Starting point is 00:01:31 So go ahead and follow me on there. And let's go ahead and dive into today's episode. So today I'm going to be talking about something that I've talked about in the past, but I wanted to go a little bit more in depth. And that is on the Pomodoro Technique. I'm going to teach you guys how to stop procrastinating. So when we're talking about how to stop procrastinating, there's one tool that we have found that I found and also scientists have studied as far as humans sitting
Starting point is 00:01:56 down, trying to be focused, getting things done, the way that their brain works and the way that their brain waves work, all of those of those things, finds work better than any other thing that's out there. And it's called the Pomodoro Technique. And it's super simple. And if you can learn to use this anytime that you want to be highly, highly productive, you will get more stuff done every single time. It's simple. Here we go. Number one, you focus on one task, one thing thing and one thing only for 25 minutes that's it you don't do anything else for 25 minutes and what I have found works best for me I've done it before I've sat there and I've decided that I'm gonna
Starting point is 00:02:35 take my phone and put a timer on it and then I go and I check my timer and I'm a I saw 18 minutes left oh I've still got 14 minutes left and I've checked my timer what I decided is actually best for me personally is I'll go into YouTube. I'll type in binarial beats focus. Binarial beats are just, you have to listen to them in headphones and they're designed to change your brain waves.
Starting point is 00:02:57 And what I will do is I will take one that's a 30 minute one and I'll move it in five minutes so that there's 25 minutes left in that audio. I'll push play and then I'll go back to whatever that I was doing before then. And so I know that I can't stop until that audio is done. It makes it much more simpler on myself because I don't look at my phone. I don't look at the clock. I don't look at my little clock that's also on my computer. All I do is I sit there and as soon as the music's over, I'm done.
Starting point is 00:03:27 So I focus for 25 minutes and then when it's over, I get a five minute break. I can do whatever the hell I want. The cool thing about the break is that it feels like a prize that you're getting at the end, which makes you want to continue doing this. You're like, oh my gosh, I actually focused for 25 minutes. Now I get this. You can do whatever you want. You can go on Instagram, you can go on social media, you can go eat something, whatever it is that you want, 25 minutes on, five minutes off. And what's cool about it is this. If you keep a notepad right next to you when you're working
Starting point is 00:03:58 or reading or whatever it is that you're trying to do, anytime a thought comes in of, oh, I should also do this. Instead of trying to multitask, which is impossible, they found you're just going from one task to another. What you do is you take that idea and you write it down on your notebook. That's right next to your computer. There's right next to your phone. That's right next to your book, whatever it is. And you get that idea out of your head. So your brain doesn't have to focus on it anymore. And then you come back to whatever it is that you were doing then you take that five minute break and then you do it three more times so what it is is 25 on five
Starting point is 00:04:33 minutes off four times in a row and then after those four times you take a twenty-minute break to allow yourself to decompress more now let me tell you why this works a couple reasons why is because your brain likes to know that there is an end to something. If you just sit down and say, I'm going to work as much as I possibly can in this session that I have, you're probably going to start to get antsy and you're going to want to go on Facebook. You're going to want to switch to another task. You're going to want to start doing something else. Your brain knows that there is an end time coming and that all you have to do is just focus on this one thing. And when the music clicks off, the music clicks off and you can go. If you're the
Starting point is 00:05:13 type of person that likes silence when you're trying to be focused, all you have to do, put a 25 minute timer on your phone, put your phone out of the way so that you can't reach it. You can't pick it up. You can't accidentally go on Instagram or Facebook. And it works because your brain knows that the end is coming and that all you have to do is just wait till the alarm goes off or wait till the music stops playing. The second reason why this works so well is because there are actually studies that found out the human brain and the productivity that we have. So they find that within a working time, your brain has this big spike from the beginning and to about 10 minutes is where you're usually at the most focused for. So from zero to 10 minutes, it's ramping up and then it's going down for the entire rest of the time. So if you
Starting point is 00:05:56 work for two hours straight, the problem with that is that you only have one spike of productivity and then it's slowly getting less and less and less productive for the rest of the two hours. Well, with the Pomodoro technique, the reason why this works is because from zero to 10 minutes, you're getting a big spike and then it's dropping and then it stops at 25 minutes. Well, then what's cool about it is when you get back from your five minute break, you get another ramp up and then it drops again and then you get another ramp up. So instead of, if you were to take a two hour span, instead of just one big jump in productivity and getting to your max, you're actually hitting your maximum productivity four times in two hours versus just one time in two hours. So you are highly, highly productive in doing this. And the other reason why this works
Starting point is 00:06:42 so well is if you put in binarial beats, which they have found allow your brain to focus. And once again, just go onto YouTube, type in binarial beats, focus, put in your headphones. It allows your brain to literally just lock into one thing and one thing only. And then you get that prize at the end of the five minute break. So if you're looking to stop procrastinating, this is the easiest way to do it. And the reason why is because you feel like you have a plan going into whatever it is. And then you look at it, you just go, okay, all I have to do is just put on this audio and then just take my first step. It's like Lao Tzu says, the journey of a thousand miles begins with a
Starting point is 00:07:20 single step. The cool thing about this is you're completely prepared. You know exactly what you need to do. All you need to do, push play on those binarial beats and then start working on whatever it is. And what you'll notice is after you do your first Pomodoro technique, your brain wants to keep doing it because you start to notice number one, you're being highly productive, but number two, your brain always loves some sort of reward system. And when you work really hard for 25 minutes, your brain wants that reward system of that five minute break. So you're getting things done and then you're rewarding yourself immediately after. So that's the Pomodoro technique. If you want to learn more about it, you can Google it. There's tons of articles all over the internet,
Starting point is 00:07:58 but it's that simple. 25 minutes on, five minutes off, do it four times in a row, and you'll get more done in a shorter period of time than you ever have. So that's what I got for you for today's episode. If you guys like this, go ahead and hit that subscribe button. If there's any ideas of other videos that you want me to do,
Starting point is 00:08:17 comment them down below. I'll look at them. And hey, I might just pick one of the videos that you want me to do and you'll see it popping up. But until the next video, I'll see you guys on the next one. kind of nowhere and chatting about nothing. As an Expedia member, you can save up to 30% when you add a hotel to your flight. So you can have a bit more money to go out there
Starting point is 00:08:51 with great ambition to do absolutely nothing. Expedia. Made to travel.
