down, to shut up, to do what we're told. And then also the other part of
Starting point is 00:06:09 society is that with advertisements, with the way that things are, with trying to fit in, with trying to keep up with the Joneses, we're also taught to literally make money and then spend it as quick as possible. Because with advertisements, you're not good enough until you buy our next product. You're not good enough until you get this. You think that you're good enough, but you have to buy this. And in reality, you're not really buying the product. Whenever you're buying something new, whenever you go out and buy a new car, you're not buying the new car. What you're doing is you're buying the feeling that you hope that car will give you. Feeling of importance, feeling of being accepted, the feeling of finally
Starting point is 00:06:52 being enough, right? So the thing I want to kind of get, the point I want to get across in this episode is to start questioning society. Start questioning everything that's set out in front of you. Question, should I be working nine to five? Nine to five, Monday through Friday, are just arbitrary days and arbitrary times made up by some random person 150 years ago, basically. And so start questioning that. Start thinking, well, do I need to work nine to five or could I be very productive to work nine to five or could, you know, could I be very productive from 9am until one and then take the rest of the afternoon off? Could I be very productive? Could I do all of these things? And so what I want you to start thinking about is start questioning what society tells you to do. Start questioning, should I continue to have those feelings of fitting in? Because there is a part of our brain that wants to fit in, but I want you to question that next time it pops up. Next time you fear being rejected,
Starting point is 00:07:50 you fear that you're not going to fit in, ask yourself, does it really matter? Do I actually want to fit in? Do I want to fit in with these people or do I want to stand out and be different? Because when you're doing what you're told to do, when you're doing what society teaches you and pushes you to do, you're fitting in with everybody else. But if you look at where you want to be, if you look at who you admire, those are the people that don't fit in. So those two contradict each other. What you should say is, do I want to fit in? And if you look around and you say no, well, then you start asking yourself the question of, well, what do I want to fit in? And if you look around and you say no, well, then you start asking yourself the question of, well, what do I need to do to be okay with not fitting in? Do I want to fit in? And if the answer is no, what do I need to do in order to be okay with not fitting in? Because if
Starting point is 00:08:37 you want to make something great of your life, sometimes you have to go out on a limb. Sometimes you have to have haters. Sometimes you have to be rejected. Sometimes you have to fail. Actually, pretty much all of the time, you have to do all of those things. But if you really want something great of your life, you're gonna have to come in contact with all of those things and you're gonna have to ask yourself,
Starting point is 00:08:56 is it important for me to fit in or is it important for me to be okay with standing out? Because if I wanna make something great of my life, personally, I know with me, if I wanna make something great of my life, personally, I know with me, if I want to make something great of my life, I'm going to be judged. I'm going to be rejected. I'm going to fail.
Starting point is 00:09:11 But my mission is to impact millions of people's lives. So I don't give a crap about what the people who I'm not impacting say. All I give a crap about is people who are listening and who are being impacted by my message. And that's what's keeping me driven. So ask yourself the same question. You I want to fit in by these dreams, these aspirations, everything that I want to do? Do I want to fit in or do I want to be different and stand out?
