All right, I'll get you the podcast right now.
Welcome to the MWF Motivation Podcast, which I am proud to say has been rated the number one podcast in iTunes new and noteworthy in six different categories, including self-help
and business, and is a podcast designed to help you grow into the best version of yourself
in 10 to 20 minutes.
Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, we'll take a life topic, break it down, discuss
it, and leave you with thoughts to impact your life and mind. My name is Rob Dial, and
the podcast starts now.
Welcome to today's episode. If you have not yet done so, please subscribe to us, however you listen to us.
And I have a very, very exciting announcement for you guys. I am not going to yet have the entire announcement about the group coaching that just launched a couple days ago on Monday.
But I will tell you that I'm excited because we already have 21 people in the group. It has not
even been fully announced. There's 21 people
who are in the group coaching program. And like I said, I will be announcing it probably sometime
next week. But at this point, if you're interested in being one of the founding members, if it's
something where you say, I kind of want something a little bit more than just the podcast, because
I have a lot of people reaching out saying the podcast is only three times a week. They wish
there was more. That is what I've designed the group coaching for.
If it's something that interests you, send me an email, rob at mwfmotivation.com. And I can send
you some information or we can get a quick call in and talk a little bit more about it.
But the first 30 people that are in it, and there's 21 right now, the first 30 people get
a pretty steep discount on the charge for the entire group
coaching that we have. Also, I have been having a ton of calls with some of the people who listen.
I think I've had about 20 in the past two days with listeners. I love it. I want to keep doing
it because I think that I'm going to be gaining a lot of knowledge on how to make this podcast
better. If you want to schedule 20 minutes with me, go to this episode's show
notes, mwfmotivation.com slash episode 117. So mwfmotivation.com slash episode 117. You can see
a link there to my calendar. You can book some time in my calendar and we can get a little chat
within the next week or two. So today what I'm going to be talking about is the difference between studying versus training,
or what I like to call it, crap or get off the pot.
And if you don't know what that phrase means, maybe you should Google it,
but crap or get off the pot.
And let me explain what I mean by this.
Studying is what a lot of people do, and a lot of people think they're doing something,
and they trick themselves into thinking they're doing something. And in reality, they're not doing anything. Now, let me say this. Studying
can be very good and is something that you have to do. You have to learn. You have to read. You
have to acquire knowledge. You have to listen to podcasts. You have to do all of these different
things. It is a requirement in order to be successful, in order to get to where you want to be, no matter what you want to be successful at. But there is a point where you get to it and it just doesn't
do anything for you anymore. There's a point where you realize that your studying is actually
just wasting time. Your studying is you trying to trick yourself into acting like you're getting
something done.
For instance, I'll give you a perfect example. Listening to this podcast. I know some people
are out there and they listen to this podcast and they love this podcast, but they listen to it,
tricking themselves into thinking that they're doing something for themselves.
They're doing something for themselves, but to not apply any of the stuff that you've learned,
to not go out and actually do something after it
is just a waste of time.
If you're doing that,
it's probably better if you just don't listen to the podcast
and you save yourself 15 minutes three times a week.
That's probably best.
What you have to realize is you have to learn,
you have to get the knowledge,
but then you need to apply the knowledge.
You need to go out and execute.
A lot of people, most people in the world
try to trick themselves into thinking they're
doing something, but in reality, what they're doing is just delaying the inevitable or
procrastinating more than anything else. A lot of people use procrastination and cover it up
in thinking that they're actually studying or doing something. A lot of thinkers do this. A
lot of thinkers are like, well, I need to read as much as I possibly can.
I need to listen to as many podcasts I possibly can.
And yes, you do need to do these things,
but there's a point where you get to too much
and you're kind of just wasting your time
and you need to actually go out there
and get some real world training.
Listening to the podcast.
And here's the thing, I'll admit last year,
I think I probably got to the point
of doing too much studying.
I read 40 books and that's great. You can read 40 books, but think I probably got to the point of doing too much studying. I read 40
books and that's great. You can read 40 books, but I think I got to the point where I should
have been doing more. I should have cut back, maybe read 20 books for the year and it still
would have gotten me pretty good results. And then I should have used the other time that I would
have read those 20 books and spent that time doing stuff and getting stuff done and actually going out and executing. But you have to realize the reason why I say this is because
studying doesn't make you money. The execution and the application of that knowledge, that's
what makes you money. That's what gets you successful to whatever it is that you want to do.
So that's studying. Training is the next best thing. Training is getting out there and going and
doing as much as you possibly can, getting the hands-on experience, learning as much as you
possibly can, getting into some type of... If there's podcasting, then there's the group coaching.
If group coaching isn't for you, hey, no worries. Figure out something else that's the more advanced
version of the podcast, something that's going to push you a little bit more, push you to become better, push you to become the best version of yourself, push you to become a
better marketer, push you to become a better mother or father or whatever it is that you want
to be. That's what training is. If you think about it, athletes, they do a lot of training.
They study a lot. They watch the films of the teams they're about to play. Then what they do
is after they watch all the films, they get as much training as they possibly, or they get as
much studying as they possibly can. They go out and train. They have a practice squad that makes
it almost as good as playing the actual team. Think about it this way. Think of a boxer. A
boxer is a perfect example of this. A boxer, when you're going into a huge fight, they get somebody,
they read, you know, say they get fight, they get somebody, they read,
you know, say they get this, they get person A and they're going to fight person A. What they do is they watch all of the videos on person A that they possibly can. They study it. Then what they
do is they go out and train. That's the next step. What they do is they find someone that's the same
size of them, the same arm length as that person they're going to be fighting, as close to the
real thing as they possibly can. So that's studying, which is good. Then you go into training, which is as close to the real world as you
possibly can. And you spend as much time as you can training before you need to actually execute.
And then you execute. Now don't stick in this time of training thinking that you're actually
executing as well. Once again, same thing. You can spend too much time there. So you need to study,
you need to train, and then you need to execute. The only thing that's better than training
is the real thing. Going out there and getting punched in the face and learning how to deal
with it next time you get punched in the face. You need to go out there sometimes. And most of
the time, people are spending too much time studying, not enough time training, and then
not even close to enough time executing
and then going out there in the real world. So I want you to think about that. Do you listen to
every single one of these episodes, but then you do nothing after? Do you listen to every single
one of these episodes and you know that you need to read more, or you know you need to go to
conferences, or you know you need to go to seminars, or you know you need to get a mentor,
some type of coaching, or you need to go to a networking event, or you need to do something, but you're just sitting on your ass
and you're doing nothing because at that point in time, what you're doing is studying. And in
reality, if you're doing that, you're probably just wasting your time. You need to get out into
the real world. You need to get some training in. And then once you get the training and you get the
coaching and you get the mentors, you get the real world experience or as closest to the real
world experience as possible, then you execute. Then you go out and you actually execute on the dreams
that you want. But the problem is you can't do that unless you go through these steps. You have
to study and then you have to realize you get to the point of diminishing returns and you need to
go into training. And you need to go into training and you need to spend your money on whatever it
is. Some type of course maybe for how to become a internet marketer, a course maybe
on how to become a better mother, whatever it is that you want to become better at. And then you
need to execute. You need to go out and you need to actually do it. Because most people spend too
much of their time studying than anything else, thinking that they're actually getting stuff done.
And then some people go into the training aspect and act like they're getting stuff done,
but very, very few people go out and actually execute.
So you need to ask yourself this.
Are you spending too much of your time studying?
And then if you aren't, are you spending too much of your time training?
And then ask yourself this.
Are you spending any time and how much time are you spending executing and going out there
and doing what you need to do and getting punched in the face and getting back up and learning from being punched in the face and
getting better every single time that you do it? Because sometimes you have to go out there,
you have to go into the real world, you have to get punched in the face in order to return
and become better. But most people's fear cripples them and they need to make up excuses like,
hey, I need to keep studying, I need to keep training, I need to keep doing these things.
And they keep putting off execution as long as they possibly can. And then they never execute and realize why their
dreams don't come true. So that's what I want to ask you. Are you at the point where you're
studying too much? And if you're not studying too much, are you at the point where you're training
too much? And then ask yourself, how much time am I spending executing? And if I need to execute
more, I will cut training and studying completely
out and just strictly execute and go out there and fail as much as I possibly can in order to
get better. Stop putting off the execution. That's the most important part. So the question is,
what do you need to do? Because you need to make a decision. Are you going to crap or are you going
to get off the pot? And that's kind of the situation you need to be in. Are you really
going to follow your dreams and go for it? Or should you just completely give up on it and do something
else and live a life of mediocrity? That's the decision that you need to make. And that's how
I want to challenge you. And that's what I hope that you figure out some type of way to execute
and go out there and make your dreams actually happen. So with that, once again, if you want
to schedule time with me, go to mwfmotivation.com
